Smoothies are to die for here, or at least they used to be. (Not so fresh tasting anymore) One thing I really can't stand is when they come and take away your bowl of soup without asking if you are done with it first. Service: 1.5 stars - walked in and took a while to clear a table and get seated, no menus so I had to walk over to get my own, took forever to take our orders, kids meal came out fast but my toddler had a hard time reaching the table and yet no one came over to offer a booster or high chair, I went across the restaurant to grab one myself as the staff just stared trying to look busy. My first time visiting Jin 28 left me with mixed results. I wanted to try a little bit from all three cuisines so I went with the Crab Rangoon (Chinese/American), Tom Yom Goong (Thai), and Hamachi- Yellow Tail maki roll (Japanese.) First things first... I ordered carry out from my iPhone, which was a user-friendly and easy process. When I arrived, my food was hot and ready to go. The decor was clean and inviting, with an adorable sushi bar area, and a friendly hostess. Not too shabby. Now on to food. Those Crab Rangoons were some of the best I have ever had. Filled with tangy, unsweetened cream cheese, big chunks of surimi, crispy wonton... Really good Americanized dish! Now, what they called Tom Yom Goon was described as having coconut milk like a Tom Kha soup. This was no Tom Kha. Bland, overly sour, greasy, and not at all coconut milky. It wasn't exactly a Tom Yom soup either. No likey. The yellow tail in the hamachi roll was fresh and mild tasting. I couldn't get a good read on the rice because there wasn't much of it in there. Not bad, not amazing, just average. The best part was the price! Everything was extremely reasonable. Absolutely delicious sushi, and perfectly priced. My husband and I went in with our 10 month old during their happy hour special and we had three apps (shumai, gyoza, and edamame) along with two specialty rolls (huge) and two regular rolls. All so delicious and our bill was only $34 which is unheard of! The wait staff was so sweet and attentive as well! Will most certainly be back! read more

Jin 28 is a cozy little establishment in a less than desirable area. Depending on when you go, you'll most likely end up being the only ones there, so the service tends to be pretty good. I would highly recommend the edamame and chicken potstickers to kick things off, and I wouldn't stray too far from the orange chicken as your entree. This had become our go-to spot as we have ordered takeout and delivery from them many times. The food isn't great, but it's good enough and rather consistent. Alas, the wait times have gotten longer and longer. Recently, I opted not to go with delivery but I called in the order and drove TO the restaurant to pick up my own food. It was supposed to be ready at 5:15 pm. I arrived at 5:20 pm only to be told they were "slammed" (only two tables had customers) and it would be "another 15 minutes." This, despite putting in my order at 4:40 pm. At 5:45 pm, I started to ask where my meal was but the host cut me off to answer the phone and take an entire order rather than deal with the customer in front of her. When she was finished, I asked where my meal was and she said, "We decided to prioritize DoorDash customers first." Delivery? I was standing right there, waiting for my food. I had called in my order, and "they" decided to go with a third-party vendor rather than deal with a live customer standing right in front of them? At 6 pm she could tell I was getting frustrated, and she said she would "make it worth my while." At 6:20 pm, my food was finally given to me. I would have walked out a much earlier if I hadn't prepaid. Worth my while? She gave me a free egg roll "for my troubles." If she had comped my meal with a sincere apology I might be back. But this is not how you treat customers---no matter what. 90 minutes later is not the time you give your guest their meal. They have lost our business. (Sidenote: too many customers were coming in and out of the restaurant with no mask and no request or enforcement to do so.....there's a state mandate, and I did not feel safe or comfortable waiting for my meal.) read more

Jin 28 is my favorite delivery restaurant in the Highwood area. They are always on time and have never messed up an order. Their food is pretty tasty, I've tasted a little bit everything but sushi. In-restaurant service is quick and the staff members are often kind! Also, can we appreciate that the lunch specials are $7?! And it's a lot of food! My favorite meal is the General Tso and Pad Thai (yummmmmm). read more

My boyfriend and I decided to have some Japanese food and this restaurant came up on Yelp. We were a bit skeptical at first because of some of the bad reviews, but this was how I remembered it. First of all the ambience was great with the soft yet pleasant music. The service was excellent and the waitresses there were really helpful. We ordered pad thai and 3 rolls of sushi. My favorite would have to be Dragon Fire (or something similiar to that name) and the Mexican roll! The pad thai portion was also huge we couldn't even finish it. They have a very extensive menu with a wide variety of selections from chinese, japanese, to thai food. I would definitely come again to try their other rolls of sushi and thai food! read more

Best Chinese lunch special around. You can get an entree, rice soup, and egg roll for the price of a combo meal at a fast food place... and this is much better. The beef is extremely tender, so it's nice to know they're not using bad cuts to get to this price point. It's not the absolute best Chinese food I have ever had, but it does the trick. This is my first yelp review, but my experience here was too much to not say something. It was two of us for lunch at 1pm on a Tuesday. Tom Yum Soup: Just mediocre, but not bad which is why I went with two stars instead of no stars. Pad Thai - tofu: First it came with chicken I think, as it was not a type of meat I have seen before. I might have eaten it if it had any flavor, but the 'meat' was not edible. My lunch mate tried it as well and agreed. The Pad Thai had a sauce all over it which made the entire dish more like a wet noodle dish. I sent it back and asked for the tofu version. I asked them to go light on whatever sauce they had put on it. It came back with the same amount of sauce and yellowish tofu (the fryer oil must be the same used as the Rangoon?). I ate a few meager bites to give it a good try, but could not. Lunch mate - Chicken and broccoli - He ate the white rice and the broccoli. The food was covered in a sticky sauce that was less than desirable, and again the "chicken" was the same type of meat that is very strange. Neither of us could eat it. read more

I normally use Yelp to write great reviews on places with outstanding service and didn't think I'd ever have an experience bad enough to waste time being negative on here. Anyway, we went to Jin 28 because we had no idea it existed and they'd sent us a coupon in the mail that stated "get $10 off your next visit when you spend $20 or more". So we figured we'd give it a shot. Anyway, our four kids and us got there, and could already sense the friendliness of the host and our waitress was really very nice too actually. We placed our order and gave them the coupon since it stated that we show the coupon at the time of ordering and she said that it was supposed to be for our next visit. So I said "This is our next visit. We're here right now." And then she said, "no see it says here for your next visit, so I will give you the real coupon when you leave so you can use it when you come back on your next visit." My husband and I just looked at each other like "what is happening". And I was like "I don't understand, we got it in the mail, and it says to use it on your next visit, and we are here now...the next visit. It doesn't say to use it on your next NEXT visit." And no joke, she still did not honor it, and to be honest, made the rest of the time there a bit awkward, because we felt pretty mislead. I mean, am I crazy for thinking it should have been for this visit? I gave 2 stars because of the friendliness in the beginning. But otherwise it woulda' been 1 or 0 stars. We will not be back here for our next NEXT visit and will continue to regularly visit MiLin just up the road because we love them and we've always been treated very well there. Also Koi in Evanston for their incredible Dragon Fire Maki Roll and ridiculous awesome customer service. read more

My wife and I had dinner delivered from here last week. I had the Singapore noodles, egg drop soup and some potstickers. The soup was a solid O.K. though I didn't get any crunchy noodles with it. The potstickers were not terrible, but I've had a lot better. With the Singapore noodles, the flavor was pretty good (I could have used more spice though), the pork quality was good but the shrimp was pretty pathetic. They reminded me of those little shrimps in ramen noodle cups. All in all, I haven't wrote them off yet, but next time I give them a try, I'll order something different. read more

We live in the neighborhood and come there often. The food is about average. Meaning not fancy or trendy. One negative is the pan fried noodles which are always overcooked and dry. The sushi is about the same. I have never had a bad piece of sushi. Fresh and normal size pieces. Prices are VERY competitive. Perhaps, living on Chicago's North Shore, expectations may be a bit elevated. This place is a nice neighborhood restaurant. As for an earlier comment about it always being "empty", I agree. Either it's a nice secret place to eat or they do a lot of carry out business that goes unnoticed. Ther is another Asian/Sushi restaurant about a 3 min drive that is fancier and much more expensive...that one is much busier and I can't figure why. But, if costs are a factor Jin 28 is a better choice ( my opinion) read more

The sushi was tastier when it was still Kori Sushi, not sure why Kori is no longer there because they had great sushi. The first time I tried Jin 28 I really liked the fried rice but when I went again, I think they got lazy because the rice just was not flavorful so either the amazing rice was a fluke or the blah rice was. I decided to try it again and the fried rice was not that good. The waitresses are always really sweet. I really want to like this place but it's just not worth the $$$. And they do not have happy hour like Kori had. What they do have is like a 3 rolls for 9.99 special but the rolls are extremely limited and basic. All in all, if someone invited me to go, sure I guess I would go, but I would not go out of my way to come here. Thanks for reading. read more

Most of the food is good. They are not always consistent in their ingredients as you can order the same food two different times and they taste different. The take out portions are smaller than if you eat in the restaurant. The atmosphere is nice for a family or for couples. Not noisy. The orange chicken is delicious. Excellent egg rolls. One of my favorite restaurants! It's great for groups, it's great dining in, and it's great for carry out. Delivery is fast, the staff is helpful, and they are great at accommodating requests for food allergies and preferences. Did I mention the food itself is great, too? When I called to find out why the lady argued that I was wrong about how it was described on the site and I literally had to read verbatim the description of the menu item they protvided to her. When she finally conceded they messed up I asked them to re-deliver what they described on the menu AS IT WAS DESCRIBED on the menu. she said ok, we hung up but they NEVER DELIVERED! I called back to ask for a refund after two hours passed and they refused saying they'd only give me a credit. I finally had to call GrubHub and they made them refund me. read more

The restaurant is quite big. We were seated right away as it was not crowded. The menu has lots of choices, reasonable prices. When the food arrived we were surprised by the generous portions. My selection of teriyaki chicken looked very good, with fresh vegetables and lots of chicken. Upon eating it though, I realized the veggies were cold, as if they had been dumped from a frozen bag and some was not heated thoroughly. Same with the chicken. It didn't seem to be marinated and grilled, but rather just heated with a watery sauce poured over it. Some of it was warm, soft and tasty, but other pieces still seemed semi hard as if not completely thawed. I will probably go back again and try something else though, since my table companions had no complaints. read more
