Update: often times towards the weekend you really have to book ahead of time - I've walked in to their UES location and got turned away because everything was full. Also went to the east village location but nails chipped after a couple of days. Still good service in general. Nothing but exceptional when it comes to manicures - no chips for almost a week, which is something I've never experienced before. Service was great, the lady offered me hot green tea and did a great job with the manicure. Slightly on the pricey side but hey it's worth it and will last at least two weeks! I made an appointment for the new Shellac manicure on my birthday, but then had to reschedule- apparently I wrote the time down wrong, but when I arrived, (45 min late!), they accommodated me quickly. The manicure was fantastic, and the Shellac is...wow. I got it over 2 weeks ago, and it still looks flawless. I am HARD on my hands, too! (I tried an OPI long-wear manicure a month ago, and the damned thing chipped and fell apart within ONE day. It's supposed to last about 2 weeks.) The color choices for the Shellac are somewhat limited, but I think that's more on CND than Jin Soon. I wanted a gray color, but they mainly have pinks, so I opted for "Fedora" a vey dark, almost black, berry color. It is pricey- 45.00 for a manicure with the Shellac- but I travelled to Europe, went to a wedding, cleaned my house and have been typing and knitting non-stop, and the polish is still shiny and pretty. The salon itself is small, but the color choices for the normal mani/pedis are amazing, and the space was serene and laid back. recommended for anyone who wants to treat themselves. read more

Sabina is a rude person. She asks like shes doing me a favor. Im paying you 25 dollars sometimes i tip 10 ten dollars. For a manicure that is done with an attitude and rolling eyes. Been going there for 5 years its convenient to where i live and the actual job is average at best. Its just so sad that their service is horrible. Im not going to be going back here. Definately not after the treatment i go today. I asked her to even my nails out and its always big drama as if im being difficult. When i ask to even out my nails, they start speaking in "their" language, they are so up their own asses. They think they are the only people who do nail services. Just had a terrible manicure here. First of all, my manicure is uneven and patchy--the way my manicurist was applying the polish was very odd, in strokes going different ways. Also, this salon advertises that they do nail art, which they should not. I wanted a simple tip in a different color--like a French manicure. She had a lot of trouble with it and initially it was very uneven and didn't even go all the way across the nail. After I requested she do it correctly she tried to fix it, but had to make it very thick in the process. It's fine if you don't know how to do it but do Not advertise it on your site. Really disappointed that I spent more on a subpar manicure than one I could get at my local nail salon. read more

Luckily my nail technician did an outstanding job, or else this place would have gotten 2 big fat stars from moi. I just finished running a 4 mile race in Brooklyn and all I wanted at the end of the day was a relaxing mani pedi. I looked all over yelp for a place to go to, that was open, and not booked. I saw the reviews about Jin Soon and I quickly placed a call. I was able to get an appointment for a mani pedi at 5:45pm. On my way there I was beaming with excitement, BEAMING, because I've heard such great things about their milk and honey pedicure. "That's just what I need" I say to myself as I skip down 2nd ave in my cute Hunter rainboots. Once I arrived, the place is cramped with other excited women in need of a mani pedi just like yours truly. I wait at the door for 5 minutes---still not greeted. uggghhh..... So I walk down the narrow of what seems to be a walk way to their pedicure room. No response. So I finally go to their little office room and ask for some help. The lady is friendly and smiles, but I'm not sure exactly what that means, since she didn't tell me to wait, sit down, or if they could help me. So I walk back to the seating area. 10 minutes later, one of the staff tells me they are sorry but they cannot take me. "WHAT! But what about my milk and honey mani pedi....i...i...i had an appointment" I plead. " Yes, I know, but we are really busy, you can come back again tomorrow" says the worker. At this point I was pissed, what disgusting abominable world do we live in that an appointment for a mani pedi can carelessly be disregarded! Finally, after my 2nd plead of "but I had an appointment," one of the other women says something and then the lady says they can do either a mani or a pedi...not both... *sigh* As much as I really wanted to leave this place and just give them the middle finger, I was so desperate for that milk and honey that I said ok....."ok, I'll get the pedi". I then meet my nail tech who offers me some citron tea (It's ABSOLUTELY delicious!). The citron tea almost put me back in the good mood...almost...until I found out that she could not perform a milk and honey pedi on me...OMG OMG OMG...."why?" i ask. "we don't have it" one of the nail techs respond. "Oh ok...WE DON'T HAVE IT" I repeat and shrug my shoulders .... At this point, I didn't even want to argue, just give me a freaking pedicure. Although I didn't get my milk and honey, the nail tech did offer the Balm of Purity which consisterd of a massage using grapefruit cream and my choice of oil (peppermint) and hot water to soak my feet in- was pretty relaxing and soothing. I was very satisfied with the pedicure and application of the polish. I was not satisfied with the customer service and disregard for appointments. But I am a hopeful person, and hopefully this was just an off day. They told me I could come back the next day. "that's ok I said, maybe another time..." For these prices, I definitely expected better service, better interior and an overall better experience. The salon is very narrow and tight -- so from the very beginning, it's not the most ideal spa experience. It's followed by no front desk, no reception, just manicurists calling at you, summoning you very curtly. Then it's followed by just a regular manicure with a slightly lengthier massage. Nothing super special. Two more reasons that made the experience even less pleasant: 1. Visited the bathroom (TINY), and there was a cockroach crawling. 2. I got a nail infection on my third nail - bad enough where there was swelling for 3 days followed by having to puncture the infected area and draining out the fluid. Maybe the downtown locations were better, but I really don't think it's worth either the trip or the money. I've had 10 times better experiences at regular nail salons near work or home. The only upside is they have a crapload of nail polish choices ranging from Essie, Zoya to Chanel, Nars and of course, JinSoon. read more

Been going here off and on for years. The seating is uncomfortable. Very hard chairs to sit on, especially when you're getting a pedi. The mani and dryer stations are RIGHT next to the door. Very small space. Very cold and uncomfortable in the winter months. They demand you take your shoes off at the front door like it's their personal home or something. Customer service is awful. You see the reviews. They need to restaff this place. The women are NOT friendly, they don't say hello or goodbye and speak only to each other the entire time in their language. This place is a complete rip off. I'm so mad, I'm writing this from the pedicure chair. First, the lady that's doing my pedicure cut me when she was cutting my nails. Then, after a cursory pass with a rock, she says to me that callous removal is an extra $15! At this point, I'm furious. Every other pedicure I've ever gotten includes at least some callous removal and there is none here, so I'm paying effectively paying $32 for a nail polish change. I will absolutely be asking the manager for a refund. In the meantime, buyer beware. read more

My technician ripped the cuticle on my middle finger and made me bleed. I type a lot at work and it's been incredibly uncomfortable since lunch (it's about 5 pm now). Further, after putting alcohol on the cut she proceeded to blow on my finger - why bother sanitizing if you're going to blow germs back on an open cut?!? I was more than willing to pay double than a normal nail salon because I wanted a clean sanitary environment - obviously this was not the case here. I will not be returning. read more

I can see why a lot of women like this place and it's rated so highly. BUT - it still has its faults and I'm not sure the high price tag is warranted. The salon is very small and kind of awkward. The biggest issue I have is how uncomfortable the seats are. I don't mind that they don't have pedicure chairs but the darn bench and chairs they have you sit on are outright uncomfortable. There are cushions of course but they aren't thick enough. I found I had to kind of slouch while having my pedicure which ended up making my back hurt. I do admit they have a ton of nail polish colors but the way they are on display makes it very difficult to find the color you are looking for. I think I'd rather spend the cash on a massage or a blow out, not a more expensive mani/pedi. read more

First, I thought the experience would have been better given they were listed in New York Magazine as a top place in NYC for a mani/pedi. I initially didn't have a problem making an appointment (I was late and was still accommodated). HOWEVER, when I got to the salon I walked in and was completely ignored! There were two ladies working on customers they both looked up at me and didn't blink twice. The space is extremely small. If you get a pedi there is a very small set of stairs you must traverse and there is no place to store your belongings (backpack, purse, or shopping bag). I got the milk and honey pedicure, nothing to write home about.... and the mani was just okay. So two stars for the bad customer service, small space, and charging extra for a buff. read more

To start off, I was 10 minutes late. That is on me. However, what happened after was so odd that I must write a yelp review about it. So I walk in, decide I'm going to treat myself because my toes and nails were very Hocus Pocus, and so I pick out a light Dolce and Gabbana blue for my nails. Now, usually I close my eyes and relax a little while I'm having my nails done, but when I opened them instead of the color that I chose, (note: the D and G bottle was still half full of polish) the lady was just finishing painting my nails with an entirely different shade of blue from a different bottle; a Zoya bottle. WTF. Even if there wasn't enough polish in the bottle, they could have asked me to pick out a different color. In the grand sceme of things this is minor, but I'm sticking with tenoverten from now on for my nails. read more

Yes. It IS expensive compared to your average nail salon, but you get what you pay for. I found the facility clean and the staff professional and courteous. I was blown away by the nail color selection especially the inclusion of high end brands (including Chanel). I don't know if it's the better quality polish or the application but it lasts! It does not chip easily and my hands are washed upwards of 20 times a day. It's my every 2 week gift to myself. Highly recommend. read more

Great service, calming atmosphere, and very nice zen-like decor. I felt relaxed just going inside here! They have an entire wall with shelves filled from floor to ceiling with nail colors. You can pretty much pick any color you want, and they even carry all the high end nail color brands like Chanel, YSL, and, of course, Jin Soon's own line. The gal working on my nails was super attentive to detail and took extra time to make sure my french tip mani was perfect. I came here a few years ago to get my nails done and I remember feeling that Ot was good but not great. Came back for a mani pedi yesterday. The technician looked tired and very "this is just a job and I'm going through the motions. " the filing and cuticle cutting was dead on perfect, best I've had in a long time. However the massage portion, which was a significant upcharge was awful. She just rubbed the same spot for 10 min and ignored everything else. However my nails have NEVER looked better. The most perfect polish and nail/cuticle shaping ever. Come here for a perfect manicure and pedicure, but skip the indulgent stuff. Not worth that read more

Great little nail spa that has an intimate feel and is very clean and orderly. They have rows and rows of nail polishes lining the walls with brands like NARS, Chanel, Zoya, Estee Lauder and then your usual OPI and Essie polishes. It's nice to have the option of getting the premium polishes from brands like Chanel. I would suggest making an appointment as they only have about 4 pedicure stations and 6 manicure stations. The atmosphere was nice and it wasn't like one of those cheap nail salons with the awful florescent lighting and manicurists talking very loudly and ignoring you. read more

This is a scam !! I went there with my mom two days ago, I called before to have an appointment and when I got there first they were rude and second they didn't have us registred ! They still took us anyway. I had the most rude person ever doing my nails, she was not nice and tried to do my nails as quickly as possible (The manucure was okay, which is the minimum for the price that I paid). I absolutely love going to Jin Soon spa. This is hands down the best place in NY for a mani/pedi. The service is excellent and the aestheticians are very thorough and meticulous. I didn't feel rushed like most mani/pedi places, and it was very relaxing, they even brought me a citrus tea when I walked in.. Fantastic color choices, they carry Essie, OPI, Zoya, Chanel.. They do charge a bit more than other places, paid about $50+ before tax and tip for basic mani/pedi, but it was definitely well worth it. Ehh. Not worth it for the increase in price. I had a 1:15 appointment yesterday, walked out at 1:45 when no one had even acknowledged me other than saying that it would be "5 more minutes". Like an idiot, I went back right when they opened (11 AM) because they had such an amazing array of color choices. But although the decor is beautiful, as others have noted, it is not the most functional for an actual working nail salon. I found myself sitting on a high backed wooden chair with minimal padding. I was extremely uncomfortable for the duration of my manicure. In addition, my manicurist did not ask me to pay for the service prior to painting my nails, as they do at most places. After my mani, she disappeared. I smudged my manicure while paying for it and leaving the tip with a random woman who worked there. They do not have drying stations, so I sat in the same utterly uncomfortable chair while counting the minutes until I could leave (not soon enough). I'll take my $10 mani where you get to sit in a proper chair any day and the manicurists stay to make sure you are satisfied with the service provided. Plenty of other, much less expensive (and more comfortable) places to go. Sorry, not a winner!! read more

Five stars for manicure, pedicure and waxing service. One star for no receptionist, unwelcoming attitude even after one year of weekly appointments and 20% tips. I mostly had 11:00 appointments, always on a weekday when salon not busy. So, no person in front or any acknowledgment that you walked in the door was not an issue until last week when I had a Sunday appointment. I arrived five minutes early. One technician was working in front at a manicure table. I assume other technicians were in the back or in the kitchen area. After ten minutes I asked when I would be taken. The technician in front called out to someone in a foreign language and said nothing to me. Ten minutes later I walked out to never return. read more

They are meticulous about your nails here. They let you check the progress of your manis and pedis after each step to make sure you are happy with the shape, amount of cuticle cutting, and polish application. I'm pretty picky, so this is a huge plus in my book. The polish selection is ENORMOUS. Seriously, there are brands carried here I didn't even know made nail polish (ie Calvin Klein). Dolly has done my nails most of the time and I have yet to be disappointed with her work. Every time I try another salon I am disappointed after having had this as my example. It is extremely clean, relaxing, and my nails last for days. For those who say it's "cramped or small" They have four stations of each, manicure and pedicure-- they give the person they are working on their full attention and make your experience relaxing because they are not distracted by a zillion other clients in the shop. Go to Bloomie if you want a factory, wait and book a treatment at Jin Soon if you want a quality experience. read more

While I did enjoy my mani/pedi at Jin Soon, I do have some hesitation in giving them 5 stars, and I think they have the potential to be a lot better with customer service. The space is very narrow, which didn't bother me. However, I came at 4pm on a Saturday, which is an understandably busy time, so I was given a mani/pedi at the same time. Both felt good, and looked great, but my feet could have used some extra TLC and still need a good exfoliation. Additionally, the waiting area and nail drying area are the same, so I had my feet in one dryer on the floor, and another dyer on my lap for my hands, which was awkward because there were several women sitting right next to me on both sides. Furthermore, because they were so busy, no one came over to follow up and give me drying drops, which other clients received, and I had to interrupt someone else's manicure in order to check out since no one is stationed at the front. There is no signage stating that tips are cash only, and I wasn't told until I asked. I was not directed to an ATM, so I gave a tip with the only cash in my purse, which was less than what I would normally give. Finally, I wanted to purchase sandals so I didn't have to walk home in the flimsy pedicure flipflops or ruin my pedicure by putting on my shoes, but no one was around to ask about purchasing them and the scene was pretty hectic. I wish I could have had a more relaxing experience, and that I didn't have to hobble to the nearest avenue in the pedicure flipflops, before buying a $5 cab to take me 4 blocks home. I still want to try coming here again, but only during a time when I can expect they won't be busy. And I'm going to bring my own sandals! read more

I went here for a manicure on Saturday. I used to go to Georgette Klinger and expected something similar being that it was located on the UES. What Jin Soon was a cramped window seat for three people to get pedicures and four equally cramped tables for people to get manicures. It was not the big bowl with rose petals like the blip I saw in Vogue magazine. The manicurist all spoke to each other in a foreign language while doing people's nails. They did have a lot of colors to choose from, and my manicurist was nice and did a good job. She asked me if I wanted to pay before she started and I did. I paid $18.00. She put my hands in the hand dryer to dry and never came back. I was going to give her a tip. Oh well. If you want a good basic manicure this is the place for you. If you want luxury this it is not. read more

The location is really convenient with the Q line opening up. For UES, it is nothing exceptional, the prices are average, and the space is a little cramped. The staff was professional and the service was pleasant. The salon itself is just small and its hard to relax when everyone is crammed all together. In truth I would give them 2.5 stars: exactly 50%. The location is convenient, it appears clean and calm, it's always pretty easy to get an appointment or walk right in, and they have great colors and brand selection. The manicures are however never very good on any level: the filing is always a little crooked, the cuticles are either cut too aggressively so that I bleed, or they leave too much, and unevenly. I often have paint around my nail on my skin, even if I ask to have it cleaned off. I'm not convinced they have good cleaning methods for the tools because I haven't seen them clean them, and they don't remove them from a sealed pouch. While I get manicures regularly here and bounce around to other places on the Upper east side ever since Aries closed, I just had my first pedicure here, which was so useless that I had to leave a review. I'm 5'10 and wear a size 8.5 shoe. So I'm tall, but my foot is average. The bowl is too small to comfortably rest your feet in it, and the bowl is too close to the (hard, stiff) bench for someone my height by a long shot--I'm guessing for 5'8 and up this is not the place for you. Beyond that, everything was half done--half the amount of soaking time, half my cuticles cut (while severely and awkwardly twisting laterally my toes til they popped--why? I'm in my mid 30s and have had hundreds if not a thousand mani-pedis in nyc and this was just the most useless and the first time someone has twisted my toes, and to do such a lousy job), half my callouses filed, half hearted massage, nails painted half as well as they should have been (uneven, a little gloopy). The staff is neither friendly nor overtly hostile, so that's another 50%. I used to go to Jin soon downtown every week or every other week in 2008 or 2009 and this place is nothing like it. I've given them about six tries and am finished as of today. Not returning. read more

I don't get my nails done regularly, so when I go, I'm looking for a relaxing and pampering experience. I had a wonderful first time at Jin Soon. Rumo, my technician, was friendly and warm, the citrus tea I was offered was perfect for a rainy day, and the milk and honey manicure left my skin feeling incredibly soft. I had intended to just get my nails buffed - I'm brutal on my nails and polish never lasts - but I let a fellow customer and the technicians talk me into a color, and I'm glad I did. Their range of colors was great. When one nail bubbled a little while drying, they fixed it immediately. When I worried about a few other "bubbles" at the end, they gently and kindly pointed out that it was just some of the drying solution and could be wiped off - without making me feel bad for my confusion or lack of experience. I have gotten a few tiny chips already, but I don't think there's a nail polish made that could survive how careless I am with my hands. read more

The service is excellent and definitely the best manicure and pedicure that I have had in this city in a really long time. This nail spa is an off-shoot of the Jin Soon Spas downtown. This one on the UES is a bit bigger - there are four little thrones for pedicures, rather than the two seats on 4th St. You get nearly the same relaxing and impeccable manis and pedis here. I will mention that I used to see the owner a lot at the 4th St. location, but never uptown. I think that this may lead to the slight lapse in service that I noticed between the two spas. I have never felt at all rushed at the downtown location, whereas I have felt some of the services (including a great massage on the basic pedicure) were a little abbreviated. If you have not been to the downtown location, you would never notice, as this place exceeds any expectation you may have of a typical nail salon. My pedicure polish is usually chip free for 2-3 weeks afterward, and the price is similar to many of the other high-end salons nearby, but with a better "spa" experience. I recommend calling for an appointment, or you might be turned away. I have called the same day many times and got an appointment within an hour. An occasional minus - although they strongly recommend that cell phones not be used during the services, this doesn't always stop the rude UES ladies from jabbering away. If you get unlucky, usually a few angry glares in their direction shuts them up. read more

Fantastic polish selections and a descent manicure. But never have your eyebrows done there! The manicurist did my eyebrows and the wax was so hot I was red for hours! I was too scared to let her tweeze. Also the bathroom is terrible; a toilet behind a mirror and no sink! Way too expensive for what was offered. read more
