Upon arriving at this food court, I wasn't sure what to expect. The options were somewhat limited. I think there were only 5-6 vendors at most. The individual I went with finally decided on this place. We both were craving some mackerel. There were 3 different kinds. We decided on the broiled Atka Mackerel. The size of the mackerel surprised us. Lol We thought it would be a small to medium slice of fish. However, it was huge. I don't think I will be able to finish it alone. What surprised us even more was the flavor. It exceeded our expectations. It was super flavorful and fresh. We prefer some hot sauce & soy sauce, but honestly, it was fine the way it was. It's been a long time since I last had spicy stirfried Calamara aka Ojinga Bokeum which looked tasty. I ordered it and it took a while for this order. However, it was worth the wait. I went to a hakwon called Valley Newton for several years back in the day, and even taught there for a summer before college. The old owner, who was also my boss, has since moved on from that venture, and now he and his wife run Jin Su Sung Chan, the most happening food court stall in the Koreatown Galleria. They're nice, competent people, and the stall is well run, with friendly, efficient service. Jin Su Sung Chan has an extensive menu of homestyle Korean food, and it's all quite good, with huge portions and reasonable prices. I went for a recent lunch with my mom, aunt, and uncle, and we were able to order quickly and eat on the patio outside the food court. My mom pointed out that this patio is always full of old Korean people, a large percentage of them with trays from Jin Su Sung Chan. She says halmonis and harabeojis love the place for the outdoor seating and the satisfying, affordable food. We shared the dak bulgogi and the nakji bokkeum and both were delicious. The chicken bulgogi was super tasty, a heap of tender marinated grilled chicken and onion, a great meal with some rice and banchan. The octopus stir-fry was spicy and flavorful, with plenty of octopus, vegetables, and rice cakes, as well as udon noodles, which cost a little extra but are totally worth getting. We actually also had Jin Su Sung Chan take-out last night, my husband and I sharing the chicken and an order of bulgogi. I think the chicken is better, but if you want an enormous portion of Korean marinated beef for very little money, this place has you covered. Entrées also come with rice, seaweed soup, and several banchan--some combination of kimchi, seaweed, zucchini, bean sprouts, that sort of thing. I like the purple rice here, as well as that soothing soup. If you want an easy, casual Korean lunch, I'd recommend following the halmonis and ordering a tray from Jin Su Sung Chan. The side dishes are good also, the kimchi was to die for but the japchae was a little too oily for my taste. Price is good too! The only thing I didn't like was the styrofoam plate for the side dishes... most Koreans restaurants serve the side dishes on small plates, which makes the food a lot more appetizing. This place is Ktown's gem. I want more people to know about this amazing little counter at the Galleria food court at the same time I want to keep it to myself. Their price is very reasonable and the portion is big. Since so many Ktown restaurants have raised their price, I kind of stopped going to other sit down restaurant especially if I'm going to just grab a lunch or quick dinner by myself. I've tried other food courts like the one above Zion Market or the one in California Market building but Galleria has the best one mostly because of Jin Su Sung Chan. This food court is kinda amazing. If it were closer to where I lived, I'd come here like every wknd. First off, the food court offers options options options. Given that, this particular place in the far corner of the food court is the best in my eyes. They offer relatively traditional korean fare - mostly soups, stews, and simple dishes (not necessarily bbq plates; although they have those too). I usually get one of the specials - last time, I had the chicken yuk gae jang, a spicy broth soup with pieces of chicken, green onion, mung bean sprouts, and some noodles. It was delicious and worth the 8.95 =) The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is that they are a bit slow. Yes, their bibimbap is bland but they give you a lot of it. However, their star, and the reason I keep coming back is their soybean paste soup or denjang chigge. It's so good even family from Korea were impressed a 2nd loved it. It is inside the food court on the 2md floor of the Koreatown galleria. One tip, unless you're really really hungry, order one dish per 2 people. Also, even though it's a food court it is not "fast" food. Took my mom and a sister there once -- they had the dumpling soup and bibimbap respectively and professed to enjoy them.
