Love this plaza! They have a variety of Asian foods that are all good to try. This time I went to Hanshik, or the second from the back of the right side. I had the spicy beef soup and let me tell you. It was delicious! I love that it comes with sides as well including rice and it's all so filling. The portion sizes are enough to share so if you have a big appetite you are golden. The soup had a nice spice to it, the beef was flavorful and it also had glad noodles. I really enjoyed the soup and the sides. Service was great it is ran by older ladies and they are friendly. The ambience of it's the weekend is buzzing because so many come to eat but during the weekday it's nice and mellow. Love coming here to try all types of Asian food. I would not call this place a good value for your money. It is probably around the same price range for sit down restaurants with service like BCD Tofu House. I've wanted to try samgyetang in Koreatown and thought this would be as authentic as it gets. There is another spot at a Korean food court in the Valley, but I wanted to try it in Koreatown first. As an indecisive person, I made several rounds trying to figure out which restaurant had the food I wanted to eat and decent amount of traffic eating their food. I decided on this place because of the samgyetang not knowing what to expect as I've never tried it before at a restaurant. I've purchased it in a ready made pack from a Korean grocery store and that's about it. The wait for this soup was around 40 minutes which I thought was excessive without warning you about the wait. There's a language barrier and the lady taking orders didn't seem to speak English fluently when I asked her about my order 30 minutes into my wait. Be warned that this is not a fast food restaurant despite the appearance of being located in a Korean food food court. For $25 including the tip they guilted me into giving for no service, I didn't feel it was worth money. This soup is a bland chicken soup. It's another Korean soup you would need to season yourself. It tasted very one dimensional. I felt I was better off making my own chicken soup at home for half the price. I barely tasted any hint or earthiness of ginseng or the sweetness of jujubes. Perhaps a Korean would be better able to detect the ginseng flavor. As I was eating it, I thought I would rather have Filipino arroz caldo, which is a similar style soup with more flavor. At least I could say that I've had it. Knowing that is normally a bland soup after researching online, I don't think I would order this soup again at that price unless someone were to recommend a spot known for it. If you search for reviews of this place, most people describe the service here as "rude." I didn't find the woman rude, but a bit cold in addition to a language barrier not being able to set expectations about the long wait. If I return to this Korean food court, it seems a lot of people like the tonkotsu place or maybe the dumpling spot recommended by Eater... Or maybe the Korean street food spot at the end near the restroom. read more

It was my first time trying naengmyeon and it was delicious! Cool and refreshing but still very savory! Almost gives me virgin Bloody Mary (the drink) vibes. Food was great. I spent half of the day with my boyfriend's parents this past Saturday (which I've done before). His mom wanted to go to the mall and check out some of the Korean Cosmetics. Once that was finished up.. Everybody got a different dish at the food court; his mom ended getting something here as well for lunch. She got the shorts ribs and really liked it. I ordered the cold fish (beef) noodles. Although I've had cold Korean noodles before I've never had cold fish noodles. I asked the lady at the counter if she recommended the cold fish or cold fish (beef) and she took a pause to recommend the cold fish (beef) - both were the same price. It was delicious and refreshing on a warm day. I probably would not get fish again only because it was slightly more work to eat which normally wouldn't mind. But, as someone who was on the road, super fatigued, and dealing with post injury symptoms for a couple years now - it's really taxing - I don't have the capacity. A friend of mine is learning about the Korean culture and she's been trying different dishes. She introduced this location to me and my husband decided to give the soup a try. I feel the ambience and the service at this location is awesome. I personally felt welcomed. What I appreciate the most is that the team members who work at this location was aware that I was driving this meal home and I absolutely love the way that they gave support to the soup bowls with cardboard at the bottom of the bag. So it was easy to transport it without it spilling. I also love the portion size and the beautiful bowls and soup spoons that they supply you with. They make you feel at home. read more

Got the bulgogi wrap set here which comes with tofu soup, lettuces and raw veggies, three sides, and rice. The bulgogi was great and I really should have gotten it by itself. I would have saved $15 on the other stuff. Set includes: - bulgogi beef 5/5 very tasty - tofu soup 2/5 taste was ok I guess but there was no soup it was pasty. The bibim naeng myun is very good and is made out of buckwheat and only costs $12.99 and it's in a food court of a mall which means you don't have to tip. The mul naeng myun at this location is mediocre, but it's made of buckwheat. Buckwheat is a healthy carb, most food court businesses use potato noodles in their naeng myun. I was in this food court not too long ago and Plaza Han Shik is one of the places I haven't tried yet. Ordered a beef rib combo, was given a pager and waited patiently. Once I got buzzed, I was being given a whole different order. (Some kind of beef soup.) Informed them it wasn't what I ordered. There was a misunderstanding, I suppose... but it was a non-issue. They were willing to redo the order and get it right. It wasn't too long before I got buzzed again and they got it right that next time around. Ribs were nothing special, I've had something similar in many other Korean digs. I love that they provided a various amount of side dishes as well as rice. But honestly, what tops this whole combo is the side of soup it came with. Boy, that was seriously out of bounds! It's really hard to describe, but it just comes off with different levels and layers of flavor! I'm now curious if there's a dish with this as the center of it all! I should have asked before I left. As part of our mother-daughter trip to SoCal, my daughter and I spent a day hanging out in KoreaTown. After checking out the Yelp recommended spots in the food court, we opted for Plaza Hanshik. I usually don't resort to leaving negative reviews on yelp because I want every restaurant to have the opportunity to offer their food and services to each individual but this place left me no option. Upon receiving my food, I was about two to three spoonful's in when I noticed something that did not look like it should've been in there. I quickly scooped it up and took a closer look and saw that it was a tiny bug. I took the remaining soup along with the dead insect back to the restaurant to the lady in front. I told her what had happened and instead of apologizing she begins to make a sour face and starts snapping at me to see the bug. There was absolutely no professionalism in the way she was handling this situation and on top of that all formal Korean honorifics were dropped in the way she was addressing me. Absolutely hands down the beat fish roe/egg soup (Al Jjigae) I've had in years. Huge portions, clean and tasty banchan. Order an extra rice for $2.00 and share. At first walking into the food court is very "old school" looking and intimidating, however, there are sooo many options to choose from. Plaza Hanshik caught my attention because of its menu which hit home for me. The pricing seemed expensive ( but what isn't expensive now), but the amount of food that they serve is enough to share between two. Great quality ingredients, seasoned well, and delicious banchan. Plaza "Korean food" (in Korean script), is run by a couple. They might seem a little aloof at first, but they are good people. They serve clean tasting, good quality traditional Korean food. Their Banchan is super. Simple and fresh. Variety! Kimchi is great! Good kimchi is the gauge by I go by. If they can't get kimchi right, what else can they?! I usually get their Bulgogi or fish roe soup. I really appreciate that they cater to my low sodium request of not salty to not very salty; biggest short comings of Korean food. Give them a try!
