Despite traveling to the LA area multiple times, we rarely visit Koreatown. We have made multiple attempts to go to this restaurant, but we always ran out of time until now. The wait was worth the reward. The atmosphere inside was warm and welcoming. Set Menu with Barley ~Pumpkin Porridge | Slightly sweet and creamy. ~Banchan | We couldn't keep track of the banchan. The abundance of fresh vegetables made everything taste nutritious. ~Additional Dishes | The chicken porridge reminded us of chicken noodle soup, but more filling. The acorn jelly salad and other fermented dishes were both vibrant and packed with flavors. ~Dessert | Corn porridge with beans was the best sweet porridge dessert ever! Would like to learn to make this at home :) Menu: Aside from the set menu, there were also protein options, such as LA Kalby and Spicy Marinated Crab. Service: The servers were nice and sweet. They were able to accommodate our requests. Parking: Plenty in the parking lot. Highly Recommend!

Literally the biggest meal I've ever had oh my god. I felt like it was never ending since they just kept bringing out food. The chicken soup, barley tea, bulgogi, and kimchi salads were my favorite. I also really enjoyed the plum juice and the red bean corn desserts! If I were to go back I'd just order the bulgogi, but I'd recommend getting the platter one time because it is really a great deal and fun to try everything!

If you are vegetarian you will love this place. I have been here twice and can say that each time I loved it! Their $35 per person set menu is perfect for when you want some healthy, rejuvenating traditional Korean food. For the amount of homemade items you get, it's a great deal. However you want meat, you will have to purchase additional dishes, which can be quite pricey to add on. For $35 you get a huge variety of banchan to mix with a bowl of rice and make your own bibimbap sesame oil and Gochuchang, two different types of soup, kimchi pancakes, fried seaweed, dessert, tea, and so much more. You will definitely have food to take home. The service is prompt and the electric restaurant decor feels a bit like sitting in someone's home. It's great for when you feel like you need a home cooked meal but want to leave feeling stuffed! It can be a bit of a wait on busy days, so try coming during the weekday/off hours.

Omg sooooo good! This is the best Korean food experience I've had in the states. Came with a few friends and we really enjoyed our dinner. We chose the protein we wanted, beef ribs, and everything else was decided for us. multiple courses, variety of banchan brought to the table, side dishes, dessert! Literally everything you need and more. The table was overfilled will food. Really great place to come with friends. I'm from DC but told my friend who's visiting Cali soon to come check Boris Gogae when she is there. Showed her my picture of the table and she is so excited! Really really fantastic meal. I definitely want to come back. Also the place is super cute! It's like a little tea house and the staff are so sweet!

Oh, Borit Gogae, why does this sound so familiar! I couldn't say no when our friend group decided on doing dinner here... thankfully we got here at 5pm, beating the dinner rush. Note that parking is valet and $4. Venmo, Zelle, or cash. However, note that it may not be super safe. The keys were in the car, and the windows were down. The food itself? Amazing. We had their set menu as well as LA beef ribs, grilled spareribs, and napa wraps with pork. The set menu was quite possibly one oft he healthiest meals I've eaten, and the variety of side dishes for a personal bibimbap with unlimited barley rice was quite possibly the loudest my older vegetarian in had been excited in many years. There were a variety of soups, porridge too, and snail (yes, not fully vegetarian) too which I enjoyed. The additional foods (all protein) were also all delicious, though the LA beef ribs were a tad too saucy and lightly burnt (they usually are). The pork was fun to eat with the cabbage, too. By the time our green plum tea came, we were STUFFED, barely able to get it down. Paying was super easy, and packing takeaways was a DIY experience. The staff were all friendly and informative of what to order as well as the communicative that everyone orders at least one dish, even if they're only staying for a small part of the meal.

If you are looking for a healthy meal, this is right spot for you. This restaurant is serving authentic Korean barley rice with bunches side dishes and soups. The menu is set and I'll include the menu in the picture. The host is very hospitable and welcoming and checking us all the time They have their own parking lot so it is very convenient and no sweat There are so many paintings and some plates and cups decorated at the wall and side The set menu also includes the dessert and a cup of tea I feel fully recharged with love and joy

Came here with my bf since we were craving raw marinated crab. This was such a great experience and I'm happy we found a Korean spot this authentic. We ordered crab & the galbi along with their set menus that come with banchan. I've never seen this many side dishes and our whole table was filled!!! Everything was fresh and well seasoned. I would recommend for people who want to try little bits of everything.

I honestly went in pretty blind. A foodie friend suggested this spot, and of course I said yes. I was pleasantly surprised to find a decently sized free parking lot in the back--at least on a Wednesday night, when it was open and easy. We met around 6 pm, so the restaurant itself was also fairly quiet. The interior is eclectic and colorful, with large vibrant paintings and playful placemats. I really enjoyed the pops of color--it felt fun and gave the space a lot of personality. The menu is simple, and we both immediately opted for the $35 prix fixe menu, which was an incredible value. It included a ton of dishes--around 22 small plates--plus a bowl of barley rice and dessert. While many of the plates were small, there was plenty of variety. With all of the banchan and small plates, you essentially get to build your own bowl. Everything was tasty. The smaller dishes leaned more pickly and toward soft pastes, which worked perfectly mixed into the rice. The larger items were more substantial, like the perilla chicken soup and personal-sized kimchi pancakes. We also really enjoyed the kimchi on its own. Just when we thought it was over, dessert arrived: a refreshing cold plum tea, a bite of persimmon, and a comforting corn-and-bean porridge. The tea struck a great balance of sour and sweet, with the persimmon adding texture and the porridge providing a unique, satisfying final note. Despite the sheer number of dishes, we didn't leave feeling overly full--satisfied, but not stuffed. Overall, this is a fun, interactive way to try a wide variety of small dishes while enjoying a flavorful, well-priced meal. I'd happily come back.

Borit Gogae serves one of the most authentic Korean cuisines you can imagine. They have an extensive menu but what they're known for is for their set menu with barley rice. On this menu you are served with 27 different banchans, fit for a king. Each item was fresh, healthy and just the right amount of flavor to accompany your barley rice. My personal favorite was the sea snail with house yuzu sauce. It was light, unique, and very tasty. There is no right way to eat banchan, you can take a bit of everything and mix it all together with your rice, or eat a little bit of everything with rice as you go. It's a choose your own adventure with delicious food and that's what makes Borit Gogae so fun. As for the space it was made for optimal relaxation in mind. Lights are dim, and the tvs have relaxing marine life and landscapes playing as you eat. The staff here also exhume the same energy and every dish that came out, was served with so much gentleness. Bowls placed without clangs, and soups scooped without a sound. You will come and leave here as if you left a spa. Highly recommend just for the ambiance and service alone. Overall, if you are looking to dive deeper into Korean cuisine outside of Kbbq, then Borit Gogae is the place to go. Banchan's are a quintessential part of Korean culture and also a dying one if you ever get a chance to visit Korea. Borit Gogae specializes in this and thankfully keeps that tradition alive. Because of this I would love to come back if Im ever in town.

This is a 4.5 rounded up to a 5. The quality, seasoning, and variety of their banchan is imo the closest thing you can get to home cooked food if your umma/halmunee can throw down in the kitchen. I thought the variety of food was really well balanced and complimented the meal. My only gripe is that even though we were basically done with our meal and it would've been nice to get a few more banchan. Sadly, no one ever offered or asked. We were just given the check.

Borit Gogae was a total accidental find during a long weekend in LA--and easily one of the best surprises I've had eating out here. We stumbled in while wandering K-Town, and from the outside it's unassuming and low-key. Inside? Super traditional decor, colorful, warm, and instantly comforting, with extremely friendly staff. This ended up being one of the most healing meals I've had--especially with good company. The barley rice and banchan are 100% top tier, and not just visually beautiful but genuinely delicious. Everything felt thoughtful and nourishing. Highly recommend the set menu and adding a protein dish. It's absolutely worth it and honestly a steal for the price. Set menu + soju = elite Saturday vibes. I already dream of coming back. This place shot straight to my top LA favorites list.

After a fresh haircut in K-town, a rainy afternoon led us straight to Borit Gogae, and honestly--this was the kind of meal that makes you slow down and savor. No line thanks to the weather (a small miracle in Koreatown), and from the moment we walked in, it felt like a reset. Parking: Located in a small shopping plaza with parking available in the back, plus plenty of metered street parking nearby. For K-town standards, this is a win. Vibe / Interior: Warm, homey, and calm--the kind of place where you don't feel rushed. The space leans into a modern hanok-inspired aesthetic with dark wood furnishings and a grounded, almost meditative feel. Lots of tables that work just as well for intimate meals as they do for groups. Good for: Long, intentional meals Catching up with a close friend or family Vegetarians & vegans (this is a big one--very inclusive) Borit Gogae is especially known for its hanjeongsik-style set menus, which have been gaining traction on social media for their sheer abundance and thoughtful presentation. It's also one of those rare Korean restaurants where plant-forward diners don't feel like an afterthought. What we ordered: The barley rice set menu, skipping the additional protein--and it was more than enough. The table quickly disappeared under an impressive spread of banchan, soups, and sides. The variety alone was stunning: different textures, colors, temperatures, and bold-but-balanced flavors. What stood out most was how satisfying yet light the meal felt. I fully expected to be uncomfortably full given the quantity, but instead I felt nourished--and still had room for dessert. Truly a "every inch of the table is covered" kind of experience. A meal fit for a queen . Service: Fast, efficient, and well-paced. Once we ordered, the banchan parade began almost immediately, which added to the excitement without feeling chaotic. Value: About $45 per person including tax and tip, which felt fair given the quality, care, and volume of food. This is more of a special meal than an everyday stop, but one that delivers on value. Final thoughts: Borit Gogae is the kind of place you come to when you want to eat thoughtfully, linger a bit, and leave feeling taken care of. If you can swing a rainy day visit or an off-peak hour, even better. Would I come back? Yes--especially when I want comfort food that still feels elevated.

We had the special 2 person min bibimbap with healthy rice. The selection of vegetables that came with the set were all pretty good. For the price $35 per person I would say you get a lot of food. It also came with 2 soups. Both were ok,(one a chicken porridge and another a soybean soup with tofu) and some kimchi pancakes. Acorn jelly dish and more sides. I think 3-4 people could have eaten this amount of food and been satisfied. Nice to try a Korean traditional meal, not Korean bbq. Although I've also tried the spicy pork ribs and the beef kalbi. I recommend if you go with 4 people order 2 meal sets and one meat dish. Overall the waitstaff were friendly and service was great. I like the metal bowls they serve everything in. A lot of dishes to wash! Worth trying once at least

    How is the parking?

They have free parking in the lot behind the restaurant where you enter or street parking. You do not enter the restaurant from the street.

    Do they take reservations?

No. It's first come first serve basis.

Does any of the food contain peanuts?

I don't think so. Maybe one of the side dishes do, but it's pretty peanut free. There are sesame seeds this. Chicken and shell fish too.

Are there vegetarian options on the banchan menu, please?

Yes. Most of the ban Chan is vegetarian. Two items are seafood. You should ask if they use shrimp in their kimchee but they all seemed vegetarian to me. You should not get the set since the soup is chicken

Other than the dessert with the walnut, do the other food items contain any form of tree nut? my husband has a tree nut allergy.

    No, no tree nuts.

If you order set banchan menu, can you get a free refill?

I'm afraid it's not refilled as it is part of the main manu called Jung-sik. Banchan is not a side dishes.

There is sometimes street parking but the availability is rough, it's tough to park, and even one of the meters we ended up at just didn't work. They only charge a $5 cash service charge though, which isn't bad. We were lucky to be seated right away, even in a packed restaurant. The restaurant has a surprisingly modern design, and is comfortable for as small as it is. We were quickly served their signature kimchis and barley rice. The kimchi, particularly the yeolmu (young summer radish) kimchi, has a unique flavor profile well suited to their food. We ordered 2 bowls of their plain kalgooksu, 1 bibim milmyun, and 1 tteokbokki. The food came out fairly quickly. The kalgooksu was as expected the star of the show. The anchovy broth brings a savory complexity that seems impossible for a soup made from just dried fish and a few other ingredients. It even has a rich, almost thick, quality to it that is surprising for a fish broth. Their noodles, the titular kalgooksu, have the signature irregularity and chew of knife cut noodles. I appreciate the vegetables that always come in kalgooksu, like potato, pumpkin, and zucchini, which offer an earthy heartiness to the light soup. My only complaint is that the potato is in huge irregular chunks, and is barely cooked, though I feel like I have had this issue with many of the kalgooksu bowls I've had over the years. The bibim milmyun was solid. I think that I prefer the texture and flavor of naengmyeon buckwheat noodles, but the milmyun, which are made with mostly wheat flour, still provide a satisfying chew. The sauce tasted bright and fresh, especially with a splash of added vinegar. It also came with a small side portion of spicy pork and some rice paper to wrap. The tteokbokki was the one let down of the meal. To be fair, I wasn't expecting much out of tteokbokki at all restaurant like this whose specialty is essentially the opposite. I ordered the tteokbokki as a "safe pick" for a picky eater in the group. It turned out to be a bit mediocre in our opinion, and that friend ended up enjoying their kalgooksu anyways. If you're looking to try this dish, it's definitely one of if not the best I've had in Southern California, so I'd totally recommend it. I'll also warn to steer clear of the Garden Grove restaurant of the same name and specialty. I think it's a disappointing mimicry of this place.

The chips had no warmth to them and were slathered with decently flavorful honey butter that pooled to the bottom. 4.2/5 Mushroom bimibap - A very balanced dish with cohesive elements. Wish there were more mushrooms as they of course were the best part. The chili sauce was solid but the dish benefitted when we added another half portion of it and mixed it in. 4.4/5 Waygu - A decent flavor (definitely needed the flakey salt), portion and a nice medium rare cook, wall to wall. Good hostess. The steak took longer than expected to come out? Perhaps the kitchen messed it up and had to start over. Either that or maybe the waiters were busy. Or maybe it just takes a while to make it. Not sure. The waitress did the job competently but nothing above that. Overall, definitely not Michelin level service. 4.4/5 Ambiance A little too loud and it affected the entire vibe because I had to raise my voice to speak with the waitress. It became easier to just use nods and thumbs up. Like Cobis, a very modern and upscale restaurant that is hampered by lighting that is too dark. Pictures turned out good because I used another phone's flash. Just a little more light would be so much of an improvement without losing the romantic intent. Bathroom was average. 4.5/5 Overall, I had a solid meal that left my mood elevated. The service or food weren't as good as Cobis, Barsha, Ammatoli, or even Sonoratown - all top LA restaurants, but still worthy of a experience and I may return. 4.5/5 I would highly recommend Chois in San Diego as an extremely similar modern Korean fusion restaurant that also had better food, service, and ambiance. That place was 5/5 in every way.

Next came the main attraction: the Bossam Plate, featuring simmered and cooled pork belly sliced to perfection. When you wrap all the other ingredients together, they create the perfect bite. Just after the Bossam Plate hits the table, a bubbling cauldron of Kimchi JJigae (Kimchi Stew) follows behind just in time to help wash down the delectable bites of bossam. Don't forget to order some rice because you'll need something to soak up the stew which turns the rice into a whole meal by itself. The service was jovial and welcoming, and like other Korean establishments, they have a handy-dandy button that jolts the attention of every server working whenever you're in need of service. The small space is very cozy, just the way I like it when I'm visiting with my loved ones. They don't have an extensive menu, just the OG staple items, but I feel the taste has improved over the years. I wish Kobawoo were closer to where I live, or I would be here this weekend, but perhaps it's a good thing we're so far apart.

Very small kimchi maybe one or two bites. Three orders that I'm surprised that they give such a small amount of banchan. How can establishment justify this high priced meal for such small portions? God and I drove all the way from South Bay, stuck in traffic for almost 1 1/2 hrs of this. Maybe this is the type of place you should dine in only?? Do not ever do take out here! The food in general was just ok. Nothing special and Kimchi soup was very salty. Threw all 3. Wow, what a waste of money. Very disappointing... I guess I won't be coming here ever again.

In fact, we regularly brought visitors here. They raved about how good the spare ribs were and even insisted that their last meal before LA should be at Ham Ji Park.  Here's my belated review of what I consider the best spare ribs in LA. From the moment the Korean-style spare ribs arrived at the table, it was clear this was a dish worth savoring. Each rib bore a beautifully charred exterior--deeply caramelized without a hint of bitterness--offering that irresistible smoky aroma the moment it was placed before us. The glaze was nothing short of spectacular. A perfect balance of sweet and spicy, it clung to the meat with a glossy sheen that promised flavor in every bite. There was just enough heat to make your taste buds sit up and pay attention, but it never overwhelmed the deeper, richer notes of the sweet components. But what truly set these ribs apart was the texture. Beneath the charred surface lay meat so tender it practically fell off the bone with the gentlest tug of a fork. Each bite was juicy and succulent, the result of careful cooking and a respect for quality ingredients. Ham Ji Park, you will be missed. Thank you for the memories. Thank you for the food.

If you're searching for some of the city's best pork, then those in the know will bring up Ham Ji Park. For 2 decades, generous platters of pork ribs and pork neck stew decked every table. Now, our Korean friends lament the loss of their favorite pork joint in the city. The Koreatown proper location is located in the Royal Plaza mini-mall, just a few blocks off bustling Wilshire. Discounted parking is available in a lot across the street from the Chevron gas station. From the street, the entrance is flanked by potted plants and an enclosed street-ery. Inside, stainless steel chairs are pressed up against wooden tables, each outfitted with a metal grill. Oppressive fluorescent lighting shines down on the stone grey walls, which are left undecorated apart from a few flatscreens. Multi-lingual chatter blends with the sizzle of platters. I visited with some friends for a weeknight dinner, and about half of the tables were occupied. We shared a spread of grilled platters and sizzling soups. The meal began with a carafe of barley tea and a mostly standard spread of banchan. Across our food, the best dish was the signature Charbroiled Pork Spare Rib. The ribs were flavorful without feeling gamey, and the meat was complemented by sweet caramelized onions. The pork ribs handily outdid the good-not-great Charbroiled Beef Short Rib. Lastly, the Milt and Cod Rose with Vegetables stew was fishy and briny, appropriately flavored for the Korean palate. The service was appropriately attentive, although I would've appreciated more intentional refills of our banchan ramikens. The rib plates cost upward of $35 each, while the soup was just under $30. The portions were hearty; a single entree platter could reasonably feed 2 moderately hungry bellies. It's a shame to hear that Ham Ji Park has closed; I'm kicking myself for not trying their pork neck stew earlier.

The quality of the meat really stood out, especially the intestines. I did not expect to love them that much, but they ended up being my favorite thing we ordered. One thing I really appreciated was that they grill the meat for you so you can just relax and enjoy the food instead of stressing over cooking everything yourself. The servers were also super friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel super welcoming from start to finish. The lettuce wraps and sesame leaves are an extra $5 per plate but honestly worth it if you like making wraps with your BBQ. Overall, such a satisfying AYCE spot with great service and quality Definitely a place I'd come back to!

Since we live in the Valley, we were hesitant to make the drive because it was quite far, but it was absolutely worth it! Parking was valet only, and it was just $5. We walked in, put our name on the waitlist, and were seated after about 45 minutes on a Wednesday night. We ordered beef belly, steak, kalbi, and more, and everything was delicious. Our server was outstanding--she even helped cook our food for us, which made the experience even better. While it was a bit pricier than other Korean BBQ spots, the quality of the meat was top-notch. Highly recommend and would definitely come back!
