Craving for Bossam and decided to try this place. Their meat was tender and flavorful. Service was great and portion of the food was pretty decent. Inside was clean and also good for group. Highly recommended.

This place has been here for so long, I haven't been here in yrs! I was in the area so I decide to do a take out for lunch to take home for me and my family, such a disappointment! $76.80 for 3 dishes and what a puny portions these are, like a kid's portion. Very small kimchi maybe one or two bites. Three orders that I'm surprised that they give such a small amount of banchan. How can establishment justify this high priced meal for such small portions? God and I drove all the way from South Bay, stuck in traffic for almost 1 1/2 hrs of this. Maybe this is the type of place you should dine in only?? Do not ever do take out here! The food in general was just ok. Nothing special and Kimchi soup was very salty. Threw all 3. Wow, what a waste of money. Very disappointing... I guess I won't be coming here ever again.

Chung Guk Jang & Gamja Jeon

TL;DR: An authentic Korean spot in LA's Koreatown with great bossam and Chung Guk Jang. Prices lean a bit on the steeper side, and the small lot relies on $3 valet, but the quality makes it well worth it. The parking lot out front is super small, but they do have valet available for $3 when it gets full. When you walk in, there's a small host stand right at the front where someone will greet you and take you to a table. The dining room isn't huge, so I'm not sure if there is a wait on busy weekend nights, but just keep that in mind. Luckily, we went on a Thursday afternoon, so we were able to get seated right away. My dad brought us here before a Dodger game to get Chung Guk Jang (rich fermented soybean paste stew), which I feel like you don't find at too many Korean restaurants especially where we live in Orange County. He always says it's a dish you either love or hate. They serve it with purple rice and a bowl of chopped lettuce on the side, so we mixed the rice and lettuce into the stew to serve it up. I personally loved it, and the flavor profile reminded me a lot lie Doenjang Jjigae. We also got the Extra Large Bossam, which was so good and super filling. There were three of us total, and between the bossam, the stew, and our appetizer, we managed to finish everything. Keep that in mind if you're trying to decide on a size for your group, especially since the prices here are a bit on the steeper side. For our starter, we got the Gamja Jeon, a pan-fried potato pancake. It was crispy, delicious, and a great alternative to Haemul Pajeon since my brother has some dietary restrictions. Overall, while it is a little pricier than your average spot, the quality and traditional flavors make Kobawoo House an absolute must-visit!

The place is tucked in a corner of a plaza off 7th and Vermont. Street Parking can be difficult but they have valet for $3 (cash). Add your name to the list when you walk in. it's not a huge place but tables are spaced out so it doesn't feel you're sitting on top of others. The service was good, quick in taking our order and brining our food and extra sides (if needed). I've been here twice and ordered the same thing (bossam and kimchi pancake) and both times it was delicious. We ordered the medium size bossam for 3 of us and it was perfect serving size, but if you're really hungry or have more in the group, maybe get the larger size.

We went to Kobawoo for some bossam. I was excited for it but was let down with a mediocre meal. The banchan weren't that great which is critical to a great Korean meal. The bosom itself was good but the banchan didn't do it justice.

This is my go-to spot for seafood pancake. I've had it all over ktown and I think this place might be my favorite. I've been coming here for several years now and I know they're known for their bossam (boiled pork wrap) - it's good but I prefer to eat other dishes there. The soon tofu is good. Kalbi is good. I also love their draft makkoli. I've never had the draft version, it was tasty but the presentation was really cool. Restaurant itself is cute. Service is good. I've noticed their prices have gotten quite expensive but it seems like eating out in general has gotten expensive. Parking in their lot is valet but if possible, I'd uber to ktown.

Was craving a hearty Korean meal and this place definitely hit the spot. The galbi was the star of the show, it was so tender and flavorful, and I wish I had the money to just order 2-3 portions of it. They also had pretty hearty soups here that were super flavorful and hit the spot. My only real complaint is that the bonchon felt a little lacking compared to other Korean places I'm used to and the pricing feels a little steep, but still a great stop during my trip to LA.

    - this place is probably the closest I've gotten to a traditional Korean dining setup comparing to restaurants in korea. the inside is warm and peaceful, and most of the people dining there are speaking Korean as well so it may be tad loud - food tastes homey, I usually get the bossam combo for lunch with the doenjjang jigae (he stinky and strong) - the side dishes here are wild, they fill the whole table and it's basically a side dish buffet - seafood pancake is huge and so good, definitely something you have to try - parking sucks (as usual), but this is one of my favorite spots for comforting, quality Korean food - i definitely will say this place is pretty expensive and over the years the bossam size itself has gotten smaller

Good place for a ladies' lunch! Portions are on the smaller side but great flavors all around. I got the bossam and fermented soybean soup lunch combo. The soybean/kimchi soup is always fire at bbq places so I knew it would be good. Bossam was super tender and plenty of cabbage to wrap it in. Cabbage is on the less salty side (which I prefer) so it's got a lot of crunch. Comes with purple rice that has some chapssal in it, so it's extra chewy if you're into that. Pretty quick service near opening time but it gets busy pretty quick. $3 valet parking right in front, very convenient. Would come again but probably with women given their portion sizes lol!

Tried this place for the time this past Friday evening! Traffic and street parking around the area were abysmal at that time (plus there was a sign that said no parking on sixth street from 4pm-7pm on weekdays, which made it extra hard to find street parking). Valet parking was only $3 so I ultimately decided to go with that after not being able to find street parking. At 6:45 PM, there was no wait, which was a plus! The two of us ordered a medium-sized bossam and one yukgaejang to share. The portion size for both was good. We ended up very full, with about a third of the bossam leftover. Both items were tasty, although we both wished there yukgaejang had a little more glass noodle (there was barely any in there, it was mostly meat). The bossam was also really good, although we both personally preferred the bossam at Hangari Kalguksu because the pork at Hangari Kalguksu was softer and not stuck together, the cabbage was cut into small pieces that made it easier to eat with the pork, and it came with garlic. However, at Hangari Kalguksu, the trade off probably would have been a long wait time. Also I saw that Kobawoo was mentioned on Reddit as the place in Ktown to get bossam, so I think it's a matter of personal preference. Overall the food was still great, and we had a good time here! I also like that we didn't feel rushed at Kobawoo House. We got to take our time eating and enjoying (whereas at Hangari Kalguksu, we could feel that the waiters were waiting for us to finish so that they could seat the next guests).

What more can I say? This K-town staple consistently delivers when you're craving Korean cuisine. We started our meal with a generous portion of Haemool Pajeon (Seafood Pancake), which arrived sizzling on a hot plate reminiscent of a Chili's Fajita Plate. Next came the main attraction: the Bossam Plate, featuring simmered and cooled pork belly sliced to perfection. When you wrap all the other ingredients together, they create the perfect bite. Just after the Bossam Plate hits the table, a bubbling cauldron of Kimchi JJigae (Kimchi Stew) follows behind just in time to help wash down the delectable bites of bossam. Don't forget to order some rice because you'll need something to soak up the stew which turns the rice into a whole meal by itself. The service was jovial and welcoming, and like other Korean establishments, they have a handy-dandy button that jolts the attention of every server working whenever you're in need of service. The small space is very cozy, just the way I like it when I'm visiting with my loved ones. They don't have an extensive menu, just the OG staple items, but I feel the taste has improved over the years. I wish Kobawoo were closer to where I live, or I would be here this weekend, but perhaps it's a good thing we're so far apart.

This place is goated. The place is traditional vibes, service is decent. The food is where it's at. Bossam is likely the best in ktown. The sides also smack. This is a ktown staple.

There was a posting that said they're closed on Tuesdays, but the business information shows they are open Tuesdays. Does anyone know whether they are open for business on Tuesdays?

Do they serve oysters with the bossam?

No. Just seaujeot in the radish salad.

    Do they still have japchae?

Is there usually plenty of parking during dinner hours?

Not really but they do offer valet service

Has your draft makgeolli been through the pasteurization process?

Their makgeolli is not draft .. it is a bottled rice wine that pasteurized in low temperatures.

What's a good item to order?

Are you guys open for take out during this time?

Are they open for takeout? We called and they appear to be closed.

Just posted today 4/13/20 that they're doing takeouts! U can call directly or use postmates.

    Are they kind?

The people and service are very helpful and attentive.

How crowded does it get here during lunch? Is there a waiting list if you come at 11:30 am?

It gets very crowded and there is always a wait at lunch time. Earlier or later is better. We went at 11:30 and there was a short wait before and same goes for around 1:15. Don't forget the free coffee from the machine by the waiting area.

On our latest visit we took the Metro, exited at Wilshire/Normandie Station, and walked 8 minutes over. The restaurant seems to have updated their décor to a more modern and new look since my last visit. Also they have introduced a lot of new menu items, so it felt like an appropriate time to update my review and renew my support for the business. On prior visits I have tried both the Clam Kalguksu ($22.99) and the Chicken Kalguksu ($22.99). Both are delicious depending on what protein you are craving. The broth is incredible soothing and great for a cold day or just anytime you need comfort food. The noodles are chewy and pillowy soft, it just melts in your mouth. When we arrived on our latest visit it was as busy and popular as I remembered. We were lucky that they were able to seat us right away. This latest visit my boyfriend and I tried new items from their menu. My boyfriend had the Tokmanuguk ($20.99) which has rice cakes, dumplings, beef, egg, and carrot in their anchovy broth. I had the Chicken Jook ($23.99) which is the Korean version of a chicken porridge that comes with half a small chicken, green onions, garlic, toasted sesame seeds, squash, onions and topped off with a smidge of sesame oil. Our meals came with a little palette cleansing introduction of barley rice. Just a few bites, but it sets up your tastebuds for the meal. They also had some side dishes for the table. The food took a while to come out, but understandable for how busy they are. This food is made with love and your patience will be rewarded. When it came, it was SO DELICIOUS! I tried a bit of my boyfriend's food and it was so comforting. Perfect for those who like the chewiness of the Korean rice cakes or dumplings. I just love my chicken porridge a little more cause I'm obsessed with porridge whenever I can get it. I love how much vegetables Koreans are able to hide in their porridge while making the veggies so tiny, you won't even notice it. So healthy, delicious, and soothing. It was like a hug for my soul. Also, the portion was huge and both my boyfriend and I had a portion togo that was the size of another meal. You can't go wrong with their food here. I definitely want to make an effort to come back more often. Until next time!

Me and friend started with drinks at the bar - I got the hwachae milk punch, a pretty pink sip! My friend got the espresso martini, their take made with cold brew soju, Korean coffee mix, and makgeolli. Both were fun, well-balanced ways to kick off the night. Their honey butter chips were pretty delectable - fresh-cut potato, fried until crunchy and airy, then drizzled with a honey butter glaze that channels those nostalgic honey butter chip snacks. The sauce was good but can definitely be a sweetness overload, so if you don't have a sweet tooth, I would avoid ordering. Got the pine nut cold noodles, which was refreshing on a summer day - white noodles in a chilled soy milk broth with pine nut. The pine flavor was pretty subtle, so if you're into that, definitely get this, but for me it was just okay. The pork jowl was delicious though - comes with chili crisp and garlic rice, and we ended up taking some home because we couldn't finish it all! Service was great - we sat at the bar and got to watch the bartender work and chat. Parking can be hit or miss; you can either park in the several garage structures around ktown or the small paid lot in the Danbi plaza, but we came on a Thursday night and it was still pretty busy. Overall, a 9/10 meal with good vibes, cute drinks, and delicious food. Already dreaming about trying the galbi next time I'm here!

We went for the DineLA menu. We had reservations and were immediately seated. Overall, the restaurant had a modern, relaxed vibe. Our server was very personable and helped me choose the Kimchi Mule, which turned out to be an excellent choice. The food started rolling out right away, beginning with the Honey Butter Potato Chips. They were good, but probably not something I would order again. Next came the kimchi watermelon and spicy sashimi noodles, and I was impressed with both. I had a hard time imagining what kimchi watermelon would taste like and was surprised by how much I liked it. The spicy sashimi noodles were the standout for me. I kept going back for another bite and would come back just for those. The Corn and Cheese Roll came out next along with the Pork Jowl. Both were good, although if I returned, I would probably try something different. Up until that point, everything had gone extremely well. The food came out at a good pace, people checked on us, our waters were refilled, and dishes were cleared almost as soon as we finished them. Then we waited. And waited some more. Our server kept apologizing and telling us, "The dessert is coming!" After at least 20 minutes, we started talking about simply leaving without it. I finally flagged down the host and asked if there was a problem in the kitchen because we had been waiting so long for the parfait. A few minutes later, he came back and explained that there was an issue involving the whipped cream. At that point I asked how much longer we were expected to wait. Eventually the parfait arrived, and I couldn't help thinking that we had waited close to half an hour for what amounted to a small dollop of whipped cream on top. To make matters worse, the dessert wasn't very good. We couldn't finish it. I left disappointed, especially because the rest of the meal had gone so well. I know the kitchen delay wasn't our server's fault, but I would have expected someone to proactively explain what was happening or offer us another dessert rather than leaving us sitting there wondering when--or if--it was coming.

If you're searching for some of the city's best pork, then those in the know will bring up Ham Ji Park. For 2 decades, generous platters of pork ribs and pork neck stew decked every table. Now, our Korean friends lament the loss of their favorite pork joint in the city. The Koreatown proper location is located in the Royal Plaza mini-mall, just a few blocks off bustling Wilshire. Discounted parking is available in a lot across the street from the Chevron gas station. From the street, the entrance is flanked by potted plants and an enclosed street-ery. Inside, stainless steel chairs are pressed up against wooden tables, each outfitted with a metal grill. Oppressive fluorescent lighting shines down on the stone grey walls, which are left undecorated apart from a few flatscreens. Multi-lingual chatter blends with the sizzle of platters. I visited with some friends for a weeknight dinner, and about half of the tables were occupied. We shared a spread of grilled platters and sizzling soups. The meal began with a carafe of barley tea and a mostly standard spread of banchan. Across our food, the best dish was the signature Charbroiled Pork Spare Rib. The ribs were flavorful without feeling gamey, and the meat was complemented by sweet caramelized onions. The pork ribs handily outdid the good-not-great Charbroiled Beef Short Rib. Lastly, the Milt and Cod Rose with Vegetables stew was fishy and briny, appropriately flavored for the Korean palate. The service was appropriately attentive, although I would've appreciated more intentional refills of our banchan ramikens. The rib plates cost upward of $35 each, while the soup was just under $30. The portions were hearty; a single entree platter could reasonably feed 2 moderately hungry bellies. It's a shame to hear that Ham Ji Park has closed; I'm kicking myself for not trying their pork neck stew earlier.

This used to be my #1 spot for cold noodles but our other fav place was closed today so we decided to come here. As you can see, the size of the cold noodles became smaller. Everything was packed in this small bowl which made it harder to eat. I think they changed the noodles they use because it wasn't doing anything texture wise. It used to be chewy and had a good buckwheat flavor. The broth tasted.. like water with a splash of bone broth. The quality of galbi was also a disappointing as I feel like it's became less and the meat was burnt with more fat/chewy bits. The leek pancake was ok but again, comparing it to my picture from January, it was bigger in size and more dough-y. Service was decent previously but it felt a bit cold today. Again, super bummed because we still love this place but I probably won't be ordering their combo again. You can see in my pictures how often we used to order the cold noodles from here and you can compare the quality.

We were here on Saturday around 4pm so it was just a short wait for them to set a table for us…read more They have a good variety and quality meat options. The banchan spread had a few items i hadn't had elsewhere before, such as the rice noodle squares (I think that's what they are) and large slices of pickled radish. These were perfect to use to wrap pieces of meat. Everything we tried was delicious! For ayce I believe the time limit is 2 hours. The grill was different from the ones I've seen at other Kbbq, it looked like some sort of stone material. Throughout our meal the waitress would clean the grill, not just scraping off the stuck bits but also using water to clean it. I felt this really improved the eating experience. Service was great! All the employees we interacted with were friendly. Our waitress came by often to check on us and get additional meat orders, as well as to cook the meat. There were two tables celebrating birthdays, the staff would gather at those table, it was very lively. The restaurant is situated in a small lot with some parking but is valet parking, which costs $5. Convenient during peak hours when street parking is difficult to find. Per one of the employees at the restaurant there was no time limit for parking. It was a great first experience and would be back when I'm in the area.

This…read morespot is known for their traditional flat stone than the metal grill that you see at other spots. We got reservations for a Monday night and it was a little more than half capacity. We were 5 people at 7pm. When we got in, we were welcomed right away with a table set up with our side dishes, plates with sauces and utensils. There were at least 6-7 different side dishes like garlic spinach, kimchi, spicy cucumbers, bean sprouts, mashed potatoes, spicy fish cakes and bean sprouts. We ordered a bunch of items including the Beef tongue, Beef brisket, Marinated short rib (Galbi), Pork Jowl and Chicken. The beef tongue was by far the tastiest because it was not overly marinated. I liked the pork jowl too because of its chewiness and you can grill it longer to make it crispy. The marinated short ribs were good too. Since the servers cook the meats for you, and when they cook the ribs, they take the bone off too! We requested the bone in since it makes the meat tastier! For sides, we also order the salad and some cheesy corn. The salad was refreshing. Unfortunately the cheesy corn was a bit too creamy for me. I think less cream and more cheese would have made it better. All, don't skip out on the kimchi fried rice at the end. They toss in some rice, sour kimchi, seaweed and cheese. The server even made a heart for us! The rice soaks up all the meat juices on the stone that makes it more tastier!
