This is one of the "diner" type places of choice in the Berkley/Park Avenue area of Rochester. The food is basically diner type of food but with a Greek accent to it. It's the location and setting that appeal to me more than does their food, but their food is rather good. The interior is pleasant and clean though their service tends to be on the slow slide. On weekends, especially brunchy time, it gets crowded but that makes it into one of the best of the people watching places you can find in Rochester. read more

Another place that I remember being better than it actually is. Pretty standard diner fare, nothing to write home about except that the staff is friendly and you can bank on a decent meal. Somehow there is usually a wait- my husband and I came on a weekday at lunch and there was a wait. I enjoyed the option of sitting outside. Stopped in for breakfast, at the suggestion of a Rochester local, and I am glad I did. Started out with a mimosa for my wife and a Stella Cidre for me, nice to have the adult beverage option. Breakfast for me consisted of Poutine with two fried eggs on top, which was delicious and a side of corn beef hash, now I could do a whole review of the freshly made hash but let it be known....best I have ever had anywhere. My wife had the Bleu cheese and mushroom omelet, she loved it , I tried a bite and it was tangy and creamy and delicious. Our group of 8 came on Father's Day morning for brunch. Despite it being very busy, we were seated right away inside. Our server was really sweet especially with our two little ones. She was fast and efficient at bringing coffee, drink refills etc. I personally ordered the Michael's Benedict. The difference from the original is the added mushrooms and cheddar cheese. It was rich, filling and decadent. I would definitely order this again. According to all of my family members their meals were good as well. There was always a hope in the back of our minds that Jine's would become The Hangout; the Monk's Diner to our Jerry Seinfeld and George Costanza. But every time we went we tried something different, hoping to find that one thing that was really good... Like the neutral color palette and unoffensive décor, everything at Jine's is pretty good but will never evoke a strong reaction from anyone either way. The big steak fries are good, and the club sandwiches are good, the falafel is good, breakfast is good, the bathroom smells alright. On the topic of club sandwiches: what are the dues for that club? I've have been going to this restaraunt about two times a week since august. The omelets are huge and delicious. The eggs enchilada is a very different style but tasty. The portions are huge and the service is great. I've tried almost everything on the menu and have not been disappointed. The menu also has a ton of vegetarian options. I have passed Jines many times on the way to work, but had never eaten there until this afternoon. My boyfriend and I joined two friends there for a late lunch/brunch, and were overall very pleased with the service and our food. When we originally arrived, we were told it would be a fifteen minute wait for a table. However, after waiting about three minutes, we were seated in the dining room. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, and even on a busy Sunday afternoon, we received our drinks and food in a timely manner. Several of us ordered breakfast, and my boyfriend ordered the lamb burger. My mushroom and blue cheese omlette was full of flavor, and a decent size. I only wish that there was more blue cheese to cut through the sage and thyme used to cook the mushrooms. Another guest had the pumpkin pancakes, which came in a decent size stack, and were quite good (from what I was told). The banana bread french toast also looked great, and as the other reviewers said, it's a 'can't miss' breakfast item. My boyfriend liked his lamb burger, but wished it was a little bigger. He ended up finishing my omlette and hash browns, since I had devoured my four (!!) pieces of rye toast. All in all, it was a great meal, and we will be back for sure. My favorite part about Jine's is that I get to make jokes about the female Berjiner. Ha ha, Berjiner! Jine's, what a great name for anything. I made the mistake of ordering the omelette with tomato, basil, and mozzarella cheese. The other items on the menu looked to be hundreds of times better; I have no idea why I didn't pick something else. One of my lucky breakfast companions got the hash and eggs which immediately registered an 8 on the food boner scale, while the other got some kind of omelette that made my bowels shake and my sphincter pucker. Or maybe that was the endless cup of coffee that I had. Whichever, hard to say. The service was good, the coffee was good, and the ambiance was good. My omelette was a little bit underwhelming in terms of flavor but it was cooked correctly. I went there as hungry as I could be and still couldn't finish my breakfast. We got there at 8am on Sunday morning and there were plenty of open places to sit. Our waitress was lovely, attentive, and patient. My friend and I had never been but the commercials made us want to try it. I got the creme brûlée oatmeal and orange marmalade french toast. I loved the oatmeal so much. It was delicious and filling. I only want my oatmeal brûléed from now on. The orange marmalade french toast was also very tasty. I got the shirt stack thank goodness. It needed the syrup but that added so much it made it even better. My friend got the mushroom omelet. It was good and he finished it. I got a taste but was loving my choices too much to go back for his. I also got an iced coffee for the same price as my friends normal hot coffee. That's a win! We ate at Jines while visiting friends in Rochester. This was BY FAR the best eggs Benedict that I EVER had (I had the Michael Benedict). YES, EVER!! We were 8 people so I got to taste their Belgian Waffles - great, and pumpkin pancakes - awesome. If you are anywhere near the area, the eggs Benedict here cannot be missed!!! My boyfriend took me here for breakfast when we first started dating. We both couldn't sleep one Sunday morning and he said it would get crowded if we waited to go, so we opened up the place at 7am. By the time we left, probably 45 minutes later the place was getting busy. The restaurant has a cute, nice and clean interior - I'd say better than most other diners I've been to. The menu was pretty large, but I decided on the banana bread french toast based on how magical it sounded and the fact that it was marked as a popular choice. And it was just as great as it sounded! Jine's - Park Avenue. 1/31/10 - Bellyman has been a fan of Eggs Benedict ever since he first tried it on a trip to Canada. Bellyman just always felt a bit disappointed by the ham, probably because the first time he had it it had good, salty, Canadian back bacon that really made it pop. Jine's twist on Eggs Benedict: HASH Benedict! Poached eggs, corned beef hash and American cheese on a toasted English muffin covered with Hollandaise sauce! Sold! (But, Bellyman will skip cheese, please! Sounds like too much.) Although Jine's doesn't make their own hash, they cooked it PERFECTLY! Bellyman hasn't had hash that good in a really long time, it was really impressive. Mrs. Bellyman got pancakes, as did Little Belly, and both inhaled them. Not greasy, with some apple-jack sauce (get it on the side she says). Mrs. Bellyman NEVER eats a full plate of pancakes, so her cleaning this one says a lot about their quality. I've eaten here a couple times for breakfast and it's been pretty good every time. Not sure I've ever tried to eat any other kind of meal here since there are so many other lunch/dinner places in and around this area. We ate here as recently as the day after Christmas. We had a party of 10. We called ahead to make sure they would be able to accommodate us, and they were very willing to do so, in spite of the fact that we changed the headcount on them a couple times. It was a bit cramped, but no worse than it would have been any place else. Our waitress was great. She was very attentive but out of the way. My coffee cup was never empty, which was impressive considering how busy it was. I had some banana bread french toast, which was pretty good and filling. Almost too filling considering I was just coming off two solid days of Christmas feasting. I almost wanted it to be a little sweeter though. Everyone else we were with seemed to be enjoying their breakfasts as well. Jines is a great neighborhood restaurant perfect for a weekend breakfast. In the summertime, they put tables out on the sidewalk so you can eat outside which is great. It's a popular neighborhood so if you're into people watching, it's a great place to do that. Ahh, Jines... I have given them many chances at the suggestion of my neighbor (we both live in the Park Ave area), but I think I have tried enough. At my first visit I received a cracked wine glass that my friend luckily pointed out before I cut my mouth on it. The waitress took back the glass and returned with another less lip-threatening one. I ordered on of the specials (some scallop dish I cannot recall the name of), and when it arrived I saw to my dismay that there were five extremely small scallops abed an enormous plate of pasta. The word "pasta" was nowhere to be seen on the specials menu for this dish. A friend of mine had also ordered a scallop dish, and when he noticed the severe difference between our portions I decided to make a comment to the waitress. She said that they were done by weight but that she would still speak with the chef. Time passed and I decided that it wasn't worth the complaint, so I advised the waitress of this and dug into my meal. A bus boy came by to refill our waters, at which point I notice a fly in my friend's glass. I brought this up and the bus boy said something about "extra protein" and walked off. Normally this wouldn't bother me, but I guess I was just a bit bitter about the whole experience already. Moments later a grumpy man in a chef's uniform came over to our table and groaned, "I heard there was a... scallop situation... over here?" I apologized and said, no, no it's all fine. We've sorted it out. He rolled his eyes and walked away. Really great service, eh? I returned three times after that, and every time the service and food were mediocre. Was very happy with our unexpected brunch here! We were initially planning on going to the Frog Pond next door, but ended up here, and we're glad we did! The restaurant was large, with indoor and outdoor seating available. Was a little busy on the weekend, but that was to be expected. Regardless, the wait ended up only being ~15 minutes. The interior was very clean and nice, and I felt that we had great customer service. The wait staff was very friendly, and spent a little extra time with customers and joking with some children who were at the table next to us. I had the eggs benedict, which I thought was delicious. Really hit or miss with service. Ive had the same waitress twice now be nasty because I order a mimosa? She asks for my ID with doubt in her tone and even though that's flattering, she acts like I've personally offended her by ordering something that's going to hike up my bill anyway. They also have unique items such as homemade hash. Today I just had a bacon and cheese omelette and it was very good. Lots of cheese and a ton of bacon. My husband and I went to Jines tonight for dinner with friends and the best part of the meal was the company. My husband did like his wrap but my hot turkey sandwich was not good at all. It said the turkey was roasted in house but once I removed the top slice of bread I could tell it was not home roasted. It was tough and very thinly sliced and flavorless. The bread was huge and doughy white bread which was quickly removed to the side of the plate. The gravy was very pale and bland and not what I would think of as turkey gravy at all. I guess the mashed potatoes were okay but that and the canned cranberry sauce was the best part of the meal. I was so disappointed with this meal and of course the parking issue for Park Ave is another reason I will not be returning to this restaurant. There are many more restaurants in Rochester with better food and better parking. I have heard the breakfast and brunch is good but I am not interested in finding out any time soon. read more

Went to lunch here for the 1st time on Tuesday because Esan's was closed, 3rd time this has happened recently... The lunches that came out looked great but I felt like a salad for some reason?? It was a bad choice in hindsight but I might have just ordered the wrong one? I sleeved a Chicken salad from the specials menu and it came with walnuts and mandarin oranges among greens and other things. Not sure why I ordered this but I should have just ordered a Greek salad w/ chicken, my favorite. The waitress offered me bread which was a nice loaf of Italian bread so that was nice of her! I actually tried to avoid bread but lo and behold it found me anyway, fail on that I guess... I like the Park Ave location and the atmosphere so there is that. I would like to go back for dinner sometime but will probably jut go for lunch again since I work nearby.
