Definitely check this place out! It's pretty small and in a strip mall type area but shouldn't be skipped over. I stopped by after hiking Mt. Elden. The place has a cute lunchbox theme complete with old metal lunchboxes placed around. The guy at the counter was super kind and was bussing tables/ refilling drinks when things got slow. For $10.50 (!) I had 1/2 of the perky turkey sandwich and a cup of their white chicken chili. The sandwich was simple and perfect with good flavors. The soup was pretty amazing and piping hot! This will definitely be a place that I hit again and again!

First timers... we had the porky pine salad, Cuban sandwich with a side of the lemon chicken soup. Absolutely fantastic!!! The service is so very nice and the ambiance was relaxing. Thank you for a nice lunch!

Humble and friendly little sandwich shop that dishes out handcrafted sandwiches & soup fair. They even have a little gift shop. We ordered a simple half soup and half sandwich that did not disappoint! The bread was soft and added a nice contrast to the ham and fresh ingredients within the sandwich. I really wanted to try the tomato soup but all they had was the cream of mushroom and am delightfully surprised on how good it was! The mushrooms were plentiful and the savory soup broth was very delicious. Our friend ordered the side of bow tie pasta and it looked just as good as the rest of the food. It was closer to closing time before 3pm so shop was not as busy. They also have a nice selection of pastries to add to your meal. Great choice for a quick bite while out in Flag!

This place is so good! The sandwiches and sides are super fresh and delicious. I thought my Nutclucker sandwich half had lovely flavors and textures with bright freshness. I wouldn't have minded just a touch of acidity to round out the flavors. They have so many awesome side options which I appreciate. The pasta side salad was delightfully flavored with perfectly cooked pasta. Would definitely come back in the future!

The workers here are tremendous. The cooks are outstanding and pack everything with flavors! The pastries are very generous and share size! The selection is amazing from breakfast to lunch soup, salad and sandwiches. They even cater for big social events! It's so cozy and such a nostalgic feel. They also sell vintage lunchboxes through out their store. You must try, especially for brunch with friends!

The scholar with the namesake Arnold once proclaimed "I'll be back". With this being said, I will be back here to Jitters, totally awesome place! This place brings the TLC. Great service and homestyle feeling. The person working the front was very friendly and easy to talk to. The decor is casual. Very busy at lunch and so give them grace on the time. Saw lots of take out orders, This is a no nonsense sandwich place, hot and cold. As a turkey sandwich connoisseur, the perky turkey hit the spot, the bread was amazing. I usually enjoy a whole grain but the white bread was some of the best I have had. The turkey was fresh and veggies were cold and crisp. Yes the iced tea was epic. Thanks Jitters!!

Vintage lunch boxes decorate the restaurant

My husband and I have eaten at Jitters at least six times this summer while staying in Flagstaff. We have eaten there many times over the years. We love this restaurant. For breakfast my husband usually gets pork Carnitas Sabroso on a croissant. I vary my breakfasts but always get a latte (or two). The quiches are very good. I like the scrambled eggs with bacon and cheese on a croissant. Breakfast is served until 10:30 am. My favorite lunch sandwich is the Nutclucker (chicken salad). For a lunch side I always get the vegetable ribbons. You can get the Nutclucker as a salad. The soups are very good. We visit on the First Friday of every month to get Navajo Tacos. We try to resist the cookies but they are excellent and freeze well. The restaurant has seating indoors, and outdoors where dogs are welcome. The interior is decorated with a fantastic collection of vintage lunch boxes. The service is very good. Jitters was recently awarded the food concession at Lowell Observatory. At Lowell the cafe is called Planet X but the food is the pretty much the same as at Jitters. Planet X stays open late but Jitters closes at 3:00 and on Sundays.

I was visiting Flagstaff for an afternoon and decided to stop by Jitter's Lunchbox for a sandwich. I had a long day of hiking ahead of me so I wanted something filling and something that would give me energy for my hike. This was the perfect place! I ordered the perky turkey sandwich on white bread with vegetables on the side. All of it was great. If you're in flagstaff, give this place a try.

Stopped in Flag for a day and thought we'd drop in one of the slew of quaint cafes in town, as this one had "high reviews". Cuban sandwich was small. Very thinly shaved pork does not constitute "pork loin roast" and thinly shaved pickles with gobs of spicy mustard that will blow your eyeballs outta the sockets does not a Cuban one make. 6 bucks for watered down coffee. Veggie "shavings" leave more than a little to be desired and of course the ranch is watered down. It's cheap and chincy overall. Nearly 40 bucks for lunch for two, only one drink read more

A cute lunch spot! Their only open for breakfast and lunch and lunch is served until 10:30. It's about $10+ a plate for a sandwich and a side, and you have to walk up to the counter to pay and order then they'll bring your food to the table. I had the carnitas sandwich and it was just the right amount of spice and delish! The m n m cookies are yummy too. I might try a different site aside from the pasta salad next time for more flavor, and I wish they have you real water cups with ice instead of plastic water cooler cups. There is a patio too which is a bonus! read more

We had the first day, an Cranbirdie, and Texas Southwest Dip excellent sandwiches with potato salad, pasta salad, chocolate chip cookie.. Second time my girlfriend had another Cranbirdie with extra cranberry sauce, cream cheese and I have the Santa Fe Carnita excellent with potato salad and peanut butter cookie. The amount of the meat is very abundant. The last I was there I got another Southwest Dip. The service was great. Highly recommend read more

Hidden away in a shopping center so you might miss it if you're not looking for it. Food was good my daughter and I both got a sandwich. The tea of day I didn't care for myself. I should have written this review long ago. I love this place. They consistently produce excellent sandwiches, soups and sides. My go to is the Dagwood. My cousin and I got takeout from here for lunch one day while visiting Flagstaff. I got a vegetarian salad and she got an egg salad sandwich. I was just very underwhelmed with my salad. It was basically just a side salad. Nothing special at all. My cousin was equally underwhelmed with her egg salad sandwich. She said it was really heavy on the mustard. For a place that markets themselves as being a lunch shop I just expected more. The food seemed fresh and wasn't disgusting, but it was certainly not spectacular. I'm sure there are much better options in the area. read more

The staff are so friendly & helpful here! I asked for their suggestions on which sandwich to get & tried the egg salad one with their Mediterranean soup today. It was good & as per the last time I love that every sandwich can be made gluten free. Think I prefer their hot sandwiches personally, though it may have been due to it being chilly today, but what I got was still good. Tried their espresso after & that was delicious with a bit of sugar free caramel syrup with half & half. Low-key perfection for what I'd been craving. I'll have to come back & try other options but I'm excited about this as a great lunch spot! They're good about having tables far enough from each other, offering hand sanitizer & the staff wearing masks & diligently cleaning between customers as well. read more

I would give higher rating except that all the soups always have way too much salt in them. I have tried all the soups and find the ingredients fresh and well crafted with the exception of over salting the soups. I keep trying the soups because they sound so good but would be much tastier if less salt was used. Give the other ingredients a chance to come out and not be so overwhelmed by salt. Customer service is quick and the staff is friendly which makes it a pleasure to come here. Delicious coffee and tea selections to accompany the sandwiches or salads. Overall a great little coffee shop. read more

A bit pricy, but my turkey on artisan roll was pretty tasty. According to the counter person, they make the desserts in house, so hubby ordered the Bavarian cream thing. He said it was heavenly. I'm not into sweets, so I can't attest to that. Cool motif. I enjoyed looking at all the replica lunchboxes from way back when. I didn't find a Strawberry Shortcake lunch box I used to own. read more

For the first visit, I had a full order for my wife and I - meaning we included items from the bakery and the deli. Order: one Cuban, one Nutclucker (WHAT an unfortunate name, especially if you forget the name of the sandwich and all your guesses are dirty), two sides of farfalle pasta salad, one chocolate chip cookie, and one cinnamon roll. What We Thought: The sandwiches are worth $10, but just. The Cuban was enhanced by the pickle and sweet carrot slices as well as a very tasty, strong mustard. The roll was tender and the meat sliced a little thin for me, but the result was a nice, soft, comforting hot sandwich. My wife enjoyed the nutclucker sandwich - basil and chicken with cashew toppings - just as much. The farfalle had a good amount of basil & olive oil and was just the right size. The bakery items pass muster, but that's it. The cookie was over baked and the cinnamon roll too thick plus a little dry. Despite that, they were appetizing. In The Future: this is a good place to eat in, with ample space inside and an appealing interior design. The display of lunchboxes is a lot of fun. Definitely worth a visit as the East side needs better neighborhood eateries. read more

Voted Best Lunch Spot in Flagstaff for 2016 & 2017 Lunch specialties include: hot and cold gourmet sandwiches and paninis, homemade soups, unique salads, and fresh baked cookies and pastries. We offer coffee specialty drinks and feature a full line of The Republic of Teas' products. For soups lovers, the Lunchbox creates two made-from-scratch soups daily, and offers vegetarian/vegan and gluten-free soups options throughout the week. Since all sandwiches are made to order, the Lunchbox can accommodate dietary restrictions including gluten free, dairy free, and low carb needs. All sandwiches come with a choice of our signature bowtie pasta salad, fresh veggie ribbons with rosemary ranch dipping sauce, or regular or jalapeno kettle chips. We're the local lunch spot with weekly features to keep the menu fresh. Our lunch options also include soup and salad, 1/2 sandwich and soup or salad, and quiche with salad/soup options for smaller appetites. Light breakfast items are available even during lunch hours including homemade quiche, loaded oatmeal, and fresh baked goods including scones, cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting, muffins, and specialty breads such as banana and zucchini.

History

Established in 1996.

How it began: The Lunchbox's creators, Reggie and Sharlene Fouser, opened Jitters in beautiful Flagstaff in 1996. To have more time for their family, they made the tough decision in 2001 to sell the restaurant. Over the years, the Fousers continued to miss serving their special customers, who were more like family than customers. In early 2012 the Fousers launched Jitter's Lunchbox to fill a niche to provide quick, healthily lunches to the Flagstaff business community, In this trimmed down version of the original Jitters, the Fousers brought back most all of the original lunch favorites, and added additional items such as hot sandwiches, and new soup recipes so there is always something for everyone to enjoy. New Location: Sometimes to move forward you have to go back. After their lease was not renewed on Fourth St., the original Jitters location on Route 66 became available. In Nov 2014 the Lunchbox relocated just three miles down the road to the spot that feels like home!

Meet the Business Owner: Reggie and Sharlene F.

Reggie & Sharlene Fouser have restaurants in their blood! Having worked for others in all aspects of the industry, in 1996 they decided to branch out on their own and opened Jitter's Gourmet Coffee and Cafe on historic Route 66 in Flagstaff. Other opportunities called and in 2001 the Fouser's sold Jitters, but the love of creating great food and filling people's bellies kept drawing them back to the food business. Identifying a niche for fast, healthy lunch alternatives for the business community, the Fousers jumped back into the fire in 2012 opening Jitter's Lunchbox. Forced to move locations, the last project the Fouser's undertook was to seamlessly relocate the Lunchbox to its new location. Even though the new location is just three miles down the road, the effort was the same as opening a new restaurant. The move was accomplished in Nov 2014, and the Fousers are back focusing on creating a perfect lunch spot for locals and visitors alike.

I honestly could not taste any graham or marshmallow flavor, but it definitely was a stronger and sweeter coffee than the Dark Sky, which is what my friend got. The Dark Sky had very subtle mint flavor, and as acid mint lovers, we wish there would have been more! Overall, a really great cafe that I would frequent again, especially when shopping or walking around downtown.

I ordered their endless coffee, my wife ordered a bottled coke that came with a glass and ice. As it was just after 10 AM, We decided to order breakfast. My wife ordered biscuits and gravy with bacon. This is served with two biscuits smothered in gravy with bacon crumbles sprinkled on the gravy and fried county potatoes. There is no strips of bacon, just a lot of bacon crumbles. The county potatoes are small (just about large cherry tomato size) potatoes that are cut in half and fried. The outside is crispy, the inside is soft and well seasoned. Perfect with the gravy. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with sausage that comes either in links or patties. I chose the patties and the addition of two eggs over-easy. The biscuits were crispy on the outside, soft and crumbly on the inside. A very well baked biscuit. The white gravy was seasoned well and delicious. One of the better tasting gravy we have had in a while, although I prefer a sausage gravy. The two sausage patties were properly cooked and definitely added to the overall flavor of the gravy and eggs (cooked properly). To me the county potatoes were the best addition to the plate as I used them to soak up the gravy and egg yolk after the biscuits were gone. I would have liked to see a larger portion of gravy and potatoes on my plate, as my wife's plate had more of both. Likely had to do with the two eggs that occupied real estate on my plate. The endless coffee stayed true to its name, I never ran out of coffee and there was both packaged sugar, sugar substitutes, three types of coffee creamer (half and half, French vanilla and Hazel nut?) Overall the service was attentive, friendly and the food was good and arrived in a reasonable time frame. I would definitely return to the Toasted Owl again.

The portion was generous and the salad was absolutely delicious. They let the flavor of the chevre & pine nuts really shine through by adding a very light olive oil based dressing. We then shared our favorite pizza, the Diavola, which was delicious as always. Their pizza crust is some of the best in the western U.S. I love the convenience of enjoying Pizzicletta at Dark Sky, but I think we'll be coming to this location from now on. We loved the ambiance and slightly expanded menu offered here. Plus, grabbing drinks two doors down at Mother Road before/after is an added bonus!

After eating next door for a lunch, we saw the signs all over MartAnne's claiming they are "The…read moreHouse That Chilaquiles Built!" We were intrigued enough that we visited MartAnne's the very next night for dinner. That was on a Tuesday at around 6PM and it wasn't too busy the entire time we were there. House Horchata ($5.99) - This drink comes in a giant 32 oz Ball jar with tons of ice. Per the server it's made with milk and condensed milk, no rice milk at all. It's rich, thick, creamy, sweet, filled with earthy notes of vanilla and cinnamon. There's so much spice included that at some points, there's almost a gritty feeling while drinking. It's perfect for a hot day after hiking. Buckwheat Pancake ala carte ($4.99) - Buckwheat pancakes are something we've never seen before on a diner menu in the past. It seems to be pretty common around Arizona, so we had to give it a try before leaving Flagstaff. This one's pretty big, almost plate sized. It's really moist, fluffy, bouncy, and light with a slight sweetness and a certain earthy flavor. It's moist enough that it sticks to the ceramic plate it's served on. The pancake is somewhat crumbly due to the low gluten content of buckwheat, although I believe they use a mix of buckwheat and wheat flour to give some more stability. It's bluish grey in color with black specks of ground buckwheat throughout. It's dusted with powdered sugar, but it's not a ton, making the pancake not really sweet at all. The pancake comes with a small cup of their cinnamon honey butter. It's not mixed that well, leaving it mostly unhomogenized with streaks of honey and spice through the softened salted butter. Tamale ala carte ($4.99) - MartAnne's offers two types of tamales - the first a red chile beef, and the second a green corn and cheese. We went with the latter, which is a homemade tamale with a somewhat looser, coarsely ground masa shell surrounding an interior of yellow sweet corn kernels, a bouncy and somewhat spongy block of Oaxaca cheese, and a fragrant green chile. There's a slight sweetness throughout and the tamale overall is easy to eat. Chilaquiles, Xmas, Fratelli ($17.99) - This is a monster sized plate of a mishmash of ingredients. There are three things as essentially a base layer. Firstly some Mexican rice that's tender, moist, and fluffy, totally unlike the more common dry and and compact version. My guess is that they skip the initial frying step that helps keeps the starch together. It's quite fragrant and has gives a bit of heat. On top of the rice is a layer of hash browns. The potatoes are tender on the interior, griddled on one side to give a delightful crunch, although there's some acridity that develops. Another third of the plate is covered with chili beans - tender pinto beans that are well salted and seasoned. Then there's the eggs stuffed in between layers of corn tortilla chips, smothered with sauce. I went with the Christmas combination of red and green sauce, followed up by the Fratelli-style pork green chile. The green sauce is fragrant and vegetal, while the red sauce is more smoky. The pork, which is cut into chunks, on top is a bit tough and dry but there's more than enough sauce to make up for that slight demerit. Finally, there's a small mound of I believe jalapeno peppers, cut into small neon-green colored pieces. Some pieces are spicy, some are mild, all have a vegetal pepper taste. I found the food at MartAnne's to be pretty good. It definitely hits the spot after hiking all around the area for most of the day. Bathrooms - Two individual rooms, one for men, one for women. Note: MartAnne's charges a 3.5% credit card fee. This is labeled on the menu.

The only problem I have with it is that on a recent trip through town I made a point of stopping here with my dog, both their yelp listing and Apple maps listing have them down as dog friendly. I was turned away at the door because they do not allow dogs.
