Food was amazing. We opted for the Prime selections so that we can order seafood with our AYCE experience. Wish I had a chance to take photos but our hunger took over and we just chowed down. Service was fast and the staff were attentive. You also have the option to order from the screen on the table and the wait time for your order to arrive is super quick. Went here on a Tuesday and was surprised the tables were almost all filled up. Made the reservation via Yelp and when we got there, we were seated right away. This restaurant is where the old IHOP restaurant used to be, by the 24 Hour Fitness gym. We were a little ashamed we're pigging out while the patrons of the gym were burning calories Lots of parking and the place is clean. A solid, decent option but not overly memorable. We came in after a Little League game and appreciated that there was no wait and the service was friendly. We did the regular AYCE. Everything was fine and they do a good job, though nothing really stood out. Even the Hot Cheetos corn cheese (a unique touch!) was just okay. After driving out to Rancho San Diego to see a movie with the family we decided that we were in the mood for Korean BBQ and lo and behold there is now one in this area. We arrived and we're greeted with a fairly long line it did take about 40 minutes for us to get seated but everyone was very nice and I'm glad we waited. We were seated we ordered our drinks and started right into the menu. they have a very good selection of meat , a great selection of sauces , and a lot of other specialty items included in the cost like Korean Fried Chicken , dumplings and even calamari. AYCE Kbbq in a not so crowded area. Plenty of parking and a large clean restaurant. The tables were large but the grills were small for a group of six and only one in the center so it was a bit difficult for everyone to reach. Not a lot of meat fit on the grill at once so you end up having a lot of waiting time. It would be good for group of 2-4. Their meat was fresh and had a large variety even for their regular menu ($34.95) compared to the prime ($43.95). Kids (age 5-10) prices are $14.95 (regular) and $19.95 (prime). We got the regular as it had everything we normally eat like the pork belly and the short ribs. Their side menu was pretty good too which had all the usual wraps and sides. They give you this large daikon radish on a small plate and that is not to eat but to us to clean the grill. Don't wait too long to use it as it won't take off hard burnt sauces. So use it quickly to clean the grill after cooking marinated meats and just ask for a grill change if too burnt. We were looking forward to their soft serve ice cream but their machine was broken so they didn't have any. Check with them first before you promise your children some soft serve! Very enjoyable experience! We went for a lunch date and many other couples or families were there too. The wait was still less than 5 minutes. Pricing is simple. It's one price per person depending on your choice of basic or premium menu. Basic is great! Lots of items to pick. They give you sample appetizers, a salad and three sauces to start. You can choose 4 meats at a time and it was a full plate of each. My husband started off cooking the meat but as he ate and I wanted more then I started to cook as well. There is a two hour limit but for two people we didn't reach it. We couldn't order more than our initial order. If you want more you can order on screen or in person. They made things really user friendly. The restaurant is clean, noise level surprisingly lower than I'd expect and service was really good. I loved the ice cream cone at the end. The best meat quality so far! My husband and I love KBBQ and typically go all the way out to Convoy for the better quality and to satisfy our craving but this place really did exceed our expectations when it came to the food and the best part is that we live only 5min away. TIP : get on the waitlist ahead of time. And apparently you dont even have to be there to be ahead of those already present and waiting. Kind of a flaw in the way they seat but now that we know , we will be doing the same. Their premium menu is $43 and includes the seafood options as well as other upgraded meats like ribeye steak. Their sides are all so good but for me their pickeled veggies and radish sheets were the winners! We enjoyed the food alot and can say that the hour wait was worth it. read more

KKB GEM IN EAST COUNTY Finally! A decent kbbq place in the east county area. Address is La Mesa but we consider this Rancho San Diego. What I love most is that - because it's fairly new and the location, there was no wait. Even on their yelp page, it shows at their peak, a 30-min wait but that's nothing compared to the popular kbbq places in Kearny Mesa. We were seated right away on a holiday evening (Monday) at 6:30pm. Lots of tables, and we were happy they accommodated us at a table that had room for our stroller. Meats were easy to order through a server in the first round, then ongoing through an iPad. LOVE that they offer half orders of the meats! This is one of the things we look for in a kbbq place so that we can try a lot of different meats without getting too full too quickly. We also love how many sides they offer! The hot Cheeto corn was definitely worth a try. And love that they offer a cheese steamed egg (as well as regular steamed egg). They have everything you would expect in their sides, as well as fried rice, Korean fried chicken, and ramen. Service was quickly and super friendly! Felt like all the servers wanted to be our friend with how they'd make unique comments to our family. Anything we asked for was provided quickly and with a smile. Meat quality is good, too. Our favorites here were the jjang steak, beef belly, and beef brisket. (Only disappointment was the pork belly which is easily one of my go-tos... theirs had a sweet taste to it for some reason.) My daughter loved that they offer banana milk as a drink. Our 6-year-old was about $15. Don't forget about the complimentary soft serve cones! A new Korean bbq place has opened close by my work and we decided to try it with co workers. We came here shortly after they opened at 1130am. We were the 3rd party inside so they had to prepare a double grill table since there was 7 of us. Their cost is 35$ per person but that includes drink and free ice cream! They have the standard meat selections but a few other things I haven't seen like hot Cheeto cheese corn and green onion salad. Their portions are nice and you can also order a half order which is nice. Staff was nice and welcoming. They are a little delayed with coming over after pushing the call server button is pushed on the tablet. This is an amazing new kbbq spot!! All the meats taste very high quality and the marinades are delicious. I do like they have a lot of side options including Korean fried chicken and speciality corn cheese!! They have a tablet on the table so you can re order whenever you're ready for more. I would say the seating is a little limited, sort of a smaller place because we did end up waiting an hour for a table but it was honestly worth it for the quality of food. My husband and I LOVED Jjang BBQ in La Mesa after our visit yesterday! Finally no need to drive all the way to convoy!! Everything we tried was seriously delicious, and the service was impressively fast. Ordering from the tablets made everything so easy and smooth -- no waiting around and more time to eat (which we clearly enjoy ). There's plenty of parking, which is always a huge plus, and I loved that you can join the waitlist directly through Yelp. The space is also so nicely spaced out and super clean no matter how busy it is! Our favorites were the classic bulgogi, Hawaiian steak, and the spicy brisket -- all perfectly seasoned and cooked. We may have gone a little overboard with the sides... okay, a lot overboard but zero regrets. The Hot Cheeto corn cheese made my Mexican little heart SO happy -- it was insanely good. I was excited to try this new KBBQ since it's so close to home. It's located in the Rancho San Diego Village shopping center where there's plenty of parking. It looked pretty busy for a week night, but we were seated quickly and the service was impeccable. You can order directly from the server, or using the digital menu at your table. I appreciated that the serving sizes weren't huge so you don't feel like you're filling up on one thing, and if you want more of any dish, it comes out within minutes. My favorite meats were the beef brisket and thinly slice pork belly. I thought the Jjang steak was just mid-quality. There are tons of sides included with the AYCE menu. I especially liked the glass noodles and bean sprouts. The hot cheeto cheese corn was fun to try, even though it stuck to the bottom of the plate. I had a good experience here. There was a wait because it was the grand opening weekend, but I was sat within 30 minutes. Tons of parking available in the lot. The staff was pretty quick and as soon as they take your order and you're able to have the rest of the experience ordering through an iPad and the food gets very quickly. I love now there's air vents in the grill so all the smoke gets sucked into the bottom of the table , instead of your face . My eyes didn't burn because it never got smokey. The only thing bad was the rice paper. It tasted stale, the rice paper didnt taste smooth and fresh. My favorite was the JJang Steak and Hawaiian Steak. I had never been to a Korean BBQ before, so when I saw Jjang Korean BBQ slowly being built in La Mesa, I was excited to try it once it opened. Today was finally the day, and the experience did not disappoint! Jjang offers two price levels. The regular option includes 37 different meat choices, and you can select four meats from that list, along with an impressive 67 sides and soups. They also offer a Prime option for $43.95, which features the same 37 items plus premium meats and shrimp selections. Since this was my first time trying Korean BBQ, I went with the regular option, which offered more than enough variety. My waitress was very kind, professional, and helpful. She even started me off by placing the meat on the grill for me, which made the experience feel more comfortable as a first-timer. I grilled the meats first, then paired them with sides like lettuce wraps, salad, cucumbers, glass noodles, and pickled cucumbers. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and delicious. By the time I finished the first round of meats and sides, I was already full! I cooked my chicken next but was only able to take a few bites because the portions were generous. Next time, I definitely plan to come with a group. Korean BBQ is meant to be enjoyed with others, and it helps to share the large amount of food. One thing to note: Korean BBQ restaurants, including Jjang, do not allow take-home boxes for uneaten food, even if you paid for it. It's just part of the dining style, but something I'll keep in mind for future visits since I don't have a big appetite. The ambiance inside was clean, modern, and inviting. The only downside was having to listen to a crying baby for most of the meal; something the parents should have been more considerate about. Still, that had nothing to do with the restaurant itself. Overall the food was good but not great. There were so things that I did like, and some things that I didn't like. What I liked: I really liked that there was space between tables so you're not sitting on top of other guests. Always a common issue with Korean bbq. The service was good! Very friendly and reactive to customer needs. There is a tablet at every table to enable self-service. You do need to pay for refills for soda, that was a bit disappointing. The portions were good, but the quality of the cuts was subpar in my opinion. Not a huge array of options for sides, but it gets the job done. What I didn't like: The grills looked old and not what you'd expect to see from a new restaurant. The sides were served cold. The kimchi dishes were not good. The rice paper was also served hard, it was not prepared. The overall quality of the meats weren't great. Very chewy and fatty cuts. Overall, I love that there is a new place in town, it was very busy, which is great, but we will likely not be returning considering the price point and the quality. read more

Located in the Smart and Final shopping center, is Jjang Korean BBQ. We tried them shortly after their opening, and overall it was a really great experience. The space is fairly big and they can accommodate large groups. The smells as you walk in are amazing with the sounds of sizzling meat all around you. You can tell they're still sorting out a few details, but the staff is incredibly friendly and the ordering process, both through the waitress and the table-side tablet, was smooth and convenient. For an all-you-can-eat joint, the quality of the meats and sides was excellent. We ordered several items from the premium menu, and the highlights were definitely the ribeye, thinly sliced brisket, and beef tongue. The sliced pork belly was solid too. Don't skip the veggies, they come with onions, zucchini, mushrooms, and pair that with ordering plenty of butter to grill up. Also recommend getting the tofu soup and tossing in some cooked meat for a great flavor change-up. The one downside, and the only reason this wasn't a 5-star visit, was the service handoff. It seems our original waitress went on break without turning the table over to another server, so we waited more than 30 minutes with no food arriving. Finally, I flagged down another waitress and she went above and beyond to get everything out to us, she absolutely saved the day. Also, the time to wait displaced on the check in tablet was way off. It displayed a 11-24 minute wait, but it took about an hour to be seated with about 7 parties in front of us. It appears that you can reserve through Yelp in advance, so highly recommend doing that. Despite that hiccup, Jjang has a ton of potential and the food quality alone makes it worth coming back. Excited to see how they continue to improve as they settle in! read more

This spot is great for kbbq! I frequent kbbq places and this was a first time at Jjang for my family and I. They provide an experience with a self serve tablet which I enjoy in this type of setting. We opted for the premium option on the menu and the ribeye has to be one of the best I've tried at a KBBQ. The Hot Cheetos cheese corn is also a unique menu item I enjoyed. Everything else pretty much tasted with typical KBBQ. I do wish the portions of the sides were bigger for sharing (rice paper,radish,garlic etc.). Now that's there's a kbbq spot close to home, I think I've already become a regular. The sides are a bit different from the other kbbq restaurants I've been to. Service can be slow depending on what time of the day that you go. Some of the staff are friendly and some are just meh. I think the only thing I didn't like the last time I went was the cut on the beef brisket was too thick. Other than that, there is plenty of parking, a large restroom, and the atmosphere was overall catching. The noise level is loud so it's a good spot to go with friends. read more

We live close by and we're so happy to see a Korean bbq place so close by. When we first came when they first opened was a little rough but I feel that's with every business. They learned and transitioned, their service has gotten so much better! I love the staff everyone is nice! Enjoy their food they offer this side (onion salad) that is so good with all the meat highly recommend. The establishment is nice! First, I really didn't have high hopes of a KBBQ in rancho area but I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant looks nice and had lots of space. The service was very fast. I really was beside myself with their table electronic menu you can place your order and the food comes out fast. The quality of the meat was superb. A lot of places would skimp on the slices by making them super thin however, Jjang did it right! You have to try the hawaiian steak. That was amazing! Probably the best meat I tried there. This isn't our first time going to Korean BBQ -- I consider myself a seasoned connoisseur. Most places leave me smelling like burnt meat, but I'm happy to report that I didn't smell like a charred oven! Jjang had excellent wait staff - everyone was super kind and helpful, from the moment we walked in to leaving! You start off by getting seated - we came in on a Sunday afternoon when it wasn't too packed (I noticed there's much longer wait times during weekend evenings - so I recommend coming afternoons if you don't wanna wait outside in the cold. As soon as you're seated, there's a salad, glass noodles, and sides. Your waiter/fess will activated the tablet for you to order. We went with the Regular menu which was more than enough to satisfy 2 people! We had fish cake, corn cheese, Korean fried chicken, steamed egg cheese (this portion was huge and I'll skip it next time to make more room for meat), pickled cabbage...these were just the sides we ordered! Everything was so good. As for meats, we had Hawaiian beef (loved this), thin beef belly teriyaki, pork belly, spicy pork belly, garlic chicken...we kept ordering the same things because it was so good! In between grilling, you'll use the giant radish to clean the hot plate. Super easy! Just be sure to watch your meats as they grill and flip them. Then dip in the sauce and enjoy. What a LET DOWN. So bummed we did not have a good experience as we live nearby and it felt like we waited forever for it to open. First fail: they have no reservations, no online check in, and no call ahead. You walk in at your own risk. Which we did, we knew there was going to be a wait. But when I put our name in there was 13 parties ahead of us. No where to sit and wait as it was packed. Employees running around frantic and stressed. We waited nearly 3 hours for the text that our table was ready. If it wasn't a somber night we would have left. But since we didn't eat yet we decided to give it a shot. The pricing is pretty cut and dry. Premium or not. We had 2 adults and a teen and opted for the better of the 2. I don't know where to start. Took forever to get drinks. We order apps on the iPad which never came. Ordered more drinks that never came. You don't have a set server so we kept trying to stop someone to help us. You pay for unlimited and now we know why, because no one comes by with more food or to offer additional ordering. The apps that we finally got were NOT good, so tiny and not shareable, and cold. We felt rushed and like they did not want us there. Over a $175 bill for 3 people and we left hungry. We will not be back and we don't see it lasting long if they don't seriously fix this - and even then, and the food wasn't worth it even if we didn't wait. Total letdown. read more

They text you when it's almost ready and then when your table is ready. Our server Monica was the best! She made me want to be her best friend :) Along with the other staff, everyone was so nice, attentive, polite and super fast! I've been hearing about a kbbq opening in East County since last year, and I'm glad it's finally open. Given how tough parking is in Convoy, this is a nice spot to have. We were seated promptly on a Tuesday night, although the restaurant did get busy during dinner rush. We were told that they're having their grand opening this Saturday. And while I understand that they just opened, I do want to point out some things that they could improve on: Upon seating, while the host was incredibly nice, we did wait for a bit before they even brought out the banchan and water. These are usually ready the moment you're seated in most kbbq places. The menu is very extensive and has some pretty good options. Price wise, it's not too bad. They take your order at the beginning, but you can use the tablet to order additional meats afterwards. Limit is 4 plates at a time. The banchan (side dishes)... are unfortunately awful. The mashed potato tasted old and sour, the kimchi definitely isn't high quality, but what surprised me is the cucumber side dish... it's so hard to get such simple side dish wrong but it had such a bitter aftertaste and barely any flavor. The corn cheese was pretty good, thankfully. Another thing I'd like to point out is how unorganized the staff is. We were waiting for our meats for a while. 3 of the servers did check on us, and we said that we're just waiting for our meats. One came out, the rest came out after we already finished grilling and eating the first plate, and only because I had to follow up again. It should not take more than 15 minutes for you guys to take out the meat, especially if it's only the first batch of orders. There are so many staff on the floor, there is no excuse. Please train your staff to pay attention and communicate with each other for a smoother service. Aside from the lackluster service that I hope will improve, the quality of the meat is pretty good and the amount they give for a full order is pretty generous. Just an advice, if you're unsure if you'll like the meat, order the half serving first. Overall, we did like the meat, which is what matters most in a korean bbq restaurant.
