Pub combo (tuna, salmon, ebi nigiri and California and dynamite roll) and one saba nigiri
    Thu P.

Went here while visiting North Van because it was the cheapest sushi within 10 minutes of the Shipyards! Really glad we visited too because the sushi and tempura we got was good! The prawn tempura was perfectly cooked, the prawns were soft and juicy, and the batter gave the perfect crunch. We got a bonus green bean in the mix too! Everything was great for my soft mouth. The California roll was delicious, and the dynamite roll was okay. It tasted a lot just like a California roll with a tempura in the middle.. I usually expect more--like cucumber at the very least. The house special roll was similar--tasted like a California roll with some extra toppings. The tuna and spicy mayo with yam crunch on top.. was Not good. We ended up just throwing it away. Felt so wasteful but it was inedible for us. The salmon oshi was really good! the rice was a little too dense for my preference but it was a good ratio between rice and salmon. If this spot was more expensive, I may rate it three stars, but the price is too good not to commend! Service was good. We were left alone most of the time, which I usually like. BUT I wish they filled my tea at least once.. Ambiance was nice, a small quaint restaurant!

Lunch Set A with Teriyaki Beef + California Roll

I am happy to write about this neighbourhood Japanese restaurant. This is not Miku but they make some serious sushi and probably the best sushi restaurant in North Vancouver. Their food is freshly prepared and really delicious. Service is always excellent! I typically have their lunch set as it is very good value. For only $14 the set comes with tempura, teriyaki beef or chicken, California Roll (add $1 if substitute dynamite roll), gyoza and miso soup. I tried their aburi sushi and they are just as good. There are a number of lunch sets to choose from that are under $18. They are offering a 10% discount when you order take out. Ask for their loyalty card and collect stamps, on your 6th visit you get a 20% discount Give it a try, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Totally sure will have a great success, another hidden Japanese gem in Lower Lonsdale. The decoration is trendy and cozy, the ambience is so relaxing. The menu has an outstanding and remarkable variety. We asked for sashimi, chicken teriyaki, miso soup , seaweed salad and deep fried squid, all extremely affordable and delicious!!! Presentation , I have to say all was also very artisticly presented. A place to put in our list of coming back again and again.

It's amazing here! You can really tell the amount of effort they put into the food, even just with the presentation. If you are coming here, I would recommend ordering a combo if you want to sample more things.

Prawn tempura, salmon oshi, yam avocado roll, tonkatsu curry

We got take out from here, and they had easy ordering online with a bonus 10% off. We got their sockeye salmon oshi, tonkatsu curry, prawn tempura, and yam avocado roll. Their oshi was alright but would have to say Miku/Minami/Green Leaf were better. Their jalapeño on top was also extremely spicy! The curry was delicious and the flavours really came through. The tonkatsu could have been better breaded but really no complaints. The prawn tempura was fried perfectly and very fresh. I did wish that there was more avocado in the yam avocado roll. However, all in all, a great meal!

Decently priced with a large selection of food items. This restaurant was very busy with take out orders on a Friday night when I dined in. Servers were busy with take out orders, sparse attention with dine in patrons. But wasn't too bad, the food was great. Enjoyed every item we ordered. I liked that they included salad with the baked garlic mussel appetizer. Another item worth calling out is the sukiyaki beef don, the sauce combined with the glass noodle and rice was very tasty.

I'd dine here more often but parking sometimes sucks in this area. No fault at all of the restaurant. In fact, once when I was here pre covid an extra friendly table shared their food with us and it was really good! Now we order their sushi bombs

My church friends and I come here for lunch or dinner often especially after church gathering. We enjoy the diversity of food options as well as the ambiance and pricing is decent too for the size of food being served. The service was efficient and staffs were friendly and accommodating to big groups coming in too as long as we made reservation in-advance by calling in.

Sit down service was great. Good distancing and clean. Staff all had masks. Miso soup was the best. Sushi and other dishes were all delicious.

We arrived at lunch on a drizzly long weekend. Service was a little slow. People must have opted for lunch instead of out good activities. Coming from Honolulu and having visited Japan, I can assure you that this place is excellent! We had no girl sockeye salmon, Ama evil, uni....yum. Perfect sushi rice!! We are coming back to try the ramen and more

This new place is awesome. Great menu selection with so many options to choose from. We've tried the JL poke bowl, shrimp popcorn roll with black rice, scat aburi role, lonsdale crossing roll, tako wasabi, sushi burrito and if we had room we would've ordered so much more. Everything was so unique and beautifully presented. Definitely become one of favorite go to sushi spots.

Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close. It was a beautifully choreographed dining experience, perfect for marking a special moment, and one I'd gladly return to for the next celebration.

This is a more theatrical style so expect louder music and a more theatrical experience (eg one of the servers played the flute for the guests celebrating birthdays). I prefer a more intimidate and interactive style of omakase where you can talk with the chefs. This lunch also felt a little fast in terms of progression of the meal. Some of the dishes were very tasty while others didn't wow us. With drinks, we were quite full despite some reviews saying portion is on the smaller size. Our total was around $500 with drinks for 2 people. A really good experience for omakase, especially if you are looking for a unique experience though not my favourite one I've tried.

Last weekend, I happened to be in the area with my parents, so we went here for lunch. I was overjoyed that the friendly service and high quality food was as good as I remembered from years ago. Adding to the joyful mood were all the festive touches. The restaurant was decked out with a Christmas tree, garlands, etc., and the staff -- including those I spotted through the kitchen window -- were wearing cute, Christmas-y headbands. Being here just felt really familiar and cozy. Momiji has some great, affordable combos and standalone dishes. There's also plenty of nice things to splurge on. I was in the latter mood, so ordered a piece each of the uni and tobiko izura (fish roe and quail's egg) nigiri, as well as a spider roll (soft shell crab tempura with crab meat, avocado, and cucumber). The uni was really plump; the creaminess and brininess mixed with the rice and nori made for the perfect bite. I enjoyed the tobiko izura too, even though it was a lot messier to eat. That piece was topped with so much tobiko! The egg yolk added richness, making the nigiri even more palatable. From a presentation standpoint, this one is absolutely stunning. Spider rolls have been hit and miss for me, but Momiji's is always a hit. The tempura is so light and crispy, and the pieces aren't tiny either! They do a good job balancing the ratios of the other fillings too. And the teriyaki sauce brushed on top is just the right amount -- not so thick that it overwhelms your palate, nor too faint that you wonder what the point of that component is. The sweet, umami-forward notes of the teriyaki elevate every other ingredient in this roll. Perfection! Note to self: I'll be back, and soon. Thank you Momiji!
