Shoutout to one of my favorite brunch places! SO good that even my friends would want to come here every time they visit LA! While a lot of my friends order their beef sandwich, I personally love their Chinese Chicken Salad, and PB&J. While it is agreeable that I am technically paying for overpriced salad and PB&J, theirs are just so worth it! The salad comes in a big metal bowl, and it contains a GENEROUS amount of chicken! Usually this can be shared between 2 people or a few people who are ordering family style who wants to try. And their PB&J is just, well, jam and nut butter but SO GOOD! The restaurant is a very interesting concept. You order the food from the counter, look for a table with the number you get, and they serve the food to you. Servers are very kind and they get you what you need fast. There are also cute shelves with some spreads product, which makes the restaurant look like a mini grocery store. One thing to be concerned with is the parking. They only have street parking and it can be quite challenging since they are located in west LA. read more

I've never felt so singled out at a restaurant. I came in with my service dog, who was calm and well-behaved. Two other customers came in with their dogs, and theirs were barking and even lunging at mine. Despite that, I was the only one targeted, I was told to take my dog outside in nearly 90-degree heat while the disruptive dogs were allowed to stay. Not only was I forced to take my calm service dog outside in 90° heat, but a security guard was then made to watch me while I ate. Targeting like this is harassment, not customer service. This added element of intimidation is deeply concerning and demonstrates a pattern of targeting and harassment. When I explained that my dog is a service animal, the staff member went even further and illegally asked me what my disability is. For the record, under the ADA, businesses can only ask two questions: if it's a service animal, and what tasks it is trained to perform. They cannot ask about someone's disability. This wasn't just inconsistent, it was discriminatory and humiliating. No one with a service dog should ever be treated this way, especially while other dogs causing actual disruptions were ignored. If you have pets, please do not bring them to this location. read more

I can't speak to the location or parking since I got it delivered but this sandwich was the perfect blend of meaty and juicy, with cheesy strands and toasted buttered bread with crunchy exterior and soft middle with the caramelized onions bringing the umami! Not a great sandwich if you're watching your caloric intake, but a must if you're looking for flavor and textual perfection! read more

Parking not bad today and no lines. Have not eaten here for many years... looking forward to that iconic CCS. Ample seating outside(but those flies! Something needs to be done) plus a few tables inside. Walk-up counter ordering and they bring your food to you, so please don't forget to tip. The deli salads and hot foods are in the back if you want to take a look. Bakery counter up front has all manner of pastries, cookies, croissants and those skinny baguettes- I could make a meal of one of those and a hunk of truffle brie oh my... So the CCS (Chinese Chicken Salad) was huge and delicious as ever. Its simple chicken, fried wonton strips, crispy rice noodles and almonds were on- point. Companions had a bfast burrito and a tuna melt. Both good but the TM is amazing! Different than your have had in the past guaranteed. If you are a TM fan you must try Joan's version. We weren't thrilled with the coffee drinks- Iced lavender latte and iced mocha. Little to no flavor- I wonder why? I chose a canned artisinal soda- honestly just get a Peligrino! I really like Joan's on 3rd for a bite if you are in the area but I am not sure I would make a special trip for it again. read more

Such a cute place and the only reason I gave 4 stars is because the service recovery and the food was good but overall the customer experience was a solid 2-3 Star experience. The inside is so cute and allows you to really be tempted to explore and discover new gems. However the cashiers don't know the menu and have little to no knowledge about the overall products which was disappointing and left me to only google for reviews to educate myself The parking is as is, LA parking and hopefully you get lucky at a meter or street. No valet was offered. It's setup as a store/restaurant kind of vibe. You either order at the cashier for food they prepare or choose your in store goods and checkout at the cashier. read more

The 4 stars Joan's receives is right on the money, almost exclusively for the food. The breakfast burrito may not be earth shattering, but it's very good and portioned just right with flavorful salsa on the side. Beyond that, though, is the rest: a cold interior and exterior, "market" with overpriced snacks galore, and, once you get your food, you're pretty much on your own. In theory this is nice if you want to just relax and chat over your meal, but if you need anything, finding the right help is always confusing. I don't go here often, but often enough, that I've started to figure out who to ask about stuff, etc. If you visit for the first time, you'll be left a little confused. Of course, you might not need anything else on your visit and then think back to your food which is, again, very good! If you luck out on a parking spot on 3rd or in the neighborhood, it's worth a visit. read more

Inside is adorable and they have a great selection of various food items. However, the Chinese chicken salad is just not it. I wanted to love it so badly that i've even had it twice. It's terrible. The crisp wontons are fried too much and the dressing just over powers the salad. For it being a healthier option it just makes my stomach hurt and bloat like crazy so i'd skip the salad and just stick to the hot bar. read more

We headed here for lunch based on a friends recommendation. We ordered inside at the counter and found a table outside and were given a number. It is first come first serve seating so that was a bit nerve wrecking looking for a table because it was a busy Friday afternoon. I ordered a BLT and grabbed a bag of their homemade chips. Once seated outside, we got our meals delivered to us. My BLT was good! I loved how crispy the bacon was and lots of it. The homemade chips were delicious. A must! Most definitely the best Asian Chicken Salad I have ever had. My wife came across Joan's while looking for a lunch spot that had fresh options! We were both also craving a salad and my wife said the Asian Chicken Salads were the way to go and I am happy I listened to her. They were amazing. It is very cute location with indoor seating as well as a small patio that is in the shade and allows guests to enjoy a nice day outside while enjoying a great meal. Such a cute little shop with a large variety of fresh selections for breakfast or lunch. We got two sandwiches and shared between the 3 of us and still left very full and happy. The inside hosts a small bakery area as well as a grocery area so you can grab a bite and then pickup some locally sourced groceries to-go. Solid 4 stars. Very reasonably priced for delicious food. Service was quick and very nice. Ambiance is chill no frills. Came here for quick lunch one day and was impressed by how inexpensive this place is for what you get. I went to the hot food counter and ordered a piece of slow braised short rib and a side of chickpea curry. Both items were so flavorful and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend both of those. My friend got one of the chicken sandwiches and told me that was also very tasty. There were lots of table, you order and then take a number and sit down. The kitchen brings your food to you cafe style. Very nice for lunch! Highly recommend. read more

The short rib sandwich! Please order this!! It will not disappoint at all. I usually come to Joan's on Third for coffee, a quick meal or their baked goods. Everything I've ordered here has tasted great and every time it's such fast service! I'm impressed. My go to is the short rib sandwich- short rib with cheese and the pickled onions is a perfect combo. The sandwich is toasted and it's always served with a small side of pickles but they're not your average pickles. It's a must try! All the flavors just explode in your mouth. More recently I tried the fried chicken sandwich and this one is also a good pick. It comes with coleslaw and ciabatta bread- the bread is so fluffy. The sandwiches here are massive compared to your average cafe style sandwich. They also sell other goodies like pasta shells, pasta sauce, cheeses, wine, etc- all the Italian goods. I'm also interested in check out one of their pre-made meals. read more

Talk about old Hollywood! I mean the Hollywood back when people still bought DVDs and had daily power lunches without giving a hoot. That's when Joan's was in its prime. But it's still worth a trip every now and then if you ask me. My first thought when I walk into Joan's? I wish I knew someone worth giving a gift basket to. Because they sell gift baskets for all occasions. If you know someone who's sick or has accomplished something, and you have like two hundred extra dollars, Joan's has got you covered. I don't and I don't, but I wish I did. I was there for lunch. Joan's specialities are sandwich and salad classics, with a high-end deli counter featuring delish takes on stuff with mayonnaise in it. Personally my favorite is the egg salad sandwich. The mouthfeel makes my mouth squeal. Even though Joan's isn't quite as bustling as it used to be, there are still things I appreciate. Like their napkins are much higher quality than Chipotle's, and equally as free. Overall Joan's isn't going to blow your mind, but it's a solid spot to take coworkers, in-laws, even your attorney after they get you out of a jam (thanks, Richard!) read more

Solid lunch place! I've been here a handful of times or ordered DoorDash from them for a quick light lunch. Some of my favorites are their Chinese chicken salad, turkey BLT or the roast beef sandwich. All three of these are amazing. The Chinese chicken salad has a good mix of all the ingredients with plenty of crunch. I would recommend getting dressing on the side and only using half of it since it does get a bit acidic using all of it. Both the turkey BLT and roast beef sandwiches are amazing as well. I was on my way to my tried and true salad spot but my date requested we try Joan's. We ordered a blended mocha, iced dirty chai, cranberry goat salad with a side of chicken, and a turkey club. The drinks were A-1. The blended mocha was very good and tastes like a malt. The dirty chai was made with love, so we didn't send it back even though it came hot instead of iced as ordered. The salad was incredibly boring and they forgot the chicken. Not the nicest service when I asked for the side of meat I ordered. The meat was straight from fridge and bland. This review is strictly for their Chinese chicken salad. I was very excited to try out this place because many people state they have some of the best chicken salads in L.A. Food: Perhaps it was just an off day, yet the chicken breast was disappointingly dry and utterly lacking in taste. While the dressing was delightful, it simply couldn't compensate for the chicken's disappointing dryness and pronounced lack of flavor. The portion of the chicken was quite generous, but it was challenging to finish the order due to the blandness of the chicken. Service: The workers were friendly, and they moved efficiently. It took less than 10 minutes for my takeout order to be ready. Overall, Joan's on Third might still be a place worth visiting. They offer diverse menu choices, from breakfast treats to deli items. Though the Chinese chicken salad was not living up to my expectations, I might go back to try another item on the menu. read more

This sandwich lives rent free in my head. You know how everyone has that one sandwich they will never forget, this is it. The chicken, bacon, brie sandwich is the best I have ever had and I don't think it will ever be topped. I have dreams about this sandwich and have doordashed it on multiple occasions since I don't live very close to Joan's. Everything they have is great but nothing will top this sandwich, although their chocolate chip cookies come pretty close. If they ever take it off the menu I will personally beg Joan on my hands and knees to bring it back. This place seems to have it all. A mini market inside and a sit down restaurant. I always thought it was just a restaurant until I walked in and saw desserts, baked goods, hot bar, premade salads... Id be shocked if you weren't able to find something you like. We got a table right outside and I had half a turkey club and split a Cobb salad with my friend. The salad was fresh and crunchy and was my favorite. It was a traditional turkey club but I found it a little dry. I think I needed some relish or avocado to add to it. The service was so so. Dessert was a "s'mores" situation - a messy, glorious bowl of chocolate, meringue, graham cracker crunch and strawberries. Service was awesome - perfectly pacing the meal. My friend had a couple of cocktails which were gorgeous. And the room is lovely and light. I don't love the neighborhood and parking can be tough. I definitely would come early unless you're taking a taxi. Genuinely surprised how much I liked this meal. Everything was very well done and clearly made with care without seeming fussy or too precious. Highly recommend and would definitely come back. This is a place to take your out-of-town friends to.

About a month ago, one of the managers here Jason introduced me to these drinks so I bought the Purple Fruit beans and a pour over kit and started drinking it at home in the mornings since we both get up early. My wife tried it and she loved it. She asked me to get a few bags incase they run out so I did! I buy Verve coffee for my team and people in our building all the time. I enjoy buying good coffee for others as much as I enjoy drinking it myself. Their lattes and mochas are really good too. I also bought some beans for my mother in law so she can share it with her friends back home in Seoul and she said they loved it! My coffee game has been elevated and I loveeee it! Bonnie, thank you soo much for the thoughtful birthday message on the cup. She gave me the Wilder leftover on a shot cup and it was the first time I took a "shot" in 4 years. Our bill came out to over $100 for two people (2 dishes, 1 shared appetizer, no drinks besides water) for breakfast. Overall I'd give this place 3.5 stars, worth checking out, but probably not worth frequenting often. Ambiance is an 8.5/10, the food was about a 7/10, the value was a 6/10, and the service was a 5/10. The food was solid, the ambiance was nice, the value is average to below average, and the service could use a little work. That being said, it's a nice place worth checking out, just make sure you ask to have that 4% charge removed from your bill, and tip accordingly.

Joan's is a sure thing. It's quick and easy and always satisfying. This place has become an LA landmark in its own right as it appeals to all types of peeps. There's something for the health conscious and foodie alike. The dishes are intricately prepared to seduce every palate. Farro salad with feta and squash is healthy and filling and the tuna salad isn't too mayo'd out. The Brussels sprouts salad couldn't get any better and doesn't taste like its been drenched in oil like most places. I love to do the tri salad option which allows me to choose three salads from the sides bar and top them over field greens with vinaigrette so I can get a variety of sides at once. They also have an iced green tea that is never too watered down and although it isn't sweetened it sure tastes like it! The whole place is covered from floor to ceiling with shelves of imported products and they have a frozen section so you can always be prepared to have a last minute friend over. The sweets and treats here are also incredible and my favorite ever are the Mexican Wedding cookies (almond cookies with powdered sugar) but you need to order them in advance which is so worth it. I continue to have the most inexplicably bad experiences with picking up my Uber Eats take out orders. Today, I ordered a Chinese chicken salad and cookie. I walk in and head to the left. The guy is helping out some other frustrated lady picking up because they forgot her drink. He tells me to wait and goes away. At this point, an Uber Eats driver parks outside, walks in, and simply picks up a bag off the table without speaking to any staff or anyone. In and out - good for him. Meanwhile, my app says my food has been ready for about 10 minutes but its not on their table. So I ask a staff and he acknowledges, then disappears in the back for 5 minutes. Im walking around the restaurant, making sure my illegally parked car doesn't get towed, and now late for work at the hospital. So I see the pre-made Chinese chicken salads and I just pick it up. And then I tell the cashier I also bought a cookie and she gives me a cookie. I leave. So the moral of the story is don't order takeout from Joan's. Either order delivery so someone else can deal with their disorganized shit, or go into the restaurant and order at the counter. read more

This is one of those little bit of everything places. A food lovers heaven. The layout is a little confusing for a first time visitor but anyone behind the counter is very nice and willing to guide you. There are 2 cashiers where you order and they give you a number and bring you your food. There is limited indoor seating and a fair amount of outdoor seating. There is a sandwich section ( their short rib melt was featured in Bon Appetit ) many deli case sides ( we had the roasted vegetables and a couscous salad) a salad section (we didn't order one but I saw at least 8 people eating the Chinese Chicken) a cold cut and cheese section ( we got salami, prosciutto and an assortment of cheeses cut to order and a delicious potato/onion focaccia they warm and slice. My intention was to head to the coffee / latte and dessert section after our meal but I was too stuffed! I'm already plotting what to get next time. Although we often hang out in the area, we didn't find out about this place until we saw it on some TV show. The closest thing I can compare it to is Dean & Deluca in Lower Manhattan. We primarily had gone there for their cupcakes (which were good, but not the best we ever had). They have a very wide assortment of European groceries, and their other pastries (which are mostly French) were outstanding. We had their French Toast, which was done to perfection, and I had a couple of soft boiled eggs, toast and bacon, which were equally good (albeit a bit pricey). Their selection of cheeses were equally as good. To be fair, most of the items they carry, one could also get at the Cheesestore in Beverly Hills or even at Bristol Farms, which is where we usually go for such things, but as decoration, they added a nice touch. Yay I finally tried Joan's! I've been wanting to try the food here for months but just hadn't gotten around to it. We had a work meeting so my co-worker suggested Joan's since she loves the food there. After perusing Yelp I saw that the short rib sandwich seemed to be one of the front runners so that's what I got. Honestly, I don't like onions, every once in a great while I like sauteed onions. I usually order my sandwich sans onions but I wanted to try the sandwich as prepared, so I left them in. After one bite I took them out- but at least I tried first! Aside from the onions the sandwich was really good. The meat was tender and nicely seasoned, the cheese and bread were what really got me though. Golden and buttery and just crisp enough. It was super duper greasy which was the other thing I didn't really like. But still good and I would probably order it again. Next time I want to try one of their grilled cheese versions. I've been going to Joan's on Third for 22 years. I have remained loyal even as she raised her prices to astronomical prices. I could rationalize paying these prices as long as the quality of food remained good. I even put up with the less-than-friendly people taking orders at the counter. But today, I reached my limit! Loving her turkey meatloaf sandwich, I was willing to pay $18. The menu shows it serves 2-4 people. Really? It's 1-1/2 slices of turkey with lettuce and tomato. 2-4 lilliputians, perhaps. But the motivating reason for this review? The BREAD WAS STALE!! An $18 sandwich on stale bread? Not acceptable. When I was directed to "someone to speak with" I was met with a deer in the headlight stare; clueless as to what to do when a customer complains and therefore, she did NOTHING. So, Joan, my loyalty and dollar only goes so far and it will be going far from you to another restaurant more worthy. read more

I'm glad I did manage to have the time to actually go to this restaurant because the food there really was excellent. Los Angeles is really good for having tons of restaurants that serve excellent food and this restaurant is not an exception. It was nice to see that they had plenty of options, I did end up choosing the Short Rib Sandwich and it was freaking gorgeous it was absolutely delicious and if I do get the opportunity to go this restaurant again I will definitely be getting the same sandwich, I know I should probably try something new but it was really good and I don't think I've ever a sandwich quite like it. I think the only complaint that I can think of is the fact that there was a slight shortage in seating but that can't always be helped when they are large amounts of people wanting to go there. read more

Wish this was the old Joan's on Third. I miss it when is was just one little store. This place is too big and you get lost, or shall I say, get ignored. So many workers and not one would give us the time of day. I do miss the "Hello" at the door you used to get years ago at the old place. Now to the food. The short Rib Sand used to be good. I guess as you get to big your quality suffers. We tried all of the "must haves" as we were a large group. The consensus of our party was the same, "Meh" and a big "Meh" at that. It's a shame to see a place like this loose it's charm and quality. All good things must come to an end I guess. Our group decided that we would not repeat our experience and choose a different spot next time. I will hang on to the good old days and the memories of what Joan's used to be. :( read more

Not impressed AT ALL. This place is soooo hyped up, i don't get why everyone keeps raving about it. Overpriced stale, tasteless food. Had the Short rib sandwich. It was lacking meat for the price and the Short rib meat was bland. The staff was rude and rushing. Didn't seem like a the friendly, family owned place that I have heard from friends. Waited almost 30 min for food delivered on cheap picnic paper plates. After eating we wanted coffee. Had to get in another line and waited an additional 15min. for a coffee that tasted like water. No flavor, No love. For the same amount of money I could get a great pour over from Handsome or Intelligentsia!! Huge disappointment. Will not be going back and cannot recommend to anyone. Joan's has a huge outdoor patio area which is really nice and a big marketplace inside which has a lot of interesting food (which looks pretty good actually). The ordering/seating system is a little awkward though. you order at the register, like at a fast food place, and get a number. then you find your own seat (which you may end up waiting quite a while for) and they bring you your food. I went for brunch and got the New York breakfast sandwich, a side of fruit, and the orange juice. The fruit was good but not much of it for $4. The orange juice was great. The sandwich was basically a grilled cheese sandwich with a patty of scrambled egg and bacon bits on it. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't very good either - I'd skip it. read more

This is the gourmet eater heaven for the rest of us who don't have the private chefs and deep deep pockets. the food is superb. If you are taking it to go, some heating and minimal preparation might be necessary like pouring the sauce or presentation on your plate. if you are eating there - the seating is not the best since it's scarce and hard to find and seats are tight, but it gives you that european or New York feel. their salads and sandwiches are exceptionally tasty, the deserts are awsome. You can find all the gourmet items you see in europe and exceptional fine quality restaurants or you have heard the name from people who travel. if you are have a eye for the celebrity crowd you will always run into some one there. read more

An incredible marketplace vibe buzzing with people and bustling staff - not unlike Eataly in NYC Flatiron. Didn't expect anything like it coming to LA. They've got great selection (cheeses, sandwiches, salads, soup, etc) and you can seat yourself after ordering. The food is terrific albeit expensive - par for the course in the area so I would not fault them given the ambience. We got the short rib, turkey club, and southwest salad - all were fresh and what you expect for high-end gourmet lunch/brunch fare. The hustle bustle and density of people can be a bit overwhelming but the staff move things along and it all seems to work. You know there's a strong reason why you would mostly catch a sight of a long line reaching out the front door of this restaurant. Well seriously, it's one of the best restaurants that I have ever been to. So very professional while serving you and so very warm at the same time! Have been visiting this place for over 6 months now and trust me, each time I hang my hat here - the experience just gets better. If you have lucky stars enough in your bucket to find a meter, just jump on it. This place stays busy but has a got a string of happy reasons for true foodies. My personal favorite is Joan's Cupcakes and the short rib sandwich from the salty pool. Ah, this one is ace without a doubt. Go here for sure! Cheers! read more

Food is great, But they cheat on credit cards always check your credit card with your receipt. They charged my credit card double. The receipt that I signed was $44.26 but they charged me $88.26 and it was do shocking fir me that it was normal for them and they were so rude to me not even say sorry!!!!! when I called them about their mistake they didn't even ask me who was the person who served you no question and said we ll return it to your card but nothing happened yet after a week, lets see hopefully they return it by the end of this week that's what they said. Thats a shame for this kinds successful restaurant with that Volume of customers. If I go there again I ll pay them cash no more card. read more

This is first time writing a review on yelp.. I have to say I love the food here especially the chicken sandwich and the organic hot coffee. I got a recommendation from my friends who live close by on 3rd street district. I went there on Saturday lunch with a couple friends ..It was so busy and packed. I understand its weekend , most of the fine diners are pretty full. The staff was very nice and friendly but the only one thing was THE FOOD came out 30 minutes later after ordering, I had no idea what going on in the kitchen.. I was really starving ... The only things you'll probably wish Joan's had more of are parking and tables. They excel in everything from ready-to-go entrees, delectable sandwiches to rich pastries and desserts (try the peanut butter chocolate cupcake). Also visit their expansive cheese and charioteer counter and browse their aisles of specialty gourmet foods. You're bound to find a delicious gem you'll want to take home. Casual Cali vibes in terms of the ambiance. There's free city parking in a garage across the street for 2 hours before 5pm which works well since they're only open during the daytime.
