My cousin was in town from Seattle, and we were looking for a good breakfast spot--this place popped up on Yelp with great reviews, and it absolutely lived up to them. My cousin ordered the breakfast burrito, which he raved about. It was big, filled with fresh, flavorful ingredients, and super satisfying. I had the French toast, and it was yummy! Perfectly cooked, rich, and comforting. The indoor space is cozy and cute, with a relaxed café-style vibe that makes you want to linger over coffee. Speaking of which, we both had coffees, and they were great, too. The service was excellent, friendly and efficient. The prices were reasonable, especially considering the quality and the prime location. Overall, this was such a nice, memorable stop, and I would highly recommend it to anyone in the area. Expensive, but fast and easy place to grab decent food including something that will make almost everyone happy even with picky eaters and some actual fresh food. We stayed around the corner for 5 days and Joan's was the closest thing to a respite from eating out all the time that we got. I really enjoyed the butter lettuce salad with cranberries and feta to get some fresh greens in my diet. You can add chicken if you want protein. My wife liked the Asian chicken salad, which was a bit less healthy with wonton chips and a sweet sauce on the chicken, but super tasty. Both salads were huge and came served in a medium-sized mixing bowl. That's good because with minimal toppings, you need them to be big. My son loved having a burger (even for lunch) and my daughter ate pancakes and fresh fruit, so everyone could actually eat. The places I have had a smash burger at before have never been what I think is good. This place is my favorite so far. There is a perfect balance of beef patty, bun, and sauce. They didn't skimp on the patty. I have actually had one somewhere else before where the patty was so smashed that there was barely any beef flavor present. The fries here are crispy how I love it. The pickles were delicious as well. They seemed a bit sweet. The bag of homemade chips are bomb. The slice of cheesecake.... Heaven. It is EXACTLY how I love my cheesecake! Very very few customers here as I came in exactly at open. You Order at the counter, take a number and sit wherever. I ordered SOFT scrambled eggs and toast added hash browns . I emphasized 2 times SOFT SCRAMBLE and got kind of a blank look. Oh boy. Am I psychic or what? I knew how this would turn out. Why is a soft scramble such an unusual order? Crazy how often it's a failure. Many places, it doesn't blow the tops of their heads clean off with confusion. Here, basically it was ignored. It's like if you ordered over easy and got an egg with the yolk fully cooked. My order was 24 dollars with a tip. Definitely, I'm a bit persnickety about eggs. Well very persnickety, tbf. This time, everyone else decided how my eggs would be cooked. Because of the system- order at the counter, no real server- no opportunity to get what I ordered- I just ate them. I've never felt so singled out at a restaurant. I came in with my service dog, who was calm and well-behaved. Two other customers came in with their dogs, and theirs were barking and even lunging at mine. Despite that, I was the only one targeted, I was told to take my dog outside in nearly 90-degree heat while the disruptive dogs were allowed to stay. Not only was I forced to take my calm service dog outside in 90° heat, but a security guard was then made to watch me while I ate. Targeting like this is harassment, not customer service. This added element of intimidation is deeply concerning and demonstrates a pattern of targeting and harassment. When I explained that my dog is a service animal, the staff member went even further and illegally asked me what my disability is. For the record, under the ADA, businesses can only ask two questions: if it's a service animal, and what tasks it is trained to perform. They cannot ask about someone's disability. This wasn't just inconsistent, it was discriminatory and humiliating. No one with a service dog should ever be treated this way, especially while other dogs causing actual disruptions were ignored. If you have pets, please do not bring them to this location. read more

Shoutout to one of my favorite brunch places! SO good that even my friends would want to come here every time they visit LA! While a lot of my friends order their beef sandwich, I personally love their Chinese Chicken Salad, and PB&J. While it is agreeable that I am technically paying for overpriced salad and PB&J, theirs are just so worth it! The salad comes in a big metal bowl, and it contains a GENEROUS amount of chicken! Usually this can be shared between 2 people or a few people who are ordering family style who wants to try. And their PB&J is just, well, jam and nut butter but SO GOOD! The restaurant is a very interesting concept. You order the food from the counter, look for a table with the number you get, and they serve the food to you. Servers are very kind and they get you what you need fast. There are also cute shelves with some spreads product, which makes the restaurant look like a mini grocery store. The breakfast burrito may not be earth shattering, but it's very good and portioned just right with flavorful salsa on the side. Beyond that, though, is the rest: a cold interior and exterior, "market" with overpriced snacks galore, and, once you get your food, you're pretty much on your own. In theory this is nice if you want to just relax and chat over your meal, but if you need anything, finding the right help is always confusing. I don't go here often, but often enough, that I've started to figure out who to ask about stuff, etc. If you visit for the first time, you'll be left a little confused. Of course, you might not need anything else on your visit and then think back to your food which is, again, very good!
