I chose Kings Road Café because of its great reviews and because, on an already incredibly difficult morning, I was desperate for a positive start to my day. Unfortunately, my experience left me feeling embarrassed, ignored, and emotionally deflated. I had just taken my grandmother to be evaluated after a double lung transplant, and I had her 8-pound service dog, Buddy, with me. He was wearing his service vest, and I had his paperwork with me. We sat outside at a sidewalk table. While getting situated, Buddy unexpectedly peed on the sidewalk near our table. I immediately felt responsible for cleaning it up and went inside to ask for a cup of water so I could respectfully clean the area. While inside, I noticed what appeared to be the owner with his arms in the air, gesturing toward Buddy. When I came back outside, he told me that the staff would handle the mess. I nevertheless finished cleaning the area myself because I didn't feel that servers should have to take care of something that was my responsibility. I then sat at my table for about 10 minutes without being acknowledged or even given a menu. A gentleman came and sat at the table next to me. He was promptly given a menu. A server came over, took his order, and walked away while I was still sitting there without a menu. Eventually, I took a menu from a nearby dirty table myself. The gentleman next to me received his food, and I still hadn't been approached. At one point, I asked if I could order. I continued waiting. I sat there until the gentleman next to me was nearly finished with his meal before I finally realized that, in my experience, I was being deliberately ignored and that no one intended to serve me. What was most upsetting was that there was no communication--no explanation, no acknowledgment, and no indication of why I was being left sitting there. After about 30 minutes, I left. I understand that restaurants can be busy, and I understand that unexpected situations happen. If there was a problem with Buddy being there, the incident, or anything else about my presence, I would have preferred someone simply speak to me. I would have listened and respected whatever was communicated to me. What was deeply upsetting was being left at a table and apparently being denied service without anyone having the courtesy to tell me why. Restaurants, to me, are supposed to be places where people can share good food, nourish themselves, and experience some sense of community and welcome. On this particular morning, I came in hoping for exactly that. Instead, I left feeling gross, withdrawn, embarrassed, and, honestly, kicked while I was already down. I don't expect special treatment. I do expect basic courtesy and communication. Whatever the reason for what happened that morning, I believe I deserved at least enough respect to be told directly. read more

Cute place on Beverly that I've been meaning to go to. The food quality is fantastic, but the service is one of the worst I've experienced. We felt like an absolute burden. Didn't see a single staff member even smile or as much as say hello. No one came to refill the water or ask if we needed anything or even ask how the food was. One of us had pancakes and it came with nothing. Finally wave someone down and asked for butter and syrup. Few minutes later later someone drops off syrup and runs, but no butter. Had to wait again to flag someone else and ask for butter. Some frozen butter packs were delivered for now our old pancakes. Great food, terrible service. No one wanted to be bothered. I ordered the spinach and goat cheese omelette. There was definitely plenty of food; I ended up taking half of my portion home. The plate was $20. I just wasn't blown away by the flavor of the food. It was a really good classic omelette, but I didn't think it was amazing by any means. Next time I'd be curious to try one of their bakery items instead. This restaurant looked like a great spot for a breakfast since they have lots of outdoor seating by the road which reminded me of European cafes. Firstly, for the drink I got an iced mocha latte. It was pretty good and married the espresso and chocolate flavors well. For my main dish, I ordered eggs benedict and it was decent. The presentation of it was good and it was unique since they used a croissant bun for the eggs benedict. However, the croissant didn't seem very fresh and neither were the potatoes, the textures just seemed a bit off. The overall dish was still enjoyable though. The eggs were cooked well and were jammy and the canadian bacon was solid. The service here was solid as well. For parking, there's street parking and metered parking nearby. Overall, a decent experience here. I would maybe come back if someone invited me or if it was convenient, but I would still opt for other breakfast/brunch places in the neighborhood. read more

We rented an Airbnb one block from this lovely cafe so we walked to it. Super convenient and what a find! The staff were all friendly and attentive. The coffee drinks and food arrived in a timely manner. Our table had a variety of items from their menu. The omelet was excellent. The chorizo burrito was very good. For $20-30 a plate, this was just a joke. I added an extra egg after seeing how small the portions were, and it still looked pathetic. Even the side salad had no effort put into it. The waitress suggested the oven roasted chicken panini so that's what I got. They were also very accommodating to my friend who was vegetarian by providing her with veggie tacos. The Panini was a safe choice not good or bad but satisfying. They gave decent size portions so the side salad was almost like a whole ceaser. My other friend ordered the same meal as me but his chicken was a little undercooked which made it similar rubbery. This place used to be a staple for my boyfriend so I've been a couple times and I've never been impressed. I've ordered several different things from the menu and I'm always left underwhelmed and wishing I ordered something else or gone somewhere else. During our most recent visit I ordered the steak tacos which comes with a Cesar salad. The tacos are quite large and come with a nice avocado "salsa" which is more like a guacamole spread. The Cesar salad is warm and soggy with croutons that are so garlicky, they completely overpower the flavors of the taco and leave a horrible after taste. That's coming from someone who loves garlic. The service is always great and everyone is super friendly. The location is a little corner spot on Beverly Blvd so it's easy to get to on weekend mornings and it's always packed around 11am so they must be doing something for everyone to keep returning. At around 10 am ish, the boyfriend and I got nearby parking (yes metered but where is parking free anymore). The helpful hostess got us seated right away. We were hungry so we didn't linger too long over the menu but there was a lot of good brunch/breakfast standards. The coffee (hot for him, iced oat milk latte for me) was tasty and strong. I went here on a Saturday morning around 10am and stayed for about an hour. It wasn't overly crowded at this time and my friend and I were able to find a seat outside to enjoy our meal! The people behind the counter were so kind and helpful, they made the place feel lively in the best way I really enjoyed the Chicken Sausage and Fontina omelet. The portion size was bigger than I expected and the toast + potatoes were a pleasant surprise as I didn't realize the omelet came with sides! The omelet was extremely filling and had a good ratio for all the ingredients - I never felt like there was too much of one ingredient. The potatoes were nicely cooked and deliciously seasoned, I didn't need to add any extra seasoning to them besides just a pinch more salt (I love my potatoes a little extra salty so just personal preference!). The toast was also so light and airy, a lovely bread pairing with the omelet for sure. I spent about $30 here (including tip!) for the omelet and a chai latte (not pictured). We got lucky with finding street parking since it was still pretty early in the morning but definitely keep in mind if you plan to visit here later in the day.
