I use to come here all the time with friends.. Then we heard they are doing a remodel so we decided to wait before we go back again. We drove by one day and seen the building was re done and looked great, but when we went inside they got rid of about 80 percent of their hot dog menu.. we never went there for barbecue. We always went for hotdogs this used to be a hotdog place and now it's a barbecue place big mistake. From a business standpoint you probably has better margins making unique hot dogs than ribs n tri tip.. will not be back.. read more

This was such a disappointment. We ordered two burgers, fries, and chili cheese tots. The burgers were fine. However, I found two hairs in mine. TWO. And not just on top. It was buried in there with the lettuce. That was pretty disgusting. I saw an employee with a dark beard come out of the kitchen, and it definitely looked like it belonged to him... I didn't complain to the staff because it was clearly an accident. If you eat here, I would just keep an eye out for hair in your food. The chili cheese tots were very good. I quite liked them. The crinkle cut fries were burnt. Another bummer since I love crinkle cut fries. I won't be coming back here. Better than average greasy eatery! I heard about this place from a yelp friend. Thank you, friend for the tip! My visit here was definitely a cheat day from what I normally eat. I tried their natural casing hot dog with just relish and ketchup and it was tasty! My husband had the LA Street Dog (yes, we're from Los Angeles!) which is mustard on a bacon wrapped hot dog w/mayo, grilled peppers, onions, and fried jalapeños. He says the LA Street Dog is better than the hot dog that he had in Chicagoland (Portillo's in the suburbs)! Pretty solid. The crinkle cut fries were crispy and tasty-just how I like 'em. I tried the Irish nachos which are tater tots w/melted cheese, bacon, sour cream, and green onions. Good stuff! I also tried the regular tater tots but, those were too greasy for me. I recently wrote about my experiences with frozen custard at two different places in Chicagoland and have been fascinated by frozen custard. So, the USDA says "that for a product to be marketed as frozen custard, it has to have at least 10 percent milkfat and 1.4 percent egg yolk solids." (wiki/frozen_custard) So that less than 2 percent egg acts as a binder and emulsifier to give it a super smooth texture and creaminess. Also ice cream and frozen yogurt has 40% air and frozen custard has 18-20% air. Anyway, I've had vanilla frozen custard at the last 3 places that offered it and Joe Schmoe's is very good! I like the vibe in the dining area. Classic rock songs were playing. There are multiple TVs on the wall for various sports. There are guitars and Johnny Cash memorabilia on the wall. It's been awhile since I've eaten here but always enjoyed the food and so did my family. My son has a serious peanut allergy so we are always extremely cautious when we eat out and since we've eaten here multiple times we weren't expecting anything different because we had made sure they didn't use any peanut products. So we went there last Friday as a family excited to try their new menu. As we were perusing the menu I was checking out the Nashville chicken because I love spicy food and there in small print under the description was "cooked in peanut oil". Well I was a little concerned so I asked the girl taking our order how long they've used peanut oil and she said since they opened. Now I know that's not true so I asked her how long she's worked there and she said a year. Then another server behind the counter said it's been more like 4 years. My wife suggested that they notify the manager to at least put a sign to alert people that have peanut allergies that they use peanut oil but the server outright dismissed us saying that people who eat there know they use peanut oil. No matter how we tried to stress that this is extremely dangerous and people could die as a result, nevertheless she wouldn't budge saying that the small print on the menu was enough. So we left, never to set foot in Joe's again since cross contamination is a real thing. Apparently they cook the chicken and onion rings in peanut oil and the french fries in canola oil. Edit: I want to clarify that this has nothing to do with the food or service, the food is great, always loved it, especially the concrete for dessert. This is solely about the addition of peanut oil and the lack of visible signage and the dismissive server. This server really needs more training. read more

Right after paying for it I doubled checked with the cashier that I ordered it without bleu cheese. And then after getting my drink I triple checked one more time because I noticed my receipt didn't show any modification on it and the cashier reassures me that it won't have bleu cheese. I received my food about 10 minutes later with bleu cheese on the salad.. Unfortunately because I believed they made my order correct, because I triple checked with them, I didn't double check it till I got home. The place looks great inside counter area very clean but the dining area is well its pardon my turn bad A@@ TV sets going first part like back from the 70s to 80s but the back dining area totally awesome with graphics and comfortable. I'm doing a to go so I will hook the food up in a minute. Well boxed, the smell so intense I opened the box and the food look amazing. The nacho fries look tasty with fresh cut fries. My wife loves them. I got chili cheese fries. I love how they give you options fresh fries crinkle or tater tots. Choice of how you want your onions as well as other options. The Pastrami was so so good. I has it on sourdough. Now some people expect a over packed full or meat. Well to me it's the taste and quality of the pastrami. This sandwich was so so good flavor. I almost feel bad about writing this review because I guess I never wrote a positive one over the past few years; I've visited Joe Schmoe's regularly for what I always considered "Disney quality" corn dogs (IYKYK) and amazing milkshakes. However, my most recent experience was so egregiously bad that it wiped out years of good ones. Here we go: Last Thursday I visited with my family and my out-of-town friends who always insist on a Joe Schmoe's run when they visit. For the first time, the corn dogs were nasty...burninated shriveled little husks of their usually resplendent selves. My kid and I ate ours but our out-of-town guest returned hers....and got another blackened corn dog. As we were finishing our meal, my spouse pointed to the trash can adjacent to the patio gate. The gate swings freely above the patio pavement, and in had wandered a little rodent...a really big mouse? A teenaged rat? Clearly the gate's bottom is too high to keep pests out of Joe Schmoe's eating area. As pets, I'm a huge rodent fan. In restaurants, not so much. Mickey made himself comfortable next to the bin, munching on a bit of dropped lettuce. We figured that we should alert the staff so that they could shoo him out. We waved down one staff member who waved down two more. They pointed, laughed, and snapped a couple photos, and then one of the cooks CRUSHED THE RODENT WITH HIS FOOT in full view of everyone on the patio. It took two stomps to end Mickey's little rodent life. Chef Murderpants retreated to the kitchen and retrieved a plastic glove, which he donned so he could pick Mickey up and TOSS HIM IN THE DINING AREA GARBAGE CAN. Then, easy as you please, he walked with his rodent-crushing kicks back into the kitchen to keep churning out burnt corn dogs. And just like that, Joe Schmoe's made it to our "never again" list. I'm leaving this review in hopes that the owner might see it and reach out for the story. I hear y'all own the Pasty Kitchen now and maybe also a pie restaurant? Tried going here for the first time and was unimpressed with the food, but the service was outstanding. They have a nice dining area and lots to TV's for viewing sports games inside. I tried the double cheeseburger and it was just so so with a big glob of lettuce and not shredded as I prefer, and kind of bland. Chicken strips were very good and the cob salad was very tasty and good but I ordered and paid for extra avocado and I got 4 small slices so I assume a regular order is 2 slices of avocado? Ordered a cookie dough concrete as a snack. Service was great-swift and friendly. It's an interesting restaurant--looked like an old Wienerschnitzel building attached to a sit down restaurant section. The concrete itself was good, not remarkable. There was a little bit of soft gritty-ness to it that stopped it from being great. Decent serving for the price but not necessarily a good value. It used to be my favorite thing ever, but they got rid of it :-( Now I just get the grilled chicken burger, and it's still as good! Their portions are so generous, and the vibes are immaculate. The sweetness of the vanilla icecream added a nice contrast to the spice and cinnamon of the apple pie. Really enjoyed the flavor of the pie with the crumble for additional texture. Would recommend for apple pie lovers! Boysenberry Custard/Sundae (3/5): Joe's vanilla custard/icecream topped with boysenberry compote and crumble/pie crust. There wasn't anything too special about this sundae, I think the vanilla flavor from the custard overpowers the boysenberry flavor. The sundae itself is not overly sweet but compared to the Apple Pie Sundae, I would choose the Apple Pie. Recommend for anyone who enjoys the flavor profile of berries and cream. Nashville Chicken Tenders (3.5/5): Not overly breaded, there was a nice heat on the chicken (ordered Medium) and was much spicier than expected. The chicken itself was a good, not gamey or tasted like tenders out of the freezer. One thing I felt that was lacking from the flavor was that smokiness that you would normally find in the Nashville Hot Chicken. Points though for not being overly powdery or oily. I live out of the area but went to Joe Shmoe's 2 times over the past week while visiting my Dad in Cypress and ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich "Hot" both times. The service and friendliness of the servers is outstanding. I ordered at the restaurant once and online once. Both times everything went smoothly. The "Hot" chicken sandwich is H.O.T. . They have one even hotter that they call "Cluckin Hot" but there's no way I could do it. My son on the other hand is going to try it in a week so I will update my review once he does. Hope he has a gallon of milk nearby. The restaurant is extremely clean and organized. Next time I'm in this area I would sit down and order one of their 29 degree beers instead of getting my food to go. Just a great place that I would give 10 stars to if I could. I submitted a picture and it makes the sandwich look small. It's just the picture. The sandwich is not small. It's a normal sized chicken sandwich that is actually slightly larger than expected. I had a cheese burger and it was very good but definitely on the small side for the price of almost $9.00!!! What a great first visit at Joe Schmoe's! I perused the menu online and found a lot of fun hot dog and hamburger combinations. We ordered online and got the Nashville quarter chicken, Irish nachos subbed with crinkle fries, corn dog, and chunky monkey custard. There was a slight wait even though the online ordering system said it was ready for pickup, but I didn't mind because when we got home, the food was still piping hot! They really make the food to order. Everything was greasy, salty, and delicious! The broccoli salad was a nice surprise and reminded me a lot of the one at Souplantation! I also loved that they included everything in a large takeout cardboard tray so nothing spilled or got smashed. Thank you for also including ketchup and mustard. Everything was packed super well! This is the fourth time we have eaten at Joe Schmoe's and each time it has become increasingly worse. Today, my husband ordered two Chicago dogs. He started to eat one of them and noticed that the texture of the hotdog seemed strange, mushy to be exact. It didn't taste anything like a hotdog. He asked me to taste the it and I immediately spit it out because it felt like it was raw meat. There's no such thing as a raw hotdog so what the hell did they serve my husband? I ordered off the special menu, a brisket patty melt. Since it was on a special menu and was made with brisket, you'd think it was going to taste delicious. Well it wasn't good. The bread was completely burned and the grilled onions were mostly onions skins. Honestly, I may have been bamboozled and the meat was probably just plain old ground beef. My husband went to the front counter and told the employee about his hotdogs and they kindly swapped them out for some spicy chicken sliders. Unfortunately, the sliders were not good either and the french fries that came with it tasted like they were cooked in old grease. We spent $48 for dinner and ended up throwing away almost all of it. We didn't ask for our money back, but we left very disappointed and will never return. read more

I am living very close from this restaurant, so I gave a try. I have ordered chili cheese fries, L.A. street dog, and corn dog. Chili on the fries were mediocre, and there was nothing special. I hate the sausages inside of the hot dog, and corn dog because those were very chewy, and smelled bad. The corn dog itself was very salty. Everything is over priced considering the quality of ingredients, and they do not offer any combo meals, so I had to order fries and drink separately. I couldn't understand why there was a tipping option when I paying with the card, because this is not a restaurant that provides a full service.
