I have had the privilege of knowing Dr. Nevin Gokalp for over 20 years in various capacities: first as a doctor working on a legal case for the firm I was at, then as her patient, and finally as someone who witnessed her save my aunt's life. She is an exceptional doctor with an artistic touch and a perfectionist's eye, treating every patient as a masterpiece to enhance rather than change. Dr. Nevin performed breast augmentation for me after the birth of my first daughter in 2000, when one breast was left significantly smaller than the other. I waited to write a review because I wanted to reflect on everything that happened at Joel Beauty. I had never had fillers or botox before, so I scheduled a consultation with Dr. Elizabeth to discuss undereye fillers. She was friendly and polite, but looking back, I realize how unethical she was. Dr. Elizabeth is a board-certified plastic surgeon with many years of experience, which is what drew me to Joel Beauty in the first place. However, I don't think it is appropriate for a doctor (or anyone) to point out everything she deems wrong with someone's face. After I told Dr. Elizabeth I was interested in undereye fillers, she carefully examined my face from all angles. Then she started to list all my "flaws" and describe how she would "fix" them. She seems to want everyone's faces to follow a certain white-washed standard of beauty instead of celebrating people's diversity and ethnic backgrounds. It is one thing for a doctor to give their professional opinion on whether a procedure is right or not for someone (i.e., if the undereye fillers I was interested in were appropriate for me). It is a whole other thing for her to criticize the shape of my eyes, forehead, cheeks, etc., and suggest ways to make my face more "pleasant." She prides herself on knowing what is best for her clients/patients, telling me a story of a surgical patient who had not given consent to liposuction. Still, Dr. Elizabeth decided to do it anyway while performing another procedure and bragged about it to me during my consultation. There were so many red flags during my interaction with Dr. Elizabeth that I'm shocked I didn't get up and leave. I caution anyone considering Joel Beauty to stay away. Dr. Elizabeth has a way of talking to her patients like she is their best friend and has their best interests in mind, but that is just a technique to manipulate clients and upsell more procedures and more injections. You should also be aware of the cost. I had a migraine, and she suggested botox injections around my forehead, neck, and shoulders. She kept saying she was using just "a little bit" and then presented me with a $2,200 bill. read more
