Our garage door kept having issues recently. When the door is closing, it'd go back up again. We made sure the sensors were not obstructed, but the issue persists. Our garage spring broke on a Sunday. I left Eric a voice message Sunday night and he was able to come take a look Monday morning. In addition to replacing springs, our belt teeth were also worn down so we upgraded to a new garage door opener with new belt. Eric was very straightforward with costs, even encouraging us to take a look at the various models before making a decision. He offered to give us a discount too for replacing both springs and the garage door opener. We ended up going with the newest LifeMaster that has remote access, a 360 LED light, and a video camera. This was a little more expensive than a basic model, but totally worth it to us! When my 20 year old garage door opener stopped working and made a loud grinding noise, I assumed I would need a new one. I called a few places to get a quote for a replacement. Petersen's quote for a new model and installation was very reasonable compared to others I called that wanted twice the amount for a similar unit without installation. When Eric arrived last weekend, he was very pleasant and professional and masked. When I described the issue, he listened to the grinding and told me that, in his experience, my unit probably only needed a small part replacement. He checked the unit, showed me the broken part and said that he could replace that part for the cost of a service call (about 1/8th the price of new unit) rather than replace the whole unit. He felt that the unit still have useful life. He also said that he would apply the service call fee to the new unit if my unit failed again within 3 months, and I decide to change out the unit. I suspect most people would have just installed the new unit that I asked for rather than diagnosis a problem and repair. Today's mindset seems to be replace rather than repair (which is why I thought I would need a new unit). In less than an hour, Eric changed out the part, reassembled then unit, secured, tightened, and lubricated the track so now it operated even more quietly (I have a screw type opener). Eric Peterson installed my garage door opener last year. My garage door stopped working on a Saturday a couple of days before we were leaving on a trip for two weeks. Eric's office is closed on weekends so I left a message. He called back and said he could come by. I described the problem and he said it would cost about $100 to fix. I didn't want to interrupt his weekend so I found a company that would come on Sunday. The technician came and quoted $375. I asked what the hourly rate was and he said it was by the job. I was pretty sure that the only problem was putting the cable back on the reel. No replacement parts. I said no and canceled the call. I contacted Eric and he said he could come by in a few minutes. I had another great experience with Peterson today. My garage door was acting up, unable to close all the way and flashing the light 10 times (Liftmaster). The gentleman that answered the phone knew exactly what was going on. The sensors at the bottom of the rails were getting triggered because the movement of the door bends the track as it approaches the ground. The bending causes the sensors to lose alignment and the door immediately reverses direction thinking there is an obstacle in its path. He advised me to loosen the wingnuts holding the sensor and realign it. 10 seconds later, my problem is solved! A dishonest vendor could have easily cheated me, but Peterson helped me for free over the phone. Thank you again!! read more
