This place has to be the most inconsistent breakfast place around. Some days you get great service and the food comes out faster than expected and its always pretty decent . NOT TODAY..... April 19 ( today ) was one of those days that leave you scrat hing your head in amazement. It was the wife and I and another couple a father and his kid. The place was empty. Everything started off fine I get my usual iced tea and coffee with a donut . After we got that is when everything went downhill faster than an Olympic skier. Our waitress was the short and wide woman with dark brown hair..She's been pretty decent in the past as she's waited on us before without any issues. Today wasn't one of those days. We had to get another waitress to take our order and she said she doesnt take orders she would have to " FIND " our waitress...We ordered and a few minutes later our food was placed on the expedite shelf where it stayed for exactly 7 minutes and 35 seconds. The cooks even shouted a second time for our waitress . We'll she thought playing around with the napkin dispensers was more important than taking care of her customers....When we finally got our food it was Stone Cold , I'm not one that will easily complain about the smallest detail but this was utterly ridiculous for only 2 couples in the place...I can see things might be skipped here and there in a Full House but Damn. We had to chase her down every time we needed something or use other waitresses to chase her down because they didn't want to serve us because we weren't their customers. After everything was said and done we got to-go boxes and I told the waitress how cold the food was for the extraordinary ammount of time it spent on the shelf and that I was just gonna take it home and heat it up... Did I get a Sorry? ..NOPE.....Did I get anything comped ( Which I wouldn't expect or accept )...NOPE..... I'm not one of those people that complain just for the sake of complaining... Our waitress was on another planet today , her body was in the restaurant but her brain was somewhere else... Needless to say we paid for our COLD meal and the Tip I gave her reflected our service this morning ..." Non- Existent " Maybe someone higher up on the ladder will see this and have a meeting with the front employees and refresh their memories that the people sitting at the tables are customers too. Went in on a Wednesday morning to get a dozen donuts for my team and the server was very nice! It was very early, around 7:30am, when i went and it was not busy at all. My server insisted that I wait a couple of extra mins to get a fresh batch and they were amazing! As good as I remember! Only thing I would point out would be that they were a little greasier than I remembered, so once the glaze and donut cooled down, it was much better!! read more

Had a very random, super early morning and pancakes were needed. Decided to order takeout from Joe's since it's not too far from the house. I stop in to get donuts every once in a while, but it had been quite some time since I'd had their breakfast. I went online to check out their menu and discovered they had an online ordering system! I was able to place my order and pay with ease and any small changes or customizations were really easy to include. I had an estimated wait time of 25-30 minutes, and my order was ready right on time. Everything tasted hot, and fresh, and looked like it was made with intention. I got the breakfast quesadilla, a single pancake, side of smoked sausage, and small order of grits. The quesadilla was pretty good, but it could have used more cheese and sausage in my opinion. I had an apple fritter and a couple of sweet rolls. They were awesome. I had a mocha hot coffee which was marginal at best. It seemed like a decent place, but I have to admit... seeing some employees with masks under their chins or with their nose outside the mask, I didn't feel safe. A friend purchased me an e-phone gift certificate from Joe's Web site for a Christmas gift. Went to the Joe's near my house on Barataria Blvd. They looked at it and would not honor it. They claim that they know nothing about it. So now my friend is trying to figure it out. They originally said they had no gift cards at the store, but when I went there they told me they had in store gift cards.. all I'm getting is a bunch of double talk . Needed food before heading to our airboat adventure and happened upon this little establishment. The place is a little dark and dismal inside but the employees were really nice and treated us exceptionally well. I had a sausage, egg & cheese biscuit and my husband had a ham & cheese croissant. When I opened my to-go container, I was amazed at the size of my breakfast. It was HUGE and exactly what I needed. The biscuit fell apart as I took my first bite and I wished I had grabbed a plastic fork but managed to put that bad boy away with using my fingers to scoop up massive amounts of biscuit, egg, sausage and cheese. So yummy. My guy opened his when we reached our destination and his croissant was as big as his face, LOL. Sadly, they had put egg on his sandwich and he couldn't eat it so it was wasted by going in the trash. We tried to buy a mini king cake but they were out. Joe's cafe is one of my go-to's for some delicious, fluffy donuts on the Westbank. Recently I discovered their hot glazed beignets! Now those literally melt in your mouth! Heads up, its a bit of a wait for them but its so worth because they are fresh and hot! Yumm! read more

While the food is fine, the overall condition is making me question how the food is prepared and under what conditions. If the guest bathroom... looks like this... I highly doubt this small place has a staff bathroom so now I'm wondering if the staff washes their hands before touching food? Is the dish washer clean and up to grade honestly? Is the stove ever cleaned? I know I refused to use the facilities just because the sink looks so bad. The decay has been so long it's literally eating the faucet... so let's wonder for how long has it been like this? A new faucet is what.. $25 at Walmart? My meal with my husband was $26... and never again will we be back. Money is walking out of the door, the owner needs to prioritize when addressing the conditions, or maybe the next owner should prioritize the conditions? read more

Joe's is ok if you're looking for a slow-paced Saturday morning meal. The staff is sometimes slow to notice when patrons walk in to order. We like the biscuits and donuts, and every now and then we will sit down inside for full breakfast plates. read more

After reading some reviews, we were a little unsure whether to try this place out. So we looked at a few of the 1 star reviews and tested them out. One said the grits weren't cooked right. In my opinion, the grits were well made and cooked to perfection. One questioned the food service and sanitation practices of the based on the cleanliness of the bathroom. We went to the bathroom and while it wasn't the most amazing bathroom, we came here to eat not go to the bathroom...BUT I think they did make some improvements compared to the pictures posted. We had plastic silverware but ceramic plates. I did not get the "school cafeteria" feel. The service was sufficient and our server was friendly. She seemed to have a lot going on but it didn't take away from a good experience. Now for the food. It was amazing. The pancakes were some of the best pancakes I've ever tasted. The eggs were made to perfection. And the donuts were much better than Dunkin'. Our family of 6 had a great experience! read more

I stopped by recently with a friend of mine. I ordered beignets. These were the second worst I have ever had. ( That honor goes to Tastee Donuts on the corner of Trans. & W. The restaurant wasn't full. I ordered ahead online, I tipped 20% on a pick up order also planning to tip cash when I picked up the order. We waited an hour for the food, 30 minutes past the projected pickup time to get cold food. The pancakes were burnt and had like 5 pieces of pecans on them. They sent no syrup. The cheese was wrong on my quesadilla. I didn't even get the donut we ordered because 10 minutes after getting our other food, we were still waiting on said donut because the waitress was too busy talking. The food was gross. Never again. I see why they have such a low rating. The worst part is I really wanted to leave a nice extra tip because it's Mother's Day, but I was so aggravated to leave after such a long wait without even my whole order. I would have understood better if they were slammed. I feel like they assumed we wouldn't tip because it was a to go order, but I have worked Mother's Day myself many times. Time for a downgrade to 2 stars. My mother was visiting from Canada, and requested that on this visit, she wanted to try beignets. Knowing that Joe's is right down the street from us, I figured this was a better alternative in the extreme heat than going down to the super touristy Cafe Du Monde. This was our breakfast stop on Saturday morning. We ordered a little bit of actual food, and then one order of beignets to share at the table. Actually, let me backtrack a little... we came in, and instinctivly went to the counter to order, like one would expect at a coffee/donut shop. They told us to sit down if we were dining in. I figured, ok, great, they have waiter service.. even better! After about 7 minutes of waiting, they took our drink order. They were out of apple juice so we got 3 orange juices and I ordered a cafe au lait (after all, that's required with beignets in my mind). The OJ came quickly. The cafe au lait somehow took 10 minutes to make. I was almost ready to scratch the "au lait" and just ask for a regular coffee, but couldn't find the waitress anywhere until the cafe au lait finally arrived. It was okay, but I've had better just about everywhere. Definitely not worth the wait. My fiance enjoyed his donuts. The beignets were excellent. The waffle that my mother and my toddler split was exceptionally subpar. It arrived lukewarm at best. My omelet... ugh. I ordered it with cheddar cheese, as you apparently have the choice of cheddar or american. I HATE processed fake slimy cheese. When it finally arrived, it had 2 slices of american on top. Luckily, they weren't melted at all, so I just picked those off and tossed them to the side of the plate. No cheese for me. Next I discovered the lovely canned mushrooms inside of the omelet. The sausage and bell peppers were seemingly fresh. The egg itself was coated in so much butter that I couldn't taste anything but butter anyway though. I ate half of it and gave it to the fiance to finish, as the pool of butter on the plate was a major turn off. At the end of it all, the waitress never came by to collect our payment for the food, so we went to the counter to pay - despite being told not to order at the counter in the first place. Would I come back to Joe's? Sure, but only for beignets, which will not be a frequent trip. I haven't found anything else worthy of the exceptional wait time that has apparently become the norm at this establishment. read more

I would give it 3 1/2 stars. I come here alot. Not like the best in Marrero, but it is good and the selection is good. Though a little pricey but when we dont wanna cook and Jakes isnt open and the kids dont feel like Mexican, and we dont feel like going too far...we come here. Usually late in the evening. Everytime I come here, no matter what time of day, I get breakfast. My baby gets pancakes, my 10 year old gets crawfish corn soup and my wife gets the coutry friend steak. Well maybe not everytime, we do stray and try something new, check out my pics, but almost everytime its the same :-) When its take out, I grab the mini burgers(castle burgers) for a party or garage sale. On Sundays i get the donuts,............ (Pro tip)... check the paper during the week because there is coupons in there for a dozon donuts for $4.99!! Instead of $7! I had no idea this place existed, but I'm happy I found it. This is a pretty cool place they. They have sprinkle doughnuts, waffles, breakfast, lunch, omlettes....they have a lot it's not just a doughnut place. It actually feels more like a restaurant with more that just sandwiches and burgers. They also have different lunches everyday. The staff wouldn't stop being so nice to me. They'd ask if I needed anything to eat or drink as I worked on my laptop with my coworker, and suggested some pretty delicious entrees. Order 2 egg biscuit and 2 eclairs only 2 egg biscuit and charge me 23.00,did get the 2 eclairs.

So I placed an order from here over phone the lady said it would be 20mins. I arrived within allotted time to pick up food. Once I paid the lady said it should be up soon which took an additional 25mins before food was ready. The lady didn't even offer a courtesy drink or whatever. I ordered 3 plates a seafood dinner with fish, shrimp and fries. 2nd plate was blackened fish with seasoned vegetables side salad and garlic bread which they forgot. 3rd plate was white beans with fried fish. Now mind you all I'm thinking food was gonna be proportionate but fooled me. The fish on all plates was cut in pieces as if they cut a whole piece of fish into pieces. The seafood dinner looked like it coulda been a kids meal. If it's not donuts I won't eat no more food from here. We were skeptical about stopping here but it was close to our swamp tour location and we didn't want to run the risk of being too far from start time. I'm so happy this is what we found. Pancakes are huge so if your kid is like mine who barely eats maybe sharing one from a different order will be enough. We ordered chicken and waffles, pancake breakfast, and a French toast breakfast. The egg was delicious the French toast were our favorite but everything was so good over all. The service is phenomenal everyone so friendly and all servers share the responsibility. They messed up the order and when kindly pointing it out, the cook in the back was screaming and throwing a fit and refused to fix it. New management clearly doesn't mean anything. My family is from here, but I grew up in the northeast so naturally I've been to a ton of "cafe/coffee shops". From NY to DC I've been to the classic cafe/diners to the hipster pop-ups with multiple charging stations and 10 item menus. I love coffee. I've been to the Joe's Cafe II on Lapalco which is equally good (had that huge pecan cinnamon roll and got my life!!) but I love this one on Barataria. Service is awesome, people are friendly. The food. Lawwwwd the food. Where can you get an excellent latte, a REAL donut, and perfectly fried fish at the same place?! Where they do that at?? And don't get me started on the crawfish and corn soup!!! The only reason why I'm not here every. single. day. is because I could NOT just come in here and only get my daily coffee. Man, I really, really liked this place. First of all, you can build your own omelette, which is nice, and you can order from a large selection of donuts, double nice. You can get a sausage and jalapeño omelette with an apple fritter. The best part though, it's open 24/7 and you can get fancy coffee. This is an affordable breakfast/brunch spot. Open 24 hours a day, I bet it's fantastic after the bars shut down for the night. The donuts were fresh and tasty, even later in the day. Ehhh. This place is just....what can I say...blahhh. Everything here is just soooo whatever.. My boyfriend and I decided to come here to try something new. Boy were we lucky to come before all the other church people came! There was only one cook, so the other people were going to be waiting A WHILE on this mediocre food. We were the only ones in the place when we ordered, and it still took longer than it should to make what we ordered. I ordered a strawberry waffle and the country breakfast, which includes eggs, hashbrowns, sausage and a biscuit. My boyfriend got an alligator po-boy. While waiting we decided to order some donuts. I got the apple crumble and the glazed bavarian cream, and he got the buttermilk cake. They were just ok. The waffle came out first and was disappointed to see how thin it was. The strawberries and strawberry sauce was too think and sweet, so I had to scrape those off. So not satisfying at all. The breakfast came out and it was just a standard breakfast. Though my boyfriend did seem to be enjoying this sandwich. All in all, I probably wouldn't come back here unless I had to. This is a cute little shop that used to be Mackenizes a longgg time ago. When you walk in, the smell is amazing. They have a ton of sweets, specializing in donuts. We stopped here because I wanted another round of beignets before leaving LA, and their sign advertised hot beignets. Unfortunately, they were out. I was a little disappointed. I settled for a turtle and an eclaire. The turtle was okay. The eclaire was pretty good. It was huge. My son doesn't usually eat donuts, but he had a chocolate one with sprinkles and ate the whole thing so it must've been pretty good. I bought my mom a dozen before leaving. She loves buttermilk ones and said they were even better than Coffee & donuts. I've also heard their entrees are out of this world so I'm sure I'll be back next time we're down there :) read more

Solid 3.5 No frills BF/Lunch spot in Marrero. Their donuts are everything a donut should be; they have quite an assortment. I am partial to the glazed with chocolate frosting and colorful sprinkles. Have you ever seen a more happy donut? Sat at the bar and had breakfast Sunday. (note: don't sit at the very end of the bar if you can help it, dish station is right there and pretty loud). The ladies working behind the counter call you "darlin" and make sure your coffee cup is full. I had the pancakes. Can't go wrong with a short stack of fluffy pancakes! And to use their online ordering website...Well their ordering website has been down for some time...And last week they were actually taking phone orders because of that fact. Well she called today 9-30-21 at 8:12 am to place an order and the person that answered the phone said to use the app / website , my wife said it was still broken ...Then the employee said extremely rudely I might add that she was too busy to take an order...Umm , I've been going here for years and I know their busy days and times VERY WELL.....I don't like being lied to one bit by a rude employee.....My response to this will be to never spend a dime in this establishment again and talk my friends and neighbors into not patronizing the establishment themselves...I used to enjoy this little place...not any more...Have a nice day ,hope this helps everyone not to waste your time and money here... read more

It's not often I give a place 5 stars because no one is perfect, right. But when you have the "ability" to put Krispy Kreme (1/2 mile) away out of business you've got something. I added some photos, but that's only half of the story. Donuts the size of 45rpm records, (oops, showing my age) but also since the 45 was around these were the best donuts they had anywhere. In the lovely state of Florida, they have s place called "Debbie Does Donuts". A topless donut shop--ask anyone between Orlando and Saint Augustine. That's what they need to bring in customers. This place in New Orleans doesn't need to exploit women, they have quality workers that go out of their way to make your experience great, and you breakfast a delight.
