Donuts are very good!! Some of the best I've eaten. They have some creative flavors. Breakfast is fantastic, but the coffee isn't strong enough for me. The burgers!!! This is the worst place on the westbank. I ordered a salad and waited 40 minutes in line for it, along with the person in front of me. Not once to someone walk up to the window and tell me anything about my order. And once I received it, they didn't even apologize for the wait. If I could leave zero stars I would...My wife knew they changed their policy that they no longer take phone orders. And to use their online ordering website...Well their ordering website has been down for some time...And last week they were actually taking phone orders because of that fact. My friends and I went to Joe's Barataria tonight March 26. At 8:40 PM,we ordered food and at 9:50 we still did not have our food. When we asked about our food at 9:20,we were told there was a problem with a cook. At least 20 minutes later still no food. We had to ask again, the courtesy to let us know of the delay did not exist. The service was horrendous. We paid for our drinks and had to leave without eating. We waited long enough. We ordered from Joe's via Waitr. First of all, as soon as I ordered my food my phone immediately rang letting me know they were out of one of my chosen sides. No problem, I changed to a side salad. Our food arrived 30 minutes earlier than expected and piping hot! We ordered chicken and waffles. They forgot to send the syrup, but we had some at home. It was delicious. at 6:30pm we arrived at joes cafe. our waitress was very unwelcoming but we chose to ignore it. We ordered our drinks. The frozen coffee was watered down and flavorless. Multiple families arrived after us and were fed and able to leave before us. the surf and turf burger was dry and over cooked. The Caesar salad wasn't even a Caesar salad. The blt was very dry. While the donuts are good they are not the best you ever had. If you like weak coffee then you will like theirs. Lunch ordered a hamburger through drive-thru parked on side till ready and they brought it out to my car it had a good taste but fries were too browned you could tell they were cooked twice which is common in restaurant business but the first fry should be just a blanching not a full fry. Second time getting lunch here ordered the specials chicken stew and pot roast. While I cannot vouch for the pot roast as I never tasted it I can tell you the chicken stew is not worth even thinking about skip it really folks don't waste your money and don't punish your taste buds. There was about 3 cups of rice 1/2 cup of gravy too many large cuts of potatoes with skin and eyes still on. The abundance of thyme in the stew was very overwhelming that if there were any other seasonings they were lost by the amount of thyme. Decided to give them another try. WORST IDEA EVER! First off the girl who answered the phone "Jody "asked us to hold and hollered "who can take a phone order" um you should take the phone order, you picked up the phone didn't you. Strike one. It was Sunday close to lunch time I figured they were probably busy, so whatever gave her the benefit of the doubt. She gave a wait time (twenty minutes), reasonable. I finally arrived to pick up my order and no one seemed to know about the order that was just placed...AFTER the fact that they decided to take a credit card number! Is there no communication at this place is all I thought! At this point I seriously just wanted my money back. They finally find "Jody" who took the order and she recalled that yea she did take the order. They asked us to pull up. We waited about 10 more minutes till finally the food came out. We got to the house and opened the food containers and half the order was messed up. I called back very nicely and asked if I could get a credit or something. Jody said that the manager "Danielle" would be in tomorrow and that she would take my info and give it to her. Guess what ?!?!! Danielle never called and even though this place is 2 min away from me I won't ever be placing an order for more than 2 people if I even choose to return. There's too many other breakfast spots. They're pretty good for doughnuts which is generally what I come here for! They're just your standard, typical donuts shop. Not the best, but not the worst either. Some of the best doughnuts, apple fritters, and fried pastries around. The breakfasts are large but go with the simple bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit and you will be delighted. The biscuit is the perfect vessel for the sandwich as long as you get it with cheese so that the cheese will melt and glue the biscuit together. Even if it falls apart you will want to pick up and eat the crumbs. The mini-burgers are good too, if you're into those. The apple fritters are great if they have any left. The outside is crispy with a gooey inside all covered in doughnut glaze. They sell out at times which is good because if they do have any they are probably warm and fresh. read more

I've only been to Joes a half dozen times, primarily using the relatively quick drive through. On dine in occasions , the service was phenomenal, the staff was courteous, well spoken, and organized. Jamie, who was my waitress, greeted me with a smile, was very punctual in regards to taking my order and bringing my utensils and beverages. The food was delicious! On my first attempt at the lengthy menu, I had the hamburger and fries, totally awesome! My burger was fresh, cooked just right, fries were hot, and the wait was average. I'll wait an extra 10 minutes for a well prepared, meticulously cooked burger. I highly recommend the Apple fritter, chocolate eclairs (creme filled), and the red velvet cake donut for all you "sweet toothers"out there. Joe's also provided me with a TV to watch while waiting on my order and the overall decor and staff emanated a sweet and relaxed ambiance. Great place to eat! Highly recommended. Literally just walked out of here. One waitress got our drinks and menus and told us another waitress would come by to get our order. After waiting 20+ minutes, the waitress that was SUPPOSED to be helping us was running around to different tables, took another tables order and left us sitting there. The restaurant was NOT busy, and in the midst of us waiting, another couple walked out because they had been waiting for 35 minutes, the gentleman stated. When stopping her to ask why we were waiting and when was someone taking our order, she got belligerent and said no one told her we were there. Three different people passed us multiple times and said nothing. There are multiple people working a donut counter where there were no customers, why couldn't they take orders if our server was unable to. On Saturday September 3, 2011 I sent my husband to Joe's Cafe on Barataria Blvd to get donuts this was a very bad experience. The donuts were very poor quality in taste and presentation. They had a limited amount to chose from so he chose all filled glazed and powder. This was my third time giving my neighborhood business a chance to show me how good they were. I have had to bad experience there before with wait staff, and food . They are ill trained to make the specialty drinks that the have on the menu, it took the lady about 30 minutes to make a mocha coffee drink and then it was still wrong. OMG if you are going to be in business don't you think that you want to keep good wait staff to keep your customers coming back to be a repeat.
