This place has a sister restaurant up the road called Hen House. I was recommended here to Toast Gretna by the owners and workers from Hen House because they shut down restaurant operations to fully support their King Cake Operation. Awesome little homey restaurant with very friendly and helpful staff. Perfect brunch spot for the morning and early afternoon. We REALLY liked this breakfast place. First time we attempted to dine the line was out the door (weekend), so we picked a Friday morning and were able to get street parking and a spacious booth. Love the interior layout, and it is handicap accessible. Bar seating available. Lots of light. Seated immediately. Drink orders taken and brought - coffee, OJ and Diet Coke. Food was out in under 10 minutes. Husband's Mushroom Toast with Bacon was SO yummy, and they even put the egg on the side at our request. My ham, mushroom, spinach and Gruyere crepe was also divine. Y'all... I had this sandwich yesterday and I'm still thinking about it. Toast passed in every way. It was packed for Saturday brunch, but we only waited about 15 minutes. While we waited, there was plenty of space to hang out at the backyard bar and sip tasty coffee (or a morning cocktail if that's your vibe). Lots of seating, quick service, large kids menu, delicious specials. But this sandwich, y'all -- hands down the best fried chicken I've ever had. It was cooked to perfection, with a crunch on the outside and melting in my mouth on the inside. I don't remember the sauce, but it was on fresh brioche with bacon and some veggies. Had a side of your choice (I already finished before taking a pic .) My latte was excellent. The service was so sweet -- shoutout to Ionna for taking care of us and recommending the special. I wasn't even that hungry...but took one bite and devoured the whole thing. I couldn't get a pic of my neice's ratatouille omelette before she tore in, as well as my sisters food which was gone before you know it. Anywayzzz, we'll definitely be back. There's so much space out back, with a play set for kids. I honestly think I'm having my birthday brunch there when it cools off in the fall. On this visit, we were seated instantly at the bar due to limited seating available in the dining room. The bar service was great, quick, and easy! I was so excited when I saw they were opening a Toast in Gretna! Toast in Gentilly was one of the first brunch places I visited when I moved here and having in on the West Bank made it that much easier for me to get to! The new location is a great space with lots of dining space, both indoors and outdoors. The outdoor space has a wonderful playground a gorgeous mural painted in the back. The Abelskivers are my favorite especially with their homemade jam! Their toast is also super good, buttered on both sides and toasted. I could eat that alone, no need to add anything on top! If you know the oyster toast entree, it is usually layered, we didn't see the hair till we ate down to the plate. Went to Toast for brunch today with a friend and her daughters. I've been here twice before which the food and service was great, but today service was pretty bad. We opted for first available seating which happened to be outside after a short wait time. We were seated and given a water without glasses. Once we received glasses one had lipstick on the rim. I had to ask for a replacement twice and finally received it. Our orders were taken and food was served pretty fast. One of my friend's daughter's chicken had a piece of hair in it. Flies were bad which was to be understood outside, but we were not offered a fly fan for the table. I tried to get the attention of a few waitstaff to ask for a fan for the table to help reduce the flies. My ask went unheard so I went over and grabbed one from an empty table that had 2 sitting there. Lastly as we were still eating a waitstaff member came over to start removing empty plates. She knocked over syrup that fell through the table onto my friend's daughter's shoe and foot. I asked for a wet towel for her to clean off the syrup and she responded we don't have that but I can give you some napkins and you can use the water on the table. A wet paper napkin was not very helpful to remove sticky syrup from her foot. The bill was paid and we were out! Uncertain if the change of service was due to us being seated the last hour before closing or outdoor seating. Very disappointed!! If all of this had happened on my first visit I would not return. read more

We visited Toast as a group, and what we experienced was unacceptable. We come here often and have had good experiences in the past, which is exactly why this stood out so much. We were the first table seated outside. Our waitress, who stated she was a manager, was initially polite and took our drink order. As more tables were seated, she told us she was the only one working that section, and we were patient. At one point, there was a young Black woman seated with her two children who had clearly arrived before another table. Every table in that section was African American except for one table of white guests. When it came time to take orders, the waitress attempted to serve the white table first, even though the young woman with her children had been there before them. The young woman calmly spoke up for herself and stated that she had arrived first. Instead of correcting the situation, the waitress became defensive and told her she could leave because she "felt uncomfortable serving her." That was shocking. The young woman had been quiet, respectful, and had done nothing wrong. The situation escalated quickly. The waitress raised her voice, spoke to her in a disrespectful tone in front of everyone, and the young woman looked visibly upset and close to tears. Multiple tables, including ours, spoke up because what was happening was wrong. At one point, the waitress said, "so all of y'all are going to jump me," which was completely inappropriate. When asked for a manager, she stated that she was the manager, refused to take accountability, and then walked off and never returned. Let me be clear: what we witnessed felt like unfair treatment, and it was handled in the worst possible way. Thankfully, three other servers stepped in and were professional, kind, and attentive. They helped salvage the experience, and we appreciated them. But that interaction should never have happened. No customer should be treated that way, especially when they are simply speaking up for themselves respectfully. If this is how management handles situations, it will hurt this business. read more

They have a very cute outdoors space for you to sit and wait for your table to be called. They also have a small playground area for children to play on with swings and slides and stuff like that. The food here is really good I ordered the fish and grits, and I am happy to report that it is actually catfish. The grits weren't too creamy either. The potatoes are also really good. I ordered mimosa which is $16 for a large and eight dollars for a regular. I ordered the hibiscus mimosa which tasted like a wine cooler, and it wasn't very strong. Make sure you get on reservation list early because they become very busy on Sundays. Expect to wait at least an hour probably two. My friends and I joined the waitlist when we woke up that Sunday morning and then got ready and went to the restaurant. Toast Gretna is off the beaten path of downtown NOLA and the French Quarter, but well worth the 15 minutes or so drive. You can find more Gumbo and Etouffee in the FQ than you can hope to sample. For more variety you have to look a little harder. We did, and found Toast Gretna, a brunch spot nowhere near the French Quarter, not near anything else really. Parking is weird, with a very small private lot and nearly endless availability of street parking. We parked about 100 yards down the road and walked. Inside is clean and cheerful with a modern garden patio feel. On a Saturday around lunch, the inside was packed, but they had not started seating outside. We enjoyed the shaded table with nearby private playground, which was cool and not too loud. We started with the Aebelskivers, a puff of pancake dough served with powdered sugar and strawberry jam. This unique little app is not to be missed. I tried Alligator Toast, which I've never seen anywhere and was pretty much the star of the show for me. I was a little concerned it was too many textures but it came together beautifully. We also tried the French Toast which was the best I've ever had, crispy, soft, sweet, thick and delicious all the way through. Also on our menu was Mushroom, Onion, Spinach, and Gruyere crepe. Again, outstanding savory and creamy. Toast Gretna will be a must-visit for us anytime we return to NOLA. Highly recommended! read more
