But, I came here with a friend who was visiting from out of town with her daughter. My friend had experienced the Waffle House on a previous visit, but her daughter had not. So we came. Our server, Alvin (I think), was super helpful with recommendations and funny with jokes. We ordered the All-star breakfast and the cheesesteak melt and both were great. My friend and I had a disappointing breakfast on our final day in New Orleans, so stopping by this Waffle House on the way to the airport was the best decision we made that day. It took 20 minutes to make 2 bacon slices. While in town on a 4 day trip we visited Waffle House 3 out of the 4 days and the last day was AWESOME!!!! Thank you Denise for some good ol down home cooking. This woman cooks so darn good we waited about 15 mins until she got on the grill to place our order and of course she did not disappoint as it was cooked to perfection. Please Waffle House recognize this woman for her hard work and dedication to her job. Even the business district with its Michelin rated restaurants shares its streets with a Waffle House. I have gone to Waffle House for business meetings, at 4am to recoup from a night out drinking, for my first real meal after hiking in the mountains for 2 weeks, just to read and drink coffee and just because there weren't that many places to go that were open 24 hours. My scout troop used to meet up once a month at the Waffle House. I met a man named Spud-dude at the Waffle House. I have eaten many chicken melts with many important people in my life, some of whom aren't with us anymore. So what I'm trying to say here, is that when I bite in to an order of hash browns scattered-covered-smothered, it's not just greasy food, it brings back memories. That's the great thing about Waffle House, no matter which one you go to, it's always the same. The same building with the floor to ceiling windows, the same jukebox with Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and a dozen songs about waffles and scrambled eggs, and somehow the exact same type of waiter or waitress. That's what I wanted when I came here and that's what I got. It's cheap, greasy food that's made to order. There's nothing fancy about it, but that's okay because you always know what you're going to get. In my case, it's a chicken melt with extra pickles, hash browns scattered, smothered and covered (diced onions and cheese) and a sweet tea with lemon. Even though I don't get it often, the scrambled eggs with cheese are really good and served with buttery raisin bread. I'm glad that there's finally a Waffle House that's close to me.
