One of the best sushi experiences I've had from around the world. The atmosphere is amazing sitting in the DTLA skyline. Service is off the charts. And the Omakase is unbelievable. You will enjoy the experience, without question.

Three stars mainly for the view and ambiance. I wish I could say I was impressed with the food but I wasn't. I've been to hole in the wall Japanese spots that will blow their menu out the water. Unfortunately everything I ordered wasn't memorable. This steak kabob was enjoyable and the best thing I tried. I must say the service was impeccable and our waiter surely endeavored to provide great service through our visit here. It could've been an off night so I'm willing to try it once more.

The building to get to Takami is unassuming so as we walked up to the entrance, security was there to ensure you're at the right spot. Our hostess was aloof so I was reserved about their service. However, when we sat down, our server was attentive and friendly. Notable worthy mentions-- fatty salmon nigiri was my favorite, it had the perfect salmon to rice ratio, and was so buttery, it melted in my mouth. Definitely give the spicy seared salmon a try, the cucumber and jalapeño gave a fresh crunch that paired well with the seared salmon. Fatty nigiri sushi 10/10 Spicy seared salmon roll 10/10 Yuzu tiger roll 9/10 Seasons roll 8/10 Molten yuzu chocolate lava cake 7/10 Salmon carpaccio 9/10 Shishito peppers 7/10 Lychee martini 8/10 Jalapena Sandia 9/10 Would definitely recommend this spot for a romantic dinner or a birthday celebration. The view of LA is phenomenal, and it's nestled right in the heart of downtown.

The fish was very good! For being nighttime, it was fresh! It is a cozy rooftop restaurant, so the prices were very reasonable. There is an indoor and outdoor area for the restaurant, so you can choose your preference. Our server was super sweet and amazing. :) Also, the elevate lounge (club) is on the same floor if you wanted a place to go after eating.

Our first time dining in was almost five years ago. We had finally come back to relive the experience. We really love the robatas and rolls. I only trust their recommended sakes since I am too picky. Overly satisfied. The sceneries make the ambiance cloud 9. All of the staffs and chefs were so beyond the friendliest and kindest with their services. Always our number 1 favorite restaurant to celebrate our anniversaries. 5 months of dating for our first dining and 5 years of committed relationship for our second time.

This place was terrible, one of the servers we had were even kind of dismissive. The quality of sushi, and items were a big disappointment. The presentation was lacking, and the sushi didn't seem fresh at all. The place is def overpriced, and I believe you are paying for a view. Sushi is $25+ but we are being served water in from pitchers and plastic cups.

On June 7th, 2025 Saturday evening, my family and I celebrated my parents' wedding anniversary with a family dinner at Takami in Downtown LA. We had an amazing view of the LA skyline and enjoyed the nice ambience over the food. The only downside was that the portions were a bit too small. Still, we had a wonderful family time, enjoying the beautiful view and great atmosphere. The server was also friendly.

    - Amazing Food & Vibe, but Service Needs Some Work Takami Sushi & Robata has incredible food and a beautiful atmosphere. The sushi and robata dishes were super fresh, nicely plated, and tasted just as good as they looked. You can tell a lot of care goes into presentation and quality. The ambiance is another win--modern, classy, and perfect for a night out in LA. Whether it's date night or a special occasion, the setting definitely elevates the experience. Now for the part that needs improvement: customer service. The staff wasn't rude, but they weren't very attentive either. With food and ambience this good, you'd expect the service to match the level--but it didn't quite get there. A little more friendliness, attention, and polish from the team would go a long way. Fresh & delicious food Beautiful atmosphere Service needs improvement Still a great spot overall--just hoping the service steps up to match the quality of the food.

I came here for a birthday. The service was good. You need to valet park it was $15. The sushi roll selection was very standard and the taste was average. The decor was nice and it had a good view.

came here a few times for a family birthday celebration and it never fails to impress me with the grandeur of the views, food presentation, and overall fancy vibes haha. we always get the omakase, which is around $165 pp pre tax. and a bottle of yuzu sake for the table. all the dishes were pretty good but if i came without my family i would just get the spicy tuna crispy rice. had that for the first time this time around, and wow, it was so delicious. i love the accent of the fried jalapeño on top and the creamy, slightly spicy sauce, and the perfectly crispy rice. love love love! cocktails are pretty good here, but nothing too special imho. i always get the lychee vodka cocktail, and it's nice and cute. the servers are incredibly kind, even with our crazy little nieces and nephews tearing down the building LOL. they're chill. good place for kids i guess. very attentive and kind. we love it here. especially the ambiance is pretty bougie and nice :) views of the city are spec-tacular

Great modern sushi. We ordered the tuna crispy rice, hand rolls and yellowfin salmon rolls. The ambiance is beautiful because the outdoor section is open so you can see the surrounding corporate buildings nearby while enjoying fresh air. There are heat lamps to keep you warm during winter time. Service is great, swift and prompt. I'd come back again

Great lunch special deals that come with the amazing ambiance. For $36, you get a premium roll of choice with 5 nigiris and miso soup. I was left satiated afterwards. The gyoza was pretty good as well.

We did the omakase for my cousins birthday and Seth was the server and he made the experience great! He made sure to explain each course and which items to eat first. He even presented and placed the dishes in a specific way based on how it was intended to be eaten. All of the omakase experiences I've had have been in front of the sushi chef, but this experience was different. Nevertheless, I felt that Seth really elevated the experience. I didn't see any mocktails on the menu so I did ask Seth if they had any mocktails and he told me the mocktails they had and made great recommendations. Each course was so different and was a whole experience in itself. Every dish was unique but the flavors were good and balanced. I wanted to give this place 5 stars, but there were a few things that did not make this experience perfect. After the first course, our dishes still had leftover sauce on it. As the busser was taking our plates, he kept spilling the sauce. One spilled on my cousins boyfriend and I watched as he took my sister's plate and I had to say "you're spilling!" or it would've gotten on her too. This made me very cautious after each course, especially the one that had the hot stone. Another con was the wait in between each course. The other omakase experiences that I've had have been in front of a sushi chef and they limit the amount of guests so they know once you've finished a course and can transition to the next. Of course this restaurant is different and it has its own experience, but the wait between was lengthy. Seth did mention to us about the drinks taking a while so we appreciated the heads up, but the food took a bit of time. Despite the cons, I did like the overall experience. The fish was fresh, and each course seemed to be meticulously thought out. I had a lychee mojito mocktail and a watermelon mocktail and they were both good. We ordered a few more items before we got dessert and everything tasted so good!

Takami Sushi & Robata Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Takami Sushi & Robata

    Can we wear baseball caps?

    Yes

    How much is bottle service?

    How's the parking?

Valet dedicated to Takami and Elevate. I think it's $10/$12 so not much different from a parking structure cost. There's a sign so you can't miss it.

    When is happy hour?

    No happy hour

Are reservations required & is there still a happy hour menu on Sunday's?

You should still make reservations and I'm not sure about a happy hour on Sunday

    Hi! Is vaccination required?

    No nobody checked

    Has happy hour returned?

    Yes! Tuesday-Friday 4:30-6:00.

Is there outdoor seating for unvaccinated guests?

    No.

    Are Happy hours back?

Hello! We are currently in the process of formatting our happy hour into the new space. Please keep an eye on our Instagram page @takamisushila or our Facebook page for updates.

    Indoor dining available?

No but their outdoor patio is socially distanced, covered and has plenty of heaters

Does the specialty dishes come with rice or a side order?

All specialty dishes are served ala carte, however full sides of white rice, brown rice, grilled or steamed vegetables, potato au gratin, or potato purée are available for purchase.

Can you do happy hour at the bar and also order from regular menu?

Yes. The regular menu will be available from 5:00 and on 7 days a week. Between 4:30 and 5:00, only the happy hour menu is available.

What is the dress code attire for this? I'm trying to set up a date with my girlfriend, and curious, because i dont want to over dress or under dress .

Takami does not have a dress code. As mentioned in some previous responses, some clientele do come out dressed for date night or after work, but we do not have any set requirement.

    Do they allow kids/teens?

I actually saw a baby or two when I was there in the lounge area, but I feel that it's more of an adults-only type of place. Too swanky for the youngins. You can still call and ask.

Fresh and Flavorful Seafood I've visited this seafood spot…read moretwice recently, and both times the food was fresh and flavorful. The shrimp cocktail was especially good, with generously sized shrimp and a tasty cocktail sauce. My order had 14 shrimp, which felt like a fair portion for the price. It came with three tostadas, though only one hot sauce packet was included. That's a minor detail, but I would have appreciated extra packets. Good Value Seafood isn't cheap, but the prices here seem reasonable. They also offer weekday lunch specials that make items like the shrimp cocktail an even better deal. The campechana is another solid option and worth trying. Small Neighborhood Spot The restaurant itself is small, but there always seem to be customers inside, which says a lot. I also like that they decorate for holidays...it gives the place a welcoming neighborhood feel. Pickup Experience I've only ordered takeout, and my food has been ready quickly both times. Service was decent overall, although there was a brief moment during my last visit where I wasn't acknowledged right away while waiting for my order. Overall If you're craving a good shrimp cocktail or campechana, this local spot is worth checking out. Fresh seafood, fair prices, and a convenient neighborhood location make it a place I'll be visiting again.

We started with the oyster sampler featuring selections from Hollywood, MD; Pope's Bay, VA; Buzzards Bay, MA; Chesapeake Bay, VA; and Wellfleet, MA. The oysters were exceptionally fresh and served with great accompaniments. We always order oysters when visiting seafood restaurants because freshness is so important to us, and Water Grill absolutely delivered. A must-order. The grilled Spanish octopus, served with fingerling potatoes, Niçoise olives, roasted tomato, pine nuts, and olive oil, was very good (3.5/5). We're fairly picky when it comes to octopus, and while we would have liked a bit more char, it was still among the better versions we've had. The New Zealand king salmon sushi with avocado, hazelnuts, papaya, and white soy-lime vinaigrette was fresh, clean, and delicious (5/5). While not particularly unique, it was executed perfectly. The crispy calamari with harissa aioli and cilantro-mint sweet chili sauce was also well done (4/5)--crispy, not oily, and very enjoyable. Calamari is another dish we frequently order, and this version met our standards, even if it wasn't especially memorable. The standout among the appetizers was the New Zealand pink bream ceviche with cilantro, red peppers, onions, lemon juice, and olive oil. The presentation was beautiful, and the flavors were incredibly fresh (5/5). We only added a touch of salt. This is another must-order dish. The Peruvian bay scallops with pistachio citrus pesto were somewhat underwhelming (3/5), and the Brussels sprouts with bacon and chestnuts (3/5) didn't leave much of an impression either. The lobster itself was excellent (5/5)--sweet, fresh, and perfectly prepared. The accompanying coleslaw wasn't our favorite, but we'd happily order the lobster again and probably go for a larger portion next time. The absolute star of the evening was the Massachusetts black sea bass. It was easily one of the best dishes of the night and possibly one of the best fish dishes we've ever had at a restaurant (5/5). Tender, juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. To top it all off, the restaurant surprised us with a complimentary birthday dessert featuring chocolate cake, vanilla cake, oatmeal cake, and ice cream. It was thoughtful, delicious, and a wonderful ending to the meal (5/5). Overall, Water Grill earns a well-deserved 5/5. The quality and freshness of the seafood were outstanding, the beachfront ambiance was beautiful, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout the evening. Definitely a must-try seafood destination in Los Angeles. Thank you to the entire team for such a memorable experience--we truly appreciated it.
