Ever since Joey has moved to town, I've been curious. I would always find somewhere different in the end, but I have a NY tax return coming, and told myself that the small chunk of change would go towards dinner with one of my favorite lady friends. We were seated on a Monday night as soon as we got in, though it took a while for the waitress to swing by. We had noticed that other (later arriving) tables were getting attention, and just as we were discussing ditching Joey for Joe's across the street, our waitress popped up. It's a relatively busy place for such a small parking lot, and she was so polite about it that we agreed to stay. Despite sounding like it'd be the more casual brother of the neighboring Josephs, that was not the case. Granted, there's a rainbow flashing light around the ceiling and paper placemats. The food however, is quality. Originally I had hoped for the German potato salad, until the promise of bacon stopped me. My eye had been caught by the nightly specials list, with one word that has always caught my attention, never enough to outdo the rest of a menu. That night it did, and I took the risk of spanikopita, asking for a single crab cake. My friend also got swayed by the specials menu, opting to drop a hefty bill on some sort of fish that I can't recall, because I was too busy enjoying her company to ask. Her meal came with salad or soup, and being a Massachusetts girl, she perked at the promise of clam chowder. It came in a cup with a packet of saltines. She remarked that it was good, though she's been spoiled by better, given her roots. She didn't need to adjust the seasoning and she finished it all, so I'd say it was worthy. The waitress had dropped off a pair of rolls with whipped butter along with it. I smartly waited for my meal, thinking I'd save stomach room. My goodness, even without the roll, there was no way my stomach would have had room. The spanikopita came out, a monster of a slice. From the get go, after nosing around on the inside, I sliced off half and moved it to the bread plate to make sure I left room for my crab cake. I took a tentative bite, immediately smitten with how it happened back to an upscale version of my favorite (prematurely discontinued) Lean Pocket. Flaky crust, full of spinach and cheese. I offered a bite to my pal who then admitted she was glad to have not talked me out of getting it, despite past experience telling her otherwise. Honestly, I could see myself ordering it to go if it made the regular menu. The rest of our food came together. I was baffled when twin cakes got set before me, asking the waitress who promised to remedy the bill for the kitchen's mistake. I added one to my to go pile, cutting in to find a soft interior of wonderous seafood delight inside a crunchy tater tot-like exterior. The bed of sauce it laid on, most of which I left behind, seemed to add a bit of a kick to the dish. (I've since made a sandwich of the pillowy roll and crab as part of my leftovers and highly suggest doing this.) My friend offered a bite of her fish, which flaked easily at the pull of my fork. It was enrobed in a sauce that paired well, and while it was tasty, we were both satisfied with what we had ordered ourselves. She, stuffed, couldn't clear her plate. I couldn't either, asking for a to go box, as the food I'd accumulated would constitute as three separate portions for me. (Probably two for the average size stomach, as I'm a snacker more so than a meal eater.) The bill arrived, to which our waitress said we could take our time. We did have to remind her of the crab cake, which was efficiently removed, bringing my half to a number I usually don't spend while dining out after tipping. But usually I'm not bringing home full second meals either, and I'm not gonna stuff a sweet server just because I'm used to diner pricing. Besides, I was feeling rich off my tax return, and was spoiling myself, which seems like an accurate word for the evening overall. It's too much for me to make a regular appearance, though I completely understand why they had to move locations to expand their dining room. It's good food. And for those of you who down two full cups of ice water (replenished without prompting, complete with a plastic straw and optional lemon) during your visit, there are single stall potties down the hall to relieve yourself so you can make room for more great food. read more

Came here for the first time with my roommate who was now on his second visit here. He enjoyed his experience both times (this time he got the cutlets, last time pasta with their red sauce). The ambience is nice and cozy but casual. It's clean and warm and inviting. There is a bar you can sit at with a high-top table or two near by and a separate dining area. Even one table has a nice fireplace above it. Customer service was great. Waitress was delightful! I ordered water and not to be weird, but the water was really good! The bread served before dinner was really good too. Nice and warm. I didn't love my dinner which was the turkey dinner. The broccoli seemed idk watery. The mashed potatoes were too mushy in consistency for me (my roommate liked his though), there was too much gravy which was a little salty for my taste. The only thing I really liked was the stuffing. I also tried some of the sauce. My roommate said it was so robust and flavorful, but not spicy and he loved it. I asked if it was sweet at all and he said no not a bit. Now shame on me and my American ways. But I like my red sauce a little sweet. He had some brought out for me to try anyway. It truly was robust and a good sauce just not for me because I like sweet ... so if you're looking for a good red sauce that's NOT sweet definitely come here! We were a large group and called ahead. No where is it posted or did the waitress inform us that a 25% gratuity will be added to each of our checks. Our group was Not happy. Those of us who paid by cash gave what we thought was right. I gave 20% myself. The waitress behind our backs had the gall to say those people didn't pay their full bill but whatever. I would have given 0% after that amount! Gratuity is a reward for good service, was it good? She was invisible after we were served. Some of us at the table received their food late.. I had a corned beef sandwich and the meat was overdone and crunchy. So service was poor, good mediocre. I know I won't be back., thank you Joey's place for a memorable dinner! read more

Ordered online (auto 18% tip for pick up and also $1 fee for "packaging"), when I showed up to pick up order, the "ticket" went to the bar and not the kitchen and the bartender never saw it. Clearly then had to scramble. We ordered a single salad w/no tomatoes and dressing on the side and 2 bowls of soup ($38). We received a salad WITH tomatoes and dressing ON it. As for the soup, we were given cups, not bowls and the temperature was tepid at best. Unfortunate, as we heard many good things about this place and we work close by. Was hoping we found a new lunch spot for good takeout. Dont mind paying the price for good food - this was expensive and sub par and no attention to detail of the order was adhered to. read more

Let me please start by saying what an amazing array of options Joeys has to offer on their menu! It's almost like a perfect metaphor for the weather we have here in Buffalo- it can be warm and sunny and have me going for burgers or grilled sandwiches and the next minute it's raining and snowing and has me craving one of their French onion or New England clam chowder soups with one of their tasty Italian dishes ! With it being peak winter time we went the Italian route and boy were we glad! My wife chose the spaghetti parm which was as big as a door mat covered with mozzarella cheese. The chicken was cooked perfectly crispy and would definitely recommend! I chose the cheese tortellini which was smothered in red sauce and to my great delight came with two meatballs! We loved the service that we experienced here as our waiter was so nice and very attentive! All in all I would highly reccomend checking out this nice little spot and will definitely be coming back!! I came here with family, ordered the 8 oz salmon which was great for the size. The top was very crusty though, very hard to cut through with a fork. I had to flip over the salmon to eat the fluffier part of it. The sweet potato fries were amazing, but the butter & brown sugar sauce it came with was very heavy. So heavy that I could not eat it with the fries. The side of corn was definitely not the right choice. The corn was unseasoned, not buttered or salted. Just tasted like it came straight out of a can. I tried adding salt but when I went to use the salt I had to bash it out, and even that didn't save the corn. Other then that the service was great, very nice waitress and I believe the manager or owner came around and asked if we needed anything. I also loved that I didn't have to ask for a refill on sweet tea! The ambiance was great. Very home school, nice lighting, and good comfortable seats. I'd say the tables are very spaced out. This place was amazing! The staff were very accommodating on a very busy Saturday night. I recommend reservations because We should of have had them, but we didn't know that they would be busy. My Rueben sandwich was awesome and the waitress recommended getting the sweet potato fries that were spectacular. I've heard a lot of great things about this place. My experience wasn't so great, unfortunately. Our server, Alexis, was great. But everything else was underwhelming. Atmosphere - it does look better than it ever did as there have been a few businesses in this place. But the ever changing lighting was driving me absolutely nuts. The paper placemats were just kind of cheesy too. For the prices they charge, I would expect some linens on the table. This is a restaurant, not a diner. Friendliness - great! One of my stars come from our server. She was great. Very attentive and friendly. Cleanliness - I was going to give a star for cleanliness. But, then I used the restroom. See the picture. Food - very underwhelming. I had high hopes. And it could be great. Our potato skins were burnt. And there were two cups of sour cream. My husbands was fine. However mine had a bad smell and tasted off. I ordered the Salmon with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Again. The salmon was over cooked and so dry I put my gravy on it from my potatoes. It was definitely not fresh. Probably frozen. The broccoli had no flavor. No seasoning at all. The mashed potatoes were good. The gravy was just jarred gravy. If I was assured changes were made I would go back. The service being great makes me want to try it. But I don't want to waste my money on it again. read more

Wow what a Surprise ! After an afternoon on the river we stopped for dinner. Nice looking bar with lots of wood. The dining room was large and the tables were reasonably far apart. We ordered the artichoke appetizer and the stuffed peppers. Both were delicious. The peppers (2) were stuffed with cheese and had some sausage as well. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The bacon was crispy and the bun was lightly toasted and hit with butter. How a burger should be! Bonus for me were the french fries. They are the old school no added crisper coating. Pure naked fried potato fries. As i took the 1st bite of the fries i already wished there were more on the plate. I might come back just to get the fries. I also tasted the giant serving of eggplant parm. Good sauce, nice flavor on eggplant, and they are not afraid to bury you in cheese. One more thing. On this particular Saturday evening I was dining with 2 mini-humans in tow that also liked the food but failed to provide any useful feedback for this review besides a thumbs up and a smile. Was looking for a good fish fry and am new to the area. After checking out a number of places online I chose Joey's Place because they offer the beer batter fish fry. Almost chose another place because was told it would be a 30 min. wait, but found that was for any place offering fish fries. It was worth the wait we found. We were lucky enough to get 3 seats at the bar after about 10 mins. and the drinks were very good. The place was packed and so busy, but the bartender got our drinks together in no time. We got our table before we could finish the drinks, all ordered fish fries and we left with full bellies and not much left to take home although servings were generous. The salads were fresh, and appeared to be made in-house and the fish was crispy outside and tender inside. Will definitely be back again to try other great offerings on the menu. read more
