The initial call was rough - though I suppose it was a little confusing as I was requesting services for two homes (mine and my parents). I regret that I paid for the memberships in hindsight. In any event, after navigating the request for maintenance services, my 3-year-old outdoor unit had a wall of ice inside the unit a week before the maintenance appointment. Luckily, they were able to send a tech, who diagnosed the issue, and ordered the part (which I paid in full in advance. lesson: don't do that.) I asked about the maintenance part and perhaps he didn't hear me, so the inspection wasn't done (there's more to this but I am going to pretend the convo didn't happen). I justified it as, they had to come back since the unit wasn't working properly. I did ask, though, with the coming cold front, what should I do about heat (the ice was just going to form again since it was the defroster panel that broke). I was given instructions (use emerg heat) so all was good....so far. Fast forward a few days, temperatures dipping below 25. I came home from work to a very cold house. I had the setting on the low side so I upped the heat a few degrees. I waited. The fan didn't turn on like it normally does. I waited another 20 min and, nope, no heat. Called emergency services at 6:30 pm. Called them at 7:30. Called them until 11:00 pm - each time I was told the techs were told that this was kind of urgent. Nothing. Not even an acknowledgement. Luckily being steaming mad was keeping me warm. That and a small electric heater. My last message was to have a manager call me in the morning. I don't think I would have ever heard back had I not specifically requested a call. Next morning, a manager called; I was still mad but she assured me that someone would be out and she would check on the status of the defroster board (it had been over a week since it was ordered and no updates). A tech did come out (he was great) and, miraculously, the panel had just reached their warehouse and they could install it the same day. Really? Fine. Despite finally having heat, after considering the poor customer service (not the tech - again, great), I decided I would keep my membership but since my parents' house was not yet serviced, break ties for that property. They were happy to cancel the membership and cancel the appointment BUT no membership refund. Mind you, I was only a "member" for about 3 weeks if that. Unbelievable. Poor service and a useless membership. Lesson learned. I cannot express any more clearly how unimpressive this company is and how much I don't recommend them. read more

Be Careful if you call this company for a Service Call. They might try to Sell, Sell, Sell. Hard Sell. Really Hard Sell. That's how they did me a few months ago. Several years ago, the plumber was good for a minor issue, so that's why I called this company for HVAC issue. Drain line on HVAC unit was backed up. Called to unclog blockage. HVAC tech was good; he blew nitrogen through & cut a pipe. After I paid, he said I needed a new HVAC unit. I asked a couple questions any consumer with two brain cells would ask. He said he couldn't answer, someone would contact me. Couple hours later a project manager shows up. Hello Advanced Towing. I got sucked in, but at the time, I had no reason not to trust them. It's been nothing but frustration, malfunctioning HVAC unit, breakers blown out in electrical panel TWICE, electrical power out in some areas of condo, money spent, more money spent. Yes, I did call as problems came up after the install. They came but didn't resolve anything. Main problem, they put in a dual-heater HVAC unit (60 amps) that is way too big for my tiny condo. My electrical panel only has 30 amps for the HVAC unit. They should have gotten me a one-heater, 10kw, 20 amp unit. The dual-heater, 60 amps is meant for a big house. They unplugged one heater strip, but the new HVAC unit doesn't function properly. And the drain line on HVAC unit backed up four months after installation. So I could have still had the old HVAC, and taken my time to do my due diligence in getting a new one. I found out recently it's a basement pipe causing the backup in drain line. I could have waited weeks or months to get the correct HVAC unit. But No, their North Star is to Sell, Sell, Sell, and Sell quickly. Whatever they had on hand, just sell the dumb broad what they had. In retrospect, I should have firmly cut them loose the first time they came to install. The new HVAC unit didn't fit!! What happened to measure twice, cut once??!? But I am forgiving, and I know everybody makes mistakes. Then the second install attempt a couple weeks later, Boom! Breakers get tripped, Twice! Live and Learn. If I had known about their predatory business tactics back when I first called for HVAC service, I would have never considered doing further business with them. When lack of scruples and competency, or both, are exposed, I can no longer do business with them. Just Be Careful. Do your research. $8K - $9K is the average price range for a new Magic Pak install if you go with an honest, reputable HVAC company. $13K is obscene, especially if it's not the right unit for you. My neighbor had a new HVAC unit installed last year and his was done properly. Prep work was done, electrical panel checked. He has No problems, no power outages, and reasonably priced. Caveat Emptor with this company. read more

This place is a complete ripoff, and a waste of your time. STAY AWAY. I made an appointment for a very simple job: replace an existing garbage disposal. I had the new unit myself, and the tech admitted to me that the job would take 30-60 minutes to accomplish. When I made the appointment, I specifically asked for their standard price for replacing a garbage disposal. The woman said the "managers were busy", which I now assume was probably a lie since the company clearly has a written schedule for this job that they could have easily shared. The appointment remained, and the tech showed up at my house and said this 30-60 minute job would cost... over $800. The kicker here is that they charged me $60 to show up at my house and try to rip me off. Even though I didn't want their service, they charged to have the tech come out and deliver this ridiculous estimate. I would assume they prey upon homeowners that don't have a proper understanding of basic economics and will just pay the bill no matter what it is since the tech is already there and they took time out of their day to meet them. Awful company, tried to scam me. The guy came here and took a look, tried to charge me $1600 for a single part replacement. He said it is not worth it so insist me to replace the whole furnace and AC, which would easily cost over $10k. I let him go and did my own research. I found the broken part and purchased a similar unit for $269 (a blow motor), replaced it and now my AC is running again. Especially this technician made me feel really uncomfortable. As soon as he arrived, he told me that my furnace and AC were very old and full of problems. He even started fiddling with another completely unrelated AC unit for quite a while, then told me that one also had all sorts of issues. Between the lines, it was clear he was just trying to get me to replace everything so they could make more money. I told him the other unit had no problems. He said he didn't know, so I went and turned the switch on--only to find the unit wasn't running at the time. I told him it had been working just fine earlier. Then he said, "oh yeah? so why isn't it running?" For a moment, I even wondered if he had sabotaged something while I wasn't looking... Thankfully, he was just being a jerk with his words and didn't actually do anything. If he had done something, this wouldn't just be a one-star review situation. Yes, also, Oh, and one more thing. When it came time to charge me, he asked for $99. But I found them through a promotion that clearly states new customers only pay $59. He made no effort to mention that. The technician, Jacob George, was knowledgeable, efficient, informative, and very personable, the latter of which is not usually the case with most of the people who show up to work in your home. The task was completed without any unusual delays, and there was nothing to clean up or handle when all was said and done. I'm a little out of the loop for pricing, so I can't speak to that aspect. Having already written a review of plumbing service 1/16/2026 I find the need to once again write further about the excessive costs this company charges. This time we utilized our first of 2 annual HVAC service inspections on 1/30/2026. Only positive note is that I was sent a picture of what the Technician looks like and he came in marked truck, in uniform and with shoe protectors. The HVAC air filter was due for replacement and fortunately I had purchased one on my own and had it at the ready. Next the humidifier had to be checked and the technician Behnam Shoaei told me the "water panel" needed replacement. He said he had one on his truck and due to fact we had Service Contract it would be discounted to $182. I had no clue about this panel and so agreed to purchase it as he had the whole unit opened up and needed to get the replacement done. When he was done I noted the box which the new panel came in and took a picture. After he left I did an on-line search and found I could buy (and I did) a 2-pack of the exact same brand water panel from Amazon for $32 !!! Thus....overcharged again to the tune of $166. This is pure price gouging! We will definitely not use this company again beyond finishing out our Service Contract. I called to have my garbage disposal unit replaced, as it was leaking at the bottom. I took a picture of the unit which showed the make and the part number, so I asked if I could send it so they can check to see if they had the compatible unit in stock. The rep told me they don't need it as the technician would have to visit to diagnose for which the charge is $79. If the estimate then given is accepted, they would waive the fee. The plumber showed up on time and he took a look. I said that I researched the replacement garbage disposal online and the cost was between $100 to $200. He said it's about $150 usually. No surprises there. He then said that the issue may be whether I would accept the estimate. After punching something into his iPad, he quoted the work including the part at $810. He readily admitted that the work would only take about 30 minutes at most. So excluding the part, this company wanted $660 for a half an hour of work!! My jaw just dropped. He stated that other big companies like My Plumber and F.H. Furr cost would be comparable. I didn't call other companies, so I can't confirm that. Anyway, I told him that there was no way I would accept that estimate. He admitted the estimate was high but that it included warranty on the work and part with no further cost for any future visits. I still wasn't convinced. He then told me that he has a "friend" who could do the work for a lot less, but that wouldn't include any guarantee. This obviously was professionally less than honest. I told him so. The bottom line is that I'm out of $79 as that was the agreed on from the initial phone call. I'm thinking that the outlandish estimates are worth it if one or two is accepted for every 10 calls made, since the company gets $79 for every visit where no actual work is done. Replacing a faulty garbage disposal is DIY work for many homeowners. I didn't want the hassle, so I was willing to accept an estimate as high as $400 to $500. $810 is just plain rip off. If this is the case for other big companies, avoid all of them. Look for small outfits or handyman service. Order the replacement yourself. This is the route I'm taking. And the cost of this lesson for me was $79 and a big shock. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They overcharge. They gave me a 6 year warranty and would not allow me to use the warranty. I paid over $4,000 for a brand new water heater in 2001. They made up a bunch of reasons why I could not use it. Such as the outside temperature "risen to 70 degrees in the last few days." My sensor went bad, they replaced it 3 years ago, this should be covered under warranty. Instead, they charged me $450 to replace the vapor sensor. I asked for an itemized receipt, again they refused. After calling multiple days the owner, Johnny, finally answered. He said his job is worth that much money. The worker was polite. That is the only positive thing I have to say. I have a heat pump and a split gas/AC unit. He seemed to hardly have looked at the heat pump, saying it was only one year old and thus was fine. When I asked him about the UV light, he said it was not working, but that he did not know much about UV lights. When it was plugged in, it worked fine. He showed me some photos of the inside of the gas heater, said it had cracks and was a threat to my health. When I pointed out that I have three CO2 detectors in my house, he said that they only monitor levels above 200 parts per million. He asked if I wanted to have somebody contact me about repairing my heater or replacing it. I declined. I called the CO2 detector firm. The detector closest to the furnace detects gas leaks and CO2 over 50 parts per million. One of the others was also 50 parts per million and the other 70. Clearly he had been trained to try and scare me into purchasing unnecessary repairs or replacement. The visit was a complete waste of money. read more

Would love to tell you about their AC service, but never got to that point. I booked the appointment last week--specifically noted to the person who answered the call that they would need a big ladder to get to the unit on the roof. Sat around and waited for the technician to show up today. Called their number twice today--once to make sure the technician had the right number to let know when he was on the way. Second time to ask if they had a rough ETA. Never got a call back about the second question, but at 3:15PM did get a call telling me that no ladder was available so they weren't coming today and it would be $350+ to bring a tall enough ladder on a different day. So the company responds with a form letter supposedly from the owner but was posted by someone named Trevor. Now if that isn't enough of a lie then perhaps a closer look at the evidence will convince you not to even think of using any of their services. . The picture with the braided cable and Dahl ball valve shows the new work done along with a buggered up wall which was also done by them. Not really a big deal since I've got to paint anyway but it would've been nicer if I didn't have to deal with that at all. John C Flood charged $410.13 for just that work. There's no breakdown of labor or material charges, a predatory practice. At SupplyHouse.com the materials would've cost $12.50 for the valve and hose. . Photo copy of the receipt shows they charged me for 5' of copper pipe, less than 3' was used. You can't trust them. John C Flood charged me $478.37 to replace the piping. . They charged me $78.13 for the Sharkbite connectors, I found them for a maximum of $37 at Supplyhouse.com, another example of the way they'll gouge their customers. . Johnny Thomas, their plumbing supervisor, called me to explain the charges. He said they have to charge that much because they have to pay the person to answer the phone. He also explained that they have to have liability insurance. Then he told me they also have to buy specialized tools. Quite a bit to scrape off my boots. . Not really sure what I paid for??? The technician was at our house for about 15-20 min. They blew out a line according to my receipt, didn't use any new parts, and I got charged over $300! When I setup the appointment customer service told me it $99 for the visit yet it would be waived if we went with their service. What did I just pay for? I feel ripped off...happy to pay the service fee and get my $300 back! The technicians response was that the prices have gone up...but again, prices for what? The serviceman, Cesar Tinoco, came promptly, took a while but got my a/c working fine, was polite, and even helped me by doing this old lady clean up a mess. The price was perfectly reasonable, considering the amount of work he put in. I also asked about getting a new thermostat, and he suggested that I see if my old one is working right, to consider it then, but thought it may work fine now. Saved me lots of money. I had an absolutely terrible experience with John C. Flood installing a new heat pump system and thermostat at my home in Alexandria, VA. I will never use John C Flood for any future service, let all my friends/family know about their terrible service, and hope anyone reading this review avoids them like the plague. TLDR - Incompetent, Disrespectful, Dishonest, Unprofessional, Crude, Unreliable, Greedy. There were several issues with the installation, customer service, and urgency after causing water leaks: 1) They installed the indoor AC unit incorrectly - the AC unit's excess water drainage pipe was titled the wrong way (seems a basic thing for a so-called expert to get right) and my bedroom ceiling started leaking excess water from the AC within 12 hours of installation. See attached photos of water leak damage. Had to turn off the AC the next day and wait another 48 hours before they came back to reinstall the indoor unit correctly. 2) The professionalism of the installer (that installed it wrong, causing water leaks) was atrocious. They left the crawl space and gap between the crawl space and wall filthy and I had to pick up all their trash afterwards. See attached photos of garbage they left behind - gatorade bottles, lunch wrappers, plastic wrapping of equipment. The wall and carpet has grease marks and streaks from the installation. No courtesy to bin their trash, wipe off marks, or vacuum carpet. 3) The clean up after the water leaks - ceiling drywall repair and repainting took 2 weeks to complete. There were a couple of appointments that John C Flood reps didn't even show up for. I had to be the person calling their office asking where their technicians were. I would have thought that they would do everything in their power to make it right. I paid $10k for the job. They took the money up front. Caused water damage to my ceiling and then took 2 weeks to clean up their mess. Ridiculous! 4) I paid for a 2-ton heat pump, but they installed a 1.5-ton system. They ended up asking me to pay more than what was signed in the contract because they hadn't estimated the correct installation equipment. Not my problem if the John C Flood sales person can't accurately assess the equipment needed for a job. I am relying on them as experts. You shouldn't ask the customer to pay extra after the contract has been signed. Also, I ended up paying more for the overall job even though they installed a smaller heat pump. 5) When I asked the installer for an updated contract and that I didn't want to pay the increased amount until I received the updated contract, he threatened to go back inside and remove the entire unit. Are you serious? His exact words were - "I'd be glad to go back upstairs and remove the entire unit. How'd you like that?" All this for $150. How greedy can you be? read more
