My daughter went to JOHN STARKS KIA to purchase a car and they told her she would have to leave a $500 deposit. The contract clearly states the deposit is refundable. When the car came in she decided to get another car and now they are not refunding her money even though the agreement says the deposit is refundable. I spoke to the manager "Michael Imperiale" who was not a very nice person. He first said he might refund and then said he would not refund her $500. My daughter is a NYC school teacher who works very hard for her money and now she will have to take time off work to go to small claims court. She also filed a dispute with the credit card company. Run, don't walk- in the opposite direction. Spent a couple days contacting every dealer in the tristate looking for my new vehicle. This John Starks dealer had the one I was looking for and wanted to make the deal. I told him some offers I had heard at the local places by me and the sales guy Colin had to speak to his manager. He texted me that he got the deal done. To make the price where I was comfortable, the interest needed to be 6%. I put a deposit down and filled out the credit application. They ran my credit, confirmed it was excellent then ghosted me for a day. After reaching back out to them they told me the lowest rate is 8%. This significantly increases the monthly payment. The sales guy Colin and his GM knew this at the time but said what they could to keep me happy and keep me from going to another dealer. The GM just called me to say there was no way 6% was ever going to happen. They hit my credit for no reason at all. It takes 2 years to fall off your report. This dealer is the exact reason why all car salesmen have the reputation they do. I'm sure the manager or someone will reply to this review and make up some story about how I am at fault, but I urge you to look elsewhere. read more

*****Update****** After my initial review which is written below I was contacted by Chris who I believe informed me was the manager for the dealership. I was also contacted by Damian who is I believe the regional manager and he has been in contact with me thru these days to see how to better the customer experience for these dealerships because as he and I realized, there have been numerous negative reviews. Ill update this more when I finish my dealings with him. For now I will focus on my plates and how Chris took charge of that and helped. He was very professional and even though we agreed to disagree on what the price I got for the vehicle and what was promised were two different things we left that matter as is. What he did focus on was my plates and registration, he and I agreed that it was not acceptable when someone says they will call you back to follow up and they dont. He said he would look into my plates and would call me back and he did, even just to let me know he was still working on it. I let him know that I appreciated it and that I was very reasonable and did not expect things to happen right away, but in a reasonable time and he agreed. He kept in contact with me and by the end of the week he informed me that I should have the plates by the end of the following week. I informed him that the temporary plates were expiring prior to that and he told me that if I got any ticket for it that he would take care of it, Again he kept in constant contact with me while the plates came and by Thursday he called to let me know he had them and that he would overnight them to me so I could have them the following day. The plates arrived the next day as promised. Chris did exactly as he promised and kept in touch throughout so I would like to thank him on that aspect. I wish things would have been different and that this kind of service was what I would have received in the first place and then I think my experience with the purchase of the vehicle at this dealership would have been much more pleasant. All I have stated on this review has been based on the facts of my experience and while I cant go back and change my original experience I can however update and inform you of my experience of getting my plates taken care of. I recently bought a new Kia Sportage from this dealership and really regret it and would not recommend them for anyone looking for a car. Tired of dealing with lying dealers they told me they would beat another dealership's out the door price and I only went to them because they had the color my fiancee wanted. When I got there it was all bullshit and the price they "beat" was the price without the taxes, in other words they didnt beat the out the door price, everyone knows what out the door price means! By that time I was tired, having to drive out to them and having two little kids at home I just gave in and let them take advantage of the situation! They even have a" $500" off any new vehicle when you go to their website that they do not even honor! Bunch of liars! The only one who seemed to try to help was the one who sold me the car (Emily) But she was quickly overwritten by others when she asked for me about honoring the $500 discount advertised online! At the end I was just worn out and needed to get home to my kids! Yes I could have walked away, but I also felt like I needed to get the vehicle so my fiancee had a way to take my kids to school which was starting in 2 days. I thought I was done dealing with them after the sale and good riddance but now I have to still deal with them because I still have not received my registration or plates and the temporary tags they issued me have expired! So in closing, avoid this dealership at all costs or at least have the deal in writing prior to wasting your time by going there. Hindsight is 20/20 and thats what I should have done. But if you have time and want to stick it to them like they would to you, go there and and have them do all the work and papers and then at the end just change it on them and walk out if they dont like it. See how they feel about wasting their time and getting screwed. read more

(he may or may not exist, but his name doesn't correspond to the name on his voicemail) posted, as he always, inevitably posts, about how sorry he was to hear about my awful experience, please call to discuss, we want to make it right ... blah, blah, blah. So I called. I won't leave you in suspense as to whether he ever returned my call: he did not. He did not make it right. He did not TRY to make it right. He just posted his standard cut-and-paste response to every negative review and then washed his hands of the entire matter. This is a terrible place. Steer clear. If your insurance tells you you need to have your Kia serviced by a "certified Kia mechanic", find a different one, because these clowns don't know what they're doing, plus they will steal every item of value from inside your car, then claim "we didn't do it." And they won't properly repair your car either. Hmm ... I wonder whether "Damian C." will reply with another note about calling him to make things right? Or if Starks Kia just has a bot set up that triggers that reply every time it gets notice of a negative review? Either way: go somewhere, anywhere, else for all your car needs. read more

Call again next day and got someone on The phone was given an answer " I have someone in a front of me I'll call you back". That never happened. Called again few days later and spoke to someone again and was given the same line "have someone in a front of me I'll call you back" and then they decided text with me to set an appointment, clearly I am writing the review as it's been 2 weeks and I still can't get through appointment. Am not used to put reviews, but my horrible and awful experience with this dealership forced me to do so. On May 8th I went to the dealership to buy a kia sportage upon their offer online which was msrp: $35000, the sales person told me the market value goes up bla bla so I told him ok I can do $36000 and I can buy it in the same day, so the manager started to go up again to $38000, and we start Negotiate until we reach deal of $36500 So I was ok . I paid the down payment and I was ready to finance the rest with the sales manager, my credit score was 820 and we still got a very high APR with %9.8 and we were ok with it even if it is too high. She told us the monthly rate will be 695 and we agree . In the middle of the conversation she told us that the warranty wouldn't cover the commercial use cars, which I wasn't told before I buy the car and later I found it is a lie and that was the first lie . The warranty covers commercial uses vehicle with limited time. She offered us an extra warranty and she said it would only be $20 extra on the month payment. So we agreed and we found out the was the second lie. After we signed all paperwork with good intentions, I asked to get a copy of the contract like any business you buy something and walk out with a contract or receipt in your hand , but they told me they will send it by email . So I was ok still dealing with good intentions . I waited one, two day and kept calling to get the call copy and finally they send it by email . To found out that the Car price went up from 36500 to $37342 and the warranty is $50 extra monthly instead of $20 so I went crazy and I called her . She totally ignored me and it ends up going to the dealership and see her . She was very very rude and she knows exactly what I was about to complain about . I asked her about the warranty she said she has my signature, I confronted her with the number she told us about , she denied in a very bad way. So I ended up asking to cancel what so called premium warranty, she said she can't cancel it before three months, I don't know why and how!!! I kept sending her emails when I found out that there are no kia extended warranty when I called them. I sent her emails asking to cancel it or to even tell me the name of the warranty company and she ignored all my emails. Sent email to the manager, he said he will follow up after three days I got an email from him saying he no longer works for the dealership. I realized that this dealership is unreliable and not professional so I ended up to file a complaint with the consumer affairs and provided them with all evidence and emails. Be aware if you go to this business, which I don't recommend . Buyers/Leasers Beware- David was kind until I changed my mind on financing a Kia Telluride from Starks Kia. After placing a refundable deposit down on a Telluride, I was offered a higher trim Palisade with a lower interest rate from another dealer. I immediately called David to inform him and he quickly got nasty with me and told me that my deposit is nonrefundable because they had to get the SUV from another lot. Never was I informed, nor asked to sign documentation stating that my deposit would be non-refundable. I tried speaking with the manager, Michael, who was just as nasty. Luckily, because of the documentation I have, I will end up being refunded through our credit card company and/or smalls claim court. I do not recommend this dealership to anyone and hope this review saves another customer from having to deal with the headache they have caused. Attached is proof that my deposit was in fact refundable. Both David and Michael are being petty because I made a decision with a dealership that is giving me a better deal. I am glad I made my decision to go elsewhere after seeing the what kind of people are working for Starks Kia. Had a horrific experience dealing with the Manager, Michael, at my lease turn-in appointment. I had leased my Kia from another location but was told (and it says on Kia's website) that the cars can be turned in to any Kia location with an appt. Michael approached my wife and I with an extremely abrasive and condescending attitude saying I did not have an appt, they have no room in their lot, he doesn't care, and I need to go to the Kia I leased the car from. I proceeded to show him call logs of having an appt. He left and the nice sales guy proceeded to assist me providing me with paperwork and he removed the license plates. Then Michael hostilely and aggressively beelined to me saying it's not his car and he will leave it on the street to be towed at my expense, despite the fact the plates were removed by them at this point. The sales guy confirmed they would find somewhere to put my car. Michael left and then I filled out and signed more paperwork and turned in the keys. Then Michael came back and wrote on a paper that if the car is towed or ticketed it is my responsibility to pay and asked me to sign it. This is despite the fact the plates were removed, keys turned in, and lease turn-in forms signed by this point. I refused and he told me to call Kia Finance. At this point the sales guy completed my paperwork and told me I was fine despite the threatening and antagonistic threats from Michael. Kia Finance logged my complaint, confirmed I could turn in the car at any Kia location, and after signing paperwork and turning in the keys that Michael could not do what he did. This is now being investigated by Kia. Michael blatantly lied and is as callous an individual as I've ever dealt with...Additionally, in just over 2 years, my new Kia Sorento needed a transmission replacement (loaner cars are not provided), which is a common problem, but that's another issue. read more

This was my first time being in a dealership so I unintentionally bought a service contract assuming it was the additional cost of getting the title, registration, insurance and all other dealer fees associated with getting a new car. That's on me for not reading what I was signing. And trusting Financial Manager Vadim Mulladzhanov words that the extra thousands of dollars that I had to pay was necessary to close the deal. I read my lease agreement and saw that the service contract was cancelable at a prorated cost. I went into the dealership to cancel it and met with Vadim again to cancel the service contract. He tells me he remembers me and I DON'T have a service contract without even looking me up. I had to bring up the fact that I called Kia Finance and their own Service Center to verify that I indeed had a Service Contract for him to go look it up. He then tries to tell me some non-sense that my credit score was too low. That's why I HAD to have a service contract. I then had to again point out in my lease agreement that this was an OPTIONAL warranty and not needed to sign the deal. After that me makes me sign some random paper that says nothing about cancelling the contract, just my signature and the date. I ask for something more official stating that I'm canceling the contract at the right date so, I get my full refund. He then starts to get an attitude saying "I said I was gonna do it and I'm gonna do it". I didn't trust him because multiple times in our interactions he blatantly lied to my face. He then hands me some random piece of paper on his desk with a pen and says "Here write out whatever you need to write to make it official". I had to ask him to print something out for me because that was extremely unprofessional. After that he printed out the cancellation form and both of us signed he made a snarky remark saying "Are we done now?" If you choose to buy or lease a car here and his name is Vadim Mulladzhanov. Be prepared to scrutinize your contract to a T because he will tell you ABSOLUTELY anything to make an extra buck. read more

I'll start at the beginning. I leased my current vehicle from them in '22 right after they first opened for business. Was extremely happy and promised to return later that year when my other lease was ending. So I did as promised, only to find they were subscribing to the shady business practice of jacking up MSRP's to take advantage of people due to the pandemic. So I went to another manufacturer. Fast forward to this October, when I received a phone call from some on at the dealership offering to trade in my '22 for a '25 for the same monthly payment. (I still have the voicemail as proof.) Despite having a sour taste in my mouth from the issue with the marking up sticker price, when the representative reached out again I answered and spoke with him. He again reiterated the offer of upgrading to new model for the same monthly I have now. I asked what's the fine print, because I'm not naive enough to think I walk in, pay taxes and fees, give you my keys and ride off into the sunset. He assured me that was the case but would have a sales rep follow up with me. That call took place on Oct. 7th. Yesterday, 10/24, I was cleaning up old voicemails when I came across his original message. It dawned on me I never got that follow up. So stupid me, initiated a chat online which prompted a phone call from a salesma. I went through the whole thing with him, including my lousy experience in '22. He asked me what I was looking for, etc. Took my current vehicle VIN and mileage to do some preliminary ball parking for trade value etc. Since it was late in the day he asked would it be ok if he called me back today with the information. I agreed, said yes t was no problem. Well, guess what. Today has come and gone and NO FOLLOW UP again! So fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I have never left a Yelp review in my life. I believe mistakes happen and to leave a bad review of a business based on a mistake made in a specific case is unfair. However my horrible experience here was not due to a mistake, but an overall culture of shady business practices. The salesman we dealt with made an honest effort to show me several different models that I may be interested in, however I made it clear I was interested in the Telluride. We discussed what I currently pay for a lease, and he warned me that the Telluride would probably be at least double what I pay now. Fine, that is reasonable and I appreciated the honesty. However once we sat down to talk numbers, it was way over triple then that cost. The reason is they are charging an insane $7,000 markup ABOVE msrp. I am in sales as well and definitely understand supply and demand, but this is completely taking advantage of a bad situation. They also wanted us to pay for about 85% of the value of the car (based on MSRP) over a 3 year lease. We respectfully got up knowing our minds were too far apart on a number to come to a deal, when the salesman called his general manager over. He played nice, and we told him where our heads were at numbers wise. They were shocked, and could not see how a deal like that would ever be possible. Once again we turned around to leave, and as we were leaving I heard the general manager scold his salesman for wasting their time by entertaining us as possible clients. Here is the thing, if they weren't trying to take advantage of their customers and charging absurd mark ups, no ones time would have been wasted and for an honest price I would have made a move on a car that day. Instead they play their game, and then insult the customers behind their backs when we refuse to play along. John Starks Kia should be ashamed of their business practices. Maybe 6 months or a year ago this all would have been more acceptable, but let's get real. The shortage is not what it once was, the market is becoming more stable, and cars are out there. Save yourself the time and take the ride over to South Shore Kia. They are absolute professionals over there and I am now driving my new Kia Telluride at the price John Starks Kia could not even begin to wrap their heads around. read more

I was happy with the price quoted but my daughter did not like the color available, and so they were crossed off of our list. I received a phone call from the GM Jack Schwartz. He offered us the color we didn't want for a very reasonable price under these crazy market conditions where dealers are trying to charge thousands over msrp. Upon hearing his offer, I convinced my daughter that colors don't matter so much and we took delivery two days later. Jack promised no fees or surprises, and they came through. We paid the agreed upon price plus taxes and dmv fees and that was it.
