Stopped by for a beer and a late lunch. The Harpoon IPA was pretty good. Sausage rolls were OK. Beers were mostly USA labels, a couple of Irish beers on tap. Typical Midtown bar. Nothing special to set it apart. They open early for breakfast in case you want a lager with your bacon and eggs. read more

This was my go-to for meeting friends passing through Penn Station/Midtown, not a great bar but inoffensive in a part of town I avoid. Tonight, however, I came in see Fox News on the TV. They were showing a segment about an African-American barber while the all-white studio panel made mocking comments. This crap doesn't drive me to drink, it drives me to another bar. Never again. Visiting NYC from FL, we found this gem of a restaurant! Warm and cozy, definitely a local hang out. Our server Gloria was amazing! Very sweet and knowledgeable of the menu. She accommodated all of our requests and remembered all of our likes our second night dining here. We started with the mussels and chorizo app & also the clams fra diablo - both super fresh and delicious! For entrees, we had the Turkey and Brie burger and a special of the night - halibut over perfectly cooked fettuccine accompanied with shrimp and mussels in a light tomato broth. John Sullivan's is a decent place to go. The food is just okay. Nothing really exceptional. We had the poutine, and that was alright. My burger was also alright - pretty standard. The drinks we had during happy hour, so it was pretty great. Our waitress kind of changed shifts, but didn't tell us anything, and we finally had a new waitress. I mean its standard practice to warn your table that it will be someone else serving you now. But the service was good, otherwise. The staff was pleasant enough. It is convenient to go here, its clean, and fairly new. They also have lunch specials, so its not bad if you work around here. read more

Stopped in while waiting for friends train at Penn Station and was not disappointed. The place was very clean and had a nice atmosphere. Our waitress was a delight and we learned after she left that it was her first shift! My party started with the nachos and then had various sandwiches (we came between lunch and dinner time). The sauce covered the noodles perfectly and used proper ground beef rather than hamburger. My wife had the penne ala vodka. It was good but she found that the pappardelle had more flavor. I've been especially impressed by the bar staff's kind, welcoming demeanor with tourists. The Irish male bartenders are nice (and handsome!), as are the ladies and AWESOME, funny daytime hostess. Went here before a concert at MSG. The place was packed but they were able to seat us within 10 mins. I had the triple B burger, it was juicy and good. We were in and out in a little over an hour. Not bad. Only issue is that it's a small place, even with the upstairs, they pack people in like sardines. read more

Not only do they have some killer penne ala vodka on their lunch special, but the waitress Eimer was very accommodating to my friends dietary needs and recommended a bunch of meals she would be able to eat. My group of friends and I came here for lunch on Saturday afternoon having done no research on this restaurant beforehand, and we were not disappointed! We split a few different appetizers and sandwiches, and everything was super tasty and came out very quickly for a crowded restaurant. Our waitress was incredibly friendly, and answered all of our questions expertly, and the drink specials were also delicious. My two complaints would be that the place was very dimly lit for it being 12 pm, and the portions of the appetizers were probably the smallest I've ever seen. Stopped in here for a work related retirement party. Servers were quick to refill cocktail hour serving platters. Dinner was buffet style and the food was tasty. Bartenders were attentive and poured a nice drink. They even have a cigar lounge for you cigar smokers. No complaints. read more
