1 Star - Free Was Still Too Expensive We came to Johnny Carino's because I received a mail promotion for a free entrée. After this experience, I completely understand why they have to give food away. The only good thing about this entire meal was the free bread. That was it. My husband ordered the lasagna with Alfredo, and I had the angel hair pasta with chicken and artichokes. We waited through the salads hoping the entrées would redeem the meal--but they were completely inedible. We couldn't take more than one bite. The food looked and tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for at least a day. The nachos were somehow even worse. Fake cheese, canned chicken, and a random pile of jalapeños, banana peppers, and olives. Not Italian. Not nachos. Just disgusting. Even the salads were bad. I've had better bagged salads from Sam's Club. We told the server the food was unacceptable and asked to speak with a manager. The manager never came out. My entrée was comped (the other was already free), but we still had to pay for the terrible nachos we barely touched. Save your money, save your appetite. The free bread isn't worth it. read more

A very strange restaurant, though not necessarily bad, just weird. The ambience is perplexing: tall ceilings and lighting from a traditional Italian restaurant with worn red booths and tables from a 1990's pizza joint. Combined with classic Christmas music (we went in early December) and horrific culinary abominations (like Italian Nachos), the whole restaurant had a kind of animatronic dystopian vibe, like some kind of weird Chuck E Cheese for adults or something. It feels like being inside someone else's mildly distressing fever dream. The food itself is passable, even surprisingly consistent, as one dish I ordered now and 10 years ago was virtually identical to my recollection (Chicken Marsala). Same with the Tiramisu which looks and tastes like it came from a Star Trek replicator in a distinctly "not bad" way. The predictability and consistency of the food could be a massive strength, if properly leveraged against reasonable pricing. More to come on that later. I had some "bag" promo that got me a free "Italian Nachos," half-lasagna, and "ribeye pieces" on top of alfredo. The promo itself was amazing, value wise. The Italian Nachos were tasty but also made me have an existential crisis, each bite escalating further and further into "How did we get here?" and that's with the very small size (a tiny saucer). I saw another couple order the full size which was a mountain version; I'm not sure if they survived the night or descended into Lovecraftian madness. The "ribeye" pieces were not really identifiable as ribeye, in so far as any "real" restaurant would represent ribeye, but they were tasty. The alfredo was okay, I left most of it on the plate. The lasagna itself was delicious, but in a Chef-Boyardee-adjacent way, which would be totally acceptable if the prices weren't preposterous. Even with my half of the meal being free, the total was ~$60 with tip. In summary, I believe this restaurant has no feasible demographic besides residual loyalists from decades ago, most of which have probably aged out of grotesquely overpriced low/mid-tier Italian food. The food itself appears to target the young/casual/cheap demographic, yet the pricing appears to target the upper echelons of society that would turn their nose up at this food. To me it seems like a doomed business model, but alas I'm just a guy. YMMV. read more

We ordered the Spaghetti and Artichokes, Eggplant Parmesan, and The Shrimp Scampi Pasta. Two of us had the house salads and one had the Cesar salad. We also had the stuffed mushroom. We loved everything. Be forewarned though, stuffed mushrooms were bit heavy on the basil leaves, but you can remove them if you don't like them. Our waiter Grayson was awesome. Tried Carino's for the first time in years today. The two stars are for the bread that had just come out of the oven and the salad which we enjoyed. Our entrees were so bad they were nearly inedible. I ordered the chicken and shrimp pasta. The sauce was horrible. The pasta tasted institutional. Worse than Olive Garden. Husband got the chicken parm festival but it came out as only a chicken parm. We ordered the fettuccine alfredo and the sauce tasted like jarred sauce. We also ordered another pasta dish that was very cheesy and did not taste remotely Italian at all. The best part of the meal was the bread. We did not finish the pasta and took home the alfredo dish for our kids who love fettuccine. When I reheated it for them the next day, the sauce was obviously jarred because everyone knows what real fettuccine alfredo sauce looks like when it is reheated. In our are Corinos did a marketing campaign. They mailed bread sacks for a free meal; unlimited salad or Italian nachos with steak stripe on fettuccine pasta and lasagna and bread. Very clever with min purchase $5. I decided to try Corinos again because I didn't enjoy it in the past. I asked if I could have my steak rare (yes) came out well done. The Alfredo? What Alfredo? It was a watered mess. The lasagna...tasty with the Italian sausage but the puniest thin 3 layer I've ever seen. All of us ordered the Sunday dinner special which was unlimited bread, salad and any two types of noodles with a choice of any three red sauces. I ordered the regular meat sauce and the spicy meat sauce. The rest of the family ordered some type of pasta with red sauce. Everyone at the table agreed the marinara was nasty with very little flavor. The person who I am assuming as the manager never stopped by our table and asked if everything was ok. Food is just ok at best. I would pick Olive Garden next time over this place. The service was extremely slow, and the prices are high for what you're getting. The parm chicken was breaded chicken (probably frozen) with a square slice of fake mozz melted on it and red sauce. I wish I would have taken pics of the food. We went yesterday and had a party of 7. It was about a 45 minute wait which was perfect because all of our party wouldn't be there until then. When we first pulled in the parking lot it was pretty vacant and I was thinking dang this can't be a good sign. But during our wait we saw several large parties leave the restaurant and several more parties arrive. We were relieved to get there just before the rush! Anywho it was a nice atmosphere inside. We had a spacious table. Our server was a sweet young lady. When I walked about the $15.99 deal because it was not advertised anywhere! She said yes they are doing the special. She kind of whispered it like the special is a secret menu time or something. I asked about the 39 cent wings and she informed me that was not happening, I just saw it on the tv yesterday but I didn't press the issue. I'd like to mention I spent a lot of time Friday morning/afternoon on the internet trying to find the advertisement for this deal before I asked anyone to join me. There was no trace of it on the restaurant site or anywhere. Just some generic google searches that also claim to give you coupon codes that don't work from a coupon 2'years ago I called one of the stores to ask about the promotion and that I couldn't find it anywhere. I was informed that I won't find it on the website because it's in house and limited time only. Anyway 5 of us order the special. Ribeye, shrimp scampi with choice of spaghetti or Angel hair pasta, individual Italian nachos, house or Cesar salad, and bread for the table. I wish they had vinegar to go with the oil and herb mix to dip the bread in but it was still good. The nachos were different but they were good. The Alfredo sauce acting as queso, I liked it. The dressing on the Cesar salad was more tart/sour than I'm used to, I really didn't enjoy it at all. I was full from the starters, the portion sizes were nice so I assumed our steak was gonna be super tiny along with the small serving of shrimp. I was wrong, the portions sizes were nice. My steak was cooked closer to well done than medium well as I requested but I didn't mind. It was so freaking good. It was seasoned well, tender, and I loved the garlic butter on top. The scampi was ehh, I didn't taste any sauce or anything I the pasta. The shrimp had little seasoning but I can't say the same For the pasta or mushrooms. But overall it was good! 2 other guest ordered chicken Alfredo, it came out piping hot and was a good sized bowl, only thing was the sauce was so thin it didn't really coat the pasta, it was also hard to gather any pasta without slinging juice everywhere. The guests that ordered said it was just ehh. My sister got the alcohol strawberry lemonade and she said it just tasted like watered down pink lemonade. Overall most of us were happy with the food and the service. I could definitely see myself coming back, maybe even trying the pizza or other dishes they are known for. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED. Waited 20 minutes for a to go order that was ordered hours in advance. We stopped ordering salads from them years ago because the lettuce was consistently pathetic and brown. The menu prices have surged and the portion sizes have decreased. The containers we received our meals in were half the size they used to be. $31.99 for a large 8 slice pizza that had a few pepperonis per slice. The biggest offense was the calamari appetizer. We ordered a regular sized appetizer for a WHOPPING $16 and there was a HANDFUL of calamari that did not come with the extra sauce and extra lemons I requested. We used to celebrate birthdays here and have ordered to-go meals from them for a good 15 years, but now I want to ban our family from ever eating here again. They also gave me some mediocre sub bread you can get at a grocery store. I'm throwing this away because it is so gross.
