NOT WORTH IT! NO attention to detail at all. Ordered a Smoke House Double got a single, brought this to the attention of my server, they still tried to charge me for a double. I requested crispy bacon, it was soggy. They didn't even put the BBQ ranch on it. I ate it because I was hungry and didn't feel like waiting another 20 minutes for them to correct it. Most of the staff seemed to be very confused by the sheer amount of orders they have to deal with considering this location is within the San Marcos outlets. Absolutely awful...on all fronts. I mean normally I don't review chains but this stuff just had to be known. The only reason my friend and I went here was because we were at the furthest end of the outlets and were starving and didn't want to walk all the way back to the food court. The mistakes started from 15 mins in. I ordered a veggie burger on a wheat bun. It was 1145 am and the waitress came back 5 minutes later to say they were out of the buns... so I got my order on a bed of lettuce. Then they forgot allllll sorts of things cheese on my friends burger mayo mustard, relish and ketchup on mine and the absolute most ridiculous part was they gave us our burgers with a plastic fork and metal knife. (See picture).The sweet potato fries were charred and gross and my friends fries were forgotten. We drove a while to reach this place and I didn't mind ordering to go. I worked at a restaurant and this is completely unprofessional. I'll keep it short and sweet for you hungry people at the outlets. This place is the definition of mediocre. If you eat here, expect it to be about as good as Jack-in-the-box and nothing more. The fries were probably the best thing I had which is sad since it's a burger joint. Service was delayed due to them being short staffed and the prices were too high for the product you're served. Very disappointed with this Johnny rockets! Came here today for lunch with my family and waited almost an hour for our food to come out! Mind you it wasn't really busy at all, it was about 3:30 in the afternoon. As we watched the cook in the kitchen cook our food he had sweat running down his face dropping onto the grill. Gross right?! The next drip he wiped with his arm while Cooking. Our food then comes out, of course we don't want to eat because we waited forever and then watching the cook drip sweat on our food was disgusting. We paid for our bill, our waiter was amazing! His name was Jake, he did all he could to accommodate us and he wasn't to sure why our food took forever either. I asked him if I could speak to a manager. As soon as he went back to look for a manager the whole kitchen staff and waiters disappeared. They all went into a room next to the kitchen, not to sure why. The manager took forever to come out as well! Manager Bree eventually came out to speak to us. I had informed her about the situation that happened with our experience at Johnny rockets, she was sorry but also rude at the same time. I told her that I feel we shouldn't have paid for our cold food and her response was: "well you should've informed me before paying for your bill! There is nothing I can do about this now!" Wow! We paid $64 for cold food... while talking to the manager another employee there laughed about the situation, which was really rude! We have eaten at the location many times over the years and it was always busy, always had to wait for a table, but the food was always amazing. However, yesterday was a different story. First, I should have realized something was different because half the tables were empty, but just thought we hit it lucky. I was surprised to see we had to place our order at the counter like a fast food restaurant. Also, the menu was reduced severely. The guy taking orders obviously did not want to be there and kept making snide remarks, one was "just like Whataburger now". We placed our order and sat down to wait...and wait. 20 minutes later our shakes and malts began arriving. One at a time, placed on the end by a young lady who promptly walked away. It was fun to figure out which flavor had arrived, NOT. About 15 minutes later our food arrived. Could not have been more disappointed in how it looked and the taste was definitely not up to par either. Who puts tomato between the double meat patties?!?! This visit will be our last and was the biggest waste of $63 dollars in a long time. Restaurant was not crowded and seemed adequately staffed. Restroom was temporary closed so you had to walk a to another store and use theirs. They did provide a hand washing area. Ordered an original cheeseburger with onion slices and Philly cheesesteak sandwich. Took 35 minutes to get food. cheesesteak was subpar, hamburger dry burned around the edges with chopped onion. Manager offered to remake burger after another 15 minute nice juicy burger arrived with no cheese and chopped onion. Fries were hot. Waitresses was pleasant. We're tired. It's been hours. It's Christmastime. The outlets are a madhouse and we just want something to eat. So that explains how we got here. The rather unpleasant "hostess" smacked her gum and asked us our inside/outside dining preference with all the enthusiasm of a wet dish rag. She sat us down outside. Another, perkier, obviously Texas-Stater waitress asked for our drink order. Two Diet Cokes and a water, please. Two Diet Cokes and a water? Cool. That'll be twenty minutes. Twenty minutes before drinks arrived. And the place wasn't all that busy. Finally, we get drinks and food moments before we were going to walk out. I had the original hamburger, which I have to say, was really, really good...and not just because I was hungry. It's a shame the service sucks. But, it's just like Disney World or Six Flags. They've got you by the balls. You're their outlet mall prisoner. They know you're hungry and they know they can charge more than usual and have drippy hostesses because you don't want to wait any longer. Shopping takes it out of you, so you relent. We did. Saturday night is date night for the BF and me. We've been a little strapped for cash recently, so whereas we used to roam far and wide for some Saturday night adventures, now we mostly stick to San Marcos, which in a way is good because it gives us a chance to really get to know the city. This past Saturday, the BF wanted to take me to Johnny Rockets. He had eaten there before on a lunch break and was raving about their oreo cookie malt. I checked out the reviews on Yelp and was pretty dubious after I saw that the only two reviews had both given this place two stars. However, the BF insisted that it was good and we should go, so I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. The first thing I looked for when we walked in was the filth that Sasha C. was talking about. I did notice that the waitress who served us had a few small mustard and ketchup stains on her apron, but otherwise that thing was pretty clean and had probably started out immaculately white at the beginning of her shift. I did also notice that our booth had been hastily cleaned and there was a slight mess of food and a few crayons under our table, but I looked underneath all the other booths on our way out and none of them were like that, so I think we just sat down right after someone with messy kids and they didn't have time to sweep underneath the table. Beyond the mess, I thought Johnny Rockets was actually pretty fun. I was not alive in the 1950's, but this diner feels like it popped straight out of what I imagine the diners of that decade looked like, right down to the artwork of young men in dated military uniforms all smiling and holding out Johnny Rockets glasses for our perusal. They do have a five cent jukebox with an era appropriate playlist at each table which actually does play music over the restaurant speakers. When our waitress gave us our food, she also gave us separate little plates for our ketchup and made a ketchup smiley face on them for us. It was cute. The food itself was pretty good as well. I liked the meat of the burgers better than Center Point's as JR's cooks their patties to a nice medium whereas Center Point's are always well done. However, I was not a fan of their buns, even though they had a wheat option. Their oreo malt, while good, also paled in comparison to Center Point's simple chocolate malt. I think Senor Rocket was skimping on the malt powder that day. Maybe he thought the oreo cookies would compensate. Their fries were, as the BF put it, "quite adequate." They're not amazing, but they do have a golden, slightly crispy outside and soft warm inside. I had no soggy fries, which is always a plus. Maybe Johnny Rockets was just having a good night when we went or maybe they read their reviews and attempted to improve their game in the year since the last review was written. Whatever the case, much like their fries, we had a perfectly adequate dinner here for not too much cash (~$10/person with only one of us getting a malt and the other water). We have visited this location in the past. I have never seen it so dirty. We where seated by the restrooms. Even with the doors closest the stench was bad. We moved twice. Better but still sub par. They burgers are frozen as is pretty much everything else here including the fries. I find this rather offensive seeing that old diners never would of used frozen crap. This is weird: I couldn't tell if my grilled chicken burger was actually white meat or thigh meat. Normally this is an easy spot but this one threw me for a loop. I starred at it, poked at it, ate at it and still couldn't figure it out as it offered both types of characteristics. F'n weird and never a good thing. Have these people ever been to an amusement park?? Level set your expectations, people. Our waitress was really sweet and just attentive enough. The food was decent and hot. A burger, a chili dog and a tuna sandwich. We just paid $36 for three meals. Oh, and they have unlimited fries if you're really into fries. So, everyone walked away satisfied on all levels. Same menu you would expect from a burger joint. A nice feature is that you can substitute a veggie burger or whole wheat bun at no cost. Unfortunately, the nice features on the menu didn't make up the food or the atmosphere. --The cooks just about deafen you when an order is complete and they yell, "order up". Makes for difficult relaxation and conversation. --I ordered the original burger as a veggie burger and it's probably the nastiest veggie burger I've ever had. It was barely warm and it was mushy and soft. It was a Boca burger but had obviously not been cooked properly. Hey, Johnny Rockets, if you can cook a meat burger, you can cook a veggie burger. Please train your people properly! --My last complaint: just before leaving, a worker decided he need something at the podium behind where I was sitting. Instead of waiting for the server who was using the computer to move, he just leaned over me, crowded my space, and proceeded to dig around in the stack of menus there. When I came in, I was very hungry, which means that I probably would have thought anything was delicious. However, I ordered a tuna melt, and my cheese was not melted and the portion size was pretty small considering the price (which I believe may have been around $8 or $9). Very little fries are given, and I had to ask the server about whether I could get more fries (having read that it was unlimited), as opposed to him asking me. One plus side was that I only eat kosher meat, so it was refreshing to see that you could replace the meat in any burger with a veggie pattie for no additional charge. We came here a couple years ago and had a great time. It had been busy, but service was great and the food was as tasty as I had remembered it 10 years ago growing up. This time around....not so much. The place was pretty empty and relatively clean, though it had an odd smell. The guy who took our order and handled our entire meal was really nice, we had absolutely no problems with service. When we got our food, however, my girlfriend found a hair on her plate. We were hungry and had already paid at the counter, so she decided to have it remade and we'd finish our meal. The older man in a tie, who I'm assuming was a manager, walked by and never said anything to us. The server was nice, but it should have been brought back out by the manager. When we finally ate, the food was pretty flavorless overall and definitely not worth over $20 for two burgers. We watched for a little bit before we left, the manager was on the grill and we watched him touch his face multiple times before returning to the food. No one was wearing hats or hair nets other than the server. We'll have to find another restaurant near the outlets I suppose, because we definitely won't be returning here. read more

This was an OK place considering it was the closest restaurant to where I was shopping at the outlet mall, but I definitely wouldn't choose to eat here again. They've got at least three stars because 1) The host's wait time was very accurate, 2) Our waitress (Elise?) was very sweet and friendly. Otherwise, the bathroom was a bit gross, and despite a sign prominently displayed in the dining room stating how clean they are, I had some fries and a quarter grilled cheese sandwich sitting under my table. Although the burgers were tasty, I wouldn't call them delicious and they're definitely not worth $9. The fries were cold the first time around, but hot and crispy when we asked for a second helping. The first helping was maybe a fistful. They state the fries and salad are unlimited, and if you want to upgrade to onion rings, you can pay an extra .99. They don't mention that you don't get unlimited onion rings. Again, maybe a fistful of those. read more

Expectations are key here. It's old school diner themed and it nails that in both the looks and the menu. Today I had a bacon cheddar burger with fries and a fountain soda Coke. The burger was spot on tasty, fried up on a flattop to medium doneness, good cheddar, flavorful bacon, fresh veggies on a toasted bun. This burger was an excellent example of a diner style burger. Just the burger would get 5*****. Unfortunately, the fries weren't even warm, much less hot, 0*. A fountain Coke, okay, at least it was served in a classic Coke glass, 3***. Our waitress today was Chloe. She was attentive, quick, and didn't miss anything. Great service from her, 5*****. I had issues with a couple of things. Cleanliness, Chloe's apron was fine, other worker's looked like 3 days of use. We sat at the counter and I could see the cook, flattop and food prep area. The cook had trouble keeping the flattop clean, only used a portion of the surface even though the patron volume warranted more, and was pretty sloppy assembling the burgers (still, it was tasty). They can definitely improve the food prep procedures and cleanliness in the cooking area, 1*. We stopped in since we were at the stores. It's a pretty good diner if you're in the area and they're not crowded. I would avoid it if they're busy. read more
