We came here a couple years ago and had a great time. It had been busy, but service was great and the food was as tasty as I had remembered it 10 years ago growing up. This time around....not so much. The place was pretty empty and relatively clean, though it had an odd smell. The guy who took our order and handled our entire meal was really nice, we had absolutely no problems with service. When we got our food, however, my girlfriend found a hair on her plate. We were hungry and had already paid at the counter, so she decided to have it remade and we'd finish our meal. The older man in a tie, who I'm assuming was a manager, walked by and never said anything to us. The server was nice, but it should have been brought back out by the manager. When we finally ate, the food was pretty flavorless overall and definitely not worth over $20 for two burgers. We watched for a little bit before we left, the manager was on the grill and we watched him touch his face multiple times before returning to the food. No one was wearing hats or hair nets other than the server. We'll have to find another restaurant near the outlets I suppose, because we definitely won't be returning here. read more

While accompanying my daughter and wife during a dreadful black Friday shopping extravaganza, my daughter decided to break the monotony by requesting a burger from Johnny Rocket and I was very pleased since I enjoyed the burgers on Royal Carribean and my son flaunted his burger in San Antonio last week. The restaurant was packed with patrons enjoying their meals, bt happened to find a table to sit at. So, my wife and I approached the counter and placed our orders. Despite a 25 minute wait, we decided to stay and enjoy the food. Surprisingly, the food came within 15 minutes and we were pleased. For starters, I ordered a chicken salad and both my wife and daughter ordered burgers, rings, and fries. My salad was actually good because the greens and tomatoes were very crisp, the bacon and chicken were plentiful and the honey mustard dressing was tasteful. Both my wife and daughter ordered burgers but ordered them their way. My wife ordered a burger with bacon, lettuce, tomato without cheese, and my daughter ordered a bacon cheeseburger without lettuce and tomato. My wife's first burger came with cheese, but the waiter promptly returned another burger and she was happy because it was cooked well and the buns were toasted. My daughter's burger was also made well because she devoured it within minutes. And, each one of them ate most of their fries so I enjoyed a nice quiet drive home. Finally, the food was great, the service was good, but the dining room was in shambles. Bunched up napkins were all over the floor, and several tables had piles of food on them. Even though it was black Friday, management should have had another person to help direct the patrons and keep the debris off of the floor. Wet tissue on a floor is disgusting. I am not the kind of person to write reviews, especially ones that aren't great, but I downloaded the yelp app just so I could write one for my family's experience today. The food wasn't very great, and the service was much worse. I tried to understand the slow service, and getting complicated orders wrong, so we tried to get out quick without making a big fuss-- even when the separate tickets were mixed up. The real problem I had was being intensely confronted by our waiter as we were leaving. Before we left, some of us had to wait with my grandmother as the car was pulled around to the front of the restaurant. As we waited at the table, our waiter actually interrogated us about our impressions of the service as he bussed our table. I assumed this was in response to the tips we left him. He continued to critique our honest opinions and eventual silence, even after he finished cleaning, and he did all he could to deflect the blame from him onto us. He did not leave until we was able to say numerous times: "that sounds like your problem, not mine". I did not know until later that one person in my family decided not to tip him at all, so now I can understand his anger. However, even if the service had been as flawless as he claimed, I still would have found the confrontation to be defensive, belittling, and extremely inappropriate. My family and I have never been confronted by a waiter like we did today, and I do not feel comfortable returning. read more

Me and my wife stopped in after shopping on a Saturday night. It should've been a red flag that the restaurant was near empty on a very busy weekend. The outlet was full of shoppers. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with fries and a glass of water. My wife ordered a Philly cheesesteak with onion rings and a coke. My burger was the best thing about the whole experience. The fries were over cooked and hard. My wife's philly was worse than a steak um from the frozen section at the grocery store. Her onion rings were also over cooked and was very greasy. The coke was flat and the waiter wasn't very attentive. Brought my check and forgot the pen so that I could sign after he charged my card. The cooks were goofing around and one was on his phone. Yes, he was wearing latex gloves, but also handling the food. Glad I noticed this AFTER I ate my food. It wasn't worth mentioning to management as I told the waiter the coke was flatter than fuck and cost over $3! He offered to fix it by giving a fresh one to go. Nah. Very poor service AND VERY VER RUDE STAFF!! My wife and I went there on 12/15/18 at about 5 pm. We were told that the bar was the only thing they had so we sat there. After about 15 minutes of being ignored we saw an open table so we moved to it. We were immediately told by a very rude waiter that we had to move since we had to be seated by the host. We told him our situation that no one had helped us and he rudely again said that we needed to wait until he at least cleaned the table so we left. Addressed with teenage Mgr who was earlier on cook line dunning his hands through his greased back hair and shooting the shit about hair care products. Ok burger and cold soggy fries after 15 min wait while watching the staff. Will not be back and will be sending public Health office a more detailed accounting. read more

There was a very strong mildew smell present throughout the entire meal. The orders were not made as ordered. The shakes were good and thick. Not sure I would recommend the burgers but I would recommend the shakes. read more

I just visited this restaurant at about 2 pm. They have changed their service for the worse: nobody walks you to your table, waiters don't take orders on the table( you have to Pay upfront at the cashier like atMcDonalds), the menu has been shortened( very few choices), but TODAY I WAS MISTREATED: THEY REFUSED TO ACCEPT A JHONNY ROCKETS GIft CARD. I called the number on the card and it was OK loaded with $50.00. When I returned to the restaurant, the cashier said they don't accept gift cards!! read more

The foods alright but it's definitely not worth waiting 35 minutes for a burger or even just a shake. They have 3 people working here at any given point and the cashier guy triples up as a server and a burger flipper. That should tell you the state of affairs here. I've been wanting to eat here for a while now. Out shopping for some shorts and decided to get a fill up here. Decided to sit outside since it was blazing hot and nobody was waiting vs a 15 min wait for inside. We sat with a big cooler fan by the table. Then the kid came and asked what we wanted to drink then ran off, when he came back with a glass of water because they were out of bottled water o_0, it tasted like water from the outside faucet from a hose that never gets used so it's crusty inside. I ordered the Houston burger and fries from the server (Andre) I think was his name, not the same guy that took the drink order. A really good burger, with just the right amount of spice from the jalapenos and pepper jack cheese. The onion rings were some of the best I had, but the fries were a disappointment. This place survives only by creating a local monopoly on substantial food at the prime outlet in San Marcos. Although I have enjoyed meals at other franchises, my one here was just wrong in every respect. I should have been suspicious the moment we were able to get a table here on Tax Free Weekend. First of all they charge amusement park prices for everything. The smallest drink is over 2 bucks and mostly ice. Although they claim they gladly give refills, I never got a refill on my doctor pepper. But that is forgiviebale. Unforgivabel are the five dollar milkshakes. I mean If I spend five dollars on a milkshake, It better be in a real glass, accompanied by the cocaine crazed girlfriend of San Marco's Coolest Kingpin Mafioso. And It better make me win the World Famous Jack Rabbit Slims Twist contest. So when I wasn't dancing with a Uma Thurman at the end of our meal I was pretty cheezed off. When they delived the milkshake in a foam rubber cup, I almost wanted to go and tell Mr Wallace that the owner of the place had given Mia a foot massage. But worse still they embellish their menu with savory descriptions of their so called food which just do not ring true. The milkshake was described as containing "Hand dipped ice cream" and fudge, when in fact it was clearly soft served ice cream and Sysco chocolate syrup. And WTF does "hand dipped" mean anyway? Do I really want some snot and fungus encrusted human hands to be digging through the ice cream that is to eventually be part of my Five Dollar Shake? They also Claim to feature Heinz Ketchup, when in fact it appears to be some Sysco generic brand tomato paste poured into Heinz bottles. I mean of all the places to cut corners, catsup is pretty rediculous. I mean what is the deal with the skimping on the Sauce at today's restaraunts? This is just out of control. If I go to lockhart I understand why they don't have sauce, and their menu explcitily states that they do not do sauce, but anywhere outside of Lockhart, the skimping on sauce is inexcusable. When I ordered the Smokehouse burger I was told it came with some original recepie barbecue sauce. So imagine my disdain when I chew into my burger and get no tangy goes with ribs flavor. I have to deconstruct the burger and see the grease spot where the sauce is supposed to be, and for once when the waitress asks me if I am "okay," I AM NOT OKAY. Like so many Los Angeles exports this place is all talk and no walk completely failing to live out the legacy of the Johnny Rockets Story (TM). Never did the all american wait staff show me how to get sauce out of the bottle. Never did I see the promised Juke box where songs are just a nickel. Indeed the only reason this place gets two stars is because I didn't get sick and the wait staff was perfectly plesant. read more

I was a bit disappointed by the portion size and quality of the food. Service was good and the atmosphere was fine but the quality of the food was comparable to any fast food restaurant. I don't know if it is just this location, but the menu items have been significantly decreased, there was only 3 workers and the tables and benches were sticky and the floors were super greasy. We have always enjoyed going to Johnny Rockets but this location seems to be more like a McDonalds now. The food was not what we have come to expect from johnny Rockets in the past and it was super greasy. We will never again be returning to this location for burgers, I would rather eat mcdonalds. read more

First time ever was Incredible non gimmicky reboot of a 1940s diner with classic malts and incredible burgers! Food was hot and delicious and took no time at all too cook!!! EXTREMELY SLOW SERVICE! My friend and I were seated at the "bar area" and waited over 25 minutes for our food. Honestly, I think our server forgot to input our order. Our server was Claudia (I believe that was her name) and needless to say she wasn't the best. She didn't fill our drinks despite walking by twice with our glasses in plain view nor did she follow up with us once our food was delivered. This was a pretty terrible dining experience. After spending a long day in the sun and walking, we kinda had no choice but to eat here. We sat at half empty bar and the waiter literally had no idea what the hell he was doing. No water or napkins to start. Took him 15 min to come over to us. We watched our food sit on the ticket counter for at least 10 min until staff members starting to call his name when he was falling behind( remember the bar was only half full). When we asked for no mayo on the chicken burger, it came to us with mayo globbed all over but we couldn't even get this kid to help bc he was Gd knows where. Someone else helped. We visited last week on a Thursday afternoon. Several employees were on staff but none of them were working. They were all more interested in sitting at the bar, talking and enjoying their own food and drinks. The cook wasn't wearing his hair back and took forever to get the food done. The fries were cold. The burgers were so bad we didn't finish them. They were also out of malt. The place itself was filthy. There was plenty of time in the hour that we were there to clean but it appears that they would rather sit around and chat with each other than work. But based on the full parking lot, we decided not to leave the outlet to find food (plus, we didn't see much else along the highway near by). So, we decided to eat here. We got a table immediately and our food came very quickly after we ordered it. The burgers were nothing special and we didn't get very many fries. We got shakes with our burgers and those were good too. All-in-all, it's a good option if you don't want to fight the crowd in the tiny food court, but the prices are a bit ridiculous - burgers, fries, and shakes for two plus tip was $32. Visited in to grab a bite after a long day. I have fond memories of Johnny Rocket's; my family used to go there almost weekly as a treat when we lived out of state. For me, a visit here evoked a different sense of nostalgia than the normal 50's diner vibe. That being said, I walked up to the entrance with high expectations, given that I hadn't visited a JR location in years. Boy, was that a mistake. A server stood outside the front door, chatting on her cell phone, and completely ignored me as I walked up. I opened the door and walked in, to find...nothing. No one said hi, no one came up to me, nothing. Eventually, a gentleman came from the back and I was sat at the counter. Mistake #2. The employees easily outnumbered the guests in the restaurant, but instead of providing sincere customer service, they ignored most of the customers, including myself. A gentleman working the grill asked me for my drink order out of sympathy, then played a ridiculous game where he shouted at three different people before he found a server willing to actually take down my order. I was appalled at the lack of motivation- don't these people want to make money? I know I was by myself, but holy cow, I wasn't going to stiff anyone! Fast forward to the ridiculous amount of time it took to get my meal...my burger wasn't even cooked. I'm still wondering how this is humanly possible, given that I sat in front of the grill for at least 20 minutes in wait. No one ever checked on me (or said anything to me, for that matter). I didn't complain about my food. The experience was so awful that I just wanted to get out of there. I finally flagged down the server who had taken my order to get my check, and she turned her nose up at me. It was clear that she was annoyed at having to serve a "1-top." (Again, let me make this clear- the server-customer ratio was about 2:1. She should have been grateful to serve anyone at all!) The most disheartening part of my experience, though, was watching a young boy (maybe 9 or 10?) order a vanilla malt to-go; when it was ready, a "bro-looking" (you know the type) server told him "oh, I don't have any change for you, sorry," just to pocket the boy's money. Johnny Rockets is by far the best burger in town. I've been coming here every Saturday morning since I moved down here. Manny is always my server and he is always on point with my order. I walk in, sit down and immediately have a tea waiting for me and my order is put right away. The food is always hot and fresh. Shafer is very professional and checks on the customers to make sure everything is right and you are happy with everything, even when they are busy. Everyone here is professional and friendly. They always make me feel welcome and that's why I keep coming back! read more
