I was going to order 3 dresses on line last Friday, total of about $1300. On their Google sponsored ad, it showed a 20% discount. When I went to complete the order and put in the code, it told me it was invalid. I contacted Customer Service and was met with the rudest customer service agent. She tried to tell me it wasn't their ad and that they had no sale going on. I told her it was a Google sponsored ad that they paid for and it was indeed their ad. They refused to honor this and promptly took the ad down (within 30 minutes!). Not their ad...BS! read more

I have no complaints about the service I have received at the Newport Beach store. I have always had excellent customer service there so I expected that would also be true of the online website. WRONG!!! I tried a dress on in the store but didn't buy it right away. I loved the dress and ended up ordering it online. The dress arrived with several defects that had not appeared on the dress I tried on in the store. I contacted customer service to exchange the dress for one without the flaws. After several weeks runaround they informed me that they had reviewed my photos and did not see any flaws. They offered to allow me to return the dress but told me I would have to pay the shipping costs. This is unacceptable as the dress was not inexpensive and should not have had flaws. I will never order anything else online. I am very disappointed. read more

I've been to multiple locations all over the country and this location (and the Long Beach store) is my favorite. Friendly customer service. There are only two dressing rooms but if you go off hours, it's pretty quick to get in one. Season switchovers can mean wonderful discounts on beautifully made bohemian style embroidered blouses, dresses, pants and accessories. read more

The worst customer service. I tried to call the next day so I could talk to the manager but no one answered the phone and the voicemail is full. I thought the problem was the girl who was working the day I was there, however now I'm thinking there is very poor management in this store. Wow!!!! Talk about horrible customer service! As I was walking through the mall I saw the store and was very excited to shop there, rather than through the catalog! I was the ONLY customer in the store and there were 3 ladies working. One, barely acknowledged me, one ignored me and one acted more than irritated that I wanted to look at a rack she was restocking. I have been a loyal catalog customer for years (don't have a store in my state) so fortunately this was not my first experience. We got my mother a pair of pants for Christmas, and we bought the wrong size. Easy fix, take it back to the store and exchange right? WRONG. Without even attempting to help us find the receipt the woman (with red hair) said they could not take these back. If she had taken two seconds, She would have found the receipt (as they did at the Long Beach location). She stated it was store/corporate policy. She talked down to my mother (and me) and acted like we were not good enough to be shopping there. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, HORRIBLE ATTITUDES. I am so disappointed in ordering online. I have shopped at the Fashion Island store for years and due to Covid started ordering more online items. I recently ordered a shirt and dress and normally wear an XS...........when ordering online there was NO DISCLAIMER at least that was highly visable that the shirt was a final sale. I went online to order the next size up and it showed it was a final sale and not returnable. I AM EXTREAMLY dissappointed in your customer service. If it was going to be nonreturnable it should have been more visable on your website. This is my all time favorite store and I confess 90% of my wardrobe is from JW (a slow growing collection over many many years) Each piece is made so beautifully and with so much detail it's hard to pass up! Don't even get me started on the jewelry, handbags and scarves! The sales girls, especially Amy and manager Anne, always welcome me and my daughter with a warm smile and hug. They are genuine in their kindness and honest when a piece just doesn't suit me. I count on their eye when I'm overwhelmed with what I should get, they never ever try to upsell or push items on me unlike other stores or sales girls who just have "that looks great on you" mantra spewing out of their mouths without even looking at me. As a side note I am completely shocked at the horrible review left about Amy (who btw is not a manager) Amy is the sweetest kindest soul and I've never seen her treat a customer like one reviewer stated. So please if you are reading these reviews to see if you'd like to shop at this location don't let those bad reviews deter you! I've spent so much time in that store and I've yet to witness any employee being rude to a customer. It's quite the opposite. They are ALL extremely accommodating and kind. This is my absolute favorite store in Orange County. I have been coming here since I was recovering from extreme Breast Cancer surgery and Amy helped me find free flowing clothes made out of soft, comforting materials. I am a now a loyal customer of 3 plus years to the brand and it's representatives like Amy who help make you feel beautiful and comfortable at the same time. This is a wonderful brand, designed in LA,with sales people who have great training. Anyone who experienced otherwise must have been in a bad mood. Amy and the team at this store are nothing short of fantastic. Every piece I have bought from this line has brought nothing but dozens and dozens of compliments. I've been both to the store and ordered online the website is clearly and completely broken you can't order even though it's at five $600 order you can order and then the next day they send you a message did you forget to complete your check out now I didn't forget you fucking moron your Web site is broken and I couldn't finish. Calling their customer service number is a treat! You will spend a minimum of three hours waiting in my case over three days before anybody bothers to actually answer the phone. And they make no apologies about it whatsoever. They're kind of quiet and really couldn't care less about the amount of time that you've wasted versus the money that you're trying to spend. Now once you go into a store the girls are incredibly sweet and very helpful an incredibly nice which makes no sense considering the first two options are horrible. As a cancer patient I prefer to order my clothes online I don't want to have to deal with anybody but in this case you should go to a store because the first two options the website and then they're so called customer service are about as much fun as slamming your hand in the car door. read more

The name of the game these days is convenience, and Johny Was made my last experience decidedly inconvenient :-( I purchased quite a few items online and I needed to return one so I came here. They only wanted to give me a store credit since I'd used a 20% holiday discount on a regularly priced item (screams of insecurity, and doesn't make sense... just reimburse minus the coupon)... and didn't have any return shipping procedures in place... nor a shipping label to send it back (I don't care if you deduct the cost from my return, but please people... make it convenient for your customer). I LOVE this store! I used to think this store was way too expensive and not worth the price point! After I started to go in on my breaks and just look at the beautiful scarves they hang, I started to become hooked. One of the girls who works there, Hillary, is so amazing! She has such knowledge of the product and I feel like she could talk to a customer for hours about Johnny Was like a friend and not like a sales girl. I never felt pressured to purchase anything that I wasn't comfortable with spending that amount of money on. Truly excels at customer service! This store wouldn't be the same without her! I have been to a couple of the other locations, like Santa Monica, but have never felt such energy like this before. I will only go there if I know that she is working, even just to say hi! I recently ordered 2 items from their website for a total of $550. This was three weeks ago. After the initial email confirming my order and saying they will let me know when it would ship, I have heard absolutely nothing from JW. After a week I tried calling-after holding for fifteen minutes the recorded voice said that "No one was available and they would call me back". Total, utter BS. I have called several times and emailed several times. No response. Oh and they have charged my credit card for the full amount. It's been three weeks. The only human I have been able to talk to was if I wanted to place an order. They could not help me as they just take the orders. Apparently I am not the only dissatisfied customer. I would like to cancel my order but there is no way to do that. I don't understand how they can run a business this way. APPALLING SERVICE!! Sadly, and I can't believe I am saying this, but I just had a 'pretty woman' experience at this Long Beach store. I was hoping to possibly exchange a blouse that I realized had a tear. I love this new blouse, purchased 4 days ago in a different JW location, and was to wear it at an event this evening. Because I have only had great experiences with JW stores my husband decided to treat me for an hour drive to discover what delightful goodies were inside a SoCal store. I was prepared to purchase something else if the blouse wasn't in stock and was excited to explore a new area I hadn't visited before. We walked into the beautiful location and began explaining the problem item. The lady realized I hadn't purchased there and immediately recited store policy, how she couldn't even pick up a phone to see if another might be in stock somewhere, and told us to go back to our original JW location. To be fair, I understand going back to the original location; but where was the Johnny Was hospitality? I had clearly relayed I was wanting a blouse for the evening and the only one I brought for the occasion was damaged. I even started looking around and started to ask a question; but she absolutely wasn't interested in helping and quickly dismissed us. I admit I thought I was likely to receive a little, 'Let's help you find something else equally beautiful and suitable' attitude. In the middle of the day this store was empty and I was wearing another JW lower key outfit. I obviously like the product and had a purchase interest. With her clear dismissal, my husband actually took my hand and we quietly walked out not even exploring the store beyond the quick glimpse at the one rack. He has never done that before. It took me a minute to realize what had even happened. Bottom line, no need to go to the Long beach location. Better to buy a plane ticket to San Jose and experience the Johnny Was at Valley Fair Mall instead. Those hard working ladies will make sure you leave their store feeling supported and fabulous. Need an outdoor mall? Go to Carmel-by-the sea or the beautiful Stanford Mall location, or even shop online. Luckily there are many other easy ways to skip a negative experience. read more

Entered the store after seeing a dress on display. I had no idea what I was getting into. I was greeted warmly as I looked through the racks. I love all of the colors, silks and styles of their clothes. Veronica helped me shop and I tried a few items on. I ended up going with a dress they didn't have in the Newport store. They ordered it online for me and it shipped within three days. If I could, I would make half of my wardrobe clothes from Johnny Was. So comfortable, bright and cheerful colors, unique designs and really great staff. read more

After ordering 3 pieces of JW clothing on the summer clearance sale online I found that 2 of the pieces had the wrong size on them. I ordered a pant in XL which I could not even get over my thighs. After measuring I found the pant actually measured a 45.5 size large not the 50 inches wide that the XL LABEL should measure. I had the same experience with a shirt labeled XL the size I ordered but actually measured the size for a L! JW does not clearly advertise online that the summer sale was NOT RETURNABLE! So I packed up the clothes and mailed it back to RETURN since the clothes were MISLABELED in their size, JW FAULT NOT MINE! If I do not get a CREDIT I will contact my CC CO. to get one. So BEWARE JW CLOTHES are MISLABED IN SIZE and then they will not take a RETURN for JW MISTAKE. And how many pieces of JW CLOTHES have the wrong size on them?? I have been a loyal customer of Johhny Was and have spent THOUSANDs of dollars! Not hard to do when the average price of a blouse is $200! I shop at the Newport Beach store and at the The Grove Los Angeles. Last night I brought a few items to the Newport Beach store to coordinate with possible new pieces and to take advantage of their 4th of July sale, and my experience with the sales girls at this store was so humiliating and unwelcoming that I will never return. There were two young ladies at the store last night who's names I will not mention but instead of taking advantage of an opportunity to sell me more pieces, they both greeted me as if I was an inconvenience or maybe even a possible thief. One of the girls who clearly was in charge for the evening before even greeting me quickly asked me if I was returning clothes. I explained to her that I wanted a price adjustment for one of the blouses that I purchased at full price and went on sale, and that I wanted to find other pieces to match what I had just bought a few days ago. It was my intention last night to add to my growing collection of Johnny Was pieces and take advantage of their 4th of July sale! Without a smile the girl in charge offered to take my bag of clothes from me as if not giving to her was not an option. And instead of offering to assist me with possible new purchases she began inspecting the bag of clothes and laid them out at the sales counter. I wasn't sure if she thought I was going to be stealing from the store or why it was her mission to make sure she knew what was in my bag. Whatever her intentions she made it clear she did not want to sell any clothes to me. Regardless of the uneasiness I felt I decided I was going to ignore the negative unwelcoming vibes and began shopping. I headed for the dressing room and I needed different sizes so I asked the other sales girl for help. She told me that the other girl would help me when she gets off the phone. So I waited for the girl in charge to come out of the back office and instead of helping me with the new pieces I was interested in she made it her big deal priority to tell me that they would not be able to do my price adjustment because I purchased it over "10 days ago", and that I could not return because it had been "worn". So now I am feeling very SMALL by now but still continued to shop to try to move past the unpleasant encounters I was having with these girls. Long story short, I did end with a price a adjustment but not with having a few an unpleasant exchange with the sales staff. I walked out of the store feeling very unimportant, unsure, and baffled why two sales girls did not take the opportunity to win over an already LOYAL customer and opted to lose one. read more

I entered the Fashion Island location and was warmly greeted by a young woman. She was wearing one of the flowy tops I saw as I first walked in and had a silk scarf draped around her neck. I was asked how I was doing and if I'd ever shopped the Johnny Was brand before, to which I shared with her my experience with some of their items sold at Anthropologie. She was extremely knowledgeable about the brand and its design history, sharing how the company originated as a wholesaler but had been around for 30 years. My eyes fixated immediately on the silk scarves hung like Tibetan flags over the dressing room area. As I reached for some of the tags, I noticed the price point of the item which was much higher than I was able to pay. As soon as I established that I would not be able to afford anything in the store unless it was on sale, I looked for the sale section which was located towards the back of the store. These items were not individually marked down, but had a 30% off sign on top of the racks. I found 2 items to try on and had them in my hand for no more than 3 minutes when the same sales associate came over asking if I would like a fitting room. The fit of the slip I found was very intuitive to a woman's body, draping perfectly. The pants were really comfortable + flattering. They came to the ankle and were a black/white batik print. I wanted to purchase the slip or 1 of the scarves and asked about a student discount or other form of promotion. Hillary shared that the store did not offer a student discount, but asked if I'd like to be on their email list for future promotions. I agreed and gave Hillary my information. She did not seem disappointed that I was unable to purchase anything, and still remained friendly and connected with me, which was really impressive. She inquired about the rest of my weekend, encouraged me to visit the company's website, and offered to help out if I had any questions. The store, it's atmosphere, the employees, and merchandise were each reflective of the other eclectic, fashionable, breezy, and welcoming. Hillary was obviously very passionate about the brand and expressed a desire to grow. I asked her if she was management and she said no, which surprised me. I felt her personality and knowledge of the product were both very deserving of a management role. I was so impressed with this location and the environment created, I would definitely return even if it was only to window-shop! read more
