I feel like clothing retailers are usually reviewed negatively about their products, a shopper's unfavorable experience, or negative customer service and not enough is said about exceptional customer service - so here's one :). I am not a regular shopper of Madewell but recently bought an item online because I saw it in-person at the store. It didn't work out so I went to Madewell MV and was assisted by Jaidyn M. Hopefully this is the correct young lady because I didn't catch her name at the time but found this name on my emailed receipt. Jaidyn was extremely warm and patient and helped me complete the return. I know we've all been there when making a return at any retailer only to feel like we're bothering them or taking away from their daily revenue goal, which we are lol, but Jaidyn didn't make me feel that way at all. Her pleasant demeaner and quick assistance was greatly appreciated last month (mid-October). Thanks so much, Jaidyn! It's because of you I have started to shop here more often. The managers here have got to be the most rude in all the store. The way management runs has worst customer service. Not helpful finding jeans and sizes. I am always a size 12, lady was telling me it will be too big and get smaller size I'm a size 6 and I told her that's not true it will be too small. She changed fhe sizes and it was too small and had to return get my normal size. The way they go about customer service is aweful. Love the jeans just inot how I'm treated. read more

Stopped by there today for the first time. Was super excited to try their clothes- I've seen their line at Nordstrom. No one said hello. Okay- not big deal, maybe they're busy. Decided to try on a couple items, there was someone standing near the fitting rooms who worked there and there was absolutely no acknowledgement that I was there. Anyway, the clothes didn't fit. My first time at the MV store yesterday and I was browsing at the front of the store. There were a couple of customers towards the back and 2 associates behind the register. It's interesting to read the other "rave" reviews on this particular stores customer service. Last time I went in I patiently waited for a sales person, then after having them walk by me 10 times with the shoe in my hand. I finally asked them for help then when I wanted more help she didn't want to be bothered. I get retail, I use to work in Banana Republic but if you don't help customers they're not going to come back. So I'm officially done with this store. After my experience at this store yesterday, I just had to write a review. I ordered a couple tops online and had them shipped to the store, so I called ahead to see if shipment had arrived yet. She checked in the back for me, and it hadn't come in yet, but she said shipment would probably be there soon. I checked back and it had come, so she let me take it right away so I wouldn't have to wait. I know it's not that big of a deal, but the group of ladies working yesterday were so kind and helpful. I usually shop only at the South Coast plaza Location because I like the staff that works there but I was in the Missian Viejo mall returning a couple things to lush and decided to run in to this madewell location. The Moment I walked in the store I was greated by mutiple people. I have recently gained some weight and needed some help picking out a pair of jeans a girl named emily came over and started helping me find some jeans. She kept telling that the sizes run a little large and to try a size down from my normal size. I grabbed 2 pairs of jeans in the size she instructed and I was very surprised that all of them fit me perfectly. I have never tried on their jeans before and now I regret not investing in them sooner. The store is very clean and organized. I also really appreciate the staff being knowledgeable. I had such an awesome experience shopping for jeans with the help of Autumn! She was so generous with her time, didn't make me feel rushed at all and didn't make me feel silly for wanting to try on so many different pairs of the similar jeans so I could figure out which ones felt best! I really appreciate her, she was running the entire store (helping two other people with jeans as well) and so approachable. I walked out of the store with 2 new pairs of jeans, which is unheard of for me because I usually give up in the dressing room. She also didn't make me feel bad about wanting to order a petite version of another pair online, and she gave me the style # and I'm about to order them on Black Friday sale right now. I only post Yelp reviews when an employee has really made an experience positive, and Autumn did that for me! I hope she gets a special holiday bonus or recognition (or both :) read more

The first time I went in all of the ladies were very helpful. I had assistance from maybe 3 separate girls all helping me find my perfect size and fit. I left very happy. That being said, I went back in today to make a return. One of the items didn't end up working out for me and I also wanted to donate a few old pairs of denim that I already owned. The cashier was very rude and condescending. She told me she could not except my return because I didn't have the card. My fiance had paid for the jeans with his personal card and I had all of the tags intact. The jeans were still folded up in the bag. I find this very inconvenient. I didn't want store credit and I told the cashier that. I also explained that this was inconvenient for me since my fiance was out of town and I didn't know when I would be able to come back with him to make this return. This entire process is inconvenient for the customer. Many huge department stores do not have this same issue with returns. They will happily refund you. Besides this terrible policy, her attitude could have been nicer but instead she decided to be cold and rude all while not assisting me. It is ashame that one person's attitude can taint the whole experience of one store. read more

Well, I see I'm not the only one that never is asked if they need help...sometimes if I'm lucky I am acknowledged. Once I went in ready to buy a few pair of jeans, the sales people as usual were around the jeans, I looked , and not one person asked if I needed help. This is by far my favorite store. the clothes are adorable, the employees are wonderful, and the prices aren't too high. I couldn't find my size for a pair of adorable jeans and one of the workers knew a mannequin was wearing my size so offered to take them off the mannequin! I was so pleased with the service and will definitely be shopping here more often. read more

Poor service. We came in here about a week or two ago looking for a birthday gift not one sale girl greeted us & they all looked very depressed. Made us not want to buy anything with such gloomy faces. I don't know if they are not being paid well or if the girls are just lazy but no one helped us find the jeans in our nieces size so we skipped buying. Hint to corporate - depressed sales girl don't equate to sales & profits. read more
