Super cute book the checks come in where you can sign your name

a gem in HMB! The ambiance is diner vibes. Friendly staff and amazing menu! Their kids pancakes are super cute and come with rainbow sprinkles. The only downside is no craft coffees or iced coffee. I made the mistake of ordering an iced coffee, which was basically their regular coffee brew over ice. The avocado toast was delicious! Highly recommend.

Had a great outdoor lunch at Johnny's Half Moon Bay. We grabbed a sunny table outside and started with some Pizzolato organic Prosecco and bright citrusy cocktails--perfect for a relaxed afternoon on Main Street. The vibe is super chill, with outdoor seating and even a friendly pug hanging around. Very pet-friendly. Cobb Salad came loaded with herb-coated chicken, crispy bacon, hard-boiled eggs, avocado, blue cheese, tomatoes, and red onion. Everything was fresh and well-portioned. The chicken was good, though it could've used just a little more flavor/seasoning. Fish sandwich (the one that feels like a burger) was solid. The bun tasted homemade--soft, slightly sweet, and really good quality. Crispy fried fish, creamy sauce, and slaw made for a satisfying bite, and the hand-cut fries were excellent. Overall a solid meal at a charming local spot. Would happily come back, especially for the outdoor seating and those buns.

    The Junior Breakfast $19??

Long wait time and weird way of seating (didn't actually use the list of names). Then took awhile for the server to come take our order. Very loud music could barely talk to my partner and hear her from across the table. Small tights quarters. Server brought water and almost dropped it on us. Staff don't seem happy to be here. Got the Junior Breakfast - $19 - potatoes have way too much rosemary, toast was burnt, bacon was cold, and poached eggs came out in enough fluid it could have been soup. Not a fan. They're luck that they're like the only spot for breakfast...I wouldn't come again.

First time at Johnny's and it was definitely busy but still the service was great The food was amazing! We got the french toast it was amazing and my friends got the lemon pancakes which were interesting but still great in her opinion! 4/5

They aren't messing around! This place is great on every level. The ambiance and decor is great, retro elevated diner feel that is still organic and comfortable. It's definitely popular so prepare for a wait. Luckily there are tons of little shops around to kill time. We got the short rib benedict and egg white omelette. The benedict speaks for itself once you see it - beautifully plated, rich, and delicious. The egg white omelette was a surprise hit! Full of flavorful veggies and topped with cheese and avocado to add richness. The crispy potatoes that come with all the dishes are there for a reason, just order an extra side of them in advance!

My breakfast order, the Junior, was very basic, but my over easy eggs were perfect, the English muffin was toasted just right, and the fresh fruit bowl was indeed fresh and had good variety. I love Johnny's potatoes, and that the bill comes in an actual Winnie-the-Pooh book!

Let's start with us arriving, nobody greeted us, we wrote our names down but the hostess did not really use the list, it was more of a suggestion.. Very loud music inside and out... Our server took forever to get to our table and then practically threw our waters on the table. Nobody was nice, kind, energetic, appeared to be having fun or liking their job. It was very busy, and did I mention LOUD! Will not be returning. Food was mediocre and very expensive for what you got. Soup was def out of a can..

My Husband and I wanted to have breakfast somewhere in Half Moon Bay, we drove out and as were driving through Main Street, we saw Johnny's, clean and inviting from the outside. We were acknowledged immediately upon walk in and were seated. Johnny's is a beautiful little restaurant, the food was good and the little details make it more special,

Better than average taste and presentation wise, great service in a very retro style but unassuming cafe. Possibly the best breakfast for many, many miles and lunch was quite satisfying.

Establishment, decor, and service were good but the food wasn't quite up my alley. Food: Old Town Scramble Presentation was nice but, despite the ingredients, the flavor was just weaker than I thought it'd be. I couldn't taste the chorizo and either they forgot the Serano salsa or it was cooked into the dish? The slices of pasilla pepper were the most impressionable flavor of the plate. I was also a bit underwhelmed by the serving size, but especially only having 6 potatoes on my plate. Despite this, the potatoes were pretty well-seasoned with herbs/spices. Service: Wait staff were friendly and ensured we were comfortable once we settled in. Couldn't ask any more of them! Ambiance: Old school diner in an even older downtown. Interior is reminiscent of any American diner in the 1960s - absolutely appreciate the character of the establishment! I recommend arriving ahead of time to find parking since DT HMB can be quite crowded. Overall, I could be swayed to visit again to try other items.

Foods was yummy. Lemon ricotta pancakes or braised beef with avocado. COOK GREAT JOB but Service was sad bare minimum over crowded and small dining area we waited 15 min for our seat of 5 then it took 45 minutes to receive food. What was e en more disheartening was each of our meals (5) came at all different times so we couldn't even eat together. Server never checked on us just took our order and gave us the bill. Bummer man! Oh ya brunch starts at NOON not 3 minutes earlier apparently hard to find parking if you have trouble standing this is not the place our cousin with 2 babies eat somewhere else due to size and lack of room

    Yeonhwa S.

Food is pretty good but they were so insanely busy. We had to wait almost an hour when we got there at 9:30. Servers were super busy so it was really hard getting their attention, and even when we did, they seemed to be in a rush and weren't the most friendly. Cute brunch spot w good food decorated pretty but I would not go again. Parking is also not available so you need to find street parking but that's like anywhere in downtown half moon bay.

Great spot for brunch. The lemon ricotta pancakes are a must! Amazing pancakes. The short ribs Benedict were epic. Super tasty food overall. Service was friendly and food came out fast despite the waiting time to get a table.

The service and cleanliness were the issues. I arrived with my wife and our 2 year old grandson for an early lunch and walked in about 11:01. Yelp said they open at 11am so I had no reason to think that would be an issue. The young woman at the register, whose name I did not get, seemed to be somewhat in charge as she was asking other employees to do certain things. I ordered when she was ready and went out to the patio table areas where the kids play area is. My wife asked me to ask them if there was a pooper scooper because there were a couple piles of dog poop on the play area grass. I went back to the register and just let them know there was dog poop out by the tables on the grass. She said she knew and would have someone clean it up soon. I said thanks. As I walked out of the restaurant and past the outdoor pick up window I hear her say to the other workers "you know what I hate is when people get here before we open and start asking me to clean stuff up." First, I wasn't early. You were open. Second, it's a health issue and I felt I was very nice in how I kindly let you know there was an issue that you would probably want to address. So I return to the tables and start to realize how unkept and dirt the whole place really is. Please see the attached photos. Where I probably wouldn't have left a review or photos before, the rude and incorrect comment about me letting them know there was dog poop where kids play before they eat made me decide this deserved a review. Please see the attached photos. The cashier/manager? at the very least deserves significant retraining. Maybe a list needs to be made of specific tasks a staff member is responsible for every day before opening and that staff member would initial that they completed the tasks. You know... 1) check for and clean up all dog poop on site. 2) wipe down all tables and benches. 3) clean up all trash, including all little bits of food, napkins, pens, etc off the ground. 4) check all napkin dispensers that they are full and tops are on and they are in the same place on all tables. The poop photo is the last one listed. I couldn't seem to get it first in the list. I didn't take photos of everything (more poop and trash) because I hadn't yet decided I would write a review. But here it is.

Their other specialty (other than the burger) is their mushroom sandwich. I also got their homemade potato chips and added a Diet Coke. I waited about 10 minutes for my meal to be served in a paper bag and then decided to sit inside on one of the stools. The burger is served on grilled square shaped sandwich bread and it was very good tasting. It wasn't a traditional burger with the shrooms, cheese, Dad's sauce, cheese, pickled onion and lettuce and fell apart by the time I was halfway thru it. It is definitely a knife and fork sandwich but I still enjoyed it. Also those homemade chips were also very good tasting. They had a (coating) on them and I can see why they are so popular. Yes this is a very good and unique type of place to eat. My only negative was the price. $16.25 for the burger, $5.50 for the potato chips and $3 for the can of Coke. With tax it was $26.65!
