Nightmare on Main Street. Their chicken sandwich. Thinnest piece of chicken I've ever seen. I got mine to go so returning it wasn't convenient. When i order a chicken sandwich, i like to actually taste chicken. They cover this piece of chicken with some sort of citrus spicy sauce & they pour it on like gravy. No chance of tasting the chicken, all you taste is this sauce. No mention of the sauce on the menu so it was a total ambush. The fried breading was like what you see on fried fish, complete with pieces of the breading being like chewing on gravel. Not a good first impression, Johnny. Service was ok. This was my second visit. My daughter lives in the area and it's one of her favs. The service was gracious and the food great once we were seated. The menu is just the right amount of variety without having items similar to others. Nice tableware and napkins. Both visits, we waited a long time. Today, I realize it's 7/4, but more than an hr. The hostess was very sweet, but allowing people who weren't staying there to wait to claim a table when they wandered back. Johnny's is not only a cute restaurant, but it was also delicious!! Great place to take your friends and family. It makes for an adorable lady's breakfast or to take a special someone on a morning date. Highly recommended it. We ordered a couple of dishes to share. We loved the Queen B Belgian Waffle, there's something so special about that dish. We also ordered the Chicken Sandwich, and the OG Eggs Benny, both were excellent! The food at this breakfast spot is so good. Down to the aesthetics of the restaurant. I have never been into a restaurant that was so particular in the aesthetics and cleanliness of the restaurant. My husband and I got a burger and the chilaquiles. The server was consistent and made sure we enjoyed our food and had everything we needed to have a wonderful experience. Light and delicious breakfast. Food here is tasty and they have their logistics down. As guests of this restaurant, the host is always on the lookout for a place to seat you, so although it's popular and crowded, someone will always step outside and offer you seating as soon as a table becomes available. We spent a week on the California Coast, stoping for lunch at Johnny's. We arrived right before a rush and chose to sit at the counter, cause....diner! First observation, the ladies waiting tables are a choreographed show! They handle every front of house position themselves. Seating, orders, runners, beverages....very impressive. You've got to have excellent organizational skills to keep a full restaurant running. I had a cheeseburger, cooked to perfection ( medium ) great fries and a crisp pickle. Decided to do a middle of the week road trip to Half Moon Bay on Wednesday, July 31st, with a dear friend recovering from a fall. It was the best medicine for us both. The retail district on Main Street is thriving and busy. After parking the car, we chose to catch a lunch at Johnny's breakfast and lunch diner. Situated on a corner with several booths, and waiting waitresses to seat you and serve you. Our waitress came to the table and introduced herself to us and asked for a drink order. We already knew what we wanted to eat so we ordered the blackened salmon and the fish and chips. Within several minutes we had our beverages and 15 minutes later we had our meal. The blackened salmon came on a bed of spinach and some asparagus spears. My fish and chips came with 3 pieces deep friend fish, tartar sauce and some French fries. Our meals were well prepared and enough for us to take. I would recommend Johnny's for a good home cooked style lunch. The ambience was cheerful especially the orange slice wallpaper in the bathroom, really a very good choice. Will definitely go back to Johnny's again. read more

This place has an old school dinner vibe. Staff was friendly and helpful in making substitutions to meals. Not a lot of vegetarian options to pick from. The only reason I give this place 3 stars is because the food was just ok in flavor. The veggie bowl and great ingredients but I wish it had more seasoning. And the fries on the fish and chips were a little hard (not in a crunch way). Felt like old reheated fries. Other people's food items looked very tasty and filling. This is a very cute place to eat. I really loved the fresh flowers on every table. Service was good and we were in and out in about 30 minutes but we did arrive right when they opened. Pretty pricey for small portions but very tasty. You have to try Johnny's potato's they were by far the most delicious breakfast potatoes I've ever had!!! Am a local & we loved the re-model retro vibe along with good food & staff. But prices are on the higher side AND be prepared to be nickel and dimed on top of that........additional $1.50 for Avian bird flu if you order any egg dish, ok, I get it fine, but the egg crisis has abated. But then hubby ordered pancakes which comes topped with Blueberry compost + whipping cream. He asked for just plain pancakes with butter and maple syrup. When the bill arrived, they added an additional $4.00 line item for maple syrup on top of 3 small-ish pancakes that are $18.00. While we can well afford this, we left not feeling great to return as regulars. The new Johnny's has become a tourist trap. read more

Yesterday was my first time at Johnny's. My friend wanted to go here for brunch but we got there at 1:52pm and they close at 2pm. I didn't want to go in so close to closing but they urged us to come in and sit down. The decor was lovely - yellow and white, lemon wallpaper, very clean, classic look. The staff never rushed us even though they were basically closed. I got the Mr. Big Stuff turkey sandwich and my friend got fish and chips. My sandwich and fries were SO good!! And my friend's fish and chips looked incredible - 3 big pieces of dark fried fish. I got the iced tea and it was the most delicious restaurant iced tea that I have ever had. While the food was a solid B and prices were reasonable (~$22 for a benedict), as many other reviewers have said, they surprised guests with an 18% festival fee on top of the 20% service fee. I would've been alright with it if there was a sign outside, a note on the menu, or a heads up from the staff, but it was tacked on AFTER they give you the check to review. They are legally allowed to tax you on mandatory fees, so after tax, the grand total comes out to 51% more than the subtotal. Because these fees were mandatory, it definitely made me as a customer feel taken advantage of. I should note that the interior looks great and the staff was friendly. read more

My husband ended up with a chorizo scramble and a side of hasbrowns extra crispy. He said the hashbrowns were enough to come back for. I had the special for Maui, rice, eggs and linguisa sausage. Chilaquiles is definitely the reason for 5 stars! Super fresh ingredients and great quality and flavor. Nothing heavy or greasy. The salmon Benedict would have been better if the salmon didn't have that more fishy flavor. Not that the fish was not good it just happened to be more fishy tasting and we don't like that. The cheddar biscuits were super yummy and we subbed those for English muffins for the Benedict for $2. My partner ended up ordering 2 additional sides of hollandaise sauce because he's a sauce addict which cost $3 each. I think most people would have been fine with what they normally provide.
