[[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was buzzing with activity, good smells and people working hard.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was good but service great! I had a pastrami scramble which was good, my husband had a Lobster Rachel and the others had spicy chicken omelet and spinach omelet. I am visiting from LA and this place reminders me LA. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cool decor and good service.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was excited about how fast the food was served.

Turkey dinner & steak tips. L

I never thought that this would happen where this restaurant became mediocre but today had the turkey dinner. It was huge three huge slices of turkey, but I think it's deli, turkey sliced thick. It was very salty, and the gravy tasted canned and the cranberry sauce had no flavor. I think it was just left in the kitchen fridge since last November. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Service was good and the place is clean[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], but disappointed, my friend also got steak tips and thought the only thing that was good on the dish was the mashed potatoes..

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is 50's style starting with the exterior of the luncheonette right down to the counter and booths.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I set down at the counter and had to wait for server. The man responsible for the booths also handled the counter. I had an omelette with cantaloupe, no toast or hash browns. The substitution was free. I had the south of the border omelette; salsa, guacamole, jalapeño peppers and cheese. The omelette had to be three eggs. I don't know what they do to get them so fluffy. There is a parking lot out front. The potion size was healthy. I would return in the future.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]A retro, old school diner in the heart of Newton Centre.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I came here on a weekend for brunch, right after the breakfast rush. We didn't have to wait too long for a table and took some time deciding what to get. The menu has great variety it was difficult to choose because I wanted to try so many dishes. I opted for the truffle Benny that came with side of potatoes as well as pancakes and tater tots to share. The Benedict was cooked perfectly with oozing egg yolk and had crispy potatoes. The pancakes are huge, super sweet, and fluffy. The service was quick even during the busy brunch rush. I'll definitely be back to try an omelette and a one of their mini milkshakes. Overall, I'd recommend coming to try if you're in the area.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Johnny's Luncheonette is a quintecenntial 50's style diner that transports you back in time to a place of joyful nostalgia. The interior decor is enhanced by the class photos from the local junior high school. You just feel a welcoming and charming vibe as soon as you enter[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. We easily found metered street parking a few storefronts from the restaurant entrance. We arrived as a party of 5 on a Tuesday morning and had no trouble getting a larger booth in the back. No waiting. The server promptly greeted us and served hot coffee for everyone in our party. The breakfast options are plentiful. I ordered The Waverly - two potato latkes served with two eggs any style (scrambled) and sliced smoked salmon, sour cream and grilled tomatoes. It is definitely a lot of food for one person, which makes this entree sharable in my opinion. My dining companion ordered the chicken and waffles. Solid entree and very filling. Service was attentive, but not overpowering and allowed our group to enjoy the conversation. There are so many options and categories to choose from that even the pickiest eater will find something they like! Enjoyed this spot and would recommend!

This place is a local gem! It's a perfect spot to go with family or with friends. Food: I got the corned beef hash with potatoes. The hash was good flavor-wise but I wish the beef was portioned a little smaller so it could blend better. The eggs were solid but eggs are pretty solid everywhere. 7.5/10. Ambiance: So cute and there are just such great vibes here! The staff is very friends and it's a lovely local place. We went on a weekend and it was packed so you know it's reliable 8.5/10. Price: Pricing is pretty standard for a brunch place. My meal was about $15 and I was decently full 8/10. Would definitely go ahead if I'm in the area!

This used to be my favorite diner while I was in college. Went back for a visit after many years. I was sad they didn't have the grilled blueberry muffin but all our food tasted the same as before! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Lovely place in a cute neighborhood.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance of the restaurant was nice and calm.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We got seated very quickly and our waitress was very lovely and attentive. The only bad thing about Johnny's was their home fries were just plain potatoes with no seasoning. I would recommend just changing the name to potato wedges.

Classic diner food in Newton with a classic diner ambiance on the interior. Lacking the grease and townie/local charm of other diners in the northeast. Also has outdoor seating available in the warmer months. We arrived at peak Sunday brunch time and had to wait about 30 minutes for a table but were handed a buzzer. The wait ended up being even less than 30 minutes, seems like there's quick turnover. The menu was extensive and features many classic diner breakfast and lunch options, some with a twist. I had the grilled blueberry muffin which hit the spot. Portions were smaller than typical old school diner portions but food was as expected overall. A step in between the classic greasy American diner and a boutique brunch establishment.

We also got the gluten free pasta carbonara (great that they have so many gluten free options for pasta and pizza! major plus), pepperoni pizza (thin crust, very nice crunch), and a bolognese (also good, just a little salty). Also appreciated the customer service. I needed to heat up a bottle for my infant, and they went and got me a bowl of hot water. They also moved some chairs out of the way initially so that we could navigate the restaurant better, and were generally on top of service throughout the night. Really appreciated it!

Immediately seated and waiter(didn't say is name) stated they were busy today and number of items unavailable - no pizza dough(no pizzas at all), no marinated olives, no grilled bread with mussels dish, no ciabatta toast with pesto dish. We ordered drinks, and one came quickly. had to ask another wait staff for remaining drinks 10 minutes later. Ordered appetizers, then placed main order. 15 minutes go by, and I see three dishes under heating lamp. Five minutes later those three dishes and another were brought to our table. My paccheri bolangnese was cold, and prepared with spacatelli pasta - waiter neglected to state out of all pastas but spacatelli. My wife's roasted chicken was very dry(too long under heating lamp?). My son ordered the spacatelli al pesto, but he was mistakenly given spacatelli bolognese. He prefers not to eat meat. We sent that back and ten minutes later he received his correct order. The restaurant was scheduled to close at 10 PM. I can only imagine service and choices given to people with later reservation. MIDA didn't deserve one star, but that option is not offered. you MIDAwant to chose another restaurant if you expect better!

Post-COVID, life looks a little different. I've changed jobs and moved to another town, so it's no longer the easy drop-in it once was. Still, I make a point to come back at least every few months. What hasn't changed is the consistency. This remains one of the most reliably excellent restaurants in the Boston area, and still one of my all-time top five--while others that once held that spot haven't quite held up. One thing has changed, though: the Ghost of Mary. Scotty, the former bar manager, created what's still my favorite cocktail of all time. When he left, the drink left with him (by mutual agreement), and while he generously shared the recipe with me, I've never quite managed to recreate it at home. It was clearly meant to be made by the expert. That said, Sycamore hasn't missed a beat. The space is still as comfortable and quirky as ever, the food remains consistently excellent, and the current bar program is in very capable hands. The cocktails are thoughtful and well-executed--just maybe don't remind me about the one I'm missing

Sycamore is SPECTACULAR!!!…read more Newton centre is probably one of my favorite cities for date night and afternoon shopping. They have some great places to shop and dine and Sycamore is one of them. We have been here multiple times and everytime is better than the last. From the Managers greeting to the service, and atomosphere, Sycamore sure knows how to make customers feel seen and heard and their bellies happy :) We came here after attending a wine tasting not far from here and were able to grab some bar seats. They have a great cocktail and wine list; I always have a hard time choosing just one. I went with a vodka drink called Nothing Rhymes Orange and my husband had a beer. Since we were not that hungry he ordered the Chorizo Croquettas and I had my favorite salad in the world (not kidding) their Kale Salad. Let me just tell you 1. if you don't like kale, you will love this salad. Just the way they make it and the flavors/crunch will make your mouth water 2. you will eat the whole thing. 3. trust me. If there is one app that you need to order its the chorizo croquettas, OMG. They are like little small drops of heaven and there are only 3 so if you plan to share I would recommend ordering more than just one. For dessert, we ordered an Espresso Martini. The only thing that was missing is the coffee beans but still good. Thanks Sycamore for another fabulous dinner and evening. Thanks Kale Salad for being the best ever. I know I will be back for another one sometime soon. Cheers~
