Came for breakfast with the family , just amazing old school diner . Great breakfast place , service was great and the food was amazing ! Had the pastrami scramble with onions and cheese so goooood ! We shared blueberry pancakes Can't wait to come back for lunch :)

The place was buzzing with activity, good smells and people working hard. The food was good but service great! I had a pastrami scramble which was good, my husband had a Lobster Rachel and the others had spicy chicken omelet and spinach omelet. I am visiting from LA and this place reminders me LA. Cool decor and good service. I was excited about how fast the food was served.

Turkey dinner & steak tips. L

I never thought that this would happen where this restaurant became mediocre but today had the turkey dinner. It was huge three huge slices of turkey, but I think it's deli, turkey sliced thick. It was very salty, and the gravy tasted canned and the cranberry sauce had no flavor. I think it was just left in the kitchen fridge since last November. Service was good and the place is clean, but disappointed, my friend also got steak tips and thought the only thing that was good on the dish was the mashed potatoes..

This place is 50's style starting with the exterior of the luncheonette right down to the counter and booths. I set down at the counter and had to wait for server. The man responsible for the booths also handled the counter. I had an omelette with cantaloupe, no toast or hash browns. The substitution was free. I had the south of the border omelette; salsa, guacamole, jalapeño peppers and cheese. The omelette had to be three eggs. I don't know what they do to get them so fluffy. There is a parking lot out front. The potion size was healthy. I would return in the future.

A retro, old school diner in the heart of Newton Centre. I came here on a weekend for brunch, right after the breakfast rush. We didn't have to wait too long for a table and took some time deciding what to get. The menu has great variety it was difficult to choose because I wanted to try so many dishes. I opted for the truffle Benny that came with side of potatoes as well as pancakes and tater tots to share. The Benedict was cooked perfectly with oozing egg yolk and had crispy potatoes. The pancakes are huge, super sweet, and fluffy. The service was quick even during the busy brunch rush. I'll definitely be back to try an omelette and a one of their mini milkshakes. Overall, I'd recommend coming to try if you're in the area.

Johnny's Luncheonette is a quintecenntial 50's style diner that transports you back in time to a place of joyful nostalgia. The interior decor is enhanced by the class photos from the local junior high school. You just feel a welcoming and charming vibe as soon as you enter. We easily found metered street parking a few storefronts from the restaurant entrance. We arrived as a party of 5 on a Tuesday morning and had no trouble getting a larger booth in the back. No waiting. The server promptly greeted us and served hot coffee for everyone in our party. The breakfast options are plentiful. I ordered The Waverly - two potato latkes served with two eggs any style (scrambled) and sliced smoked salmon, sour cream and grilled tomatoes. It is definitely a lot of food for one person, which makes this entree sharable in my opinion. My dining companion ordered the chicken and waffles. Solid entree and very filling. Service was attentive, but not overpowering and allowed our group to enjoy the conversation. There are so many options and categories to choose from that even the pickiest eater will find something they like! Enjoyed this spot and would recommend!

This place is a local gem! It's a perfect spot to go with family or with friends. Food: I got the corned beef hash with potatoes. The hash was good flavor-wise but I wish the beef was portioned a little smaller so it could blend better. The eggs were solid but eggs are pretty solid everywhere. 7.5/10. Ambiance: So cute and there are just such great vibes here! The staff is very friends and it's a lovely local place. We went on a weekend and it was packed so you know it's reliable 8.5/10. Price: Pricing is pretty standard for a brunch place. My meal was about $15 and I was decently full 8/10. Would definitely go ahead if I'm in the area!

This used to be my favorite diner while I was in college. Went back for a visit after many years. I was sad they didn't have the grilled blueberry muffin but all our food tasted the same as before! Lovely place in a cute neighborhood.

The ambiance of the restaurant was nice and calm. We got seated very quickly and our waitress was very lovely and attentive. The only bad thing about Johnny's was their home fries were just plain potatoes with no seasoning. I would recommend just changing the name to potato wedges.

Classic diner food in Newton with a classic diner ambiance on the interior. Lacking the grease and townie/local charm of other diners in the northeast. Also has outdoor seating available in the warmer months. We arrived at peak Sunday brunch time and had to wait about 30 minutes for a table but were handed a buzzer. The wait ended up being even less than 30 minutes, seems like there's quick turnover. The menu was extensive and features many classic diner breakfast and lunch options, some with a twist. I had the grilled blueberry muffin which hit the spot. Portions were smaller than typical old school diner portions but food was as expected overall. A step in between the classic greasy American diner and a boutique brunch establishment.

The first thing that stood out was the portion size and value. For around $7.50 you get two scoops of ice cream with whipped cream, a cherry, and a topping of your choice, which already feels generous. If you go for the regular size, you actually get three scoops, which makes it even better for sharing. There are so many flavors available, and we were happy to see that many of the ice creams are eggless, which is great for vegetarians. The texture of the ice cream was incredibly creamy, and the coffee ice cream was especially delicious with a rich, smooth flavor. We also tried the nachos, which were surprisingly really good and made a nice savory snack before dessert. Between the big portions, classic ice cream flavors, and nostalgic dessert-parlor vibe, Cabot's definitely feels like a local hidden gem in the Newtonville area. If you're around Newton or Boston and want a satisfying ice cream dessert, this place is worth checking out.

We had about a 20-30 min wait for a table and explored the area and shops on the block while we waited. When we got seated we cruised the menu and ordered the following: APPETIZERS - chicken karaage - our order came with crispy chicken however lacked seasoning and was a bit over cooked and dry. - okonomiyaki-styled tater tots - the BEST appetizer we ordered, needed a pinch of salt, but flavor wise with the bonito flakes and sauce it was a hit! - green papaya salad this needed more seasoning, mortared herbs and chilis maybe tomatoes and garlic. Pass next time. RAMEN - miso ramen for the kiddo and she enjoyed it. She can't eat spicy so this was a very mild ramen. Didn't think the miso flavor came thru but she enjoyed it. - spicy miso ramen the lady got this one and i tried a some, the broth was lacking a bit of depth today. It's not spicy so normally I'd say even the non-spicy crowd probably would be able to handle it. The broth just tasted more watery was looking for the punch of flavor. Now the noodles were chewy and had great bounce to them, the char siu pork cuts were tender and melt in your mouth! - chef's ultra ramen - this broth definitely was the better broth out of all the ramens in my opinion with plenty of proteins and more depth of flavor, umami, smokiness, smelled great too. - spicy tan tan the brother got this one, it's typically what i would normally go for, he enjoyed it, not too spicy either, could use some more crunchy garlic with the chili oil. Overall would come back to give it another go, perhaps the heavy dinner rush some things got lost in the cooking on certain dishes.

They have the option of take out too! We got a couple appetizers to try & each got a different ramen. Here's what we ordered: APPETIZERS - chicken karaage - okonomiyaki-styled tater tots - green papaya salad RAMEN - miso ramen - spicy miso ramen - chef's ultra ramen - spicy tan tan ramen Thoughts: I thought the appetizer portions were pretty generous! A lot more than we were all expecting. I was pretty much already full before the ramens came out. Wasn't a big fan of the green papaya salad. It was missing some flavor. We all thought that it would be better if it had some tomatoes & garlic. Didn't seem like they used a mortar to ground the aromatics or anything, since the sauce just tasted like fish sauce and lime. The chicken karaage was okay. Wish there was more sauce to dip the chicken with. Chicken was also on the drier side. The tater tots were the best appetizer of the three we ordered, IMO. If you like takoyaki balls, you'll like this because it has similar sauces + bonito flakes. Ours needed some salt though. As for the ramens, I personally had the spicy miso ramen. It was missing a lot of depth in the broth that I would've liked to see (& taste). I didn't taste any miso to be honest. Salt was needed too. The highlights for the ramen were the chashu & corn. I loved that they used fresh corn! The chashu had the perfect amount of fattiness & almost melted in my mouth. The noodles were nice and chewy. The broth was just disappointing though. For the other ramens, everyone enjoyed the one they ordered. I tried a little of the chef's ultra ramen & the broth was much better than my spicy miso. Btw, the spicy miso ramen is not spicy at all for anyone who is hesitant & cannot do overly spicy foods. The food was a bit disappointing for me. I came in with high expectations with all the good reviews I read beforehand. Not terrible but not great.

There's almost something cozy about a place like this. Knotty P. has all the diner signs: worn counter, people yapping, the waitress taking orders non-stop, booths aren't huge, aisles are tiny (good luck getting to your seat) and the special scrape sound of the large metal spatula touching the steel flattop. If you don't mind sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with the regulars, then the counter is your spot. The only 2 seats available were at the counter and we snagged them. The breakfast potatoes are exactly what you want them to be: crispy-edges and golden- these have a little heat kick- not too much- but just enough to keep you going for another bite. As non-meat eaters, we appreciated how the cook keeps the sausages in their own territory (something is something I guess) from the omelettes, pancakes, etc. Then there's the energy- fast and a little loud in the best way. And right in the middle of it, is Ileana who has that special spark and every beat, timed.
