Based on yelp and google reviews, I was really excited to try this spot out. The idea of ordering first before sitting down is awesome to streamline the experience. However, after ordering we waited over 40 minutes for our food which seems excessive even with the busy hours. The staff were all super nice and helpful. The bacon was so good with the crispiness but everything else was just ok. There wasn't any seasoning on any of the food and missed that "special diner touch"

Maybe it was my mistake for trying to go on a solo brunch at 11 AM on a Saturday, but John's cafe was packed. I ordered weblish chantels, and the food was pretty mid. It was pricey, and again overwhelmingly packed.

Came for the first time today as my girlfriend insisted we try this place out based on reviews. Was incredibly underwhelmed. I was sold on the cleanliness but nothing that really concerns me especially for a diner Food wasn't really anything to write home about nor something I couldn't best on my own which can be expected from diners but we had a significant wait time and the coffee was the most watered down - bummer it didn't pan out as the staff was all fairly friendly and helpful

This is a neighborhood diner that makes delicious fresh food based on your order-not pre-made. Service is fast and friendly. Ambiance is clean and has Dallas News articles on the wall about this Diner. The owner uses fresh food that he grows from his own backyard and you can taste the difference! The lemons he grows and uses in his iced tea are ENORMOUS! Great place to go for breakfast or lunch!

Absolute gem tucked away in lower Greenville! This is our second time here and the food is AMAZING! So simple yet delicious the short stack is so juicy and tasty and the biscuit is just as good! Absolutely love this place :)

This spot has been in business over 50 years. None of the frills and pretense. It's 4 walls with a kitchen tables and people that all seem to know each other. They let the food speak for itself. You walk up to the counter, order your food, have a seat and they'll bring it out. The food was all from scratch. The biscuits were the star on my plate. Thick light and fluffy. But don't let that take anything away from that chicken fried steak! (Insert "yum" emoji). You know what, just go. Their slogan says it all "Just good food".

Very busy place. They won't let you sit at a table until after you order. They cook your food and call out your number when your meal is done. The food was under seasoned. I ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast combo ( the gravy tasted like cream of chicken from the can and the scrambled eggs and fried potatoes were without seasoning)the toast was toasted perfectly but they don't give you butter or jelly. Restaurant was very busy so we felt rushed. It was a one timer for us

This was everything I needed on a Saturday morning. It reminds me of the diners back home in the small town where I grew up. They are efficient, affordable, and the food was exactly what I wanted. Only telling people I really like about this amazing place.

Old school diner type cafe...no frills, but the counter employee was friendly and I'm excited to see if the food lives up to the reviews. FYI - You order at the counter before finding your seat. Food was very good. Bacon was crispy and the potatoes were well seasoned. No complaints at all and would repeat.

Over the years, They have added grilled items that are quite tasty, but Ima go for the fried anything along with mashies, baked beans, etc. The chicken and dumplings are heaven on earth anytime of the year. Prices are decent, considering the economy these days. If you dine in, there's staff that are happy to help you get your grub to the table, will make sure you have butter and honey for the fluffy buns, and smile no matter how busy it gets. Today, I had a doctor's appointment nearby and looked forward to a return visit. Unfortunately my food was disappointing. I ordered 3 eggs, cinnamon roll and coffee. The best part of the meal was the coffee which was tasty and fresh. The eggs were good. Nothing special but hot and tasty. However, the cinnamon roll - which is the reason I came here - was tasteless and very stale. I won't be back. I can get coffee and average eggs anywhere. If they are serving stale pastries, the place is no longer special.

Actually, everybody working was super friendly. I ordered the chicken fried BLT and she got the chicken fried steak. Our main entrées were great. She ordered sides of broccoli, fried okra and mac & cheese and I got a side of onion rings and then we also had the rolls and cornbread. The fried okra and bread were great. I appreciated that they gave us plenty of butter for the bread! The mac & cheese and onion rings were not very good. I will say she told me that they can be inconsistent with quality, but since they have a newer chef, things are getting better. I will definitely be back and try more things on the menu. as far as the mac & cheese, it was not very flavorful and the pasta was way overcooked. The onion rings were also way overcooked or frozen or something too. It's hard to explain, but they were tough. I did enjoy my sandwich though! I also really wanna try the pie, It looks amazing. I also thought the texas/americana decor was very cute.

After a minute or two, our waitress welcomed us and seated us in the back of the restaurant. It was a little surprising since there weren't many customers and there were plenty of open tables and booths up front where everyone else was sitting. That said, our waitress was wonderful. She was friendly, attentive, and made our dining experience enjoyable from start to finish. I ordered the chicken fried steak with two over-medium eggs and hash browns, along with a side of biscuits and gravy. The coffee was pretty average, but that's something I've come to expect from many restaurants. Unfortunately, the food itself was disappointing. My eggs were undercooked, the chicken fried steak lacked seasoning and flavor, and the hash browns were also pretty bland. The standout, however, was the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were buttery and soft on the inside with perfectly crisp edges, and the gravy was delicious. They were easily the best thing we ordered. While I wasn't impressed with the rest of the meal, I'd honestly come back just for the biscuits and gravy. They were absolutely worth it.
