No Mozzarella for the meatball sub...but they sell pizza,,,hmmmm...i even said I would pay extra....not an option, slightly disappointed that I only got 5 meatballs on a large vs the 6 that should be w/ a full size sub...asked that the bun be toasted 1st....again not an option....sodas are expensive....salads are fresh but very boring.... read more

BEST chicken Parmesan sandwich and pizza in Baltimore. Period. The people behind the counter (friendly as can be!) say they make the sauce themselves. I believe it. Do not miss this place. My only regret is that the location is far from anything convenient in the city. read more

Unfortunately, the worst meal we've ever gotten from there and we've been going there many years. Asked for an Italian cold cut on a sub roll - came on something like French bread, tons of onions and not a lot of meat. My cheesesteak was the same way - not a lot of meat, not chopped up like a typical cheesesteak, too many onions, very soggy roll - I had to throw most of it away. Mozzarella sticks were mostly breading, not warm, and they were not in the bag when I left. I should have checked before I walked out, but you trust your entire order will be in there. So I drove back to get them - If they didn't cost so much ($7), I wouldn't have bothered. Total waste of $30 - will not be going back. read more

I use to order from them almost everyday, but not anymore. My order was messed up and when I called and spoke to the owner I believe about my issue I got screamed at, hung up on at 3 times, and was told WELL WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO WALK THE SANDWICH DOWN TO YOU. This place is in my hometown! I absolutely love coming home and getting their shrimp salad! Their cold cuts are enormous! Chicken salad and pizza is great too! I love the Italian sausage pizza. I can't wait until the summer to eat there! Miss it so much! Nothing compares! read more

We have gotten food from here a few times, my husband likes their Italian Cold Cut sub. We ordered food tonight. I was reading some reviews and people were praising the shrimp salad. So I thought I would try that. I ordered the shrimp salad sub, the menu said "market price". I didn't bother to ask how much because, I mean how much could a shrimp salad sub be at local joint. Well when my husband went to pick up our order and the order came to almost $50 my husband was like wow! The lady said, well the shrimp salad was almost $20! However when he got home, the receipt was in the bag and the sub was actually $21.25!! Outrageous! To top that off it was just average. It had a lot of mayonaise, the shrimp were large, but it didn't have much taste beyond that. So buyer beware, if you want to order the Shrimp salad, ask the price before you get sticker shock! read more

I have ordered John's italian cold cut every time I go there and thats been since the late 70's. Both my son and I got a craving for those subs again and went down Saturday evening and ordered 2 italian cold cuts with the works and our fries n gravy. I was so disappointed from the 1st bite. Tasted like the meats were previously frozen. Both of us ate barely 1/2 of a 1/2 of sub and the 2nd sub made it to the trash. For me, thats the end of a great run in John's Italian Deli. I had the Italian cold cut combo (w/fries and a drink). First of all the sub is huge! Plate size..You can barely get your mouth around it :o ! and the fries are also a huge order. 2 people can actually split a combo and just purchase an extra drink. or do what we did and take 1/2 home for later :) The roll was fresh and the sub contained plenty of high quality meats and cheeses, hots, fresh and crisp thinly sliced onions, lettuce and tomato, mayo, and this amazing dressing with parmesan, oil, and spices. A perfectly balanced and tasty cold cut. The fries were not greasy, clean tasting, and had the right amount of crispiness. The staff is friendly. The place is small and their is limited parking. i heard that this place can be busy at times. we came at an off time (around 1:30) so we got a booth, ordered, and chowed down shortly after that...Oh, and you can get a side of gravy or cheese w/your fries! Love the pizza here. Salads are good too, including shrimp salad and Greek. Also get good cheese steak subs occasionally. Desserts are delicious, especially cheesecake and rice pudding. Also, has a nice selection of olives. Overall, a great place for a quick meal or takeout. read more

After looking at the reviews, I now add mine. I grew up in this area, and got subs from John's since the 70's. They were great then. In later years, I worked for them PT and was behind the scenes, observing the quality of the product and how the business was being run. It was pretty good up to around 2000. Even before the mysterious fire, the foods had changed. The meats were not as good, and the subs and sandwiches were thinning, while the prices got hiked to ludicrous. If you are going to charge the money, don't give me low quality and quality, then bulk it up with a deluge of lettuce and onions. I gave them multiple chances to redeem themselves, and after the last Italian CC I had over these last few years, I finally decided I'm done. They just don't care anymore. Too bad. I had frequented Johns Italian Deli many times years ago and the cheesesteak subs were the best. I moved out of area but recently was in the neighborhood so stopped in and saw the deli had been remodeled. There were customers seated at tables. I went to counter and placed my order for a cheesesteak sub was told would be called when my order was ready. It didn't take long to realize this was a mistake. Its served like an open faced sandwich piled toppings making it difficult to eat. The roll was cold not toasted and the meat was in big pieces, tomatoes cut thick, grilled onions, and melted provalone was thick on top. What good is it to have it served open faced and you can't properly close the sub roll to eat without toppings falling all on plate. It was not a good cheesesteak sub not good flavor or taste and have had better. It was very messy need lots of napkins. It was a big disappointment. The only reason I'm giving it one star is because there's no option to give it zero. The food is average. But I'm mainly here for the customer service, which is AWFUL. The woman answering phones has a completely horrible, condescending tone in her voice. She really shouldn't be in customer service at all. I didn't catch her name but this was today around 6:20pm. TERRIBLE service. And I work in customer service so I don't normally leave bad reviews because I know how it feels! But are you kidding me!!!! How rude can she be!!? This place is no longer worth it. They jacked up their prices and cut down on the amount of food you get. I went there for lunch last week and was surprised at the bill when they rung up my order. But no big deal, I figured some things are worth the money and I could see how after all these years they could be due for a raise. The huge disappointment was when the food came out.
