Excellent food and service. OK it's not quintessential New York pizza (save that for NYC). It is absolutely top-of-line in the Poconos. We ordered for delivery- wings, calamari, pepperoni and sausage pizzas. Our food was delivered to Newfoundland outskirts within the time promised and it was hot and tasted wonderful! The delivery guy was pleasant. Great performance - will be repeat customers and urge you to tip handsomely. read more

The food is OK, and we have been going there for quick pizza for several years. However many of the staff there now are less than helpful and even downright rude. A few miles away in Hamlin there is a different John's Italian (the two are not related) that is much better and worth an extra few minutes drive. read more

Couldn't find The original Johns on Yelp, so ill add their review here. Some of the food is decent, some is downright terrible. The service was friendly, but slow. The fried calamari is gross as was the scallops...actually, come to think of it, anything with seafood was pretty bad. What was good? The bread, salad, pea and French onion soup, hamburger and the wings...which we were pretty sure we knew exactly how they made them. We won't spoil it for them. A long day of trucking and just barely made it to a safe park location I decided to order takeout since I would be held up at a the I-84 westbound rest area. There weren't many places to decide from. I came across John's Italian restaurant and said to myself I'll order something common so it can't get messed up. I went with a plain pie and a dozen boneless honey bbq wings. For starters it took the 2 and 1/2 hours to deliver the food. I knew it would be warm at best and anticipated that. I believe the pizza would've been good if it was hot when I received it but as far as the boneless wings go they were horrible. They must have a bottle of pre made honey bbq sauce that they lathered the wings in and just threw them in with a metal container. The boneless wings were also over cooked and majority were tough to chew as if they were old or prepared in the day and sat out. I didn't finish my meal and decided to sleep off my frustration. I will honestly go to sleep hungry if it means I have to order from here again. read more

They put us on the other side of the restaurant, and there was nobody else there...so the service was very slow...The waitress was ok, but the manager or owner, or whatever he is the rudest person in the USA. I enjoy their pizza we are regulars, the girls are always so friendly and we're now at the point that they know it's us simply by the toppings we order on our pizza every week. Stopped by for a quick breakfast and coffee and needed coffee bad. Coffee tasted great! Got a little breakfast while we were there and it really wasn't bad. Pretty tasty and grilled tomatoes!!!!! Went with a party of seven today for lunch. A big mistake !!! Five of us were served while two others sat and waited.We were served one basket of bread which was not enough to go around. We had to ask the waitress to take a soda order which she had forgotten to ask for.I have been going to John's in Hamlin for more over 20 years and I regret not taken my guest there today. Disappointed! If I could give NO stars I would. We had a party of 10 which included a toddler. We ordered appetizers, one didn't come out at all(soup)and the other (calamari) was brought out with the grilled cheese for the toddler AFTER the two pizzas which was for the rest of the guests. When the calamari did come out, we advised we no longer want it since we had already had eaten the wet, doughy pizza and instead of leaving it due to the error, she took it away and said we will take it off your bill along with the soup we never received. We didn't receive any utensils, no napkins and not enough large plates. The waitress almost seemed aggravated we got the napkins and plates our selves. They told us they would take 10% off the bill, but it was only off the food. When we asked to see the Owner, Nick he approached us aggressively and his first words were "what's the problem"and didn't want to hear the feedback from his guests and turned around and walked away...very unprofessional as an owner. Our dinner experience was ruined with our guests from out of state and as a frequent patron to the area, we will no longer support this business. We plan to try Vinny's next time we would like pizza. read more

BAD SERVICE, 2 Hour wait, separated at two tables with 6ppl, waitress gave four ppl their salads and never came back to see that he never gave the other two their salads, then waitress came out with 20 different plates of food almost none of which we ordered!! Which we only found that out because we asked for two plates wrapped up because the two without salads left after 40 minutes of waiting with no food or service, and she came out with EVERYONES plates wrapped and the check with the 20 orders we didn't even want. Seemed like a good option right off I-84 but it was not. $20 entrees but they have pealing red duct tape on the cracks in the seats. Everything in the front of the dining room has faded from sun exposure. I'm sure they haven't updated anything this century, at least. I ordered seafood and it came out undercook. Not just undercooked, it was cold on the inside with no sear. They either threw it in the microwave or in a bot of boiling water for 10 seconds. I sent it back and refused to order anything else. My wife's overcooked salmon was swimming in the water from the side of broccoli, which came out as one giant piece and which they forgot to strain. The iceberg lettuce pile they called a salad was brown on the edges. The mozzarella sticks were over fried. The toilets in the bathroom are leaking all over the place. read more

Now I have to bump my review down to a lower 1 star, I am dumbfounded by how bad this place is. Yesterday we didnt feel like cooking so we thought alright lets get some mediocor pizza for dinner. I call to order two pies, one half plain half pepperonia and the other with mushrooms, onion and steak meat, they proceed to tell me the closest thing to steak meat they have is meatballs. Went to johns to eat on our way back from wallyfest.very dissatisfied all the way around.mild wings were made with spaghetti sauce and hot sauce,not too awful burgers came out raw and unedible,cheese steak was given to someone else first when I did get it there were no onions mushrooms or sauce.when I questioned it itold them I would be happy with just the sauce,it was thrown on sloppily .as I finished eating it I found it to be soaked in grease.DISGUSTING.we complained and were treated smartly by the girls up front and told the best they could do was 20%off the bill,wound up paying $32 for food we couldn't eat.i have my boat on the lake nearby and have been there before,but I will never eat there again and will be sure to let others know how I feel.STAY AWAY read more

I guess Ken H. never tasted their veal and peppers over angelhair, or their ziti and broccoli. They are the best anywhere, and I have eaten everywhere. Not a fancy place, but those two dinners are out of this world. We drive up from Scranton just for those dinners. No one makes the ziti and broccoli like Nicki does. Its a very light fresh, crushed tomato sauce with lots of garlic and tons of broccoli. Prices are resonable, salad is decent and the bread is served hot. What more do you want. read more

This review is for the excellent service I get when I go to John's 507 Restaurant, in Greentown, PA. Wait staff is always friendly. Moreover, they have REAL ITALIAN PASTRIES!! They get them from Middletown (NY). I recently called for a platter of miniature pastries, and just mentioned that I wanted them for a wedding. I gave just a few days notice. When I went to pick them up, expecting them to be in boxes, I was surprised to find a beautiful platter waiting for me. And, the pastries were fresh! And, affordable! This is not the first time I have ordered them there. And, I can count on them for St. Joseph's pastries in March!!! read more

Amazing food! Looks can be deceiving... The first time we came we went right when we walked in and ended up eating at the bar. Ordered delicious food and the service was great. This was our second time... Walked in and turned left.. Sat in the restaurant area and had a good time! The appearance is dated but the staff is very friendly and helpful but most importantly... The food is amazing. Our server explained to us the difference between tomato sauce and marinara and her passion and excitement about the food made out experience extremely positive. I am gluten free and their pasta is so good that I have questioned if it is truly GF, and it is!!! They also have GF pizza that I have not tried. The only reason they made it to 2 stars is because the staff is friendly and the pizza, while not great, isn't too bad. My wife's Filet of Sole was poorly cooked. As far as quality and authentic Italian it leaves much to be desired. Our waitress didn't know what even simple sauces were. She knew butter and "red", but beyond that was lost. When asked what kind of deserts they had she said "a bunch". Just wasn't impressed. read more

I don't know what half of these people are talking about with the bad reviews. I have been to this restaurant quite a few times, and the pizza, steak sandwiches, wings and fries are awesome. I went to the other johns in Hamlin, and just from the pizza, my entire family became sick. This johns in greentown has great food, good prices, and there is 1 waiter there, I think his name is Tyler, is THE BEST. He is always so nice to all of us, and he constantly checks up to see if we need anything. Moving here from NJ, I was scared we wouldn't find a decent pizza place, but we did. read more

Got stuck in a snowstorm and was unable to get home due to highway closures. John's Italian Restaurant and their staff was absolutely amazing and allowed us to stay there overnight until we were able to get home the next day. They took in twenty of us who were stranded, and provided us with amazing food and drinks. The workers were even kind enough to bring us blankets and board games. I cannot thank them enough for their hospitality. I will continue to stop by John's Italian Restaurant every time I drive home now, even if it is just for a tasty pastry or a hot cup of coffee. The staff was incredible, and I can wholeheartedly say that the experience was unforgettable. The lunch, dinner, and breakfast menus (I can actually say that I tried them all) are fantastic, and the portion size for the price is second to none. HIGHLY recommend.
