Today I took my Mom to Johnston's Automotive with her 2008 Toyota Corolla; as she was had concerns with a loud rattling noise. The gentleman that assisted us was extremely helpful, he was able to put her car up on the lift immediately to diagnose the issue. It turns out the heat shield underneath had become loose causing the noise she had been hearing. He was able to have the issue remedied in under 5 minutes and was nice enough to do all of this at no charge. My Mom was so impressed with the service that she received, she will be returning for all future scheduled maintenance and repairs. After springing an oil leak from an unknown source I was referred to Johnston's Automotive, the claim being they were fairly priced and honest. They took my vehicle in, knowing I had no clue what the source of the leak was and that I had been told by the car wash/oil change joint that a "gasket" had gone out. A few minutes after handing my keys over the technician returned saying there was no leak, and the only issue was the previous location had made a mess when changing my oil and didn't clean it up. Mike then kindly informed me there was no fee for the inspection and sent me on my way. They could have easily scammed me, or even charged me for the "inspection," but true to the referral, they were fair and honest! They will be my new car care center! read more

I've been bringing my vehicles to Johnston's for a good 17-18 years. This is my third vehicle in that time period and I don't trust anyone to work on it but them. Locally owned and operated, Dwight, Rod and now Mike are good honest guys who will not charge you for nor suggest any unnecessary repairs. The shop is at 24th St. and Osborn and I live in Chandler but I make the trek because I trust them. They will even provide me a one way ride to my office in Scottsdale if need be. March 4, 2015. I do my own mechanic work for over 25 yrs, and it's difficult finding a shop on the rare occasion I have some repairs, that can't be done myself. After one shop tried pulling a fast-one on me, by telling me they couldn't do an alignment, because my car needed a full front end rebuild, with new ball joints, and tie-rod ends (which was a total lie), I kept looking and found Johnston's. My wife and I have been coming here for about two years now. They're always super helpful and are priced competitively. Just a couple weeks ago I had an issue with my car's wheel locks and wheel key breaking apart (apparently cheap parts from an auto parts store that rusted out). They had a tech look at it and had the wheel locks pulled in less than 10 minutes, all while Cheri and I had a nice conversation. They're really friendly and professional at the same time. A few weeks ago I took my vehicle in to the dealer to have a recall repair. They fixed the recall and then told me that they also did a "courtesy inspection", and I needed about $2200 worth of maintenance performed. I decided to take the list of maintenance issues to Johnston's for a "second opinion". They thoroughly looked at all my fluids, spark plugs, etc and told me that everything looked absolutely fine. The one star is deserved given that they fixed the problem I went in there for... HOWEVER, when it comes to customer SAFETY, that is NOT on their list. I took my vehicle in for an A/C repair and before I took it in, I had NO noise to my power steering, and NO LEAK. Those are FACTS! Now the day they fixed my car, NOTHING was told to me about any leak when they called to tell me the issue with my A/C, NO MENTION of a leak when they called to tell me my car was finished, and when I went to finally pick up my car at 5:08pm according to my receipt, STILL no mention of a leak. So I left the lot and the VERY next day I have a nasty sound when I turn the wheel AND a leak underneath my car. When my husband took it back that next morning, they claimed "I" declined those repairs. (Remember, I was never told of any leak, so how can I decline something that was NEVER brought to my attention and given the option to decline or not) Turns out I had a leak in my power steering pressure hose which was noted on my invoice under "Declined Repairs" (which again, I didn't decline) and it was never told to me over the phone or in person about this leak and what caused it. So I went later in the day after work to ask them myself. The guy at the front, (tall, skinny) apologized that he failed to go over those notes with me. The mechanic who worked on my car said he didn't notice the leak until he started working on it. The OWNER claims the leak was already there. Not only are they calling me a liar trying to tell me my car was leaving puddles before I brought it in, but MR JOHNSTON was being VERY rude! So I was being told multiple stories as to when they themselves discovered the leak and Cheri lied and said I declined those repairs when I was NEVER given that option and they let me drive off the lot with this BLEEDING POWER STEERING FLUID without having the courtesy to warn me about it except jotting it on the invoice for me to find out myself. The guy at the front desk said he forgot because it was late in the day, the shop closes at 5:30pm. The OWNER said I came after hours when I explained to them I wouldn't be there till 5:15pm the latest given that I was at work but instead I got there at 5:08pm and MR JOHNSTON claims that's after hours. I would avoid this auto shop because they certainly DO NOT care about your safety or the carefulness of taking care of your car. I understand I have many miles on my car, I understand that new problems may arise or be discovered while working on ANY vehicle, but for them to not talk to me about a MAJOR issue and not give me the option to schedule a time to fix that issue, is not good auto business to me and therefore, I will NOT be returning. I took my girlfriends car here to have her front suspension looked at and to get an oil change. Getting the oil changed was cheaper than her usual place and they did a very thorough inspection of her front suspension. After they finished, they called and told us what was wrong with it. Not only that they also took pictures of it to show us. Also, they kept the car on the lift to show us since we were already close by. They were very friendly and honest. If you want to buy a used or new vehicle (new vehicles sometimes have problems), you can bring it to them and they will do a full inspection for $120 to let you know if the vehicle you are buying is worth the cost. They said if a dealership refuses to have the vehicle inspected to walk away. read more

All the good reviews on this business are true. What a pleasant experience to find an honest place to entrust your car to. The people are a so nice to deal with. I called early in the morning to ask about putting on a new tire and then aligning the car. Fit me in(place looked packed when I arrived) and got my car back a couple hours later, even took me home and picked me back up(though I wouldn't have minded waiting in their lounge, being so clean and comfortable).
