Fried tofu bun with French fries
    Cheryl W.

When I chose this establishment it was from a recommendation. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with the food. The Korean fried chicken lacked flavor, the shrimp fried rice was just ok, and the French fries were tasteless and did not belong with my tofu pork buns. However, the fried shrimp were perfect. Service was good and the setting was very pleasant. I was really hoping for better.

It was a lovely outdoor dining experience. They have a nice dining space on the North lawn of the Domain and we were seated promptly. The food came out quite fast and some of the dishes that were most enjoyed were the truffle chicken potsticker, the lobster taco and the Korean Spicy chicken. The lemon tart for dessert was bright and tart in the very best way. It was my favorite bite of the night and I'm not even a dessert person! We only ordered small plates because that was the vibe we were going for during our meal but they also have entrees listed (we will try next time). They have a nice variety of bar drinks and the whole experience felt relaxed, not rushed, and just lovely. The restaurants around the seemed loud and chaotic but Joi was chill and relaxed. I'd come back for the ambience alone. The service was great. We had a few different people come to our table and they were all excellent. This is a great addition to the Domain. It's right next to Paul Martins, in front of the lawn by the red heart and across from the Apple Store.

Food was good, flavorful and served hot, nothing to rave about but it was not bad. I'd probably rank it a solid 6.5/10. The service was solid as well, not bad but not exceptional. The restaurant is very nice on the inside, lots of seating. Would I go again, yes. Is it at the top of my list for Asian cuisine? No. I've been blessed to have been to some amazing restaurants, this was clearly a good and solid restaurant.

    Strawberry tuna roll, hamachi crudo

The restaurant was pretty empty when my friends and I got there. I ordered a passionfruit prescription cocktail, which was tasty. For an appetizer I had the hamachi crudo. The fish was fresh. I had the strawberry and tuna roll for my entree. It wasn't very spicy but I enjoyed the spicy salmon and the strawberry with the wasabi aioli. It was my friend's birthday and the waitress offered her a free shot, which was nice. However, the waitress couldn't split our bill so we all had to write down different numbers next to what we ordered so she could separate the checks.

Went here for happy hour bites and also to try some of their main entree items. So on the day I was there, they had the whole main dinner booked out so everyone else had to be seated in the patio area. That was fine, however I wanted to order some dishes off the main menu and I was told that nothing was available. Wow! Not sure if that was because of the event going on in the restaurant. So we pretty much ordered everything off the happy hour menu. The items were decent for the prices, but they did take a while to come out. Also everyone in my party of 4 ordered a shrimp tempura roll but only 2 of them had that extra orange colored sauce as decor and for taste on the plate. Wish things could have been a little better.

    Tuna Crudo ($19)

It's more like a 2 star but the prices are not too bad and the vibes were on point. So 3 it is. We stopped by this place for drinks and an early dinner on a lovely Sunday afternoon of shopping. The place has a beautiful interior and a wonderful outdoor patio. The drinks are nice but the food was simply not good. I'm sad because the menu has so many delicious sounding items which makes me think this place has so much potential. The chicken truffle dumplings ($12) were probably the driest most bland dumplings I've ever had. They were slathered in a strange sticky sweet sauce. The calamari ($14) was fried nicely but also had no flavor. The Hiramo sushi roll ($21) was also slaughtered in sticky sweet sauces. You could tell that the fish was not very high-quality, the tuna crudo ($19) was chewy and stringy too. My friend also mentioned that the chicken ramen ($18) lacked flavor. The staff are very polite.

Sunny day, beautiful weather, and a great time for some Asian infusion and a cocktail. It all paired out perfectly for a small outing at the Domain. I got the Taiwanese popcorn chicken, which was all very flavourful and tasty. What a great location to have a joyful Sunday afternoon. Next time I'll come for lunch or dinner and try more things of the menu. So far, it got me curious enough to come back.

    Wagyu Sliders

JOI Asian Bistro was an absolute delight to dine at. At first glance it's a beautiful restaurant with many different seating options catered to how outdoors you would like to be. The checkin process with our reservation was smooth and so was the ordering process. The food was absolutely amazing. We ordered the wagyu beef sliders, braised short ribs, xiao long bao, and pork sabaro ramen. The sliders were great and so were the fries that came alongside it. They could've used less vegetables on it so help focus on the beef flavor but it was still good. The xiao long bao was pretty good as well, not as good as it would be at a dedicated dumpling spot but still above what we expected. The best part of the meal was the braised short rib. It was cooked to perfection and was extremely tender and juicy, just phenomenal. Unfortunately the biggest letdown was the ramen. The toppings were fine but the broth itself had zero flavor, almost like it was regular packaged ramen broth. Outside of the food the staff were great. They got us our orders quick and were incredibly receptive. We ordered a few drinks as well while we were there: the Japanese old fashioned, pineapple inferno, and lychee harmony. All of us liked the flavor of our drinks, although they were stronger than expected. Cumulatively, JOI is a fun and very good restaurant in The Domain. We were pleasantly surprised by the food although if you are searching for Asian food specifically then this would not be your best bet.

Came across this restaurant as I was looking for a spot for an afternoon cocktail and light bites. The place is elegant with a relaxing and chill atmosphere. The host and servers were welcoming and immediately accommodated me. They have a few interesting choices of drinks and cocktails and varieties of sushi, sashimi, bowls and just abt everything. I elected for my lychee martini and a couple of sushi rolls. I also didn't wait to be serve my drink and rolls. My drink was tasty and made right. The sushi rolls tasted fresh and delicious. I enjoyed my time alone and will definitely be returning to this spot again in the future.

    Vegetable tempura

Dining at Joi offers a mix experiences for a vegetarian! The restaurant's modern décor and lively atmosphere create a pleasant backdrop for a meal. However, while the ambiance is inviting, the overall dining experience can feel hit-or-miss, especially for those with specific vegetarian preferences. To start, we tried the vegetable tempura which was Ok. Tried 2 of their Vegan and Veggie Sushi which was kind of disappointing for me! For the main courses, I requested them make me a Veggie noodle and add some extra veggies ! I would say I loved the thin noodles ! Decided to skip the desserts ! Overall service was good ! Love the location as you can also opt to sit outside in the patio if the weather is good ! (Definitely not during Texas summers) Overall, this place offers a decent experience but with room for improvement. For vegetarians seeking a standout meal, it may be worth exploring other options in Domain !

The outdoor seating is under utilized. It's such a great vibe for getting work done or the perfect lunch meeting. We had bento boxes that have to be the best in town. Fresh chicken and salmon as the mains with all the fixings of the traditional bento. Make time and check them out.

The biggest issue was the lack of guidance and service. When we first arrived, no one explained the ordering process, so we spent several minutes trying to figure out what we were supposed to do. Eventually, we learned we could order at the bar, but later noticed there was also table service available. A simple welcome and explanation would have made a big difference for first-time guests. The drinks were good. I enjoyed the Spicy Watermelon Margarita, and the Dragonade was refreshing. The wings were probably the standout food item of the evening, with a delicious smoky flavor that really came through. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal was hit-or-miss. The smoked salmon dip was good, but the charred broccoli was beyond charred--it was burnt. The pictures don't lie. The smash burger was decent, but not nearly as memorable as I expected given all the hype. The atmosphere was nice, and I enjoyed spending time with friends, but between the confusing service model, lack of attentiveness, and food that ranged from good to disappointing, I left feeling underwhelmed. I'm honestly undecided on whether I'll return. There were a few bright spots, especially the cocktails and wings, but not enough to make this an easy recommendation.

That was really disappointing. When I went inside the store to buy some regular items instead, the interaction with the owner was also frustrating. He seemed to misunderstand what I was asking and kept directing me to stand in the pop-up line, even though I explained multiple times that I just wanted to purchase items from the store, which didn't require waiting in that line. In the end, I bought a few small items, but three small items came out to about $20, which felt overpriced for what I received. The overall service experience was not pleasant. The owner came across as rude and unwelcoming, and it didn't feel like customers who made the effort to come support the business were being valued. I understand this is a small, local mom-and-pop shop, and I usually love supporting small businesses. However, customer service still matters--especially when people travel a long distance to visit. Because of this experience, I probably won't be returning unless it's for a pop-up event.

Chef Ling is a brilliant and personable chef who treats her chefs and staff like family. Several different chefs prepared each course, and the presentation was well beyond what we expected, both visually stunning and thoughtfully composed. From the moment we walked into Ling Kitchen, the energy felt warm and intentional. The space is intimate without feeling cramped, and you immediately sense that you are about to be part of something special rather than just another dinner reservation. Chef Ling personally welcomed guests, shared the story behind the menu, and checked in throughout the evening in a way that felt genuine and never forced. Each course built on the last, with a clear progression of flavors and textures. The fish was impeccably fresh, the knife work precise, and the seasoning balanced to highlight the natural ingredients rather than overpower them. You could see the coordination among the team as different chefs stepped forward to prepare and present their dishes. It truly felt collaborative, like a small culinary orchestra. What stood out most was the creativity. Traditional techniques were honored, but there were subtle twists and unexpected combinations that kept us curious and engaged. Every plate was composed like art. The pacing was perfect, allowing time to savor each bite and appreciate the craftsmanship. Beyond the food, the hospitality elevated the entire experience. The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and clearly proud to be part of the team. That family atmosphere Chef Ling fosters is palpable and makes the evening feel personal. If you are in Austin and looking for a memorable omakase that rivals experiences in much larger food cities, Ling Kitchen is a must. This is not just dinner, it is a curated, immersive experience. What a pleasant place to dine at. My husband and I were looking for some Asian-fusion place and we…read moreare so glad we came across this place. More of a diner/casual place and I can see people coming here for social gatherings. Wouldn't recommend for very large parties though. There is parking behind the restaurant and since the restaurant isn't that big, I don't think it would take long to find a spot. You definitely get what you paid for. We got the hanger steak and chicken and it was more than enough. We got some appetizers because we thought the entrees wouldn't be filling enough but were so wrong. And surprisingly, the main entree entree chicken wasn't dry and pretty flavorful. The steak was also cooked well - wish there was more flavor but the condiments complimented it very well. I would also get the umami wings (well cooked and great flavor). Service is A plus - the workers were all very attentive, personable, answered any questions we had. We had a mishap with our bill and the (I think?) manager was so nice and accommodating. They also have different specials depending on the day/week! Will definitely come back anytime I come back to Austin.

Our server explained the owner's backstory, inspiration, the menu, HH, and the portion sizes. The charred Brussels sprouts were crispy and flavorful. The chicken wings were done in a spicy Szechuan Thai sauce. Very delicious. The Pork Buns were a home run. It was easily the biggest piece of Pork Belly I've ever seen on a bao bun. It was extremely tender and the sauce on the bun complimented it very well. It was my birthday and the wait staff gifted me an Ice Cream with Rice Paper Wafers. If I remember correctly, it was called a Thai Movie Theater (could be wrong). Ice cream was drizzled with chocolate, caramel, and fish sauce. Unique, unlike anything I've had before. The Rice Paper Wafers gave it a nice buttery crunch. Wonderful service. Wonderful food. Highly recommend and I will be back!

Blue Sushi: 10/10 Uber Eats: 0/10…read more Uber Eats canceled my order more than two hours after it was placed and over an hour after it was supposedly "picked up," yet it was never delivered. I also paid an additional fee for priority delivery, meaning it would arrive sooner. There was no explanation, and the delayed cancellation left me scrambling to reorder while wondering whether I could trust the replacement order to arrive. Thankfully, Blue Sushi was beyond accommodating. They immediately put my second order together, and when it arrived, it was absolutely delicious. Their customer service was exceptional, and as someone with celiac disease, I especially appreciate the care they take with dietary needs. While I'm incredibly disappointed with Uber Eats, I'm so grateful for the way Blue Sushi handled the situation. Great food, outstanding customer service, and genuine respect for their customers. You've earned a new loyal fan. Thank you!!

Wow what a change from my last time here AND how things are run and atmosphere…read more We did a girls night out for happy hour and were seated in the enclosed patio area, which from photos is very lovely. It was overly loud in there from the volume of the music it was very hard to carry on a conversation and meet new people. Everything felt so rushed. From being asked to order within 5 minutes of sitting. The food came out super fast as well even after being asked no need to rush it out because we wanted to be there bit and had ordered what we wanted. Well everything came all at once this meaning the temperature of the rolls that were to be warm ended up being cold by the time we got to them. The quality and size of the rolls have gone down as well. Very disappointing. The prices for happy hour are good but all of the drinks are very mixer heavy.
