I love that this place has gluten free ice cream cones and gluten free cookies. AND they're delicious. Every flavor is so good. The lavender honey is so different and interesting. The peanut butter cup is mouthwatering. The coconut mounds ice cream is perfection. The banana fosters is my favorite. I want to eat this flavor every time but I make myself try different flavors. Super sweet shop! I'm a fan. JoJo's is in the lumberyard, right behind St Tropez. It's where Bubby's Gelato used to be, for those who remember it. I'd been really looking forward to coming here since I heard about it opening because: 1) I love ice cream (duh), 2) ice cream comes with cookies (cookies are my weakness), and 2) they have gluten-free waffle cones and cookies (my husband is always sad about missing out on the cone). They have some great flavors of ice cream. I tried the peanut butter honeycomb and cayenne sea salt, and loved both. Their ice creams are organic, and they have some vegan and dairy free flavors as well, made from coconut and cashew milk. Super cool! I love that the ice cream comes with a mini cookie (regular or gluten-free). The regular cookie was soft and warm, and my husband enjoyed his gluten-free one. Both the regular and gluten-free waffle cones were good as well. We also saw that they sell ice cream pints to go and frozen chocolate chip cookie dough (regular and GF). I love baking, but I definitely want to try their dough at some point. So while everyone and their mom was lined up over at Handel's ice cream (wasn't impressed with them at all) We decided to skip the 50+ people line and make our way to he hidden gem Jojos down the street to try them out. We were immediately impressed by the scent of freshly made waffle cones being baked when we entered. (Only 2 people in line!) The ice cream selection was small, but the ice cream flavors we ultimately chose were SUPER packed with flavor, they seem to be more small batch and a lot of attention is focused on the flavors. We tried the peanut butter cup and the salted caramel with chipotle. The salted caramel had a kick at the end (maybe a bit too much kick, it was semi-irritating on the throat with a 2 scooper) So just keep that in mind. The peanut butter was fantastic. The ladies in the shop were very nice, and we even got 2 free warm chocolate chip cookies with our purchase. (You can get regular or gluten-free cookie) The waffle cone tastes SO fresh since it was literally just made. That being said, I truly adored JoJo's creamery! My friend and I were driving down to San Diego from LA, and we came across this small craft 'scream parlor in Encinitas. The music was fun and friendly, but not as friendly as the staff! It's a family -run business and all the staff seemed enthusiastic about working for the family and selling good, quality ice cream. Quite a few of the flavors were cleverly named, and the samples we tried tasted equally well-crafted. I settled on the nibby chocolate, which was not exceedingly sweet (which I loved) and really hit the spot with the abundant choco bits. My friend is vegan and she had two options, but she opted with the cookie monster. Hers and mine were creamy, yummy, and all around satisfying. The cones were freshly made in house (they also offered gluten free), and they also had interesting sauces (chocolate marshmallow sounded great, but I couldn't afford the calories). Tons of patio seating right outside makes it a good spot for an after dinner stroll or a treat after a hot beach day. Strongly recommend! read more

Only reason we came here was because Handel's ice cream down the street was closed by the time we got there. We decided to check out this place and it was not that great. Ordered one scoop of the peanut butter and one scoop of the banana ice cream in a waffle cone. My girlfriend got a single scoop of cookie dough ice cream, also in a waffle cone. The waffle cone was good, but the ice cream was salty and sub-par. Didn't expect the ice cream to be salty, especially if you ordered something that you thought wouldn't be salty. They also give you a tiny tiny cookie with your ice cream. However, the prices are outrageous! It came out to almost $11 for a tiny single scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone and a double scoop in a waffle cone (both the ice cream and waffle cone portions are very small). Not worth it at all!!! You can get more ice cream and better ice cream at Handel's for much cheaper! Overall, don't think we will come back here. Handel's is the best! Very delicious ice cream. With every ice cream purchase, they give you a free small cookie. Their flavor list is not too large, which I like because everything is fresh and there is a high turnover. Plus, it's hard to choose with too many flavors. We had the summer sorbet and Mudd mix. I loved the Mudd mix as it was not too sweet and hit the right notes on the palate. I liked the summer sorbet initially but it had a strange lingering after taste, which I am assuming is the ginger they added. Cookies were phenomenal. I just wanted more of those. They had various unique flavors to try out that peaked my interest. The shop was small but very friendly and intimate. The staff were very welcoming as we walked through the door and greeted us all. They were also very kind and offering suggestions on what would be good flavors to try out. It was also great that the staff was very patient with us as we tried multiple samples deciding on which one we liked best. The one I decided to go for was the Mint Oreo and it was delicious! However, employee "Jordan" (per name tag) sat outside in front of a line of customers, as well as a group of customers sitting, enjoying their ice cream, complaining about the job, how short her break was, and making jokes about how bad she felt for her coworkers inside as the line built.
