To start, the restaurant looks really nice and fresh. I was impressed as we walked in. After that it was down hill. I ordered a Cobb salad. When it arrived it did not even remotely resemble a Cobb salad. Some one had just thrown the ingredients into a bowl with out any thought. I was disappointed by it by itself and tack on the $13 price tag it was a complete bomb. My husband's signature burger was great, no issues there. We ordered two kids meals and all told they were $8 each. Drinks are not included. What a lovely spot. I have lived in Billerica almost all my life, I still refer to stores that no longer exist... "you mean where Stuarts was" or "where CWT was" and of course in Billerica we shop at Demoulas AND Market Basket. I have seen the Manning Manse go through all kinds of changes over the years. I was able to visit them for various incarnations of the historic tavern but this was one of the best. Calling this Jon Ryan's Pub will never happen for me. Even while on the phone (texting) from the bar I let friends know I was at The Manse. However, it doesn't look anything like it has in the past. It was a lovely, updated and very comfortable pub with lots of TVs to watch whatever sports are playing. The bartender that was there was very nice and quick with my wine. The menu is varied and I have to admit I was torn between quite a few good options. In the end I chose a pastrami sandwich that was done wonderfully. My daughter texted while I was there and asked for a few take out options, they couldn't have been happier to accommodate. I wouldn't go out of my way to order from here... I've tried this place 3 times (I try to try a place a few times before I make my mind up about a place or review it online...) Big problem with delivery orders is you don't much unless you ask for them (see below). I just ordered the Pilgrim Burger (Turkey burger with stuffing & cranberry mayo) & asked for extra cranberry mayo on the side.. & it's a good thing I did, because there was hardly ANY on the burger, it's almost as if the large bun soaked it all up. Even still with the extra mayo, it wasn't very tasty & it was extremely dry... they'd do better to serve a nice thick slice of cranberry jelly & lay that on the top...that would have given ANY cranberry flavor and made the burger a million times better. The burger was served with fries (but they didn't put any ketchup in the bag) I also got a side of Corn Bread (they didn't include any butter or a knife in the bag) which is what I meant by.. unless you ASK for it... it most likely won't be there. ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` On another occassion I ordered the Jumbo Soft Pretzel Sticks (which come with a white queso cheese sauce & whole grain mustard). . . I was very dissapointed, they were bland... the Pretzel Sticks they serve at Applebee's are a million times better & tastier than these... I also got the House Salad (which came with about a cup & a half of red onion) while eating, that was ALL I could taste. WAY too much onion! Also with the salad, I'm not a huge fan of the hard white vein that runs down the middle of romain lettuce (which is why I never order Ceasar Salad)... well there were huge pieces of that lettuce vein... I picked those out & put those off to the side... that accounted for almost 1/4 of the salad. Dissapointed. All in all.. meh.. dissapointing.. & in my opinion, not worth the price. read more

What was once my weekly staple now will be my once in blue moon restaurant. Jon Ryan decided to change his menu too drastically for the 2016 Fall season. The two best seafood meals, the Imperial and the Nantucket, were replaced with shrimp meals that I happen to be allergic to. I tried the Baked Haddock but it wasn't as moist as the delicious Nantucket. This leaves me with having either the Chicken Pot Pie or no other digestible choice. So when I see the Nantucket or the Imperial back on the menu, then I will give Jon Ryan another visit.... read more

My husband and I stopped in about lunchtime on a Saturday. We were greeted warmly at the door and offered our choice of the bar or a table. We sat in the spacious dining room - the many windows kept it light and airy. From the tables around us, it was clear that many of the customers were repeat customers. The menu IS extensive. Fish and chips, burgers,salads, sandwiches, three soups to choose from. My husband orders the Jon Ryon burger on the recommendation of our server. I got the buffalo chicken wrap with onion rings. We were hungry, so it seemed to be a longer wait than usual for our food, but when it arrived, it was clear that everything had been prepared hot and fresh. The burger required two hands and four napkins. My husband said it was amazing - as were the fries which were definitely NOT frozen. Skin on, crispy on the outside, hot and mealy on the inside. These fries did not need a fancy seasoning to make them good. Simpler, in this case, was definitely the better choice! My buffalo chicken wrap was hot and jammed full of chicken tenders. It was served with blue cheese dressing for dipping. The onion rings came with their own dipping sauce - a jacked up Russian dressing. Delicious! Equally good on the fries, as well. I am looking forward to trying more of their offerings! Definitely, this is a place worth trying! read more

Jon Ryan's Pub in Billerica, cancelled our Billerica Dog Park fundraiser within hours of the event and with no notice. The manager said they had no knowledge why the event was cancelled within the final hours, just that the owner had notified them that they were not going to support the Billerica Dog Park's fundraising efforts going forward. So why did they approve it in the first place then, only to cancel hours before? VERY unprofessional. At the last fundraiser that we held at Jon Ryan's, the bar & restaurant were packed. We made money and so did they. I don't know what is going on over there but I do know one thing - I, for one, will be boycotting Jon Ryans' Pub. The 99's on Lexington Rd along with Flatbreads in Bedford both support us and I will give my business to them instead. I hope all of you dog lovers join me in this boycott. read more

I really wanted to like this place. It is in the perfect location between work and home, and I gave them 7 or 8 tries. 3 out of those 7 or 8 times they failed to get my order right (we have always ordered the food as take-out, so it's really annoying to get home and not have everything we ordered at the price they charge for run of the mill pub food). The first two mishaps were when I ordered the "Jon Ryan's Western Burger". The first time I got home to find that they didn't put any BBQ sauce on the burger (which is one of the main ingredients). Instead of holding up my dinner, I just put some of my own BBQ sauce on it and moved on. Next time, I asked for jalapenos to be added. When I got home, no jalapenos to be found... not the end of the world. Went to the fridge and just used my own.... still annoying. Finally, got Jon Ryan's Pub last week and ordered the new "Rattlesnake Bite Cavatappi". The first words on the menu are: "chunks of roasted chicken tenderloin"... well, I get home to have dinner with my family only to find there isn't a single piece of chicken to be found! Just noodles and sauce. This time I obviously wasn't going to just let it slide, so I call them up immediately and speak to the manager. Instead of apologizing for the inconvenience, he simply says "thats weird, but what do you want me to do?" I say, "well obviously I want my meal replaced, and the whole point of getting this was to have dinner with my wife so I tell him I want both of our meals replaced because now I'm going to have to go all the way back there, and I'm not going to eat dinner separately from my wife since the point of getting food out that night was to eat together (we have a baby, so as nice as it would be to eat-in, we usually will bring it home after the little one is in bed), and by the time I get back her food will be cold". He says "oh well I'll just refund you for your meal then". I said, "you just asked me what I want, and since I would still like to eat dinner tonight, the way to make it right is to replace both of our meals so we can eat warm meals together, since that is what I just spent our money on". After putting me on hold, he comes back to say that he's just going to have to refund my portion of the bill. At this point I don't want to deal with this unprofessional person any longer, and I'm hungry, so I say fine and make him tell me how much my card will actually be charged. After putting me on hold again for about 5 minutes, he comes back and gives me the total. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable way to handle THEIR mistake. Like I said, we had gotten this place a few times, and I really wanted it to become one of our go-to places, but there is clearly a lack of attention to detail, and a lack of competent managers. Went here on Sunday afternoon with friends, there was 6 of us. The resturant was completely empty. We were sat promptly and the waitress came over and took our drink order. Almost 20 minutes later we all had our drinks... she told us other tables came in at the same time as us, so she was trying to "balance" us all out. She was the only server on. Why have only 1 server on if she can't handle when it gets busy? We finally ordered after almost 45 minutes of being there... we got salads and appetizers to start and entrees for after. No exaggeration, it took almost an hour from the time that we ordered for our entrees to be out. The server NEVER ONCE came over and apologized for the incredibly slow service. I work as a server, I know what it's like to be busy. All she had to do was come over and talk to us, and be honest about why our food was talking so long. She never once said anything and nor did the circulating manager that walked by our table 10 times. $170 later, I am highly disappointed with the service at Jon Ryan's. What a shame because the food was good and it's close to my house .... not sure if I'll ever be returning or recommending this place to anyone. read more

I really wanted to like this place because we are in desperate need of such in the area. Unfortunately even though it is new and shiny on the outside it is totally mismanaged. The food should be good, but it isn't. I ordered a chicken tender salad and it was as if they bought a package of salad and dumped in in. It wasn't fresh by any stretch of the imagination and the tenders where more like the size of clam strips. The bar are was filthy and not staffed appropriately. The bartender just piled up dirty plates on top of the beer coolers right where the Guinness glasses are. There was an empty dish bin on the floor but she just kept piling them up right in front of us. She was working the whole bar area alone and was doing her best I'm sure. The manager walked around but was oblivious to any of this. I would like to say it was the first time I had a bad experience there but I can't From the looks of the dwindling crowds this place will be closed by the end of the year. Really a shame read more

Jon Ryans did not fail to disappoint us, again. You can read my review of the Tewksbury location, food here in Billerica is the same. First of all, nice job on the makeover, the bar area especially looks nice. The dining room looks like the 99's. Everything from the color scheme, lighting and even the booths. Unfortunately our server was inexperienced, so that never helps. Yes, I do need silverware to eat. We got this new pretzel stick appetizer, $7.99 for 3 oversized, overcooked bread with salt on it. Really? If you charged $4.99 for it I might not have minded. By the way, I still hate that they do not offer bone in wings. It should be a standard item and not a Wed/Thurs special. Husband orders burger, med rare, comes a little overcooked, but it is obviously a pre made frozen patty type burger, not juicy, bland taste. Someone here mentioned a "ton of different beers" really? Same old standards and it would be nice to see a rotating craft tap. They claim to have it, but for the last 3 years, it has not changed. The dining room was dead, the bar area hopping, most likely with the same locals that hung at the bar when it was Villagio's! read more

Gross. Went to the Billerica location even though I was advised not to. The dining room smelled like a hamster cage. Service was slow. The food was sub-par and over priced. I got the nachos for $10, and they came nearly plain, very little toppings. Not recommended. I have also heard comments of rude/unfriendly staff. I've been to this place twice and both times and wasn't impressed either visit. The first time I went, I asked the server about the 'sangria of the day' which it clearly says on the cocktail menu, 'ask your server about the sangria of the day' (or week whatever it was), The first time there, the server told me they don't have sangria. So I ordered a different mixed drink which was pretty gross. The second time I asked the same question, and the server started explaining to me that a sangria is "a wine drink with fruit in it." So they don't actually have different flavors. Just a standard red wine sangria. I ordered it and like the last mixed drink it was barely drinkable. The food was meh...one step below what you'd expect at an UNO's. The first time I ordered a sandwich which wasn't that bad. The second time I ordered a salad and it came 'deconstructed' with tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. all in piles around the bowl of lettuce. A little odd since the bowl wasn't big enough to mix everything in it. Made it really difficult to essentially make my own salad. Both times after our meal it took about 20 minutes for the server to come back with the check, swipe the credit card, and give us the receipt. I don't know if the Tewksbury location is any better, but I would recommend avoiding the Billerica location. read more

Visited today on Father's Day. Parking lot was practically empty and inside was not crowded at all (4 pm). Two small groups of people were standing at the front waiting for a hostess to appear - so far they're waiting 10 minutes they said. I walked over to the bar to inquire and bartender Renee came out and seated all parties. She also handed us menus, took our drink orders and dinner orders. While having our drink server Brian came over and introduced himself. Things were going pretty well until we got our food and Brian said he would be over in a few minutes to check on us. Never happened. Drinks were empty and hubby needed a glass of water as he needs something while he eats. Still no Brian. I finally flagged another waiter that kept walking by and asked him to get Brian. We could hear him talking to Brian behind us telling him we needed him. Still no Brian. He kept walking around going up to other tables but not us. I asked another guy cleaning the table next to us for a glass of water. He happily and quickly obliged. Still no Brian. Brian finally came up to us when we were done eating and we asked for the check. Kudos to Renee and Joshua for being attentive when they weren't even our server. We normally tip 20 percent but sorry, you have to earn it. Ignoring us when asked for something is unacceptable. I can understand if the place was busy but he only had a couple of tables to serve since there were other servers working the room. And we never did see a hostess at the podium when we left. Their other location on Rte 110 was much better - too bad they closed. read more

So far so good. Gave it a try yesterday for the first time since it opened up. It was Sunday about 5:00. Sat at the bar which was not too busy but the dining room area was pretty busy so that's a good sign. For a Ruben sandwich with fries and a beer. The Ruben was very good and the fries were decent. Place is clean being newly remodeled so that's nice. You can tell thy cheaped out a bit in the remodel the bar is a cheap looking thing and not very well laid out. Service was good and the prices are reasonable. Will visit this place again for sure. Let's hope they remain consistent as time goes on. read more

We are traveling for a soccer tournament and looking for a taste of the area, an honestly- could not have been more disappointed. We called ahead to reserve room for 8, still had to wait once we got there. They have a ton of different beers on tap and the food is great. I always go to the Tewksbury location, but this is an easier drive for me. I would always recommend the fish and the turkey clubs. The last time I went in I had a turkey club and the shock top raspberry. Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere, great service.. What else do you need? I love this place! read more

Ordered take out and the food was really good and plentiful. We got a turkey burger (California style), southwestern burger and the fisherman's platter. We all liked our food a lot. My husband picked it up and said the bar area was really nice. We'll get over there one of these days soon and test it out and report back. I read some of the other reviews and am surprised by some of the negative comments but would like to give it a shot anyhow. Not many good restaurants in N Billerica so I can't cross them off my list without first trying it for myself. Also, at least this isn't a chain like outback or 99 where all the food comes prepackaged and frozen. The dining room is clean, well maintained and family friendly. Our waiter was friendly and patient, especially when interacting with my toddler as she kept handing him everything within reach on the table, while he was trying to take our orders. The food is above average pub food and priced reasonably at around $15 per plate. I would recommend the steak tips. read more

Last Friday (5/6) I took a very difficult, and at times abusive, business client to lunch at the Chelmsford location. We had a female waitress and she was excellent, every time my client tested her (and she did) the waitress came back with nothing but professionalism and courtesy. This client was incredibly rude to this waitress and I was mortified.. My gratitude showed in the tip, but I felt compelled to do more, so leaving this review. Please know that people see how hard you work, and insults you have to tolerate are inconceivable to me. I truly hope Jon Ryan's knows what an asset this amazing, hard working waitress is. Went for lunch. First of all, the greeter who was also our waitress was surly at first, but did warm up. Had chicken pot pie - there was a mild burnt taste in the crust although no sign of burning. The carrots in the pot pie were a mixed bag - some were cooked thoroughly and soft, others were only partially cooked and crunchy. 3.5 stars. Stopped here for a business lunch and we decided to eat at the bar. Our bartender was very prompt and polite. We were served quickly and the teas were brought right away. We waited a little while for our sandwiches, but they were both hot and fresh and tasty. I had the pulled pork with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was good (the roll was great). Her burger was the thinnest burger I have ever gotten at a restaurant and my chicken finger sub had no taste at all. To pay $25 and get a meal like this I will not go back. I've been to the Billerica location a few times for lunch. Food is good, but service is really slow. It seems like they never have enough people working and we always have to wait for our server. Usually when we come in, we till the waiter that we're on lunch so we have to be in and out fast. Solid all around pub. They had an acceptably good beer list (Finally not just bud and sam, although they have those as well if that is your thing). The food was again solid upscale pub food. Our service was excellent, very friendly and attentive. People in the reviews complain about the price, I guess coming from Boston this seemed normal-to-cheap. Unless you want fast food which still costs you $8, this was in the $15 range and was really pretty good. All around a solid effort on food/service/drinks in a nice clean well kept building.
