Function room upstairs, currently set up for a comedy show.
    Janet M.

I don't know how Jonathan's has escaped my reviews for such a long time. I try to get to Ogunquit at least once/year and we only skipped dinner there once, and then only because we stayed the next town up. Jonathan's is elegant and subdued from the outside, but inside it's eclectic with lots of unusual artwork as well as beautiful gardens you can glimpse from the windows. There are at least three very comfortable dining rooms, a bar, and a function room upstairs where they host shows and entertainment. The service is always top notch, I have never had a cocktail or glass of wine that disappointed me, and I can always find a vegan or vegetarian option. My longstanding favorite is the eggplant napoleon, a MUST-TRY. This was the first time we stayed for a show at Jonathan's - the FABULOUS Paula Poundstone - and the function room was set up with long, narrow tables and dining chairs. There is an elevator to get upstairs if it's needed, but the staircase from the lobby is lovely and well-constructed. The room is cooled by very efficient ductless AC units, so it was comfortable there in mid-July. Everything is in top condition, looks brand new and is well maintained. Lots of love to Jonathan and his amazing team for so many memorable experiences!

I have been to Jonathan's a few times to dine in the lounge for $1 oysters. They are offered from 4-6pm every day, even on weekends in the bar/lounge area. The staff is very nice and the restaurant will often have live performances. The $1 oysters are only able to be ordered by the dozen- but they are $20 cheaper from 4-6pm than during the rest of the day! I have tried other seafood appetizers and menu items and found them very good as well. The main menu items and drinks are on the pricier side, but it may be what is typical in the area.

Great venue! Went to see the Sophie B Hawkins show here on 6/1/25. I got amazing seats at a very good price which included a $25 voucher towards dinner. The staff is very friendly and the food was delicious! I can't wait to come back!

If it were based just on the food, this review would probably be a 2/5. The food was pretty subpar, especially for the price. I got the Chicken Masala and it didn't have much flavor, the chicken was meh, and the noodles were overcooked. My mom got the scallops and she said they also didn't have much flavor. My dad liked the fish he got, so maybe we just picked the wrong menu items. I think they'd do better if they paired their menu down. The only reason this place is bumped up from a 2 to a 3 star review is because of the great service. Our server was friendly, funny and efficient, and our drinks and food came out in a timely manner. It seemed pretty empty inside for a summer evening, too.

New Englandy type restaurant. White tablecloths, sculpture and flower gardens adorn the outdoors -- all visible from the windows of the DR and provide a magnificent backdrop to your meal. They have handy stands for your purse at every table; a nice touch. Excellent haddock chowder! Another plus is that it is stone's throw away from the Ogunquit Theatre. We were one of the first cars in the parking lot at 6:25 PM and walked to the restaurant, avoiding the traffic in and out of the parking lot. We were amongst the first cars to leave when the show was over!

No big deal, I was a party of one, and they were quite busy on the Saturday night that I went. Service is impeccable, really no complaints there. The food came out fast, even though they were quite busy. The food was great as well, though I wasn't a particularly big fan of the wood-fired beets (if you like horseradish on beet, you would like them). Fried oysters were great, I mean really good. Spaghetti with guanciale is absolutely incredible; key lime pie similarly amazing. Overall, I'll be back here. Plan to spend at least $50 per person. What a great location.

We understood it would be a limited holiday brunch menu instead of the regular dinner menu, which was fine. However, by the time we sat down to order, almost all of the options were already sold out. Our entire table basically had to order the exact same thing because there was nothing else left. The space is lovely and it's a nice spot for a regular dinner, but they were definitely not equipped for the holiday rush. Don't go for Mother's Day.

What we ordered: -Cornbread: 3/5, great portion to share with the table and piping hot which I loved but wish it was moister and had more honey on top. -Caesar salad: 5/5, incredibly fresh, dressing was delicious and evenly spread among the whole salad, fresh anchovies on top were a nice touch -Crabcakes: 4.8/5, only comes with 2 but the cakes were very fresh and flavorful. The corn on top was very boring I wish they spiced it up a bit but it did not take away from the flavor of the cakes so I kept the score high. -Lobster Pappardelle: 5/5, one of my favorite meals we ate on vacation!! Generous lobster portion with perfectly cooked pappardelle in a very tasty sauce. I already miss it and wish I could eat it again. -Braised Short Rib: 3.8/5, beautiful presentation and everything tasted great but very small polenta/carrot portions and I wish the meat was more tender. It wasn't bad, it just didn't blow my socks off. -Espresso crème brûlée: 4.5/5, was the perfect birthday dessert for my boyfriend and he absolutely loved it. Quality espresso flavor, wish it was a little crispier on top. Food was ~4/5 but our overall experience was 5/5. Our server, Pedro, was so friendly and helped us with dish recommendations. When I told him we were celebrating a birthday, he brought the crème brûlée out with a candle and two other staff members to sing to him which was so sweet. We will definitely come back here next time we're in town!

We sat at a table by the window on the first floor. We overheard that there is an upstairs bar, not sure if they also seat folks for dinner there. We were able to place an order right after getting settled. We enjoyed the Sun mocktail, charred beet salad, mac and cheese, fried codd sandwich, steak frites, and corn ravioli (without the pancetta). My spouse is gluten free and I am vegetarian so we are always looking for restaurants that can accommodate both. The charred beet salad was good but I think dressed a bit too heavily. I thought the corn ravioli and sun mocktail were both great. The kids (ages 1.5 and 5) liked the Mac and cheese and fried cod sandwich. They did not have any appropriate booster seats for the 1.5 year old so my spouse held him. My spouse loved the steak frites but I think wished had a few more "frites" given the amount of interest from the younger crowd. Our waiter was wonderful and also brought some orange slices from the bar for the kids. We were very grateful. We decided to go nearby for ice cream after dinner, but I heard there is a dessert menu.

Just sit and enjoy the view. Yes you are in the street to occasionally a big truck goes by but with the right company who cares. You see the ocean and smell the salt air. Menu is good. Vegan options and of course seafood. It's up there on price both worth it. Indoor and outdoor seating and I believe they bought the building next door with a balcony area but not 100% sure. The food was great and a lot on the plate. The tacos only come with tacos. No fries or rice or side something. Was a bit disappointed but in the end it was ok. Large portions of fish and chips. And did I mention the view. Street parking is available but can be a challenge. Do you know how to parallel park? You might need to park down the road a bit and walk but you can't go wrong with a walk on the beach before or after your meal.

The same food and drink is served there, but you'll need to communicate that with the host at the restaurant (there was some pushback from the rooftop bar staff when we came about them not being able to seat us because the host needed to make that decision and then tell them; whereas the host at the restaurant told us to just go on over). + The drink I had was good: I got a blackberry sour that was refreshing. If we had had more time, I would have also tried the painkillah' with a rum floater. And, honestly, the mocktails sounded great too! Also, their glassware is lovvvveeellly, make sure you pay attention to that! + They've got vegan options: While we didn't order food, I would have loved to have tried the vegan "crabby" cakes with cilantro aioli! -/+ The views are not unbroken: while you'll be able to take in panoramic views of the ocean, they're disrupted by an abundance of black power lines (this is not true if you're sitting in the restaurant, but you will have loads of people lingering on the sidewalk next to you waiting to be seated). Expect it to be VERY busy in the summer! I see myself returning here when it's a wee bit quieter.

We requested a table with a view and were allowed to hang around the bar area while we waited. The wait was only about 10 minutes and the table we were given had a wonderful view of the harbor. Our waiter was at our table to take our drink order almost immediately and promptly took our food order when he arrived with our drinks. Our food came out fast and was all hot, clearly nothing had been sitting under a heat lamp at window and was brought right to our table as soon as it was ready. Pickle chips - first it's worth noting that these are not made with dill pickles, they're the sweet "bread and butter" pickles. It's not my personal preference, but some may prefer that. Either way, it probably should be mentioned on the menu. The fried pickles themselves have a perfect thickness of breading on them, which does seem to have some seasoning in it. Every one of them was crispy and the breading wasn't peeling off like it does at many other places. The dip they came with tasted like it might have been a blend of thousand island and horseradish. Fish and chips - both the fish and the fries were very fresh. The fries were definitely freshly cut and not frozen. The fish had just the right amount of perfectly crispy breading on it. Neither the fries nor the fish were soggy. The only feedback I'd have here for improvement is for the sauces. If you're going to go through the effort to use fresh fries and fish, then why use store-bought tartar sauce? I'd love to see them start making some fresh tartar and maybe even some homemade ketchup! Fried clams - My wife had the fried clams and one of her favorite reasons for coming to this restaurant is that the menu states that they don't use any hydrogenated oils in their food. She also really enjoyed her clams and found them to be crispy and flavorful.

The only reason I am giving this three stars is because the food was just average. We ordered a chowder, a lobster roll, grilled cheese, and a hot dog. The grilled cheese and hotdog were good, but the lobster roll and chowder were just okay for the price. The chowder was a bit watery and not as rich as some of the others that I have had. The lobster roll was a little small and needed to be jazzed up with some more mayo or lettuce. Overall I had a really nice lunch here and would definitely return just for the location and service.
