I opted for the simple sausage and eggs with a cream cheese muffin, and a side each of the seasonal pumpkin pancake, and a lemon-blueberry pancake with raspberry sauce, and my friend got the chicken-fried chicken & eggs. The cream cheese muffin was literally the best muffin I've ever had! Ilana, our waitress, was very helpful in picking out our order and explaining the menu. Everything here was delicious and filling. Forgot to post my review so here it is... So there was an online craze in June about this Olallieberry Lush pie so of course I had to try it. It was very good however, I have to say the amount of whipped cream took a 5 star pie down to a 3 star pie. Maybe just mine was like that but it was unusually over whipped where it overpowered the berries and flavor of the crust. It was more of a whipped cream pie with Olallieberry. And I LOVE anything with whipped cream. The berries were only right there in the middle and that's it...underneath had a cream cheese filling so not much berries on mine..looking at others photos on FB, theirs seemed to have more berries and not as much whip...maybe I just got the shorter end of the stick here..Just some constructive criticism in hopes they ease up on the whip. Preordered a chocolate cake with no walnuts for pick up at noon. I showed up about 20minutes past noon to pick up the order and was told I needed to wait 5-10 minutes, so I did and we got our cake after about 10 minutes. Upon opening the cake I see how lopsided it is, this did not happen during transport, we were very careful to keep it upright and in AC. Been eyeing Jongewaard's for a while now, but finally got to try it this past weekend. I must admit we almost gave up waiting because there were about 10 teams in front of us and the wait was over an hour, but we persevered, and it was worth it. I do think the wait was longer because they weren't seating people outside because of the LA fires and air quality. It had a vintage diner vibe with cozy booth seats and an amazing collection of pies in their bakery area. Usually at older diners, the seats and interiors are worn out, but not here. It was super clean and looked almost brand new (not sure if they renovated). They share a parking lot with the church across the street which is super convenient. My family and I were so hungry by the time we got seated so we got to excited and ordered a bunch of things - which ended up being way too much because the portions were HUGE. Lemon Blueberry Pancakes - 10/10 One of the best pancakes I have had in a while. I loved that it was served with Raspberry sauce and butter. The pancakes were the perfect softness and had a bit of a crispy edge which was chef's kiss. Cheese Pocket French Toast - 7/10 Honestly it was delicious but I think because we already had the pancakes, we weren't really drawn to the French Toast as much. It was also a bit too sweet for me. Tomato, Basil, Onion & Jack Omelette - 10/10 Comes with soup or salad of your choice and they really perfected the seasoning. Super flavorful and no dry eggs. Last Wednesday, I called to order a fresh peach pie and was so pleased when they made it for me to pick up within 30 minutes. I appreciated the service and was excited to surprise my husband with his favorite treat. Today, I called again hoping to place the same order, but was told they no longer take orders for that pie and that it's now "first come, first served." I was genuinely disappointed. I understand that businesses can adjust their policies, but it's a letdown when a convenient and thoughtful gesture suddenly becomes difficult to fulfill. Of course, they're free to manage their products however they choose just as I'm free to take my business elsewhere or even try making the pie myself. I'll miss the convenience, but I'll find another way to bless my husband this season. read more

Bake & Broil is a very popular spot. We were there on a Friday, arrived at 11:30 and put in our name. We were seated at 12:45. In their defense, due to Christmas being days away, the restaurant was crazy busy with tons of people picking up orders for pies and food. Be aware the seating is on the cramped side (were people smaller in the 1960's?). Every employee that I saw was working hard and constantly helping customers. My favorite breakfast place. Cool vibe, they have the best red velvet and carrot cake. I always get the chicken fried steak and eggs. Seasoned hashbrowns with squaw bread (like a sweet rye bread) their fresh salsa on the eggs are good too. They get pretty packed on weekends so there is often a wait. Certain days you can park across the street in the church parking lot (check signage) otherwise you park on the street. Great local staple. Went there with my mother for midday rations. Had to wait for an inside table. Washrooms and "all gender" and were clean and had paper towels available... good. I ordered the burger combo. That came with French Fries and a Salad. Salad was quite good. French Fries were satisfactory. Burger was fine but I think that Red Robin does a better burger. I just had "Wooder" to drink. I do have a general complaint about the personal appearance of most but not all of the guys who work at this establishment. Many of the guys failed to tuck their shirts in. I consider untucked shirts to be very unprofessional. I did see a couple of guys wear their shirts tucked in... good on them. Since it is apparent that this establishment does not require their guys to tuck their shirts in I am dinging this establishment one point as this is something I am OCD about, I am dinging this establishment one point. My co-worker and I wanted to have breakfast in the LBC so we decided to try this place. We came on a Saturday and I found a parking spot (lucky me); the place was pretty busy and parking was scarce. Waited maybe 25 minutes to be seated which wasn't too bad since we had a nice seat in the outdoor patio. The ambiance: We were seated near the kitchen where it was very busy but with good company and great convo, you hardly notice how hectic it is. I was torn between the quiche w/muffin on the side & the country fried steak w/eggs. I asked the waiter what he preferred and so I went with the latter. The food came out fairly quickly, maybe 10 mins. The steak and country gravy was good and the puff pastry I ordered on the side was delish. Service was great, everyone was friendly. Love this place. I come here whenever I'm in the area and sometimes drive outta my way to eat here. The quiche was tasty with just a mild spicyness so it was perfect for this gringo. The cinnamon muffin flavorful but needed the butter but it was a little too hot as I think they microed it before serving. The apple sauce was a new thing I'd never tried and was very surprised when I ate the entire bowl. 40 years later and happy this place is still here. The pie display with the fun plastic pie divider and cutter were cool to look at and very appetizing. They had crayons and a coloring page for my toddler. Our waitress was super nice and helpful. I like how the booths were adjacent to the middle pie bar area from which servers took and made my drink orders. My husband liked the pancakes more than I did. The chicken pot pie had a great salty crust and a nice texture with balanced flavors. The prices were fair. The bad: There's a long wait and they don't call you by phone or text when your table is ready so you must be present with your entire party. There was a long wait when I came at 1PM on a Thursday. The chocolate cake tasted like the oil used in it. The lemon pie didn't have the classic torched meringue (it had meringue but it wasn't baked). They ran out of cheese pockets when I came. Two women before me were very upset at the female cashier. One said she felt disrespected and the other complained of the long wait. The breakfast was nice but wasn't worth the wait. I think there's only street parking. The raspberry sauce was sweet but wouldn't been nice if it had more tartness. The interior is cramped. Came in today for our annual management holiday lunch. Ordered the chicken pot pie, which is only served until there are no more available for the day. The crust is just baked to perfection with big chunks of chicken and veggies. And the portion is just right. It comes with a small side garden salad. Both were delicious. Finished the meal with a slice of rhubarb pie. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it. It was just too tart for me at the time. I like tart but I wasn't feeling it today. When there several weeks ago at about 11:30am. There was a line, we were #6 on the sign in sheet. Apparently, the person who called out for me felt that my penmanship was really bad since he had to let everyone know that he couldn't read it. When he called out, it was said, "Someone whose name begins with a G", at that point I felt a bit awkward. We were told where to sit, in the back past the kitchen, no one seated us. Our waiter was nice but he didn't check on us if we were okay or if we needed anything else. My friend hardly touched her food because it had a funny taste, the waiter didn't ask her if anything was wrong with her food, he saw it. I told my friend to ask for a new plate and/or tell them the situation and order another item. She didn't want to start trouble. My sandwich was okay nothing over the top. Because of the previews I expected more out of this restaurant. Maybe next time, I need to try something else since I only had a BLT sandwich during this visit. She had no made me feel like she did not care....Instead of her taking my order she answered an incoming call and took there order? Stilll not caring about my time or experience. After this long wait the tall gentleman man came back and he took the the two people that came after me order FIRST???? When he finally came to me he said how you doing? Bake n Broil, Bake n Broil, where do I begin? I've been coming here for years now since my aunt introduced me to this local hotspot back in 2017. They're known for the breakfast as they open early and close the dining room early as well, however they started doing takeout orders from a little window which ends at around 7pm if i'm correct. I used to usually opt for the bacon cheeseburger whenever I used to drop by for lunch but on my recent visit I tried their cheese omelette with hash browns which were great! Besides their food they're also known for their in-house desserts which are pies, cupcakes and other sweets! My go to is their chocolate cream pie which always hits the spot. I'd recommend to anyone their red velvet cupcakes as well! One thing to consider is as this is a popular spot among locals be prepared for short wait times as you will need to put your name on they're list upon arrival. All in all, I'll definitely continue supporting this local business as long as i'm around and I encourage you to give them a visit for some good food and desserts. read more

Yesterday at 4:30 I stopped in this place and they were telling me it was closed. I asked if I could take something to go and they said yes to go is open and I ordered a chicken pot pie and a side salad which is their special. It was awful. It was cold and it was nothing but crumpled dough with three little pieces of chicken and dried out. The manager was sitting at the bar and there were 45 people running around back-and-forth restocking, sugars and creamers, and when I walked in the door, they're like we're closed I've been going to this place for 20 years. I used to belong to their rewards program and I ate there every other day when I was off work in between time for marketing and this was so disappointed and I was starving for the day I had just gotten in my car service in the morning. I've been running around south Orange County and literally was back before I went to work. Wanted to get a little something hot and comfort food and boy was I wrong I tried calling. No one answered to complain because I wanted to trade it out for something better. I guess they close on Monday evenings. Ambiance is cute, an intimate bustling cafe with people in and out, servers running around with cakes and pastries. Our server Jimmy was friendly and quick. The food was average. Burrito was good just missing flavor. The omelette was good too. Pancakes were yummy! And best of all was the biscuit with gravy! The gravy was absolutely delicious, I was worried it'd make my biscuit soggy but it held up nice and was the only thing i entirely finished. This is one of our fave breakfast spots! A Long Beach gem. It's no surprise you'll always encounter a wait even at different days of the week, different times of the day, 30+min, can be longer on weekends. There is street parking or park across the street at the church parking lot when there isn't mass. Cozy ambiance, seats in the back corner of restaurant can be a little loud (possible sounds/voices bounce from walls) Everything is good here. Our faves: chicken fried steak w gravy, the pancakes are delicious(all flavors), muffins(all flavors) served warm, pies, and if you have room, the cheese pocket or cinnamon roll .. yum yum yum. I absolutely love their quiche. They're so silky smooth and flavorful. I picked green chile-cheese and a spinach mushroom for the party. We had Brinner (breakfast for dinner) theme. My peeps killed the green chile, which is also my fave. There were only a couple slices of the spinach mushroom. Jongwaard's is always the best option although one of the most expensive. Trash all around, the floor looks like an alley. I am kind of shocked by its lack of cleanliness, especially in a Bixby Knolls neighborhoods. This is the second one in this area with similar conditions. Management really needs to step up n Fix this issue. There is a nice tile store right next door!
