Wow. Just, Wow. Myself and a few work friends accidently ended up here when we were looking for some lunch. When you walk in, it's setup like a typical deli. When you look up above the counter and see the sign of over 100 different meal options, that's when you really begin to be amazed. There is everything from a standard Turkey Club, Fried Bologna, to Ruebens, chicken finger subs, steak subs, French dips, salads, soups, side dishes, desserts and a couple really awesome "never would I have thought to order that" selections. Their menu is amazing. I ordered "The American" which had Ham, Turkey, Roast beef and all the fixings. It was HUGE and so very delicious! Next time I go, I want to try the Eggplant Parmesan Sub - I've never seen that offered before! When we got back to the office, we started telling everyone about this place. We are so lucky to have NY style deli like this in WNY. I first stumbled on it back in like 2012 when it was a tiny place in the UB commons. A lot of the NYC kids at ub raved about it, and ignorant me was like aren't all delis the same? I was very wrong. It was love at first bite with their Pittsburgh sandwich. It was on a different bread back then, I like the bread they use for it now but also am nostalgic and miss the original, still no matter what this is hands down one of the best sandwiches in buffalo. It puts primanti Bros to shame. Everything about it just sings. I've had a bunch of their other sandwiches and every single one has been great, you can't go wrong when they are using boars head and other top quality ingredients. I will say though last time I got the California dreaming I think it was called with turkey, bacon, and guac and flavored mayo, I kind of assumed it would be a cold sandwich because of the guac but it was served warm, I think this sandwich would be better cold but maybe that's a personal thing. Jonny C's provided the first meal I ate when I first moved to East Amherst. I used to eat there a lot, but then somehow I stopped eating there. I guess my desire to try new things made me forget about the great close-to-home places that are always there. My personal trainer was telling me one day how much he loves to go to Jonny C's for his cheat meal. The hamburgers, he says, are amazing. As many times as I've eaten here, I've never had the burger myself. On my way home from the gym one day -- after hearing about Jonny C's again from my trainer -- I decided to stop for my lunch. I had a turkey sub (one of my favorite go-to subs) and couldn't believe I had forgotten how fresh and tasty the subs here are! The choices on the menu are vast (they even serve breakfast!), but I often go for the simplest pleasures. The place doesn't look like much on the outside, but they really do offer everything you could possibly need. There is always enough seating because most people tend to get their food to go. Lots of cheese and a good amount of sauce, but not so much that you can't pick up the sandwich. I've also had the seafood bisque. It has good flavor, but is a little salty. Our go to Deli restaurant for veggie burgers and our favorite ... the portobello burger with roasted red peppers, pesto Mayo, blue cheese crumbles, onion, tomato and lettuce! Their fries are crispy, thick and yummy. They do need to upgrade their veggie burgers to the impossible burger! If you are looking for a wide variety of choices this is your place. Order at the counter and wait patiently for the goodness to arrive. For a Saturday night they were pretty fast. We had the Reuben which was grilled perfect. Meat was plentiful and was well portioned to the kraut, cheese and sauce I much preferred the sub whose name escapes me but it had all kinds of meat, cheese, pizza sauce, banana peppers and best of all mozzarella sticks. I was introduced to this wonderful "lunch spot" when I did radio sales and marketing, my clients from 123 Delivery and myself would meet here occasionally for lunch meetings! Jonny C's NY Deli uses the best rolls (Costanzo Sub Rolls) and high quality deli meat. You can order a half or full sub. they also offer breakfast sandwiches and sandwiches on rye bread too! The subs that I enjoy are the: chicken club with bacon and the "turkey natural" with turkey, sliced cucumber, munster cheese, and herb mayo They also have combos with soup or salad or chips with a drink. With an extensive and creative sub/sandwich menu, it's one of the best NY style delis in the area. If you want to make your own sandwiches at home they have Boar's Head meats and cheeses sliced fresh on the spot, and costanzo's rolls or NY rye bread. Soups, salads, pasta salads, burgers, wings, wraps, fries (buffalo fries too), cookies, and cannoli are also pretty good. And the kosher dill pickles that come with the sandwiches are phenomenal! It doesn't take much to start drooling after looking over the sub and sandwich ingredients on the Jonny C's favorite sandwiches menu. I usually go for the 90, the Scajaquada, the 495, the Rachael, or the Chicken Cordon Bleu sub. When you're super hungry go for the Glutton; think a cheese steak that hooked up with a chicken finger sub and then had a baby. And if you're really starving you can take on the Big Mouth! We used to order lunch from this place frequently when I worked out in East Amherst. Their subs are HUGE and very reasonably priced for the portion. If you get the lunch special (sub, soup & soda), order a half sub. My favorites were the #1-Manhattan Chicken Salad and #10-The 495, which is a breaded chicken cutlet sub that was so good it reminded me of my grandmother's homemade chicken cutlets. My co-worker was a big fan of their chicken noodle soup. One caution however with pick-up. Several times we got the food back to the office only to discover that something was missing. One time we got an extra soup. So I'd just suggest checking your to-go order before you drive away. read more

Ok it may look like I only give good reviews. In reality, great experiences motivate me to write reviews! Bad experiences do too and eehh experiences, not so much. Jonny C's is about my favorite sub joint. It's not at all close to my house, but we have bi-weekly work meetings there so I get to enjoy pretty regularly. When you walk in, you'll see a HUGE menu above the counter. There must be 75 choices of interesting/gourmet subs and sandwiches. You'll end up standing there for 5 minutes looking and then just order something before you got all the way through the menu. They use all fresh ingredients and cook everything to order. You can tell when you bite into your meal that it was prepared with care. The staff are friendly and take great care of the customers. I often get The Pittsburgh sub which is a steak sub with home made cole slaw and french fries on top. MMmmmmm this is one of their best! If you want a break from the regular generic sub routine, I highly suggest Jonny C's. If you can't find something you love, you can't be pleased. I wish they'd open a location near my house, I'd go there a few times a week! read more

My husband and I stopped by today for lunch as we are considering their catering services for October. We were immediately greeted upon entering (which admittedly goes a long way with me!) and I was promptly introduced to Darcy, the catering manager. He was warm, friendly, and made us feel at ease with not only trying to decide what we wanted to eat but also our upcoming event. My husband ended up getting a turkey wrap and I ordered the chicken caesar salad. The portions were decent and delicious and the staff was friendly and pleasant. Patio seating was great and the tables were very clean. All in all, a pleasant outdoor lunch. We will definitely be back! read more

I have literally been trying to try Jonny C's for the last 8-10 years and I've finally made it.. lol.. This was a planned lunch date so nothing could interfere with this lol.. Soon as I walked in I was greeted by 2 different workers and my order was taken.. I looked at the menu online and man I was overloaded with choices.. I'm normally a turkey sub kind of girl but today I wanted to step outside of my norm and try something different.. BE WILD!! So I went with a half of Italian Sandwich with chips and a Snapple. The meat and veggies were all so fresh and believe it or not the roll was nice and hot!! I sure did make an excellent choice because my sandwich was GREAT!! My friend ordered a Portobello Burger with fries, I didn't try the burger but I did try the fries and they were cooked perfectly and hot!!The place was nice and clean and I was so happy to see that they have all the condiments and to go boxes set up for the customers to just take as needed. I feel bad complaining. However I ordered a Eggplant Parm Sandwich it was hands down the worst Eggplant I have ever had...although I think I just made a bad choice? My go to place for a delicious sub! They have so many different choices on sandwiches that you can try a new one every time and it would take you years to get through them.. Unless you go once a week then ok maybe just 1 year! The staff is always very friendly and the food comes out very quickly. Heres why I love Jonny C's: First and foremost the subs are awesome. So good that you'll be reluctant to try one of the other menu items (they have a lot to choose from, menu is massive). I'm a big fan of the "American," the chicken salad, and the soups. Portion sizes are large so a half sub is normal enough unless you're hungry then go big with the 12". The service is incredible and here's why. I ordered 2 subs from there, paid for them and drove home (about 15 minute drive). Opened the subs and found one of the main ingredients missing from one of the subs. Kinda miffed, I called them back just to let them know......without me asking, they asked for my address and drove not only 2 perfectly made subs to my house, but also include 2 coupons for a free sub. Way above my expectation to "make it right." I go here at least once a week and IT IS one of the best places to get a sandwich/sub in Buffalo or it's suburbs. read more

I love a good sandwich, but sometimes having to decide what the perfect combination of meat, veggies, grilling and dressings is just too much.... That's where Jonny C's excels. If you can't find something you think you'll like in the 45 different sandwich options they have, just go home and make a PB &J. I always seem to find myself here when I'm in the mood for a Reuben, but am not sure I want to handle the mess of sauerkraut and all the salt...so - I get a #9 "The Kosher Style" toasted on whole wheat. Trust me... It's fabulous. Other notes... I've only had toasted sandwiches (no burgers, salads etc). Once I had sweet potato fries, they were pretty spectacular and the maple butter heaven I dunked them was awesome, but I didn't think they needed it. They were sweet enough on their own. (The maple butter was really good though - just too much indulgence) Some pointers... What do you get when you mix a Jewish Deli with an Italian Sangwich Shop...no its not a bad joke...its Jonny C's. With the death and demise of most other Delis/Sangwich Shops in town (Mastmans*: Closed; Vito's and Marco's: Not a quarter as good as they used to be in their Halcyon Days)...Jonny C's is the last great bastion of the same. This is definitely the place to go if you are hungry.** The sandwiches are HUGE and loaded with meat (almost too much). Their menu consists of tons of specialty sandwiches almost made exclusively of Boar's Head cold cuts. Be prepared to read for a bit to go through the myriad of sandwich options. I love their Cubana, the Turkey Natural, the Casey...they are all good. When I go though I like to order my own special sandwich that I have aptly dubbed (with a nod to the Cosby Show) "the Big Stinky." This consists of corned beef on toasted rye, with whole grain mustard, sauerkraut, chopped liver and a big stinky raw onion slice. This little beauty is pure heaven for me and a torture for anyone around me for the rest of the day. When you are there try the Matzo Ball Soup (Wegman's actually makes a better one though) and the Square (not round...big difference) Knish. They also have a nice assortment of Italian Cookies, but for dessert I love their Black and White Cookie which I believe is imported weekly from New Jersey (yes I meant to use imported not shipped this is Jersey we are talking about). Its cake-like (not cookie-like) texture is really amazing and Snookie endorses the cookie as New Jersey's finest. While I used to go more often when they were located in the Statler Towers, their move to Amherst did not hurt the quality of their food. If your super hungry stop by and enjoy. Ask for the Big Stinky...they won't know what your talking about...but if it gets enough hype it may actually make it on the menu. *Though it should be noted that Jack from Mastmans still makes his Pastrami and Corned Beef Sandwiches in the Jewish Section of Wegmans located on Sheridan in Amherst. They are still ridiculously good. **Jonny C's also features two "man vs food"-like contests. One is to eat/finish a $40 sandwich loaded with POUNDS of meat, and the other is to make it through all of the 45 named sandwiches on the menu. I have been a customer of Jonny C's for YEARS!!! I have eaten in, taken out and had a variety of events catered by Darcy and his Crew. There aren't enough stars to give them. Their food is fresh, creative, and delicious. ONLY to be outdone by their service and friendly demeanor. Last night, I picked up a pretty large order for my family (we are a family of six). One has a dairy issue, another wants sauces on the side, another wants the bread toasted a certain way..... I ordered online which can sometimes be questionable at other restaurants. Not only was my order ready on time, but the young man behind the counter took painstaking efforts to double and triple check that everything was there and that everything was done to my specifications. Being another sub joint in the Buffalo scene, you really need to create a niche to be able to stick around, and Jonny's really does. Offering higher quality meats than a John & Mary's, Wegmans and/or Dibellas, Jonny's will leave you with a lastly impression. WIth a rather large menu, there is always something to try. There are soups, salads, wraps, grill items, deli and my personal favorite the 50 numbered sandwiches. The creativity of Jonny's really comes out in the variety of the sandwiches combinations in choices that will please any palette. My personal favorite has been #15 the Cubano. Roasted Pork Loin, Ham, Swiss, Pickles, Honey Mustard on grilled GarlicSub, slightly greasy, but darn good! Jonny's also has 2 food challenges that begs for a Man vs Food episode. The first one is the #'s challenge where you have to eat all the numbered sandwiches in order. If you finish(doesn't have to be all at once) and get your picture on the Wall of Fame and a t-shirt. The 2nd challenge is to Eat The Big mouth, which is 1 lb. Corned Beef, 1 lb. Pastrami, 1 lb. Turkey, 1/4 lb. Swiss, Russian Dressing, served on 4 pieces of Rye Bread. Portobello Burger- surprisingly delicious! Just had this burger the other day- plump juicy slices of marinated portobello mushroom (would have been easier to eat if the 'bello had stayed whole), plump juicy strips of roasted red pepper (whole vs. strips would have been easier to eat) and some other nonsense* on a Costanzo's roll. Very very good and satisfying. I love the menu here. You can't go wrong with any of their sandwiches and subs. And their soups are bomb too. My favorite: Corned Beef Cheddar Ale. I've only had it once, randomly. Not sure if it's a regular in the soup-of-the-day rotation, but man was it tasty! Warmed the soul! Their fish fry used to be more enjoyable before they decided to batter it in some sort of thick, peppery batter breading... Not quite sure of what's going on with that batter- it absorbs grease like a SPONGE, but the fish itself is good- just have to peel off some of the batter. So actually, it's not that good. Ha. I think I may the only person in the whole world to complain that there's too much chicken in the chicken soup. I guess I'm just used to my matzoh ball soup being just broth and a matzoh ball with a couple of pieces of carrots and celery thrown in for flavor and color. Not at "Johnny C's" though. Here the bowl has almost enough chicken to make a chicken dinner (almost). Most people would consider that a good thing. It's nice white meat chicken that my dining companion happily ate after I took spoon after spoon of it out of my bowl. The broth is perfectly flavored and the matzoh ball is just the right density. And, yup... there are a few carrot and celery pieces thrown in as well. Yum! "Johnny C's" also has many, many, MANY kinds of sandwiches (50 on the menu) and wraps and subs and burgers and salads. The rolls and bread are super fresh. The meat (Boar's Head) is top notch and ample. And, the veggies are crisp and perfect. The bite of the "Park Avenue" (turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, provolone cheese, and basil mayo on a lightly toasted sub roll) that I received in lieu of of the chicken from my soup was absolutely delicious. Over the last few years, I've moved around the country for work (Colorado/Arizona) and have had terrible experiences at so-called "top sub restaurants" in their respective locations. Although CO/AZ are not known for their cuisine, I've gone to at least 10 different places for subs and in my opinion does not stack up to Jonny Cs. This place is absolutely great. There are so many options on he menu that it's almost overwhelming. However, there is something for everybody there and the staff was very courteous and took the time to make recommendations and give ideas. I honestly don't even remember which menu item I had because there're were that many, but I know it was delicious! It was a breaded piece of chicken on a sub roll with bacon, cheese, and all other sorts of fixins. Half a sub combo'd with their massive "small" order of fries was about to fill me up. Their fries were the perfect golden crisp that you dream of in a French fry. Mixed with the flavors of the sandwich made it the perfect paring. I loved the place so much that I went a couple of days later and grabbed a breakfast sandwich (served all day). It was just as delicious as I had hoped it would be.
