It was a cold day in NYC today, & I was craving a hot drink. I would normally get coffee, but today I wanted to try something new. So I tried a hot bubble milk tea. To be precise I got a brown sugar bubble milk tea & it was amazing. It truly hit the spot. At Jooy Tea Shoppe you get to order on a kiosk. I loved that they let you regulate the amount of sugar in the drink. I went to their lowest setting & it was perfect for me. All the natural flavors came through. I tasted the brown sugar, I tasted the tea, & I tasted the milk, & I tasted the tapioca beads. The beads were slightly melted from the hot drink, & that made them even better than normal. My favorite milk tea shop in Hell's Kitchen. They have a wide selection of both hot and cold fruit and milk teas. My current favorite is the taro with purple rice. The only downside is they have many drinks that often become unavailable. Some of my favorites were the mango pomelo, oatsome, persimmon, papaya, mochi and oats, and their oats toppings. They have multiple ways of ordering. There was a self pay machine towards the front of the store and you could still walk up to the cashier and order there. The prices for Bubble Tea here are, I would say, on the lower side compared to other Bubble Tea shops in the city. Drinks go for about $5-8 for one order. I decided to go with the four seasons tea and it was ready relatively quickly. Definitely should've gone with 100% sugar because it needed a bit more sugar for me to not just feel like I was drinking plain stea. Thai Brûlée is already sweet on its own, so opting for 50% sugar helped reduce what could have been a sugar induced heart attack. My friends tried the Oreo Garden Milk Tea and Mochi Sesame drinks. Both of them had the cheese foam adding some saltiness to the mix and working well to balance the flavors. The Mochi Sesame is by far the heaviest of the 3 drinks we ordered; it comes out looking like a milkshake and is hard to even suck the straw from the thickness. If you like the taste of sesame flavored ice cream, this drink will be your go to option. The Oreo Garden Milk Tea, on the other hand, has milder flavors, allowing you to truly taste the Earl Grey tea with each sip. Honestly, you cannot go with any of their options. We got the normal black milk tea, and was honestly pretty confused. There was a very weak tea flavor, and it overwhelmingly tasted like chocolate milk, which is not what I'm looking for in my boba. The sweetness levels were overall good (I got 50%), and the pearls were too soft at first, but after letting it firm up in the drink, got to a nice chew. Solid drinks! Creme brulee was a solid pick. I reduced the sugar too so that when the creme brulee does eventually mix in, the drink isn't too sweet. However, I would go further to either 0 or 30% sugar (I did 50%). If you're big into sweet drinks though, I guess it doesn't hurt to keep it regular. When you walk in, there's a small preview of drinks on the wall. I thought that was the entire menu but it seems like the menu is much more vast - there's physical menus closer to the counter. Reference that when you're looking for a drink. Chewy boba. Not too strong in flavor but it is apparent. Overall, boba as a topping could be improved. All in all, only one of our drinks was worth actively recommending, and our final rating will reflect that (basically... if you come here just get the Mango Pomelo what are you waiting for). The biggest thing about this place is that the prices literally hurt me. Every time I read "$7.00" on the menu, I received one Julius Caesar stab to my body. Sure, the drinks come in a large size, but guys... this boba price inflation has gotta stop or I will no longer be able to fund my addiction. I got the same drink (Coco Mango), and I'm happy to report that it didn't have any plastic bits. It has a nice strong coconut flavor which goes great with the bits of mango. It also has a variety of textures that help make the drink more interesting. Finally it's a flavor I haven't seen elsewhere.
