I came across this place on either Facebook or Instagram. Looked up the reviews and figured we'd give it a shot. Bullseye. So our go to for pretty much any new Texmex to us is Carne Asada. We were very pleasantly surprised. Nicely plated with black beans, a cheese poblano and bell pepper mix, pickled red onions, black beans, blackened plantains, guacamole, and potatoes (instead of rice). Nice thick skirt steak cooked to a very good medium rare with a fair coating of chimichri sauce. I have to say this is one of the best plates of texture and flavor combinations I've had in a long while. The surprise was the upside down pineapple cake with a scoop of very good vanilla ice cream. Treat yourself, it's worth it. It's rare that I get 2 drinks, but the Mango Margarita was worth asking my wife to drive. We'll be back. read more

My and I chose this restaurant because of reviews on Nextdoor recommendations. The service was okay as it was his first day. Food was okay. We will not be returning due to so many better options available. Portions were large but the food was meh. I ordered the chicken enchiladas (no beef available) and it was okay but the large chunks of red onions in the dish was a bit much. Black beans and rice were good. I liked the space, and service was friendly. I enjoyed the chips and salsa, especially the verde (green) salsa. My chicken enchiladas verde/mole were quite tasty, but I was expecting more mole. My wife said afterwards hers were cold. Frankly I did t notice, but three of us waited quite some time to start eating our dinner due to one dinner not being delivered for quite some time later. We are being polite by waiting for the lady to be served, as is our custom. read more

My food was decent, but my buddy's meat was so tough it practically put up a fight. The service was good, and our server was friendly, but the final bill was hard to swallow even if the meat wasn't. This family-owned business has been open for about a month and we gave it a try today. FOOD: We asked what the primary cuisine was as I spotted some Latin American type flavors & we were told the chef is from Mexico. First, the chips and salsa are unlike any I'd ever had. 2-one tomato based and the other like a creamy avocado. The chips were addictive. I had the Chicken Crepes and my friend got the chicken enchiladas. This is where it took a turn for me, they essentially tasted the same, except mine had spinach and mushrooms. The wrappers on both seemed the same. ATMOSPHERE: Nice and clean, you could do families or date night, either one. SERVICE: Here is where they shine. Salvador was our waiter (the best) and when I asked him about the similarities of the two dishes, he went and told the chef. Fernando came right out and we talked about it. Next time, I will be ordering the Vegetable crepes as that is what made mine so good. TIP: Don't fill up on the chips and salsa. First things first: this is not your typical Tex-Mex spot. Think Latin flavors with heart. The restaurant is family-owned and was opened in honor of the owner's mother, which immediately sets a meaningful, personal tone. We visited on a Saturday and were pleasantly surprised by live music (apparently an every-Saturday thing). The musician was fantastic and really elevated the ambiance. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, and right when you walk in there's a lovely tribute to the owner's mother on the wall. Even the hallway to the bathrooms features more touching family photos--small details that make the space feel warm and intentional. Service was excellent. Our server, Lulu, was attentive, friendly, and accommodating. I asked for a spicier salsa (which technically doesn't exist on the menu), and she happily brought me fresh serranos--perfect solution. She also made sure my margarita had the spice I was craving. Speaking of drinks, the house margaritas are delicious and come garnished with a rosemary sprig, which was a really nice touch. The food was overall very good. Chips and salsa here are not what you might expect--two salsas are served: one tomato-based and the other a creamy avocado style. The chips were addictive, so pace yourself. We started with the queso con chorizo served in a skillet--pro tip: add a squeeze of lime once it's on the tortilla and it takes it to another level. My friend enjoyed the beef tacos, and I ordered the shrimp enchiladas. Portions were generous. I did accidentally order something with a white sauce, which isn't really my thing, but that's purely personal preference--it was still well prepared. Overall, we really enjoyed the ambiance, food, and service. This place has heart, great vibes, and solid execution. We'll definitely be back and are happy to add it to our regular rotation read more

Recently moved into the area and still discovering some good restaurants. Found Josefina's about a mile away from my house opposite of where I normally head out. Appears to have recently opened about a month ago however, the atmosphere of the restaurant lured me in. It was so well lit up and bright inside. I'm not a fan of dim lit restaurants as you just don't know what they are really trying to hide. Staff was very friendly and so hospitable that after a few minutes, I just wanted to be left alone but I let it go. I know they are doing their jobs and respect it. Some places just don't even give half as much service these days. Great job ladies!!! The food was great!! Enjoyed the chips and two salsas. The queso was delicious and had a a great bite to it!! I ordered the beef tacos with rice and black beans and taste was spot on. I enjoyed the homemade tortillas as well. I bought some packaged Mexican wedding cookies on the way out and the taste was great and reminded me of my mom's cookies she made me growing up. What can I say! This place was amazing!! We had the regular margaritas on the rocks and wow. The presentation was beautiful. They came with a sprig of rosemary and lime in them . We are margarita snobs and these tasted delicious. Rafael took care of us and he did such a good job . We both got the chicken tacos and wow !! They had pineapple in them and what a treat . I've never had anything like that . It comes with a side of cilantro , onion and jalapeños. So you can have spice on them or not. I chose not to. We also ordered the guacamole and that was so good too . Chunky and yummy . Also , we've never had chips like this . You will love them . We will be back for sure . This was our first time trying this place. We were excited because the reviews were great and this is close to us, and we're always looking to find a new restaurant in Richardson. Although the waitress got our margaritas mixed up (after waiting quite a long bit of time ‍) she had to take them back and have them fixed as my friend had a rocks margarita with taheen, and I had a frozen with salt, but it was the opposite, we again waiting quite a while ‍....when she returned the right drinks, they tasted pretty good. I don't know that I would say they were worth almost $13 apiece as they were small, but they were tasty. (The limes look like they needed revived...See the picture!?) Maybe they were supposed to be like this... but was unappealing and they were dried up. We waited quite a while for the food. No problem we were enjoying the nice weather... Although I enjoyed my chicken quesadillas (very tasty), I thought it was a bit pricey at $18 a plate. It did come with a v"small bowl of black beans. My friend got sour cream enchiladas, which was not on the menu, which it's a good thing because they were extremely tasteless. Really bland. Imagine some dried leftover chicken pieces wrapped in a plain flour tortilla with some warmed up sour cream and chicken broth perhaps. The Again we had to wait a while for the food, so it was disappointing. We also had to ask for napkins and cutlery. Our waitress, Lulu, was very pleasant, but I wondered why the service was so slow and ineffectual considering they were not busy. We sat outside, which was pleasant and inviting, but right before our food was served, a table was sat a good 18 inches away from me. We were basically dining Needless to say, it was quite uncomfortable and awkward. Seemed unnecessary, but it would've been embarrassing to move. Overall, mixed feelings. The service was very slow. They do offer Mexican favorites such as tacos, enchiladas, fajitas and more. If you look at their menu online, https://www.josefinascocina.com/, it is not a complete menu like you get on-site. I had the Chicken Enchiladas Verde which were delicious! Their complementary chips and two side salsas where different from the out of the bag Dorito style and light and crispy. My husband had the vegetarian enchiladas - equally yummy. Note: Not all their cocktail offerings are listed on the beverage menu so if you are a MaggyRita aficianado they have several types!! I had the Skinny Margarita - delicious! If you are a fan of La Sombra, which I think is excellent and love their menu, Josefinas has a different spin on their menus and doesn't appear to rival La Sombra.
