Since my old review disappeared, I mean not even on the filtered page, just gone, but luckily still appears on my own yelp page, I am putting it back up. Joseph Martin cannot run from their poor behavior and physically assaulting someone! This review is for the Beverly Hills Hotel location with hairstylist Maryam Farr. I was spending a few days in L.A. and decided to get my haircut there. I read good reviews and since I was going to the hotel already, I decided to get my hair done there. Where ever I live, I always go to the top hair salons around and love the high end service. The girl who picked up the phone assured me that this hairstylist is excellent at cutting hair. When I got there, I had to wait while she was cutting a gentleman's hair who worked in the hotel. When she finished, his hair was all over the chair and she barely wiped it off for me. The salon is small and not very posh, and the sink for washing hair did not seem that clean. I talked to her about the possibility of extensions, she showed me different types of extensions, but I decided against them. She kept insisting that I do extensions or get highlights. That should have been my warning, where I got up and left! She starts to cut my hair having no comprehension of what I explained to her and not even realizing or asking where I part my hair, as I would soon figure out. At the end, (and just an fyi the owner of the salon happened to be sitting in the back talking to another hairstylist all during this part.), I told her the style doesn't fit me and asked her to change a few things. She still couldn't comprehend what I was saying and literally starting arguing and yelling at me. I was in shock, because I have never been treated so badly at any hair salon and a I am a soft spoken person. Meanwhile, the owner is just sitting there and watching her argue and be rude to me. He was looking right at us through the mirror! She started to get mad because I asked her to change my hair style again, and at one point she grabbed my head and aggressively yanked it backwards pulling my hair and wrapping one arm around my forehead, basically put me in a headlock. It hurt and I even yelled out as everyone just sat there and watched. Eventually, I gave up and decided to leave, by that time the owner was gone, and she told me that I could come back and she would "fix it". Found out that she was leaving to go out of town the next day and the salon told me that I could come back with another hairstylist later. The story just gets better from here. So, a week or so later I make my way up from La Jolla to LA in the rain. I get there and there are candles lit in the salon and all the lights are out, even though all the rest of the hotel has power. I walk in and they told me I can't be seen because the power is out (even though their computer was on). There are clients in the salon having their hair done. The new hairstylist came out to the hallway and looked at my hair and wondered what she had done with it. He agreed to fix it in their OC location, I told them I wasn't sure, it seemed like too much trouble and I was going out of town soon. The girl at the desk gave me a travel size shampoo and conditioner as consolation and told me they would refund my money later. Obviously, I never got my refund, but I did get a call from the OC location confirming an appointment that I never made. Worst $200 I have ever spent and way too stressful. I'll stick to my awesome hair salons in La Jolla where they treat me with respect and know how to cut hair. read more

I wanted to treat myself to a Blow-out and straighten for my birthday. David Palmer was more than welcoming when I asked if this salon styled natural black female hair! He made me feel like I was in very safe and capable hands. He was very professional and comforting in instructing the assistants how to wash and condition my hair because, as most of us know, Black hair is VERY different. I also wanted a cut but couldn't describe it in the most specific way because I hadn't fully settled on what I truly wanted. As he straightened my hair, we had such a fun and enlightening conversation about hair and life in general, and he wound up cutting and styling my hair EXACTLY as I wanted. It's STILL gorgeous, and I get compliments on my hair everyday. It's been about 2 weeks since, y'all! I LOVE how my hair turned out! Love Love Love! David can do Black hair very well, but he's very well-versed in numerous types of hair as well! Basically, if you want fantastic style with some bounce, shine, and swag, setup an appointment with David. You will NOT be disappointed! Much love, y'all! P.S. Having been a fan of the Joseph Martin French Argon Oil (which I'd been given as a gift, and made every last drop count for over 12 months because it became life-support for my frizzy, hippy-dippy horsetail hair), I thought I'd treat myself to a decent haircut. I hoped their salon would be as fantastic as this product. I called Monday and asked for the first available stylist to cut my hair (and assumed it might be weeks before they had an opening). The hair gods were with me because I was given an appointment for the next day with the divine Olivia. Not only is she superbly talented, but she's intuitive, kind, funny and empathetic and somehow put into words exactly what I was wanting (without ever insulting my crispy, bushy straw blanket of hair). I love my new haircut so much I'm trying to think of gifts I want to bring her for my next appointment. I couldn't stop hugging her and thanking her for her incredible skill at taming my out of control mane. Olivia is an artist with a genuinely sensitive approach and I am so grateful and inspired by her remarkable talents. read more

Had my eyebrows shaped by Marie at Joseph Martin and she made them perfectly straight and beautifully even in a snap. I am super picky and she gave me the best shape for me face. It makes such a difference that I just had to right a review. Tired of the long wait at Anastasia so was looking someone new . Then I find out she worked there for years. She has a very detailed eye and has been doing this forever, not that you could tell because she looks so young. She also gave my some great makeup tips. read more

Ok this review is for TOTTS . He is amazing. So I came to him after seeing his work and I have a long ,thick ,& frizzy hair. He did an amazing cut and beautiful style after. Tell him what u want and he will do exactly. I just asked not to be too short but then I trusted him. He knows what looks the best for ur face shape and I highly recommend him. Another AMAZING 5 STAR review for Tat!!! He came highly recommended from a friend of a friend back in 2005. I have thick wavy/curly long brown hair, which means it's not an easy task to find an experienced hair stylist that knows how to cut my kind of hair. Before I found Tat, I had a decent hair stylist, but I moved in 2005 and that's when I found Tat. When i first left the salon after my first cut & style, I had strangers asking me before I got to my car if I was doing a hair commercial. I received so many compliments. I LOVE the way Tat cuts & styles hair. He is truly my favorite. He is the most skilled & talented because he can cut any type of hair and any style....just bring him a picture and he can give u exactly what you ask for....or, leave it to him by asking him to make u look pretty and you will leave looking beautiful!
