I was prescribed an NTI dental appliance. I was told I was getting something to Relieve teeth grinding (bruxism). To my horror, over the course of 9 months this appliance caused my bite to become "open," (although I didn't know it at the time). What I did know is that I had a nagging dull ache in the back of my mouth all day long. And when I went in to see Joseph Sachs and ask him about the ache, he told me the x-ray showed no sign of abscess so perhaps I needed an adjustment on my crown in the bottom rear. being familiar with adjustments from when the crown went in, I agreed. And before I could object, this man grinded down my crown until the underlying tooth was exposed and then told me he needed to replace it. I was absolutely dumbfounded. How could this have happened? I found many opinions after this and each dentist said the same thing after looking at the before and after x-rays.... what he executed was a "significant reduction" without anesthesia. The next day I woke up with gruesome pain on a level I had never experienced before. There is no way in this world this is okay. I went in to this dentist reporting a dull ache and left without my crown and an excruciating inescapable pain. After months trying to gathering my wits, and after seeing seven Dentists, we discovered IT WAS THE NTI DENTAL APPLIANCE that was causing my pain. Just discontinuing use would have solved the problem. As the Neophyte, how could I possible have known? Apparently, the jaw adjusts when you sleep. Over time, this appliance is KNOWN to open the bite. I am beside myself with agony over this experience. And to add insult to injury, before I discovered it was the appliance that had caused my pain, when I reached out to the office, Joseph Sachs sent me a message in their portal essentially telling me that I was "blaming him for my problems." I have genetically weak teeth, a fear of the dentist, love for sweets...a recipe for tooth decay, and had bad dental work done all my life. So I needed more than just fillings replaced, etc.; there was a lot of work that needed to be done. Enter Dr. Joseph Sachs. I became aware of Dr. Sachs when my teeth had gotten so bad that I was embarrassed to even smile; not a good thing for anyone, but especially bad for a litigator. I knew it was time for me to see a really good dentist. This was about 15+ years ago, and I must tell you that I was only looking for a good dentist; the thought that there might be an exceptional dentist never even occurred to me. I am not the kind of person that is prone to overstatement or exaggeration; I choose my words carefully and with precision. By "exceptional" I mean better than anyone I could have possibly imagined, and in every aspect of his expertise, personality, approach, empathy, and touch. Dr. Sachs is that rare professional who not only an expert in his field, but is detail oriented and a terrific communicator. In my opinion, Dr. Sachs is the paradigm of what a dentist should be. He actively listened to me and understood my concerns/fears. He educated me and respected my time, and he maintains a clean office with an equally terrific staff. Of paramount importance to me is that he genuinely cares and is a perfectionist in his work (which is masterful). I met Dr. Sachs through a recommendation from one of my colleagues. Of immediate concern were a host of issues, but, to cut to the chase, I required many root canals, caps and I cannot imagine going through what I did with anyone other than Dr. Sachs. Because of my situation, I understood at the time that I would need implants in 10-12 years. When that time hit (a little over 2 years ago, I put it off (let's be honest, I love Dr. Sachs, but does anyone really WANT to have an implant?). Actually, I needed several implants and could not put it off any longer because I understood the negative effect on the jaw bone that occurs from failing to timely address the need for an implant. Dr. Sachs works very closely with a dental surgery office he recommends, so, I visited with their office and found them to be equally incredible, and in conjunction with Dr. Sachs, I had all of the necessary implants completed. Not only was the work relatively painless and completed on schedule, but most importantly, I can honestly say that I could not be happier with the entire process, and especially the result. I would pass on this place. Dr. Sachs is nice, but I only saw him once in the four times I went here. I guess I got push over to the sub-par detest. But more important, they person that cleaned my teeth was too ruff and acted like it was a race. And the biggest issue I have is the front desk people are terrible. They only listen to each other and not to customer and anything outside of handing them a credit card is bothering them. They hate it when you tell them they mess up again on something. Maybe if they focused on their job and not taking about what they did last night , what they are doing tonight and what they are doing this weekend, they would make less mistakes. People can hear you talking in the lobby kids!!! Find some place that is more professional and takes time to clean our teeth and shows its customers the respect they should be getting. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Sachs for about two years and I am a fan. I hate going to the dentist, so it's no small recommendation on my part to recommend this office. Here are some of the reasons you should go to Dr. Sachs: - Good work on my teeth, for the most part painlessly. I have had cavities refilled, chips fixed, a bridge, and a deep cavity filled that Dr. Sach's saved from having to be a root canal. - Dr. Sach's definitely takes his time to make sure the work he is doing is perfect. We spent a lot of time making sure my bridge was perfect, and I really appreciate that, as it cost me a lot of money. - Dr. Sach's uses the newest technology. Gone is the putty to take an impression of your teeth. Hello laser technology to perfectly map your teeth and create the perfect custom cap, or bridge in my case. - Dr. Sach's is a bit of a chatty-kathy, and I find this to be a comforting trait in someone digging around in my mouth with a mini power drill. - Dr. Sach's responds to calls to his emergency service pretty darn quickly. - Good recommendations for specialist. I needed all four wisdom teeth pulled and Dr. Sachs's hooked me up with Dr. Ward (see my Yelp review), who is a god among oral surgeons. - Danny, the Dental Hygienists has a good attitude and does not berate you for your recent imperfect flossing habits. He gently nudges you to floss more regularly, dropping hints throughout the cleaning on ways to incorporate more flossing into your daily routine, and by the end of the appointment I always leave swearing I will take his advice and floss more. The only downside to this office is sometimes you end up waiting a bit past your scheduled time to be seen. read more

Because of Covid, I decided not to travel uptown to see my regular dentist, as I would have to use public transportation and once there would have to get on an office elevator. I still don't really feel safe doing both. So after speaking with some people in my building 2 names came up. Dr Cruz and Dr Sachs both in the same office and a few blocks away from where i live in chelsea, and also on the ground floor! What else could i have asked for. I must say I was super impressed with the way they set up the office with social distancing measures and other safety ones. The gal at the front desk Aphrodita was super friendly and nice and made me feel very comfortable as i was anxious about coming to a new practice. After filling out some forms (which she was kind enough to help me with as I never used a digital pad!) i was taken into a very clean room where the dental asst. Gabriel took xrays and he too was so nice. My hygenist Paige was a doll and was gentle and patient with me and gave me an excellent cleaning. She was very knowledgable and i was most impressed with her skills. Now, to Dr Cruz, a real gentle soul of a person. He reassured me my teeth and gums were fine after reviewing the xrays etc. and that all i really needed was a good cleaning which i got and a followup cleaning in 6 months. All in all it was a home run for me being a few blocks away from my apartment and having this excellent experience at their office. I would definitely recommend them to everyone. I chose convenience over expertise, and boy was I almost Shanghaied. Proximity does not pay, in fact it can cost you. Moral of the story: Dr. Sachs tried to sell me on "Invisalign, and teeth whitening" and also told me that I needed a root canal and a crown for why I saw him. He quoted me $2,000+ to fix my cracked tooth. Things were tight for me, so I decided to wait. Meanwhile my tooth broke while in Miami. When I saw a dentist down there he told me I did not need a root canal. Then he fixed my tooth, without a crown, and I've been fine for over a year. The bill: $220.00. Dr. Sachs must make quite a lot of money, thank goodness not from me. Pass. read more

I read the last review and I'm wondering if there is an imminent invasion of pod people and Dr. Sachs was the first earthling taken. Because I have the polar opposite opinion of the practice. And I haven't been there since 2013 and the delay in my review is because I wanted to wait until I got my records moved to a new dentist. [A paragraph of my review has been removed by me. If you need an appointment and it is an emergency and your not currently a patient, this is not the place for you! I was treated well when I called and was told that they would call me back after speaking with the doctor. When I called back later the doctor still did not have time to look at his schedule. No call back. It was the weekend, so I thought, no worries, I'm not in pain, they will call back on Monday, I'm sure. But Monday came and I thought I need to be proactive, so I called. Again the staff was very nice, and assured me that she thought she could fit me in the next day. But again I was told that they would call me back. Now it's several days later and still no call back. If I were to guess, (my issuance is the only insurance that they accept) they don't want to deal with insurance. If this is the case, I ask that they ask to be removed from accepting insurance. I almost called back and told them I didn't have any insurance. I wonder if they would quickly have an appointment for me then. But, I'd hate to be given poor treatment once they found out I did. Dr Sachs saved me! I tripped and fell and chipped my two front teeth. I was immediately seen by Dr Sachs and he gave me natural temporaries. The procedure was painless and Dr Sachs was very calming. He reassured me everything was going to be okay and gave me a plan for my permanent teeth. I got my teeth cleaned and bleached in my next few appointments and the hygienist and assistant were lovely. Dr. Sachs is absolutely fantastic. And so is Dr. Cruz and ALL the staff. When my front tooth (veneer) cracked a week before my trip to Asia, no one would fix it. "Oh, that will take two weeks," several dentists told me. In three business days, Dr. Sachs fixed the broken tooth, took impressions and got the new veneer in place. And it looks gorgeous. Stunning. Dr. Sachs is a brilliant dentist. And he is charming and gracious--and very funny! All the staff is warm and caring. And he has all the latest equipment. Dr. Sachs is an amazing dentist. Any work he has done for me over the years has been of the highest standard. He recently completed my first implants. He was very patient explaining to me the process, how long to expect the work to take and the expense. He worked in partnership with Dr. Irwin Levy, who was the oral surgeon. Dr. Levy also shares the same high standards as Dr. Sachs. Dr. Sachs always uses the most advanced state of the art imaging tools for any of the work that he does. He will never settle for a fit that is anything less than perfection. After the implants were inserted, I couldn't believe how natural they felt and looked. read more

Dr. Cruz is the best. He is super nice and thorough and explains everything as he does it. I had to go in today for my first filling ever (perfect record is ruined, boohoo!) and I was nervous. He asked "You okay?" about every thirty seconds which I really appreciated. However, he was so gentle and skilled that it didn't hurt at all! It also didn't hurt that after I made a joke about needing a teddy bear the hygenist brought me a stuffed purple dinosaur to cling to. Ha. Oh and they were also really nice about fitting me in and getting me everything I needed when I told them I was going to run out of dental insurance in a few weeks. My doctor here is Dr. Cruz, and I give this place 5 stars because he is just amazing. I've had 3 root canals here and I didn't think it could go as easily as they have. Dr. Cruz is very informative and makes sure you're aware of everything that's about to happen with the procedure. He's comforting and wants to make sure you don't feel pain and are comfortable. I definitely recommend him as a dentist, he makes me feel better about the mess of a tooth situation I have. I really think that five stars is hard to earn... And I have been to more Dentists than I would care to ever know in my life.. Dr. Sachs definitely earns every single star! Okay... not cheap! He is a NYC dentist. But he is worth every penny. He looked at my teeth and could tell exactly which dentist had done which work. He has a great way of making conversation to keep your mind off the work - but truthfully he also one of the best at administering the shot of numbing that I have ever had. I have gotten my teeth cleaned here twice. Both times I was able to make an appointment in a reasonable amount of time. They assist very nicely and the process of getting started there is very easy, as is check in each time I go. The staff is extremely friendly and see you on-time. The dental hygienists I have had are gentle, thorough and very nice. They know exactly what to do and do it in a timely manner. The dentist then comes in and spends time reviewing, and chatting. Both dentists I have had are very friendly and knowledgeable. They have made suggestions for anything I have asked and take their time to answer my questions. Over the past year I have had extensive dental work, involving implants, root canals and several crowns. I had great experiences for the past couple years, but I will not go back after the poor customer service of both the staff AND Dr. Sachs. My insurance covers 90% of cavities, and I was quoted a bill of a $250 copay for 2 cavities, implying that the cost of filling a cavity is $1,000 each. However, the previous day I called and I asked the price and the office staff gave me a reasonable number, $90 copay after insurance. When I asked for further clarification of the bill, Dr. Sachs himself came out and said I was wasting his time and that I should call before the appointment to confirm. I DID call, but Dr. Sachs would not listen to what I had to say. This is not a patient, empathetic doctor that you want to have a drill in your mouth. The staff also became very defensive about their actions when I asked why they are charging $1,000+ per cavity. Be very careful of how they are billing your insurance company. read more

These people are awful! I called ahead of time to make sure they accepted my health insurance. They said yes, but then at the time of check out they asked me to pay up front the full amount and then they would submit a claim to the insurance company. They were not a part of my insurance network and I should have check with the insurance company instead of taking their word for it. Dr. Sachs rushes patients in and out and there was always an hour wait. In fact, there was another woman in the waiting room threatening to never return because she always had to wait so long. While he was working on my teeth, he continued to speak poorly of one of his assistants to another assistant in the room. Very unprofessional. I went in again to have one cavity filled. While working on that cavity he said there was a second one (which did not show up in the xrays of the previous appt) and started drilling. So I was charged for two fillings instead of one. Not only that, he was in such a rush and left a huge gunk inbetween those two teeth that my current dentist had to smooth out. Stay away. read more

After seven years of awful dentist and worse hygienists, I finally found Dr Sachs. He does a neat job, cheerfully answers any questions, gives sound advice and doesn't berate you for occasionally forgetting to floss. Everyone at the office is friendly and no one rushes you or makes you wait without explanation. My pearly(ish) whites feel safe and sound with Dr Sachs. Bonus points for a great sense of humor too.
