This is your typical Mexican establishment. I stopped by in the morning for a breakfast burrito and it was a-ok. The service is great, the girl at the register is super sweet. The salsa at the salsa bar is really, really, really spicy! The green salsa is less spicy than the red one and the carrots are also super spicy! Parking is pretty ample. read more

Food is good taste fresh, lots of different kinds of salsa all are amazing. However I gave them three stars out of five even though they have great taste in food it's obviously fresh and made on site the reason I took two stars off was for the following the price is competitive however the serving sizes are a bit small. I know that Jose special is an amazing burrito extremely large that comes in either chicken or ground beef and Ken for an additional cost be ordered in Carne Asada The place is clean sanitary and the staff is friendly but I can the prices are competitive unfortunately the portion sizes are extremely small. I would recommend dining at Jose's tacos if you are in the Oceanside area looking for a quick Mexican meal however just be aware that's the burritos or small. read more

This has become our go-to Mexican food spot. My husband always gets the Jose's special burrito which could feed four people- seriously it's huge! The enchilada and chile relleno combo plate is delish. They don't skimp on the shrimp for the shrimp fajita plate. We always recommend to our friends. read more

Sooooooo...what better way to start of my life on Yelp with nothing better than a review of one of my hometown favorites. Every time I head over to visit my parents' house this place is always the first stop to fill up - everyone knows there's nothing to eat at home - at least for the first few hours. I'll even go right after dental appointments just to spite my doctor. Anyways, this place has been around since yesteryear and never ever disappoints. The menu has been pretty much the same since the early 90s and the food is consistently good. I've had about 75% of what's on the menu so trust what i have to say. Here's a rundown of what makes me fast 24 hours in advance before consuming mass quantities: -Carnitas Burritos: pork + pico + guac = best quality crack. It's the best i've ever had and no one even comes close. Ask for the carnitas to be cooked well done and it comes out nice & crispy. Getting it double-wrapped is good too but only get it if you're showing off. -Chicken Rolled Tacos / Tacquitos: the chicken is well seasoned - i don't know what they put in it but it's different than any other rolled tacos i've had. Maybe it's better i don't know. Get 'em with guac too. -Carne Asada Fries: I can crush these in one sitting. It's almost like a desert to me. Since carne asada is usually cooked in large amounts at a time and reheated when you order it, ask for the meat well done and it gets just on the border of being burnt but not quite. It comes with all the trimmings and is loaded with everything you don't need to live a long healthy life. Eh. It's worth it. -Salsa Bar: huge bowls of pico, some burnt red sauce, the green sauce, and pickled carrots & chiles. Put it on everything you order, even small wounds. -Extras: they take cash only but there's an ATM machine right inside to ease your worry. They serve beer too. And it's not a "depot". It's just near Home Depot - it's called Jose's Taco Shop. Tacos aren't stored or deposited here. Sheesh. At one point i liked the food so much I asked for a job there as a cook. The owner asked me to memorize the menu and to come back in a week. I got lazy and never followed through. I figured i should leave it to the pros - and these guys are gooooooood. read more

This little whole in the wall has been here for years. This is actually my office's go-to place for Mexican food. Everything that I've ordered and tried here is good. My usual items are the 3 rolled chicken tacos with guac and carne asada fries. Not THE BEST Mexican food, but it's quick, easy and fairly inexpensive. The lady who owns the place knows who we are and is very friendly. The place gets busy during lunchtime and it may be helpful to call your order in for easy pick up. read more

This is a basic taco shop in a strip mall (of the Home Depot). I have eaten here a dozen times and always enjoyed my meal. The staff isn't that talkative, but is friendly and makes your food fast. I have only really had the burritos and enjoyed them (the breakfast burrito was especially good). There is a little salsa bar in the lobby. The place is rather cramped due to their bulky wooden chairs and tables. The floor is made of uneven Spanish pavers and the grout could use a deep clean. Will be back soon! read more

I was hungry after class (my college is just around the corner) and I came here because it was the highest rated cheap thing close by. I shared the breakfast burrito with my fella and we wished we each had our own, it was so good. Here's the detailed run down on the breakfast burrito if you're like me and scan yelp for specifics: Curls of crunchy bacon, shredded cheese, eggs (we asked for well done and they were fried golden brown just like we asked), and chopped home-fry-y potatoes (no fries in this puppy) all wrapped up in a really tasty kind of tender not too chewy not too old not too wet not too dry tortilla. It was a good tortilla, all grilly and home-pressed tasting, for those of you who pay attention to such things. Note: my bf complained that the bacon flavor was kind of lost in the burrito, I too noticed it wasn't the worlds most smokey bacon but it was still yummy and sooo crunchy. I loved it. I got one of all three salsas available (they also had jalapeno and carrots you could help yourself too... opposed to one of those Berto places that want your 50-85 cents). The salsas weren't as fantastic as the review(s?) might have led me to believe, but seriously it was probably a too much hype kind of thing. They were unique. The verde was creamier than most taco shops serve with flakes of cilantro in it, the darker red one was pretty good, the spiciest, and the pico de gallo looking stuff was diced nicely and had quite a bit of cilantro (which I love). We'll come back for sure. Also, service was nice, nothing over the top but pretty polite and quick. Daughter always orders Cheese Quesadilla and/or Bean & Cheese Burrito. I am a huge fan of Carne Asada Torta, Chicken Tosada, California Burrito and Rolled Tacos! I enjoy being recognized by the Chef and Cashier when I walk in as they pretty much have my order on the grill by the time I pay. I remember coming here when I was a little girl with my dad after we did a Home Depot trip. The food was good and I thought till this day the food would still be good because my parents still come here sometimes. I haven't been here in many years and finally came back on 7/25. All I wanted was an order of 6 rolled tacos with just cheese and sour cream for my husband and I. When I received my order, there was barely any cheese or sour cream. I asked the man at the front politely if he could please add a little bit more cheese and he said with an attitude , it would be 50 cents more. I showed him how much cheese they had put and again with his attitude he said that's how much they always put. Very stingy. The rolled tacos were already $7.88. And normally I wouldn't mind paying the extra charge, money isn't the problem. The problem was the rolled tacos barely had anything on them to begin with (look at my picture) It didn't even taste good. The meat had a rubbery texture and flavorless. We will never return here. The hot carrots are always fresh and they keep the the whole salsa bar fully stocked and clean every time I've been here. My homegirl Mo posted pictures of carne asada fries in o-side and said that supposedly crinkle cut fries work well, and not only that, these fries were cheap (5.35 at time of purchase), plus it was like a 5min drive from the house. Mo was right. Me and Janette came here, and Janette said she used to come here to get the rolled tacos as a kid. I wanted to go here before I flew home to SF. Carne Asada Fries - Krinkle Cut fries that are actually good? Hell yes. The fries were spot on and crunchy, though it was scalding early on. The quality of meat is a bit on the leaner side, but was seasoned nicely. Surprisingly not that much cheese, however, which made me sad because I love cheese... especially on carne asada fries. There was ample sour cream and guac though, which the guac having a nice avocado chunk to it. Tip: Add the red sauce... its bold and spicy flavor is suited and offers contrast to the creamy sauciness as well as the fried/grilled flavor combos. Here's the thing. I love how close it is... but with Cotixan being 15min away, I could see myself just driving the extra 10min to get cotixan fries. Nevertheless, this place is still really good, and if I was just craving carne asada fries, I'd probably come here if I was in O-side. read more

The first time I went to Jose's Taco Depot, I laughed a little because the signage said Jose's Taco, with a little "taco below it. So every occasion since, my mom asks, "Do you want to get Jose's Taco Taco?" it's almost like a tradition. They have the best rolled tacos I've had so far. The cheese that they put on it just makes it soooo good. They've got such texture and flavor it makes my mouth water just writing about them. ^__^ Jose's is even cool with creating your own burrito concoction. My friend and I went craving carne asada with beans and cheese. And they totally delivered. It was the best thing ever! And was still pretty affordable considering and the alterations we made. The seating area is pretty spaceous and has a very comfortable setting. The salsa bar is pretty simple and has a great selection of mild to hot sauces. Even ordering to-go is pretty well done. It only takes about 10 minutes from home but it's definitely worth it when you're on the go. read more

7/19/18 Around 9:15am I just had a horrible experience with the Mexican light skin, blonde hair cashier rude AF since the beginning when i placed the order over the phone. When i walked in she wouldn't even turn and look at me, she just mumbled not wanting attend to me, If I was there for pick up? I said yes, got charged and walked out. She has no customer service at all she shouldn't be in the front unless sadly shes owner or family member.. keep her in the back, she makes customers feel not welcome. She spoiled my appetite! Back in the day we would walk from almost anywhere. I mean like the park, or the old crib. The food was it. They don't have a drive-thru but it's whatever. All the food was bomb. Maybe they're under new ownership or something. The cook for sure is different. This new guy doesn't now how to read. I got all the way back to the pad and was a carne asada quesadilla short. I called it in and could here the guerra arguing about how many where on the order. Smh..
