I have no idea how they get these good reviews. I had the veggie burrito and it was the worst I ever had. No beans...they used what looked and tasted like a canned veggie mix with sour cream that was indeed sour in a tortilla shell. Gross, couldn't finish it. I've only had the breakfast burritos here. I will usually stop in if I'm in a hurry because service is generally pretty fast. The breakfast burritos are the perfect size, the bacon inside is crispy and the salsa bar is self-serve so you can take as many as you need. I used to live up the street from Albertacos in Vista and I miss it there so I'm glad Jose's is nearby! read more

The food was okay. The burritos are big, which make it a hit for the mainly male based construction worker type customers that were coming in. However, major complaint about the service. The girl taking our order seemed partial to males, but indifferent or downright rude to female customers. Before placing my order I asked her about 2 of the burrito options on their menu. Deciding that they both contained ingredients I didn't want to eat, I told her, 'I'll just have a Chile Relleno with a side of guacamole.' The whole exchange took about 5 seconds. What I received was a Chile relleno burrito with the ingredients I was trying to avoid. I walked it back to the counter to explain the misunderstanding. She rolled her eyes, insinuated it was my fault because I was asking her questions about burritos before placing my order, and then proceeded to bad mouth me in Spanish to the cook while putting in my updated order. Yo entiendo espanol, estupida! She also bad mouthed my other friend when she kindly requested an extra plate. My friend said she will never return to this place again because that girl was so rude. I agree. I don't care how big the burritos are, I won't risk having such a rude person do who knows what to my food. We all have bad days, but if she doesn't like giving customer service, don't be in this line of work and then bad mouth all the female customers right in front of them assuming they don't understand! Four stars is pretty generous for this place. People need to think of yelp review stores like hotel stars, it's like comparing this place to a Marriott, when it's more of a Holiday Inn at best. I get it, you like Mexican food. This place is just ok. I got the California Burrito, and it was a decent size but overall the meat was kind of bland, the potatoes were fine, but they weren't fries. I went for the first time last night and had 2 tacos. I had the chicken adobado & a carnitas taco, both had guacamole. The chicken adobado was delicious and the carnitas was ok I would buy it again but not the greatest. Well had to try this place out since it's close to home. I ordered breakfast burrito to go, picked up some of their pico de gallo and green salsa. I wasn't that impressed, I've had better and bigger breakfast burritos at angelo's on coast hwy, I should have gone there but I was too lazy to drive up there lol. 1- pico de gallo had no flavor whatsoever, tasted like chopped up veggies soaking in water. 2- green salsa also lacking any seasoning or personality very very mild 3- bacon was crispy which is a plus, but there were only bacon bits in my burrito. Maybe Jose forgot to buy more and that's all he had left were bits? 4- size was smaller than what you get everywhere else, and loaded with boiled potatoes, again seasoning is missing. I've come here a few times and have always been satisfied. It was recommended to me a few years ago by my sister and my mom, which turned out to be the lunch hot spot for the whole SCRIPP's Medical Practice. It's actually one of the few burrito places that is UNDER 4 bucks for a Carne Asada Burrito. Their tortillas are bomb and I love the fact that you can choose between chicken OR beef rolled tacos. Jose's Taco is currently my go to Mexican restaurant. I've tried numerous items from here. I would recommend the Mixed enchiladas, California burrito, rolled tacos, Carne Asada Fries, Jose Special (if your up for the challenge), and bean and cheese burrito. I also am a fan of the daily special they have. The salsas are pretty good. The green one is by far the best. The spicy carrots are solid as well. Another reason I really like this place is that the carne asada typically has flavor and isn't bland. I will continue to come here unless something changes. read more

This was the spot but after paying 11bucks for my baja plate and drink that had no flava and was not hot plus dirty tables and floors i think they just gave up on this place. Cinco de Mayo - you have to eat or do something Mexican on this day. I headed to Jose's taco shop to satisfy this Mexican craving. I went with the #5 Combination Plate (Beef Burrito & Cheese Enchilada) for $5.65. The rice was good, and the refried beans were pretty good with melted cheese. My beef burrito had chunks of tender beef oozing out along with peppers. The self service "salad bar" had fresh cucumbers and radishes to neutralize the heat from the chipotle sauce, green hot sauce, jalapeno peppers, carrots, and onions, and fresh green onions. The gigantic horchata was pretty good too and is a must with all Mexican food. Overall, Jose's taco shop is gem of Mexican food in Oceanside. It's definitely better and more authentic than a Del Taco or Taco Bell any day. It's casual enough for a quick bite as well. read more

Pretty standard affair. They will make most anything you ask them and it will taste good. Their prices are fair, not expensive but not cheap. The food quality is pretty decent - it's not really hole in the wall type, but it's not nice sitdown type either. It's kind of in the middle. It's not the best food ever, but it's plenty good. I've eaten here on a number of occasions. The quality is pretty consistent each time I've gone. My favorite things are their california burrito, and Super Fries. I usually get them with Pollo Asada instead of Carne Asada. This is way to much food for one person sadly so I always have to pick between the two. The staff is friendly enough, the place is clean and the wait usually isn't too bad. One thing worth noting - If you're calling to order over the phone, don't ask "is this the one near home depot". This review is of the carne asada fries. My qualifications: experienced california mexican food enthusiast of over 20 years. Have eaten at restaurants across SoCal and NorCal. The fries were mediocre, they were substantial in portion but lacking in flavor. The zigzag fries were nice, but the carne asada was fairly bland and lacking in seasoning. They heap on quite a lot of guacamole and sour cream which is a positive for me. The salsa bar is also somewhat disappointing- their red sauce adds heat but had a mild flavor, which may be nice for some but I like it when a mexican place has unique sauces that can make the dish. read more

I love getting street tacos here, granted, they're not the itty-bitty kind, but they are yummy and sometimes... Bigger is better! lol I love the salsa bar they have available. the red sauce is a little lame in flavor, but I use it more for the carrots and pico anyway. :) My only complaint is they overdo it with the lettuce! I am not a rabbit. I don't need more lettuce than guacamole and cheese on my rolled tacos when I take the time to ask for extra cheese and guac because if I wanted a salad I would ask for one. After looking at some reviews on yelp, I thought I'd try this place out... The menu is pretty diverse and all the items look affordable... So I went with the California burrito and three chicken rolled tacos. The burrito was huge and I could barely eat it all. The rolled tacos on the other hand were quite crispy maybe overcooked but still good nonetheless but I only had room to polish off two out of the three that are served to you in one order. The next time I come back I think I'll try one of the combination plates The atmosphere is kind of small and cramped, but it's what you'd expect to find out of the stripmall restaurant. The service was okay, but the cleanliness was not that great. All in all I got a belly full of food for under a bucks and that's hard to be anywhere! I recommend this place to anyone looking for a good Mexican burrito or some quick fast food on the run. Give it a shot! read more

I'm really glad Jose's is so close to my house, because their food is awesome! I usually go in the evenings during the week and they seem to be steadily and quickly serving a lot of people. Their carne asada is great, and they use crinkle cut fries. I've not tried their pollo asada yet but their shrimp burritos are big and fresh. This is definitely my favorite taco shop in the area. I've come here plenty of times, but most recently I seem to have come down with some mild food poisoning. Somebody may have left the guacamole out for too long. Despite being an absolute pain in the ass to eat, the chile relleno burrito was really delicious. A lot of places will add unnecessary ingredients in order to maintain size and shape, but they don't mess around with that here, which I appreciate. The carnitas burrito, unfortunately, was sub-par. I specifically asked for the pork to be cooked well done, but it seemed like they ignored the request. The meat was pretty bland, and there was only a very little bit of salsa in it. Like others have mentioned, the salsa bar is one of the best around. You can take as much as you want, and the quality is great. read more
