We happened upon this tucked away neighborhood cafe . The food ranges from breakfast , brunch and lunch and closes at 2pm . We were greeted by the manager with open arms who could not have been more welcoming . ( I felt as if my departed mom was pulling us in to her kitchen to sit and eat her food with every visit). We felt the appreciation of you choosing to dine there. The smell of cleanliness when you walk in made it all the more comfortable being there . We were there at about 11:00am and couldn't decide on lunch or brunch . Brunch looked too good to pass up , so we placed our order( you order at the register before sitting down) . I opted for the avocado toast on wheat with an over medium egg . They seasoned it with a seasoning which included Parmesan cheese . I might add it was paired together perfectly. My husband ordered the French toast which did not disappoint in flavor ( of course I had to try his) . It was so good . It almost tasted as if it had an all spice flavor to it . It was so good and reminded me of fall season which was nice to think of considering this July heat and humidity we've been getting. My 8 year old settled for the buttermilk pancakes which were also nice and filling for him . I had reservations as I recently made him buttermilk pancakes which he didn't like.So the fact that he cleaned his plate of buttermilk pancakes at Labor Cafe speaks volumes lol. I did notice when we were ordering, some sub sandwiches and other delightful food in the glass case for you to pick from . I noticed quite a few to go orders being picked up during our visit, also speaks volumes for this tiny cafe . The coffee is self serve , as an avid coffee drinker this cafe had me at hello when I saw that . So on a scale of 0-10 chefs kisses , I give it a solid x10 ! Labor Street Cafe is one of those great little neighborhood spots that you always hope to find on your travels. My wife and I were in San Antonio overnight and stopped here for breakfast in the morning. We both ordered the Tejas Scramble, a wonderful combination of freshly scrambled eggs, cheese, onion, avocado, tomatoes, etc., with an excellent salsa rojo to top it off. Crispy hashbrowns and a half a biscuit rounded it all out nicely. The coffee is solid and so is the service--counter service to order, but your food is brought to your table. It all tasted fresh and freshly made. This honestly one of those places that makes me mad my doctor told me to cut down on carbs because the pancakes looked straight up terrific. But I wasn't at all disappointed with what I got, and the folks who run the Labor Street Cafe are nice as can be. It's also in a cool little part of San Antonio, so there's plenty reason to visit. read more

My husband and I walked 20 minutes from our hotel (near the convention center) to eat at this spot that popped up #1 when I searched for "Pancakes near me" on Yelp. It is absolutely deserving of its 4.7+ rating on Yelp! The fluffy, tender, slightly crispy buttermilk pancakes are what dreams are made of! My husband ordered the Tejas Scramble: scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, onions, avocado and tomatoes, served with crispy hashed browns and toast with butter and homemade jam. He said everything was cooked to perfection! The coffee is good, too!! Everything is made in house, from scratch. The owner, Kevin, came out to check on us and we got to hear a bit about his passion for the area and what it took to renovate the property into a restaurant. The walls have beautiful art from local artists. It was a refreshing and delightful experience away from the river walk crowds. If we lived in the area, this would be our go-to place. Came here to try Labor Street Cafe for the first time, My brother in law recently passed away and this is one of the restaurants he took my kids. My daughter was happy when we arrived the table she previously sat at with her uncle was available. We had such a great experience. We were greeted by the owner, who took the time to walk us through the menu and offer recommendations, which made us feel instantly welcomed. The hospitality from both the owner and staff was outstanding. We ordered the Meat & Greet and upgraded the toast to French toast--so glad we did because it was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was very laid-back and relaxed; we never felt rushed. I also loved that they display local art on the walls, which added a nice touch to the space. After attempting to eat breakfast downtown, we came across this cafe near the alamodome. No wait, great reviews, parking right up front. Will make the lunch or breakfast items. Placing our order was easy and recommendation or the French Toast was excellent. We also had the Eggs Benny, Tejas Club and eggs with bacon and a biscuit. Amazing! Everything is FRESH and FROM SCRATCH. All 7 of us raved about our foods. The burgers tasted like they ground fresh beef after we ordered. We can't even explain the eggs Benedict or various sandwiches except that they taste even better than they look. This is a very nice café, a little bit off the beaten path. The food is homemade and a great quality. I like that the toast is buttered and grilled and very, very tasty. We discovered Labor Street Cafe through Offline. We stopped in during the men's Final Four tournament so they were quite busy. They don't have a huge dining space but the employees managed the seating to accommodate a much larger crowd than their normal one and they were great. The food is ordered at the counter then brought to your table. I ordered biscuits and gravy and it was amazing and all tasted homemade with great portions. We took baked goods home because we were too full to eat them, the sweet bread was so soft and fresh as well. I recommend this wonderful breakfast spot for anyone in the area. read more

The biscuit and gravy was delicious. The slight spice and thickness of the gravy on a warm fresh biscuit plus suburb coffee at lunch were a treat. The owner and cashier both came to our booth to check on us and made us feel welcomed. The booths were somewhat enclosed for privacy but seating was slightly low to the floor. There's modern art (oil paintings) along the wall which was unexpected. Parking is free in front of the restaurant but there are not many parking spaces. First let me say everything here was pretty great and the service was super nice. We enjoyed how clean it was. BUT... the portion sizes did not much up with the price of everything. Let's break it down 1. Yogurt parfait was ok. Is granola was a little salty which made the yogurt taste a little weird. Wasn't bad but wasn't great 2. French toast- YUM 3. Pancakes- DOUBLE YUM 4. Biscuits and gravy- great and big enough to share! Had a little kick to it. 5. Avocado toast- just wish there was more of it. 6. Omelette-great but really small to be honest. Wish it came with two. 7. Side bacon- it came late so I forgot to take a picture but it's basically one slice of bacon cut in half it was so small. They serve it the whole day. They also have baked goods. For some reason I thought this place was a coffee shop, but it isn't. They do have coffee as one of their beverage options. I ended up getting the savory shroom. They give you the option of bread. I got it on wheat. If you want to add a side, it is two dollars more. The sides are a side salad, fruit, or hash browns. My sandwich was good. It was flavorful and had a good amount of mushrooms. My friend got his sandwich that had JLP mayo. FYI, that's jalapeño mayo and it's spicy. I got a tea for my drink. They have self serve tea. They have an option of black tea or a hibiscus tea. They are unsweet. I was impressed with the hibiscus tea. Typically it is too tart for me, but this Hibiscus Tea was good. Instead of a side I ended up getting a protein ball. It was pretty good. It was a great dessert for me. The place is extremely cute. They have plenty of plugs. I did see people there with laptops. It is dog friendly. They have inside and outside seating. Parking is on site, but with limited spots. I had not problem finding a spot. You order at the counter and they bring out your food. We did think it was weird that our sandwich took so long to come out because they really didn't have to cook anything but the mushrooms for my sandwich. I've had many of the menu items here and they are all delicious. Eggs Benedict are great with perfectly poached eggs. The club sandwich is a huge stack and enough to share (or eat the other half later). Cobb salad is always tasty and the soups are different each week and all wonderful. My wife and I disagree on taste of food and wine, no one is wrong or right. Now if the food is on fire, burned, under/overcooked to our requests, that would be mentioned. I'm always here for general downtown questions and possible recommendations. We went to the café about a month ago. This time we went using our OFFLINE membership. Nothing changed! The food was so good again. This doesn't happen often, but I didn't take any pictures! That first bite must have been off the charts lol. Again, the service was fantastic. When we entered, was asked if this was our first time trying the café. The customers behind us, it was their first time. They went over the operation of the café and then the items and suggestions. HOW REFRESHING! Again, the owner/manager was asking the customers how everything was, even small talking with folks. Again, HOW REFRESHING! The ambiance was great, no issues at all with it being noisy. They have a local artist that has her items for sell in the cafe. The coffee was empty, but the server offered me to wait for the fresh pot or get a fufu coffee from the expresso mention. Nice! My husband and I liked the decor and local artwork displayed at the cafe. We received a friendly greeting immediately upon entering. We ordered the Savory Shroom sandwich and Tejas Scramble. I asked if anything came with the sandwich and was told that a side salad is included. After we paid and received our receipt, I noticed there was an additional fee for the salad. I wanted to try an espresso drink, but was told they were not able to make hot coffee that day. Overall, our food was tasty, yet slightly over priced. However, I would return to try their breakfast items, especially their biscuits, pancakes, and a hot espresso drink. If you want a 5 star customer service experience, go to this restaurant. Either it was the manager or owner that greeted us at the door and he was clearly into making sure that anyone who came in felt welcomed. The staff members were the same way. Labor Street Cafe is one of our favorite spots in Southtown. The food is always really good and the cafe is cozy and welcoming. Everything is homemade, even the jam. I love the pancakes and omelet and the biscuits and gravy are my husband's favorite. The owner is friendly and engaging. It can sometimes take a little longer to get the food, but waiting a few extra minutes is worth it for how delicious the food is.
