Took my daughter shoe shopping and received the best customer service from Makenna!!! The employee working on Chirstmas Eve was very nice to us. My fiancée was looking for Ugg slippers and it was hard to find in her size. The employee checked on her computer to see if they had any at the store or nearby store. They didn't have any so my fiancée just tried different sizes to see which one was the closest and comfortable for her. The store is not that big so they might not have a lot of selections for you. My elderly father was looking for a pair of sneakers yesterday (3/9/25). By the time we got to the Thousand Oaks Mall, we were on our second day of our search. Liz was amazing, so patient and helpful, getting down on the floor to help Dad with his lacing and fit, and finding shoes for him to try. We told her we wanted to try two more stores in the mall, so she said she was putting the pair that fit Dad aside in case we came back. After trying two more stores (Champs next door didn't have Dad's size at all and there were no sales people to be found at Dick's including at the cash register where we were trying to pay for a bottle of water on our way out), we returned to Journeys. Sure enough the shoes that had fit Dad had been put aside as Liz promised. We purchased Dad's shoes 100% because of Liz's customer service. What a gem! I bought a pair of white UGG slides online... wore them around my new house where I just had movers come and they were so uncomfortable I got blisters from the 30 min I wore them. I went to return them on my lunch break from work and the girl working the register who claimed to be a manager yet had to call her manager said that she couldn't take them back because the bottoms had dirt on them... I went around and grabbed other white shoes they had on display in the store to show her that is just what happens to white shoes... she didn't get/ was immature/ just dumb because she said "are you going to put those back?" And I said in my most Karen like voice "isn't that what you get paid to do?" I realize I wasn't nice but neither was this immature girl who was talking on her cell phone when I came in. I told her I actually used to work at this mall when I was in high school so I've worked retail and I couldn't tell you how many times I've had to refold jeans at Hollister 10 years ago.. I guess some people just never grow up. The real manager here needs to train their staff better/ the customer is always right? Did they stop teaching that? This is why I don't shop at the mall anymore... and will never shop at Journeys ever again!! Note that the bottom of my receipt says you have 365 days to return, and I only tried the shoes on in my house, that I had just moved into, that had movers the day before, you do the math lol the bottoms of all our feet were black not just shoes. TLDR; had to threaten Journeys with small claims court cause they cancelled my order of $150+ out of the blue, & did not refund me for 3 months (by check?? Wtf refund my card this isn't 1936) after numerous phone calls and apologies. I placed an order in store for specific Doc Martens size (a women's specific size, not unisex women's) since they didn't have my size in stock. He placed the order after calling 10+ stores. I spent $150+, all well and good. A week later, my order was cancelled since they in fact did not ever have it in stock. Turns out you only have 2 weeks or something ridiculous, where they can refund to your card. After that, they mail you a CHECK(???). Ok fine. I'll deal with a check since I didn't realize they don't refund your freaking card instantly after cancelling your order on you. I NEVER received the check. Called Journeys corporate (already wasting so much of my time at this point). Very apologetic 'yes sir we'll Next day air this check'. Oh my god I had 5+ phone calls over the course of THREE MONTHS. EVERY person told me the same thing "oh I'm sorry to hear that let me speak with the coordinator" and put me on hold. 30 minute phone calls, sometimes more. The last convo I had, 3 MONTHS after they took my money and didn't refund me, I threatened to take them to small claims court. Apparently that worked, cause I got the check about a week after that. read more

Used to be kind of a fun store to go into. Now it is like walking into a car dealership. The don't give you one minute to look around before it seems like they are under pressure to get you to buy shoes. Just their approach is very intense and pressuring. Then they go on about socks and why you should buy their socks. They need to just act chill a bit and return it to a cool place to buy shoes instead of a hard sell machine. Know your customer. They also are out of stock on shoes that are popular at the moment. They need to keep a better eye on stock. I don't want to order off the web site! read more

Bad customer service. The store is employed with a bunch of young kids who are too stoned to know what they're doing and just hang around laughing at the register. I asked for one shoe in 2 sizes. The bleary eyed kid who "helped" me came back with 4 different boxes, all two sizes too big. I repeated what sizes I wanted and he came back with the right sizes..but the wrong shoes. He finally came back with the right shoe..but in only one size instead of the two I asked for. The irony was that the shoe fit fine. I came in looking for some Docs the other day with my mom and ohhh did they lay out the red carpet for us. They pulled out several styles/colors, gave some great tips to take care of them, and were overall very enjoyable to work with. This isn't the only time I've had a good experience with this store. Even though i made them take out several pairs of shoes my sales associate Beth stayed extremely positive and didn't get annoyed with my awfulness. My oldest daughters birthday is Saturday December 24th, she will be 16. She has now become THE most difficult person to shop for in regards to pretty much anything so after dinner D and I went to pick out her birthday gifts. A few things were on the agenda for the evening, a couple of shirts, maybe a few pieces of jewelry and shoes. D specifically asked for Vans. I've worked retail before, it isn't necessary fun and at times it can be a downright drag, especially around the holidays, I get it. However, walking into a store all the way to the back, passing by at least 5 employees, even picking out the shoe we intended to purchase without even a greeting, I opted to take my business elsewhere. Next stop, Journeys store #874. Approaching the store we saw what we thought to be a line out the door, but turned out the store was packed with customers. First thought was to most likely expect a similar experience, but I figured we were there, let's go in and check it out. We walk in, and are immediately greeted by Anthony, my mood instantly changed, so funny how that works. I shared our previous encounter within another retail store, and just thanked him for it. We made our way over to the Vans section and found the shoes D wanted, no problem. Before turning to ask for help, we were greeted by Lance. He spoke with D about all of what she was looking for, her size and what not and brought them out, even a pair that she hadn't asked for in her size "just in case" she might be interested. Anthony checked on us to ensure we were being taken care of and as I sat waiting, I just watched how each one of the employees continuously circulated the store ensuring all of the customers were being taken care of and got what they needed. By the time we were ready to purchase D's shoes, all other customers had been helped and gone about their business. And the one pair of shoes Lance brought out "just in case", out of the 5 other pairs he brought out for D to try on, were the ones she fell in love in with and brought home {even though I've asked her AND her sisters many a times before if they'd consider that pair only to be told no...lol} Bottom line here, I greatly appreciated the impeccable customer service witnessed last night at Journeys store #874 in Thousand Oaks. I ordered some Birkenstock online and decided they were not for me. My sister was going to the Oaks mall and I decided to save myself a trip and asked her to return it for me. I gave her the package and receipts that came with it along with my credit card. When she got there she asked me to send her my email confirmation so I did. Yet the girl was still giving her issues saying that isn't what she needed and she needed a pdf receipt that they send when you make a purchase. I said I ordered online and did not get a pdf receipt she said I still should of gotten it. I said I didn't. That's all I have. I asked what's the problem over the phone the receipt shows the item I purchased along with how much I paid. She kept asking for the "pdf" receipt and that I could get a store credit not back to original form of payment without it. I refuse to get a credit and told my sister to forget it. My sister refuse to leave and apparently she ended up calling the manager and she was told she could use the receipt that came with the package. She did apologize but it doesn't fix stupid. If she didn't know she should have asked in the first place. I was with a client and was interrupted many times to look for this "pdf" receipt that didn't exist with online orders. I shop at journeys for my kids shoes but never again. read more

I come here often to buy shoes for my kids, it's always a very quick, in and out stop. I think the company must train the associates to be very sale oriented, because sometimes they just come off a little pushy and obnoxious (the old manager used to literally shout at the customers when they walked in an effort "pump" them up) I normally go to Nordstrom for my own converse, but last week I had to stop by for my kids and decided to just look for myself (this mommy needed some retail therapy). I was greeted right when I walked in by a young girl, her name tag said "Mac Daddy" but I think I heard a coworker call her McKenna (I feel bad, I forgot to ask). I can honestly say that never in my life have I experienced customer service like I did with her (and I shop A LOT), I was completely blown away. So sweet, so helpful, just really good at her job. She took the time to ask me all the important questions to find out what I was looking for before bringing anything to me rather then just bringing random shoes out and pushing them on me. I didn't even feel like I was being "sold" to, she was chatting with me about my kids, my job, my husband, and even his job, just things that I would mention nonchalantly (she was really paying attention to what I was saying) I was so impressed, especially because I was not the only person she was helping and talking to. She was knowledgeable about the products and what was in the store and even online, which is rare because you just don't find a lot of retail employees who care bout their jobs like that. I ended up getting 3 pairs of shoes for myself as well as my daughters shoes and she even let me know about their socks that are so great deal, I think it's 5 for $10, super cheap, great quality. I didn't tell her at the time but I am still taken aback and totally amazed with how awesome this girl was! read more

I had a bizarre experience at this location. The manager is the most pushy person I've ever met. There's a difference between knowing what the customer wants and just trying to make a sale. I was looking for comfort, knew exactly what I wanted. Instead of giving me that he brought out a ton of shoes that aren't even known for comfort. At the end of the transaction when I finally got what I wanted he decided to try and ring me up for some socks. He quickly said "ok we are going to get you some socks it's $5 that's totally ok" or however much they cost. I can imagine a lot of customers being caught off guard by the quickness of trying to sneak the socks in. I told him no.. Also during my transaction some pretty teenagers came in and he immediately tried to pawn time at the register with me to go talk to them off on his other coworker. When the other employee basically said no, he was very short with me and rushed the rest of the transaction because he was mad he couldn't go talk to some girls. In my opinion this store is run by a bunch of children. I felt so weird about the whole thing that I decided to return my shoes at a different store. Because everything was just weird and unprofessional. Get a new manager. read more
